The stars are based on food AND service. Unfortunately I have to write a long review in order to paint the picture. We ordered the Bacon Blue, the Wyatt Earp, and garlic tots. Bacon Blue - 3 stars it just needed a sauce/anything creamy Wyatt Earp - 5 stars nothing really to complain about but if I want to nitpick I could have used more smoke/char I'll apologize now for not having names lol. The food was great, so of course I would go back, but what solidified it for us was the service. We arrived and were seated outside. A gentleman stops by to take our order. I go to the restroom and on my way back that same gentleman asked me if I could take the water back to the table. He gave some reasons for the ask but it didn't matter. If it helps him, I'm fine doing it within reason. So as we are waiting for our food another staff member comes back and she asks if we've been waiting long. It didn't feel like it but we gave her a ballpark wait time and she moved on. Some time passes and she comes back to ask again. It seemed like she was concerned. So she comes back a third time and asks what we ordered so she can investigate what's going on. She discovered that the order wasn't input into the system and gets it in. The gentleman from earlier comes out, apologized and adjusted the bill for the inconvenience without us having to say anything. Every single staff member that we interacted with had amazing energy and was extremely friendly and helpful. To all business owners...this is how customers should be treated. Own your errors and provide a reasonable "comp" not to break the bank but to let the customer know that you care about their patronage. I will definitely go back and recommend this place to anyone I come in contact with because of that fact. read more

I got the pulled pork grilled cheese. I think the cheese wasn't quite melty enough so that was a bit disappointing. My husband got the guilty burger and he really liked it. What a gem in this cool town of Southern California! I was on a recent trip visiting relatives and we were craving a good burger. American Grub DID NOT disappoint! The burgers were all amazing... cooked perfectly and each with its own distinct flavor and style. The fries... amazing... the tater tots... amazing... and they have homemade potato salad! My wife and I went down to Tustin for an errand and were looking for a restaurant to have lunch. We settled on American Grub. This is the first time we ventured into Old Town Tustin and I must say it's pretty cool. There are a lot of eateries and shops. Today, Wednesday, there was an open market but it was too hot for us so we skipped it. We got to the restaurant right as it opened at 11 am. We decided to sit outside as we were in the shade and there was a nice breeze. Indoors looked inviting as well. Our server was a nice young man who was attentive and accommodating. There was also a very friendly woman that came out and talked to us. The place is owned by women so maybe this was an owner. I ordered a grilled chicken wrap and my wife ordered the basic burger. Both were very tasty. I was surprised that the burgers and sandwiches don't come with sides, but we ordered French fries and there were plenty for the both of us. My only complaint was that the krinkle fries, though piping hot, were not crispy, the why I like them, and not seasoned, so even with a lot of salt they were still pretty bland. I have always walked past this place but have never gone inside. One night, my family and I decided to come here for dinner around 6:30pm on a cold Saturday. We had to wait about 10 minutes. The place is kind of small so it is harder to go with a larger group of people. The service was fast and the food was amazing! Guilty Burger: Angus beef patty, applewood-smoked bacon, cheddar, pepper-jack cheese, swiss, applewood-smoke bacon, fried egg, spicy mayo, toasted brioche bun. OMG this was so big and delicious! My sister and I shared this and it was perfect because I don't eat very much but I am sure for a person who does eat a whole burger, this thing will fill you up! Very flavorful and the perfect amount of seasoning. It also came with a side of their homemade potato salad which was great as well. There is a split fee if you want to split your food since they split it and give the other person their own side of potato salad but if you don't want that split charge, they will just give you one side and won't charge you Canjun fries: a must get! you can never go wrong with fries! Fried green beans: I love fries but man, I think this beats it! So crispy and flavorful on the outside and when you dunk it in their house special sauce, game changer! The food here is decent. Not spectacular or even very good. The garlic fries are over cooked and come out almost hard. Not awful. But not good either. The pastrami burger was not bad. The beef patty wasn't seasoned well and the pastrami was a little dry. But still not bad. The potato salad is actually the best food item they have. It wasn't bland and was actually really good. The tab came out to almost $70 for 1 beer, 2 burgers, 1 fries order and a waffle sundae. Way too much for dry fries and dry burger. For $7 I could get a triple/triple from In and out and been way more satisfied. The service is pretty good. Though I had to ask to have our waters refilled. The place has a nice feel and you get that old school burger joint history. Again this place isn't bad. But the price you pay for what you get isn't great. So this new culture of nickel and dimming for every little thing from grilled onions to sauce is just tacky and they charge for sauce here. I just spent $16 on your burger. That didn't have a lot of flavor, was over cooked and dry. No I did not send back what would have been every single item except dessert. Plus it wasn't that it was awful. It just what your style of burger is. Other than going back into your kitchen and starting from scratch with the patty prep. It's just not juicy and moist. Also to charge .50 cents for a thimble of sauce is the epitome of nickel and dime. I understand Prices of food are ridiculous right now. But $70 dollars for that meal is unacceptable. This place is great if you're looking for an excellent burger and fries. They also have many other sandwich options (pulled pork and chicken) that I would love to come back and try. The burger was just the right size in my opinion and came with a very tasty potato salad. Also, don't forget to order fries!!!! The fries are so deliciously crispy and flavorful. They charged for every