Tried the new Sunday brunch as we really enjoyed this "go to" spot years ago. My wife's smoke salmon crepe was fine. I started with eggs Benedict since it was early before Cafe 440 was Open. My mistake there. Sent the order back as the eggs were "hard boiled" in texture and the sauce was lacking in flavor and liquidity. It's not that hard to make a good Hollandaise Sauce just using the two main ingredients and a micro wave for hot butter. I next tried the Berry Crepes and I've not tasted them before with the crepes fresh out of the refrigerator.. maybe something new but , had they been warm as expected, they would have been overcome in flavor with way too much cream cheese and marscarpone. I hope they keep trying as a decent crowd and music out on the sidewalk makes for a very nice weekend element in downtown Eugene as it struggles to recover and succeed. read more

1st let me start by saying that the wait staff and bartender were great. The place looks nice. The dipping oil was so salty that we couldn't touch it. When asked for butter we were given those foil wrapped frozen chunks. The potato soup was odd tasting, because they used nutmeg (nutmeg...really nutmeg). Stuffed mushrooms were bland. We got lasagna and sausage with peppers, both were lacking and very pedestrian. The highest rating would have to go to dessert. A chocolate mousse paired up with a Tawny Port (their suggestion & a good one too). We are planing to give it another try, in case we hit them on a bad night. read more

This is just fine. The beer was fine. The service was fine, the pizza was fine. But that's it. It's fine. There's nothing wrong with it. It's not elevated food, is not basic food. It's not exceptionally well made nor is it exceptionally tasty or flavorful. It s also not BAD. There's nothing wrong with it. There's just nothing special or memorable about it except the ambiance. It's an American/Italian restaurant that's been a around forever. Nothing has changed since like the seventies. Maybe it was good then. It's fine now. It's okay. Some things are not great. The pesto is bland and though they have espresso, and are an "Italian" establishment, the server did not know what a macchiato was, and didn't seem to know it's a basic espresso drink you can order at almost any coffee house in both Italy and the U.S. explaining to me after I ordered one, "we can do cappuccino, lattes and espresso," (then they should also be able to do a macchiato, if they knew what it was, anyway.) But the server was pleasant and very nice. He took good care of us. I just think this place could use an update. A manager or chef who wants to make something about the food memorable again, better than just fine, and make it a place I might actually like to go back to for anything besides the decor, would do it good. read more

We have always loved this restaurant for excellent food and ambiance but this time we were disappointed that we didn't get a table even after making a reservation. They told us it would be an hour and half wait so we had a drink at the bar and still no seating available so we left because we had tickets to a play nearby. We recommend getting a reservation if you plan on going on a busy night. They had several large parties and it was during the holidays. read more

I struggled to decide to give this a two or three star review. My husband and I had a reservation at 6:45 for my 40th birthday which we were on time for. When we came in we said we had a reservation at 6:45 and were told by an older gentleman working the host table that they were running late and could we take a seat at the bar to wait for a table. We did so and after about 20-25 minutes, I decided to check in again about our table. There was a different host there the second time and she said she didn't know we'd arrived and they considered us a no show. She apologized and said it would be another 20-30 minutes. I asked if we could order our food then so it could be ready when we were seated and she said no, and not only that, if we had any tab we would have to close that at the bar, to which I'd told her we'd already paid with cash for a drink a piece. About 10 minutes later, she must have pulled some strings and got us seated, which I appreciate. We ordered food at our table and I also ordered a Moscow Mule. Apparently they don't have fixings for that drink because it was in a glass instead of copper with no ginger beer. It was basically a lightly lemon flavored cocktail, and I'm guessing the person that made it just wasn't sure what that drink entails. At this point, everyone is being nice and kind and doing their best, so I did not complain. Our food took another hour to be served so you would think the food would be hot. My lasagna was piping hot but so full of salt, I couldn't eat more than a quarter of it. My husband had the lamb and it was very cold. He ate some of it but the flavors were decent. We reported the temperature issue. They offered to reheat the food which we declined since we'd been there so long at that point and goodness knows how long that would have taken. The server was apologetic and offered a free dessert, which we again declined since it was nine by then, so we'd been there for almost 2 1/2 hours at this point. The server took the cost of my husband's meal off the check which was a very nice surprise. Overall, the food was not great and the drinks were not great. Otherwise, the server was nice and accommodating and the ambiance was nice too. I don't think I would go here again by my choice. They appear to lean heavily on the ambiance and not enough on the quality of the food and drink as well as overall organization of the front of house. read more

