I kept hearing the sound of water rushing in our kitchen. After walking outside, the culprit was found - a leak that was running from the kitchen sink pipe to the outside. We called our usual plumber, Dirk, and he referred us to American Leak Detection. Matthew Graham (Matt) showed up 10 minutes early and got right to it. A couple discovery holes were required, but he found is quickly. Even though he wasn't scheduled to fix it, he said he was going to get it done today. After three hours, we were good as new. wow. this plumber spent very little time trying to assess how we had water gushing out our ceiling and determined it came from a one inch missing caulk on the outside of the tub. Impossible. We hired another to come and within 30 mins figured out the issue. Due to this young kids inexperience... our insurance claim is not fixing the ceiling. Beware if your insurance uses them. A copper pipe sprang a leak in the concrete slab that is beneath my wooden kitchen floor. Oh, joy. I envisioned the wood being ripped out, jackhammers tearing through the concrete, chaos. American leak detection sent Ramiro out the next day. He expertly found the leak with high tech listening devices very quickly. He then determined what we would need to do to fix it. No wood ripping no jackhammers. Now, I am an honest guy and the leak was not fixed by magic. Ramiro did have to cut through some drywall in our family room, under our kitchen sink and in our laundry room to precisely determine the path of the hot water from the water heater to the leak. Once he did that, he knew what to do. We made an appointment for Ramiro to return to do the repair. In short, American Leak detection runs a sturdy 200psi plastic pipe THROUGH the damaged copper pipe and makes new connect connections at either end thereby bypassing the leak. Bingo. Leak is over. Hot water flows to where it's supposed to. Showers, laundry, dishwasher all running leak free. That being said; I will have to have some drywall repaired and repainted. We had a leak in out old pool system. My pool guy recommended American Leak Detection who came out and found the leak. They were hired to replace the skimmer and the leaking line and were not cheap - $3500 for a day's work for two guys and a couple of hundred at most in materials. But I have an old pool and somewhere long before we bought the house, the bottom drain had been removed leaving the skimmer as the only inlet to the pump. The difficulty is that should the water fall below the skimmer, the pump dries and and burns up and destroys itself. For safety an equalizer was installed, this is simply a piece of 2" PVC pipe that goes into the skimmer chamber about a foot below the skimmer level. This gives about a 1 foot safety margin in the pool level that once saved my butt when an old pool guy left the pool siphoning too long and drew the level below the skimmer. My problem is that when American Leak Detection replaced the skimmer, they removed the equalizer thus removing this necessary safety feature. When I pointed this out they said that putting it in would cost another $3500. Bullshit. It would have entailed about one foot of 2" PVC punched into the plastic skimmer housing - $2 of parts and ten minutes of work as the hole was already there so that the pipe just needed to be threaded through. I guess life will be OK as long as no other mistake lets the pool level fall. But they removed what I consider to be an essential safety feature without clearing it with me ahead of time. I had a pool leak and they came just spent around determined it's skimmer leaking for 40 minutes and offered me an amount to fix the leak. I found a better price to fix the skimmer. After the fix, the pool still leaking and then I called them they wanted me to ask the repair person to detect the portion and promise will contact me regarding their detection methods. I didn't receive their call and the repair guy found out it's the drainage pipe leak. Which I asked them when do the inspection if it's possible the main drain leak and they said really it's RARE and didn't inspect it!!! I have used American Leak Detection on 2 occasions. The first time was great. This past experience not so great. We are purchasing a house and the inspection was in a week. We had a leak in the kitchen under the slab. The following photos show the mess were left with , 4 days till our appraisal. Broken tile, hole in the sink cabinet bottom and hole in the wall under the sink. The leak was fixed and they just walked away. I spent the past few nights after work trying to find matching. The water level in our pool was dropping. Every morning we found that level was about 2 inches lower than the day before. I felt like the boy in Hans Brinker, "Just as he was bracing himself for a run, he was startled by the sound of trickling water. Whence did it come? He looked up, and saw a small hole in the dike... The little hole, if water were allowed to trickle through, would soon be a large one; and a terrible inundation would be the result." In this story the boy saved Haarlem from being flooded by sticking his finger in the dike plugging the hole. Right now, I needed someone to save our backyard from a terrible inundation and sticking my finger in a hole was a creative solution, to be sure, but not one that I felt was practical in our current situation. I asked around and was referred to American Leak Detection. After checking their ratings, I called and they were able to come out to our house for their diagnostic test within a couple of days. The leak detection specialist was prompt and friendly on the day of the appointment. The testing was thorough, involving every potential point where the leak could be originating. Our leak was determined to be in the pipe leading from the skimmer back to the pump. We were given a quote on the price for American Leak Detection to fix our problem. The estimate projected about one full day of work to patch the hole in our dike. I asked and was told that if the amount of work required to fix the leak was less than their estimate then the price would likely be lowered but the price would not be higher even if the work was greater than what they anticipated. The validity of this assurance was put to the test in our case. The first day it became apparent that the leak was in a pipe that was unexpectedly found to be encased in concrete. Four full time days of work later for multiple workers and our leak was finally fixed. The work involved not only releasing the offending pipe from its concrete encasement and patching the leak, but also opening a large portion of the pool deck to obtain access to the affected pipe. After the pipe was fixed and the whole system tested to confirm the leak had been eradicated, they expertly reconstructed the pool deck leaving an unblemished surface when they finished. Throughout this ordeal, the workers from American Leak Detection were unfailingly polite and diligent in their pursuit of the chink in our pool's armor. In the end, our leak was fixed and true to their word they stuck to the original estimate despite the significant amount of extra work that was involved in our repair. American Leak Dection is a great company with high integrity and superior customer service. I hope we never develop another leak, but if we do there is no other company that I would consider to do the work. read more

I highly recommend american leak detection. They're honest, professional and budget sensitive. My house had an unknown leak somewhere between the drive way and the house, about 300 feet. It was discovered during Xmas so I received a notice from water company. Unfortunately, no one was available and the leak is unknown. So my friend recommended me american leak and Barbara was super helpful and even recommended me to contact my builder first. After unsuccessful attempt to contact my builder, I called back Barbara and she schedule Jim to come out and take a look. Yes, it cost $375 for their leak detection and over $100 an hour after first 90 min. Jim was professional but was unable to detect the leak. He told me he will come back again and should be able to locate it with another help. However, he was very courteous in recommending me to try contacting the builder again since it should be covered under the warrantee. He said if it means cancelling him, he will be happy for us even though he did work for nothing. I followed his advice and tried contacting the builder after the New Years and they did respond. I called back and cancelled the second appointment and Barbara was very gracious over the phone. It took over 7 hours for the builder to detect the leak some 250 feet away from my house and eventually fixed it. But I felt the need to share this experience about this honest company. I practically had to beg for him to listen to where I heard the leaking noise, and he made no attempt to look under the house where it was wet. They were going to jackhammer my slab to get to the alleged leak. They quoted me $4,000.00 to do the repair! Thankfully I called American Leak Detection. Manuel came out to my home and found that my leak was from my shower valve and not from the sewer pipe in the slab. The men wore masks and boot covers. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Long story short. The lady on the phone assured me that their guys are great at finding the leak with a special equipment. The leak wasn't where they said it was after digging through the tile. They wanted to make more holes. I said no. He wanted to charge for the digging. I refused because the leak wasn't where he said it was. The whole thing turned ugly from there. I hired another guy after that, he listened for the leak through the screw driver and found the leak!
