Perfect for our anniversary dinner. Great food and wine selection and attentive and friendly service. A little in the expensive side for every day, but we'll worth it for a treat or special occasion. read more

Wonderful high-end Italian restaurant I and my family adore so much in Eugene. They make food with the freshest ingredient and there's nothing fake and cheap about the food. You can feel the essence of Italian cooking. I visited the other pasta places that are rated higher than ambroisia and it just confirms my belief in coming back to this restaurant. This is the one of the best restaurant in Eugene. For the dish I tried both in Ambrosia and the Alder's in Portland, I can say Ambrosia does it better read more

After placing a reservation I was still waiting to be seated for almost 30 minutes. Food was spendy which is to be expected for this style of restaurant but the food was by far sub par. Me and my date had by far different meals. Her steak was hot and yummy yet her potatoes were very cold. My pasta was flavorless and boiling hot. Took over an hour to receive our food. There were only 3 servers that we could see working. The workers were doing the best they could but visibly overwhelmed. Not for for a lack of workers effort but would not recommend this place. read more

I should have known... Joining friends for dinner around 8 on a Sunday, I found the place practically empty. The service was adequate but certainly not speedy. The food was a mixed bag. The piadina (a sort of pizza) appetizer was fine if unremarkable, while the antipasti (cold cuts, cheese, nuts, peppers) was, I thought, rather ungenerous in its portions. My special, which I should have asked the price of ($37!!!) was terribly salty and was some fish that I very much doubt would test out as real halibut. Seemed very cod-like. The risotto it was resting on was fine, but nothing to write home about. All in all, a disappointing experience, especially the bill!! read more

Yew-Jean, I Love You But you're bringing me down Yew-Jean, I Love You But you're freaking me out Like a death of the heart Jesus, where do I start? ... But you're still the one pool Where I'd happily drown --LCD Soundsystem, 'New York, I Love you' (adapted for my hometown) Ambrosia is Eugene at its finest. Prime, downtown real estate. Beautiful building, dripping with history. Case in point, I was sitting on the shores of Swan Lake (NW Montana) one summer and ended up in a conversation with an 85+ year-old gentleman who used to work downtown, at the Hardware store in the Quackenbush building. At that time, both he and I had been away from Eugene for awhile...and the sparkles in our eyes as we talked about E. Broadway were real, and deeply felt. But, Ambrosia. The magic ends there for me. Please, PLEASE start sourcing better product, bring back Spaghetti Athena, and cater to a downtown lunch crowd ($10 and under specials, anyone? Anyone?). If you were in any other city/town, people would have stopped talking about you long ago. I'm sorry, I know it hurts. But I say it because I love. My last meal here a couple of weeks ago was a DEFINITE one-star affair. But, I'm leaving my rating at two-stars because I found hope on this last visit...a glimmer, a promise of some change. You see, the restaurant has started a "1st Wednesday wine tasting" (next one set for 6/1/11: http://www.ambrosiarestaurant.com/events). Patrons will be able to taste 10 wines, and will be fed light appetizers from 5:30 - 7pm for a mere $15 per person. Now this seems like a good direction, Ambrosia. Their wine lists here are extensive, and should be showcased. So, c'mon, friend. Keep moving in the right direction. You'll always keep your true loyal followers...but the rest of us might find reason to officially "move on," without some re-invention here. read more

If you are looking for good food, i would not recommend this place. But if you are looking for a nice environment, it should be your choice. I ordered a calzone and my partner had their pasta, Both very very ordinery. Their bread was too salty. Overall it was a 3star. read more

IF you want good food, and GREAT service and you find yourself in front of this place, walk across the street to cafe Zenon, they know how to make a night out enjoyable for customers, and have quality food and professional servers. Food is merely ok at Ambrosia. The pizzas were the best dishes but not impressive. The service was terrible though. I tried this place on a groupon deal, which I am thankful for, b/c I would have been super angry had I paid so much for a dinner and gotten the horrible service that I got. IF you have KIDS-- DON'T GO THERE!, not a kid friendly vibe at all. It is not what I would call a formal place in any way whatsoever, it is very casual, but I was heart broken to see my 3 year old who is very social try to engage the indifferent server. The service clearly is lacking in the restaurant from the top down, Our server (who was terrible) was the manager. So Clearly there is no room for hope. If you want good italian in Eugene, I recommend the Ox & Fin, if you dont mind spending a little extra, and Beppe and Gianni's Trattoria off 19th is awesome. read more