single item.. couldn't switch the side of coleslaw with fries ( which makes sense when I got my meal because it was such small amount) the ranch was $.75 which is understandable but who wouldn't want fires with their burger? My family wanted burgers before a big game :) I found this place on Yelp and so glad I did! The hostess (didn't catch her name) was really nice & sweet as well as accommodating (4/24 around 12:30pm was our visit time) We were on a time sensitive schedule due to our sons game. We were on the list but I asked about the booths by the window and she was able to make it happen and our wait wasn't so bad. As soon as you walk in, the place is well decorated, loved the ambiance! It was clean too. Our server Derek was kind enough to let us know of the garlic fries serving, since my family and I initially ordered 3. We were first timers and didn't know better, so this suggestion was appreciated. Hate to waste food. Our food came in a timely manner. Everything was really good! We had the cheese burger, Wyatt Earp, bacon cheeseburger and it was good quality burgers. The entire staff were extremely friendly! Wonderful hospitality, very inviting. Garlic fries - A must order! I loved their garlic crinkle styled fries. It was served with ranch but if they had garlic aioli, I'd think the two would pair well. AG chicken plate - Unfortunately, the chicken was dry. Tater tots were crispy and yummy. AG club - something was missing. Haven't been to old town Tustin much since living here and decided to venture out and see what out. Due to COVID most places were either close or those with outdoor dining were able to remain open. Walking by came across this place and they had about 10-12 sets of tables outside. Everyone in mask gloves attire. Service was wonderful indeed. Very casual outside dining for date night, group outing, celebrations, and so forth. Menu consisted of many choices of burgers, appetizers, salads, kid friendly options, various sides, beers wine, and dessert. Order the pastrami burger, garlic tots, garlic fries, wyatt earp, and beers that came in 14oz or 24oz. Pastrami burger was a bit overcook for my liking however it was tasty with the brioche bun that was toasted and fluffy and Many pickles for the crunch and mustard to add to the tang. A little side of potato salad also came with the burger that creamy and added nice flavor. The wyatt Earp burger reminded me of the bacon western cheeseburger from Carl's Jr. definitely the crunch of the onion ring stood out. Both burgers were not overpowering but enough to be filling. The garlic fries and tots were tasty and generous portions to share with a person. Very fresh made to order, hot upon arrival and for someone who loves garlic both were super! I had the Mushroom Swiss Burger in mind when I stopped by, but the waitress convinced me on the Loco Moco special they were having for the day. It was basically what I wanted, except there is white rice and sunny-side up eggs in place of the bottom and top bun, respectively. In theory that sounded great, but the restaurant is American Grub, not Hawaiian or Asian Grub. The white rice was the Asian round-grained variety. I don't know whether they used a rice cooker or whatnot, but they probably should have. It almost seemed as if the rice was cooked in cups, since the grains around the periphery were a bit under-cooked, while the center was a bit soggy. The rest of it (the patty, the onions, egg, etc.) were a bit on the salty side, but nevertheless delicious. At a glance, a burger at $17 might not seem worth it, but the size of the patty and the ingredients makes it a cut above regular burgers. Not necessarily the best I've ever had, but I felt it was a decent deal given food inflation and all. I would maybe suggest they do a lunch option and throw in a quarter serving of fries and small salad for a few bucks. It's the fact that the burger is standalone that might make it a harder sell. I did bring up the issue about the rice to one of waitresses, and after confirming with the kitchen they gave me a 20% discount on the item. Which was, I guess, a satisfactory resolution. The sauce mixed with the rice made the under-cooking more palatable. I also ordered garlic fries, which came in a large-ish plate that might serve 2 people just fine. The first thing that came to mind was "crunchy". It's the thin and long cut, although somewhat angled like a crinkle-cut. A waitress served it with a cup of ranch sauce, then came back with another cup of ketchup "just in case". The taste here was also good. It had enough garlic without it being overbearing, nor was it overly salty. Probably the best part about this experience with American Grub was the service. The waitresses always came by with a big smile. They refilled the water promptly, asked if I needed anything, and took care of my concerns. I also liked that the water was a full glass instead of a small cup. During the meal, I glanced at their beer menu and saw a bunch of craft beer offerings such as Unicorn Juice, said to be infused with passion fruit on a farm maintained by Oompa Loopas. Sounds funny, maybe I'll give that a shot if I ever make it back. read more

My love usually orders the Wyatt Earp - a gourmet burger with onion rings, cheese, & barbecue sauce. I usually have the Hawaiian Chicken burger with Sweet Potato Fries. They make them JUST RIGHT - ya know what I mean? Crispy but not *too* crispy?! Soooo good! The furniture lover in me loves the rustic industrial decor - wow! Mostly tables for 2-4 ppl. As a vegetarian, I'm always on the lookout for restaurants that offer mouthwatering meatless burger patty options. I've tried several impossible patties and have faced utmost disappointments. They're either too chewy or just made for the sake for having a vegan/vegetarian option on the menu with zero effort to add flavours.. I decided to give American Grub's Black Bean Burger a try. AND, *drumroll* we have a winner! The black bean patty is made in-house and is packed with flavours. Sandwiched in their brioche bun with the apt veggies and homemade dressings, it's a delight! This is by far the best veggie burger I've ever had. Their appetizers are bomb!l! The crispiest onion rings and the garlic fries are on a next level! These 3 are our go-to items. They have a nicely curated beer menu too - which is seasonal I'm guessing. I had a beer which had a hint of guava to it. It was my favourite! However, the next time we went in, they did not have it on the menu. Nevertheless, American Grub is a must visit!
