Unfortunately I have had to contact Chris and his staff twice over the last year on two isolated slab leaks (through referrals from other plumbers who could not do the job). Chris, the owner, personally came out and did the initial inspection. American Leak Detection was a referral by a trusted friend and retired plumber. When Garrett and his helper came out to do the job a couple of days later they went in through the drywall behind my dryer and again in the corner of the garage. The leak went all the way out to the meter outside. In less than two hours they finished the job expertly and left no trace of debris or jack hammering my beautiful tile floor (that was the case 10 years ago by another plumber). I was referred to American Leak Detection by my insurance carrier USAA. This meant that Chris Graham worked for the insurance company not me. My water leak under the house was from a pinhole in a galvanized pipe which subsequently rusted over. His report was correct, but it was worded in such a way that the insurance company initially denied my claim. He reported that "water entered from an unknown source", but he could not demonstrate that source. USAA denied my claim. I threatened to file a claim in Small Claims Court and USAA sent out a "field adjuster". This man was not a USAA employee, but from an independent company. I never saw his report, but two days later USAA approved my claim. Remember, Chris, while a hard working nice human being, is not looking out for the homeowner's interests. I had a nasty hot water leak running from my hot water heater in the garage to the kitchen - quite far away. I had quotes to repipe and cut through my ceiling and floor joists. ALD came and said they could run a PEX line through the bad copper pipe and not tear up my house. It took 2 guys about 5 hours to do that since there are some issues with an old repair of the bad pipe. But they completed the job and voila! - no hot water leak. Wow - this company was AMAZING! They were recommended by another plumber who did not have the leak detection equipment. We called at 11:00 a.m. and someone was here by noon. Had a leak under the slap, they showed up, found the leak and discussed options with me. Up to this point my experience was good. He mentioned that my main shutoff valve was not working properly, even when turned off it was still allowing water into the house. So he recommend that I replace the valve immediately, That made sense since we were shutting down the main valve to minimize the water damage in the house, until we had the leak repaired. He charged $175 to change the valve but when the job was completed the valve was leaking. He said if we do the slab leak repair with them then he would fix the leaking valve that he just installed for no charge. He left the job and left the valve leaking. Needless to say I used another plumber to fix both the slab leak and the leaking valve. As for just leak detection they did a good job. read more