Hey, I'm a firm believer in you can't go wrong with Italian food! The atmosphere is very calm and romantic (at least upstairs where we were seated) and the staff is friendly. My husband ordered the veggie lasagna and I had the mushroom risotto. His lasagna was absolutely delicious. One of the best veggie lasagnas I've tasted. Lots of flavor and the exact right amount of cheese to sauce. Definitely order that if you're into that dish! My risotto, was okay. It was good and edible bur a little bland. I had to add some salt. The bread ahead of time wasn't to die for either. Overall it's a good restaurant. Like I said before, you can't go wrong with Italian! However some suggestions to make it a little more desirable: 1) staff needs to be a bit more attentive. We waited a long time for our check at the end even though we asked for it. (This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Let me pay you!) 2) don't sit everyone in the restaurant in the same small space. Some of us don't want to listen to the loud mouth lush while trying to have a quiet conversation. 3) get some freaking focaccia to start! Overall, try it out. It's good eats, but in the area there are some better options. read more

What a cool name: Ambrosia. Cute looking place. Crowded as heck inside & TINY tables. Servers act clueless & act like they can size me up as a bad tipper by my shoes, or something. I may not be a snazzy dresser but I do tip. I just want service if I'm going to spend TOP dollar!!!! I'm so sorry this is a one star review. I don't like to hate on anyone. I wanted to love this seemingly adorable Restaurant. I wanted a new favorite in my new town (2004 experiences). And I certainly wanted to love every dollar spent but the staff left me so disappointed. Terrible service & suprisingly mediocre food for a place called Ambrosia! Good call on the flatware in another review!!! Super LOL. BTW: I was so mad at the feeling I had that the servers (I tried this place 2x cuz I so wanted to love it) acted like I wasn't worth their time, I tipped 10%. I almost always tip 20% (more if the meal is cheap with sit down service) for fair service. I just couldn't leave without tipping, cuz it would make them that much more smug. Even if I won the lottery, I would not go back to this place. read more

Great food and magnificent service. Best upscale restaurant left in downtown Not pub food. Save room for dessert.

One word to describe this place: OVERRATED! My experience here was pleasant, but nothing worth going out of your way to dine. We were first told that a table for two would be a 15-min wait, but it ended being a lil over 45 min. They blamed it on the lack of servers, but that doesn't excuse the fact that you suck at estimating time. When we finally got seated, our server was awkward and there were a lot of little things that bothered me, but not worth mentioning. The food (the bread, the pastas, the drinks) was just OK, it definitely didn't impress me one bit. Next time I want to eat around the area, I'm seriously going to go across the street. I won't be choosing to ear here in the future. read more

Excellent food, an attentive professional staff, and a long time owner still actively involved (who also happens to be very knowledgeable about wine). Add in an attractive space and you have the perfect formula for one of the few remaining go to fine restaurants in Eugene read more

I first have to say- the wait staff are fabulous! Here's the bad news:the food is simply INEDIBLE. Awful. Disgusting. Terrible. Flavorless Sauces. Undercooked pork. Raw vegtables that taste like fish. I can't believe they charge for their food- especially those prices! It;'s too bad since the wait staff really are great and I love the room below. read more

Never coming back. No one acknowledged us at first which we were fine with. But then our waiter was extremely rude the entire time. Barely spoke to us, did not tell us any specials. Barely gave us time to order, rushed through everything. Basically threw our food on the table when he brought it over. And then the food was bland/plain/a waste of money. Tasted like they made it as fast as possible. Tasted like my 5th grade lunch. read more

I've been going to Ambrosia for many years, and the ONLY reason they don't get a five star rating from me is the lack of true wheelchair access in the restroom. One can get a small manual wheelchair into the stall, but it won't close behind the chair. Add to that, this stall is RIGHT in front of the bathroom's main door, so even if you don't have a problem peeing in front of strange women, you just might when the closest tables can see you sitting on the toilet. Bad form. Having said that, I have dined here as a couple, a family, and a large group. The food is excellent, the staff are very knowledgeable about the menu (and good wine pairings), and the ambiance is incredibly rustic and homey. I have eaten here for lunch and dinner, and the food is always very consistent. read more

I've been here quite a few times for lunch and dinner and it is usually pretty good; there have been times that I've gotten some lackluster service but the food is generally excellent. I tend to stick with the specials since they are usually the best options, although they have some stellar items on their everyday menu: the Insalata Pistachio is very tasty and their Crab Stuffed Mushroom appetizer is prepared very well - flavorful and tender; the cheese plate is usually a good bet as are the roasted olives. As far as entrees on their everyday menu I would go for the Lobster Ravioli or the Wild Mushroom Agnolotti although the Pan-Seared Scallops have been good as well. I will say that over the years I have had some mixed experiences here, particularly in more recent times which is why they get 3 stars. Some of my worse experiences may have been due to new staff - e.g. french onion soup coming sans bread and cheese, which makes it really just onion soup - but those things need to be caught by their trainers or the kitchen staff. They are always very gracious when errors or complaints are brought to their attention, so that is a big plus. read more