The ambiance is killer here. A definite date spot or place to tell someone you love em. I've been in town two years but kept off from going here for very superficial reasons. I'm not typically into italian food, but on this particular day, Anthony Bourdain committed suicide. I wanted to go out and eat somewhere I hadn't been before. It was a great choice. Upon entry, there was a band doing the standard wobbidy woo skiddle dee doo and the host acknowledge me and my friend. One thing I love about Eugene is I can go out to a fancy restaurant wearing my jean shorts and hoodie and not get treated bad. The wait staff were friendly and informative (I heard a few around talking to table that we're VERY awkward sounding, not sure about what they were reciting. But that's me being outside judge. Anyway, our server was great. He was a little too presumptuous with some hinting that maybe me and my same sexed friend were just having dinner together and not trying to get in each other's pants or on a romantic date. It just made it a little awkward for me, because whatever mandate, I ain't afraid. But it's not really cool to presume either way, ya know? Shouldn't have to say "I'm actually blah blah blah orientation". small gripe! that may be just me being shy in general and hate being put on the spot like that when out with a friend. But for real, the food I had was amazing. It was a "special" but it seems pretty standard... but it was great in it's simplicity. Filet mignon, 6oz I believe, perfectly cooked rare through and through with a fantastic crust. The sauce was a nice addition and didn't take away or overpower the simplicity of this bloody hunk of love. Must have been sous vide bit I could be wrong. It was perfectly cooked. On a bed of mashed potatoes and another side I cannot recall! I loved every bite and licked the plate. It's a fancy place. It's a beautiful interior. It's kinda this zone of a particular vibe that really I haven't personally seen anywhere else in Eugene. Can't wait to come back and try again. read more

I loved this place when I was a student many years ago and was thrilled to see it was still here. It started out as a good experience- quick greet at the table and drink / app order which both came out promptly. But then I didn't see my waiter again until he delivered my main dish - which took forever to come out - a make yourself calzone- and not once did he stop by and acknowledge how long it was taking and he constantly had to pass by my table but never apologized or said he would check or give me a feeble line and also I know, I was a server for 10 years of my life but it shouldn't take 40+mins to get a calzone and if it is taking that long in the kitchen then let your guess know. Once I got it- it was lukewarm to say the best, dough raw in sections and stone cold in the middle. I will say the manager did stop by before I got my main dish and asked if all was alright which at the time it was and the server apologized when I told him that it was cold and they reheated- and it went from lukewarm to warm, but didn't offer a comp or dessert, but charged me full price. Wow. When the kitchen messed up at my restaurant we would either offer a dessert or comp a drink or when the wait was longer than normal and the dish cold.I just hate it when you dine alone and you are treated as not a priority or important. I will say they might have been busy with big groups that I was unaware of and that could've taken priority. I would try again but not before a big Game night and maybe avoid the calzone- which is so sad because this is the place I first fell in love with them. read more

We had a hard time finding a good place for our 17th Anniversary. We were so happy with our drinks and food. Our cocktails were amazing! I ordered their filet special and it was hands down the best steak I've had in Eugene. My husband ordered the fettuccini Davide and it was also amazing. Well definitely be back. This is a decent spot, they have a wood fired oven which you just can't fake so the pizza and lasagna are pretty good. The kids were definitely happy with it but it wasn't exactly fine dining. I ALMOST gave these guys 3 stars because of the hilariously bad house salad (they just take mixed greens from the clamshell and some croutons with dressing) but it's got good service and location and having a wood fired pizza oven is nice. Also I didn't order anything that took skill to make so I'm not going to dock them but the salad makes me suspect their steaks and other meat wouldn't be spectacular. TLDR: wood fired oven is killer app, house salad HILARIOUSLY lazy, service/ambiance/location were great, decent drink list and can't evaluate the more complicated entrees because of what I ordered. Celebrated my husband's birthday here, and the food was exceptional! We ordered daily specials of halibut and steak, plus a pasta dish, a calzone, and an individual pizza. It was a busy Friday night and it took a while to get out food, but our waiter was attentive and kept our drinks filled & bread on the table (outstanding!!). The vegetables were seasoned perfectly and even the rice was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The ambiance is on the noisy side; we sat upstairs and the live music and chatter from downstairs really carries, so take that into consideration if you prefer a quieter spot or ask for the back room downstairs where it might be a little quieter. read more

This place was amazing!! We are from out of town and I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the sauce was absolutely phenomenal. The mozzarella sticks were thick and had lots of cheese, and the crab stuffed mushrooms have become my favorite food. We also ordered the halibut with risotto and the risotto was perfect. The halibut fell apart in my mouth so beautifully, I know I'm going to miss this place like crazy already. The price is absolutely 100% worth it. Our waiter was lovely and attentive. He even took a photo of us to send back home to my boyfriend's mom. We will definitely be coming back here when we visit town again. We are in love!!! 10/10 definitely recommend. read more