Had a slab leak after a tankless install. Called American Leak and Melissa called me back promptly. This happened on the weekend so I decided to call my home warranty first. They came out and fixed my pressure regulator. The leak stopped. They told me I had to just wait til the leak started again. A whole week past and I decided it's silly just to sit there and wait. Called American Leak back and Melissa got Chris out to my house. He told me he wouldn't be able to find a leak because the meter wasn't running. Sign of an honest man. I think other companies would just do the detection and charge me even though they didn't find a leak. I've had a few plumbers that fixed things that didn't need to be fixed. I had a few pipes that were installed weirdly in the garage so I hired Chris to fix it. A few days past and I asked Chris to come by to give me a quote to re-pipe the entire house. Horrible leak beneath our slab 1950's home. Jim was able to detect and strategically plan the best method of replacing pipes without destroying our house. Jim and Matt both came out and completely replaced our cold water pipes with copper piping. It was not an easy job since we don't have an attic. They worked hard into the evening to ensure everything was just right. Our other contractor had to contact Jim for a quick question and he responded quickly. I will not use anyone else and here is why: I had purchased a home in Fontana 6 months ago and noticed my hot water heater has been leaking all over my garage... American Leak Detection came out and noticed my hot water heater was still under warranty and they went through all the trouble to take it down for me and go exchange it with the manufacturer for me... saving me all the time, trouble and effort... you gotta' ask youself... "Who does that nowadays?" I think they are amazing... We were in a desperate situation. Our main water line into our house broke underneath the concrete slab of the house and flooded the bottom floor. We had to shut off all the water into the house. These guys found the broken pipe under the floor within inches of the break. Things got much more complicated from there, but to make a very long story short, they ended up putting a whole new water line into the house. Every step of the way they were working with us to figure out the cheapest way to fix the problem. What nice guys! I would recommend them to anyone I know. So rare these days to find this kind of service. We feel so fortunate to have had them recommended to us by another plumber who felt like the job was too much for him. It was a somewhat involved, labor-intensive job and Matt and Jim did a phenomenal job (and finished in one day). TL;DR version - Company made an error in detecting exact nature of leak then charged $1350 for cost of work done based on mis-detection error. When questioned, blamed error on limits of detection equipment which was never discussed when going over repair options, but please read full review for context. I usually dislike negative reviews, so I'll try to be as honest and objective as I can. First of all, the people who work here are beyond nice and polite, even though we had some disagreements they were always willing to listen and explain things to me from their perspective in a respectable way. I also think they are generally knowledgeable about what they do and the actual workmanship seemed to be of a good quality (though I really have no idea of how to tell good plumbing from bad). They are definitely not a fly-by-night operation, looking to scam people - and in percentage terms I would be confident that they would most likely be able to handle your issue. I personally would not use them again, but that has more to do with principle then a worry that they would perform poorly. That being said, that tiny percentage of times when things do go wrong was my situation and my issues with them arise from the way they handled it. I called about what we later found out to be a slab leak in the garage of one of my tenant-occupied units. Chris came out with his equipment, which seems to consist of a laser that detects temperature changes and wrote up his report telling me that there was a leak in the hot water pipe. Just the detection was $275 and this does not count towards any future work. The options they provided me with were to do a direct repair for $1350 which would last fora few years or a re-route for $2250 which would completely fix the problem. Since I don't plan on owning this house for much longer, I opted for the direct repair. We made an appointment to come out the following Tuesday and they completely no-showed. Usually at this point I would have dropped them and looked for someone else but it was a tenant occupied unit and affecting their supply of hot water so I re-scheduled with them for that Saturday just to get it taken care of. Long story, short - while they had told me that told me there was a single leak coming from my pipe, when they went in to direct repair it , they found multiple leaks that they had been unable to detect previously and were unable to complete the repair. However, they still charged me the FULL price of $1350.00 for the repair. Yes, thirteen hundred and fifty dollars. They ended up having to do a more expensive re-route, which also left me with multiple holes in my drywall that needed to be repaired. The problem I have is that once they attempted the repair the additional leaks were not present in the hole they made, but two and three feet away. Suddenly their leak detection equipment that I had paid to have them come and use was able to detect what I had already paid for them to detect - and obviously this additional information materially changed our situation and we never would have done the direct repair if there were multiple leaks already present. As soon as I started questioning the full charge since the advice I followed was based on their own leak detection work, they started backtracking and telling me how unfortunate it was and how it wasn't their fault and that their equipment is only so accurate but yes they would still be charging me for the entire repair even though it was not completed. I was really disappointed by their failure to stand behind their own service and make excuses instead of solutions. To be fair, they did give me a credit of $200 and offered to cover the cost of drywall repair for my problem, but it was offered to me at the same time they were selling me on having them complete the repair by doing the $2250 re-route so I'm not sure how much of it was a discount versus how much of it was to keep them from losing out on a $2250 sale. They also discounted me $100 for the no-show they had and replaced a vanity mirror they cracked while doing the repair, I mention these because when I was discussing my situation with the owner, he repeatedly mentioned these as things they had done to remedy the problem I had with the $1350 charge, even though they were completely unrelated. read more

My house apparently was being double fed in two places. They fixed it promptly. You pay for the work but these guys have the knowledge of years of experience. American Leak Detection has been out to fix 2 leaks within the last year. They are always courteous, from the first phone call to the person who fixes the problem. They are on time or early. The work is done promptly and professionally. They discuss the options with us and try to do the least invasive options possible. Jim and Nick came out right on time and had my slab leak found and explained to me the best way to fix it, in under an hour. I set up the appointment with them right there to make the repairs. Unable to fix any leak after 3 times of trial advised to change the whole system what a great help

I had a slow leak somewhere in my house. The house is on a slab and there was no evidence of it except that the water meter was running all the time. My plumber found two leaks (water heater and irrigation) but the meter was still running. My water co. recommended American Leak Detection. The service I got was tremendous. It was a difficult leak to locate. There was no visible evidence only a slight sound of water running and after much analysis Gene initially thought the leak was under the kitchen floor and that the floor would need to be jack hammered. Matt and his assistant also came by and were obviously very knowledgeable about plumbing providing further clues about my system. Gene came to repair the leak and after extensive testing determined that the leak was not under the slab (to my great relief) but in the flower bed just outside the kitchen. He capped off the leaking section of pipe and replaced the section with a new copper pipe. I was so impressed by their expertise and persistence. I recommend them highly! read more

After noticing a water drip from the ceiling of my unfinished basement, I called a local plumber who said he had never seen anything like this. He referred me to a copper pipe repair business who without coming to my house said I should re-pipe the whole house for about $11,000, or I could repair some pipes and valves for about $1,800. Ridiculous, when that company never came to our house or knew what needed fixing. I then called American Leak Detection and Gene came out to see what was wrong. He found the source of the drip in 3 minutes. It was from a pinhole leak in one pipe. He immediately put a temporary patch on it and returned the next day to make a permanent repair and also replaced 2 gate valves which didn't operate properly. All this cost only a fraction of the amount the copper pipe repair company asked for a repair that wouldn't have even fixed the problem.