Having had consistently excellent food and service at Ambrosia's since 1997, I can't believe I always forget it's there: It is an odd location, squeezed between the Greyhound station and seedy bars, and the business area that shuts down at 5PM ... but it's also the one great choice in this area, in the early dinner hours. The fifth star is because the atmosphere and service make it such a welcoming place, regardless of the time of day, the budget, or what you're wearing when you walk in. I've been here in heels as part of a company holiday party, and in dusty sweaty jeans & ballcap after a nasty day of travel, and never feel out of place or am made to feel out of place by differences in service. Here, the Eugene "we'll take you as you are" thing really shines. I've not only never had a bad meal at Ambrosia's, but have never had a meal that didn't make me go "WOW" ... whether it's spending under $10 per person on calzones, salads, or happy hour lasagna ... or spending above $30 per person for a seafood specialty with wine and dessert. The ambience is unique and delightful, with mixed-up antique tables and chairs, warm lighting, and classy jazz music. Loud, raucous parties can be had in their rooms for big groups, without the intimately chatting couple in the front even knowing a party room exists. The wait staff understands service, and a friend and I were shocked to have a server remember what we drank on our second visit, 2 months after our first visit. Small things like offering freshly ground parmesean, yet grating it into a little cup (so you can dose your own, and not have somebody leaning over people awkwardly), or asking "do you want me to take your plate" instead of "are you finished" do not go unnoticed. read more

Not only is the food amazing, but you feel like you're in a cute, old cabin. It's nice inside and feels homey. The food was unbelievable. We ordered a Four Seasons Pizza, giving you a little taste of everything. We also orders the Davide pasta, which was incredible. The creamy white sauce mixed with sun dried tomato is probably one of my favorite duos. The servers were very nice and friendly, not overly persistent, but always there at the right time. Definitely a place I would go back to and try more of the menu. read more

Food took way too long. Pear salad ok, tasty. Froze my a__ off waiting for a calzone. It has been an hour and a half and we have not had it served to us. Finally! We got our calzone, almost two hours. Waiter was embarrassed and said it was on him. Good thing. We ordered the chicken pesto calzone and we got a cheese and some mushrooms No chicken and the crust was not cooked. The best thing in the restaurant was our waiter Eric. Somebody please steal him.. read more

Great service ,nice ambiance delicious entrees ,the spaghetti bolognese was awesome my compliments to Evan the chef!

I ate supper here the other evening - lobster ravioli, Caesar salad, and a toffee carmel pudding cake for dessert. Tonight I'm having the Four Seasons pizza and Caesar salad as take out. The pizza consisted of two slices each of artichoke hearts, mushrooms, pepperoni, and prosciutto. This was delicious with ample ingredients on each slice, which was small in size. Tonight's Caesar salad had large pieces of romaine lettuce, which were awkward to eat because I didn't have a knife with which to cut them into smaller pieces. I'll write now of the previous supper, which I ate at the restaurant, sitting outside. The lobster ravioli was bland, and I thought the pasta encasing the lobster was thicker than it needed to be. There could have been more lobster, too. All in all, I wouldn't order it again. The Caesar salad was delicious - bite-sized pieces of crisp lettuce tossed with dressing and cheese and croutons. The dessert was an interesting choice to offer as it's English in origin amid Italian cuisine. The toffee imparted an unusual flavor. read more

Great restaurant. The service was excellent for our large party. The food was outstanding (although I would have liked to see a few more choices). Be warned that it is crowded and on the noisy side. Overall, a great place for dinner out in Eugene. read more

I must admit, prior to this year I thought that Ambrosia had all but disappeared off the map. To me Ambrosia seemed antiquated, dusty, but I decided to give it another go one day with a friend of mine. You must give it to whoever decorated the place because the whole dramatic velvet drapery, and fringed lampshades really do lend to the mysterious ways this restaurant moves. The employees are the ones who really changed my view of this place. Their familiarity and genuine connections with their patrons are a rarity in any restaurant business, much less one that's seems to be struggling with relevancy. My favorite place in most establishments, is the bar. You really get to know the restaurant by the bar, I feel. You hear, feel, and see all the goings on of the restaurant from that one high seat at the bar. I always sit at the bar at Ambrosia, I chat with the bartenders, servers while eating a pound of clams, shallots, garlic and herbs in a white wine butter sauce, sipping on a cloud nine as I take in the going on's of the night. Here's my advice: come in with an open mind, listen and taste with all five senses and enjoy yourself at Ambrosia. read more