Came here for our anniversary ordered the lobster ravioli and it was a bit undercooked. After taking some leftovers home and warming it up in the microwave they were tender and yummy! I've been coming here for many years now. Both dine in & take out. Always brought many people from out of state here as it is one of the few Italian restaurants in Eugene. Now, I can't tell enough people to STAY AWAY from Ambrosia. The owner has always been so kind to me so it truly took many many negative experiences to finally wipe away the previous 5 star review I once gave Ambrosia. 4 times in a row our order has been given to us or delivered to us with a main dish completely wrong. Knowing myself and that I completely can't stand spaghetti bolognese in general, There's no way I would slip that out of my mouth while ordering, as opposed to beef stroganoff (what I have told them many times I want and even have a receipt for, from DoorDash, saying 'beef stroganoff') My fiancé tried to call the last time this exact thing happened and the person who answered the phone acted like they would not take responsibility for the RE-OCCURRING mistake. He drove a total of ONE HOUR to correct their mistake and so that I had a dinner to eat that night, all to get an attitude about it from the staff. He complained hoping they would not make this mistake again. He swore them off his restaurant rotation and after today, I officially have as well. I've liked Ambrosia for many years, but the service is consistently sub par to terrible. As I write this I've been sitting here for 2 hours and the only food our table has received is one salad. This is on a slow Monday night, with a small party, not some large party on a Saturday night. I will say the food is still generally very good, if it ever shows up. But unless you have all night and don't mind poor service, I'd probably choose another restaurant. Luckily Eugene does have a couple other great Italian restaurants. read more

Truly I rarely give bad reviews but this was terrible. The server was a VERY nice person, as was the bartender, so it was nothing about the service but even she seemed to be embarrassed. The food quality was terrible. The truffle pizza had a terrible sour flavor...something was wrong. The bolognaise pasta was 99% pasta and a crazy HUGE serving. A mound of pasta with a bit of flavorless sauce on top. SO disappointing. We didn't eat anything and told her but was charged full price. I've was a server in college, I get it but yikes. Visiting our daughter and her fellow, who recommended this eatery as we all craved Italiano fare. Our waitress Clair was quick and efficient, delightful and bubbly. Ruling out patio dining on the street, we were seated upstairs with a view of the bar below. Vodka martini was on the watery side. Caesar salad was splittable and exquisite, the soft a bit on the salty side . Pizza was crisp and saucy, high quality toppings and hot gobs of mozzarella. Presentation was appetizing. This is a nice Italian place with a bar. The inside is quaint, with a variety of antique looking tables and decor. The building is old which adds to the charm. The location is on a cute area of downtown away from riff-raff. The lighting was romantic for our date night. The food was great as well as dessert. Good wine selection. Service was also great. The menu is pretty ok. The food is good. The atmosphere is really nice and warm. Feels like the 1940s inside. Only thing is they always make you wait while tables literally sit empty. Should keep the flow of service always going. Even if you got two people and only have a four top. You seat them. Should never have a line or people waiting unless it's absolutely necessary. Kind of disappointed with the hosts. Bartenders and servers are really great though. I've attached a picture of at least three vacant two tops but the host had said it's a 30 minute wait time. They ended up sitting us at the table that's in the photo. My partner has owned 4 of the most popular restaurants in town and he said tables should never be empty. If you can't handle a full house you need to hire more staff. read more

We had the family back in town and thought this would be a great experience. Lots of Italian restaurants in town and this will be one we don't come back to, ever. It was disappointing that this was our last family dinner in town together. They ran out of bruschetta after 1 of 2 orders was delivered. Wine had started to turn to vinegar and needed to send back a glass. Main entree was cold yet you could hear chef yelling it was ready. They claimed they were backed-up. However, taking reservations, there's no surprise how many people are coming to your restaurant. The worst part is that having more than 6 in our party, we were stuck with paying the automatic gratuity of 18%. Even talking to three of the staff after dinner, they didn't seem to care. Wow, I just love this place. I used to come here when they opened, back in the 80s, and the one thing I remember the most was the chocolate mousse dessert, and of course it's still here! Also, the pizzas are quite nostalgic, because even though they not longer have it on the menu, they still make my favorite: feta, prosciutto, sun dried tomato, artichoke heart, and parmesean. I've also had other food here, such as the ravioli, and it is extremely flavorful. The building is a wonderful old thing, and I really enjoy the dim lighting, making quite a nice mood with a table by the window. The drinks menu is also pretty nice, for sure, and their cocktails (especially the Nuovo Ambrosia) is really tasty. read more

The Caesar salad with chicken was a disappointment. Let's see, they forgot to put on the parmesan cheese, we had to ask for croutons, the chicken was dry so we didn't mind that it was a very small portion, we had to again ask for freshly ground pepper, and the dressing was not flavorful without a hint of garlic. I would not order the salad again. The service was average. We had a long wait for our cocktails, but no biggy as when you're with good company, time flies. Hostess was a pain so "I lost my appetite.". I came in a half hour before 5 after some classes so I was STARVING. Unfortunately had a schedule to keep so I thought I would go in and get something classy to go or eat at the bar real fast. There were only a few people around (3?) And just me and another lady at the service desk. I was handed menus when I asked and then when I was about to order told that the happy hour items are not to go. No problem, I am unorthodox but I respect that. So I am about to sit at the bar then when the bar man isn't there and the lady who has nothing else to do can't even take my order... Service is service? You do what you can?? That girl was all kinds of lost. Pity because I really wanted to try the calamari and ravioli. Last time I came my noodle dish was a bit oily.