I'm giving it 3 stars for 3 reasons. 1. We had to wait to be seated while no one was waiting ahead of us. 2. We had to wait for our server and it took awhile to get our food 3. Drinks were soooo late The food pricey but was good but almost not worth it... Will I go here again? I honestly don't know... I'm torn... Still waiting on our check..... so maybe not.... I would understand if it was packed but I don't see anyone else in our section, hmmm (Here are some of the things we had, some in our party started eating before I could take a picture) read more

I give Ambrosia 4 stars because I've only been once and want an excuse to go a second time and confirm its holiness. The atmosphere is great, they have about a million different types of wine, and the food is both delectable and reasonably priced. The menu is Italian. You know, pasta, calzones, pizza, and fair share of seafood. I ordered Halibut that was seared and served over pasta with sauteed vegetables on the side. Makes me hungry even thinking about it again. If you live in Eugene and haven't been here yet, go already! If you are just passing through Eugene and want a nice place to pick up pasta, or just grab a glass of wine, I can't suggest a more centrally located and aesthetically pleasing venue. read more

I love the ambiance of this restaurant. Located in downtown Eugene- you find yourself entering a very classy and hip establishment. Two levels of seating- my favorite being upstairs or up at the front of the restaurant- where you overlook Broadway St. Italian cuisine is what you'll find on Ambrosia's menu. Ambrosia offers a very social atmosphere and is definitely a great place to gather and celebrate with friends over dinner and drinks. Dinner plates range between $13-30. Drinks are standard. They also offer a lunch menu. When your done with dinner- you can always walk to one of the dance clubs nearby- nothing too fabulous- but a fun night with friends in Eugene. read more

Live ensemble, bass piano and trombone, set the tone. Ate upstairs so enjoyed the view of entire space. Crab cakes were ok. Steamer clams were amazing. My son had them as his entree. The beet salad was perfect. Wouldn't change a thing. Husband ordered lasagne. He didn't realize it was vegetarian but he enjoyed it just the same. read more

Pros: I went to spend my anniversary dinner here because the ambiance is great and they got us a really nice table on the second floor which really set the mood for the night. We ordered the Traditional Bruschetta and it was soooo good, I'd highly recommend it for a appetizer, the balsamic on it and the vegetables were divine. What I actually got for my meal was the Fettuccine Davide which was also delicious. It wasn't oily and it was the perfect amount of pasta to sauce ratio. Our server was so nice and quick on her feet. Definitely got good staff that night. Cons: So originally I was supposed to go last Saturday but unfortunately caught the sickbug. I ended up calling to move my reservation to next Saturday and the lady assured me it was moved over. I get to Thursday and I have a gut feeling that I should call to make sure and I come to find out she never rescheduled my reservation so I'm glad I checked because then I'd be waiting an hour for a table that probably wasn't half as good as the one we just got. If you make a reservation , PLEASE double check before you go that they put it in. Secondly, my husband ordered the Calzone, he began to try to cut it (also they have the dullest knifes ever) the bottom of the calzone was so tough to eat, the toppings that were supposed to be inside were barely there, it was mostly cheese, which also was so bad. It was already so dry and chewy, he ended up just giving up a quarter the way through. It was just a lackluster of a meal for him. Definitely don't recommend ordering their calzones, PERIOD. I'd go with something that isn't bread forward just cause their dough is just not up to standard. Also, good luck having dinner past 7, it gets SOOOO loud because everyone downstairs at the bar starts to get so drunk that it kinda ruins the peace when you're trying to have a nice dinner with somebody. Overall my husband and I's experience was neutral, I didn't hate the place, but didn't love it either. I'd recommend making reservations between 4:30-6:30, you'll have a way better time. read more

I have to say I wasn't impressed I heard so many great things about it I realize I was here on Christmas Eve but I made a reservation for 645 I didn't get my food until 8 PM and it was just OK. I had the lamb and it was like warm. and my husband had the chefs special. I could've gone to Olive Garden for the pasta that was served to my husband the only thing that was actually really good was the wild boar ribs and the wine was good. Service was sub par. We took our food to go. Not going back. Also when we asked the waiter about our food, he brought it out finally and my husbands pasta special was scalding hot, and my food was lukewarm. His had been put in the microwave obviously. So disappointed. read more

If you are easily charmed by old-style soft light, dark wood, and bright service, in a classy downtown location, you'll like Ambrosia. Lots of local regulars agree, as you'll learn on your second or third visit here. Best mai tai I've had in years, best bartender I've met in years (HI ROBYN!) and Ambrosia actually changed my mind about crab cakes -- turns out Dungeness is not the only delicious crab on the planet. read more

Loved it! Visited Ambrosia with my boyfriend and his family who were visiting from Los Angeles. None of us had visited Ambrosia but it turned out to be as good as I had heard. We went for a late dinner, and the staff (waiter Chad) were super friendly, and since they were out of regular bread served us a focaccia pizza that was to die for. The wine list was also great, and we enjoyed the various bottles that our waiter recommended. Although my Mushroom Ravioli was behind due to a mix up in the kitchen, but once it arrived it was completely unique and I was very happy with it. Overall good experience and our whole group loved it. read more

Our entrees were excellent, but our experience was not. When we arrived early in the dinner hour on a Friday we were told to expect a 20 to 30 minute wait, so not unusual for downtown. We sat at the bar and ordered a cocktail (bartender got drink order wrong, but charged us half price) where we waited one hour to be seated. After we were seated we were given a complementary drink for our wait and things seemed to pick up after we ordered our food. An hour and forty five minutes into this experience, after the waiter let us know that one of our entrees had been dumped on the floor and the kitchen was hastily making a new plate, I went out to add an hour to the meter. The food was excellent, but when we paid our bill the waiter rang up a neighboring table whose bill was twice that of ours. This error again was politely corrected, but this was not the relaxed dining experience we were seeking. read more

This place is great!!!!! The atmosphere is very authentic and old fashioned. Alot of character to the building. It almost looks like a museum, but in a good way! They even have there own bakery in the back, were they make there bread fresh, all pastries and desserts, and croutons. I know that they make all of there salad dressings fresh from scratch snf use alot of organic products, including the fresh spring salad mix. The soups are all made fresh daily and you can tell. There is always a fish special, s pasta special , and a steak special. It's good, fresh food!!!! And the wine list is very underrated. The wine manager really knows his stuff, and the staff is very informative about the selections as well. The desserts are very light and delightful. Even the coffee and espresso drinks are great. This is my kind of place, give it a try a few times, a great place to impress a date. read more

I loved my meal. That's honestly all I remember from my visit. It's like the girl's name you can't remember but you remember her having a nice swoon to her walk. Ya dig? That halibut... that sauce. What sauce you say? Lemon, dill, shallot, white wine sauce. Perfectly grilled halibut on a bed of greens and tasty risotto. Appetizer is fresh bread with garlic and olive oil. I loved my meal. That's really all I know. The layout was a little awkward, some tables really close, some 6 person tables next to 2 person tables, creates contravaling noise levels throughout the floor. I feel like having a more romantic and quiet section for 2-4 people, and then some more loud tables in another section for groups is a better option. Staff was good, you can always tell when the staff really loves food and cooking because our server definitely didn't play the halibut and that sauce up to what it should be. Saying "it's popular and I like it" doesn't do justice to a wonderful dish. read more

Ambrosia is a seemingly quaint place with open space. Arched windows, hardwood floors and dim lighting greet you. It is much bigger inside than it looks from outside. I had scallops for dinner and they were nicely prepared, mildly seasoned and seared. I had dinner here with my co-worker as we were traveling for work. I do t recall what he had, but commented that he was very satisfied with his meal. I had a fresh ginger and soda water drink - A nice alternative to standard soda. The waitress checked in with us, but was not overbearing. After dinner we drank beer up at the bar. There were several Oregon brews on tap. Mary, our barmaid, provided a few samples to us. Mary was great, put up with our weird Houstonian humor and told us stories /helpful info when she had a chance. The rest of the staff we saw, from management to servers, were a friendly sort. They were fun and would chat when they had time. I don't usually like to visit the same places twice when I visit a town, but I would visit here again if I had the chance. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Ambrosia this past Thursday. We had a reservation and did have to wait a few minutes to be seated; however, the staff was wonderful. I think maybe they were shorthanded in the kitchen because the food order did take a bit, but they were fully aware of this. They offered us a sweet dessert of choice at the end of our meal since they knew the dinner wait was longer than usual. We would never complain to a waitress about a long wait time (it's tough to be a waiter!), but the fact that our waitress acknowledged the wait time and then offered dessert to compensate was very nice. What fantastic customer service! Our cocktails were also well-made. Thank you! We will be back. read more
