I have been struggling with a leak and pool issues for years doing my own work around and patches until my work was no longer sufficient and so I called ALD to come out. I was 99% sure it was the skimmer and so paying them 490 dollars to tell me what I already knew irked me but when all was said and done it was nice to have a thorough check out of all the drainpipes lights etc and after seeing the amount of actual work and demo required to replace and repair it I thought the price was fair for the install as well . The star of the show was Dominick the repairman on site. At first I thought who is this kid they sent over. Younger than my youngest daughter but I was so blown away by his professionalism , work ethic and communication and expertise not to mention his conscientious commitment to getting every step perfect even capping old pipes that I would hire ALD again and recommend them to everyone. A technician from the North Bay and Peninsula came over to detect a leak in my irrigation system that includes 12 vallves. He approached one valve, said it had a leak, took a picture, and then left after less than 10 min. And charged me $605. He did not even take a look at the water meter indicator to see if the leak is consistent with the water flow. The next day my plumber detected the real significant leak in a different valve and fixed it. It was the one driving the flow. Not the one the $605 technician identified earlier. read more

UPDATE: As it turns out, the two technicians (LG/DC) somehow were not able to detect the water under the flooring. They claimed it was all very dry. NOT!! It was completely wet underneath. Maybe if they had spent the full two hours looking for the leak, or, were more diligent in their investigation, or, checked the battery on their equipment... who knows. They detected moisture in one wall but just blew it off. They relied too heavily on the movement of the water meter to reveal any leakage. The report was short, vague and not at all useful. After spending the initial $495 for American Leak Detection to come to my house and pinpoint the leak, I have now spent $9,565.52 to have the sprinkler system fixed, AND the leak was NOT where it was pinpointed in the backyard. I had a leak on my 20-unit apartment complex. I was trying to ask American Leak Detection to help. They said that they will do a "site inspection" for $795 which will identify the "area/section" of leaking although not the specific leakage. For a specific leakage detection, a follow up checking will be needed. I probably should have asked what "specific methods" they usually use to determine "area/section" of leaking. During inquiry regarding the service, I did ask if they have acoustic listening devices or thermal imaging devices to detect leak. They said no. When the technican came to our site, he pointed out our MAIN SHUT-OFF VALVE IS NOT WORKING THEREFORE NO FURTHER ANALYSIS CAN BE DONE. And he suggested us to add more valves at different location to isolate the areas to help in isolate the leakage better. I would think if we have all the different valves installed, I wouldn't ask them to help finding the leak for us. I will not recommend American Leak Detection for leak detection since they don't have any advance devices to help you identify the leakage. read more

Beware, if your ins. company urges you to use American Leak Detection (ALD) for exterior water problem!! Was promised "lots of special equipment", "will find and mark location".Tech from ALD showed up and said "only here to do water pressure test" "not find leaks".He looked at meter while i turned on hose. Then he checked pressure on hot, cold and irrigation lines.(best most accurate way to check these lines is to turn on. which he did not do!) His final report states "all held pressure" and "NO LEAKS". (amazing that irrigation line has "no leaks" since partially dissembled and full of leaks when turned on!!!) Next this tech walked around my house taking pictures while making absurd unfoounded remarks that he neglected to put in his final report while actually denying some of them!!! Some examples are "you could put a french drain around your entire house" I stated more practical to find/repair leak! By just standing on my cracked driveway, without any tests, stated "i think you have a leak in your drain pipe" (covered by ins co.). His final report states "driveway cracks due to ground movement" (not covered). Drive way drain scoped few days later by real plumber and found leak in drain pipe. My property is flat and not able to visualize three sides due to hedges and fences which tech never even approached. (and no tests done) states moisture in back yard "rain related:. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I tried to provide dated pictures proving problem in back yard began BEFORE any rain and very dry!!! Tech refused to look at them.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] His report states "can only go by conditions at time of inspection". This company ALD must make an awful lot of mis diagnoses if they consider onset of problems as an unimportant issue!!! This tech actually even asked me (and included in report) if back yard water problem was worse with rain???? I intently looked at him searching for a logical reason for such a stupid question!!! (and found none) I have to be careful here since this tech is a relative of part of management of ALD but i also have to be honest. I found this tech to be very dishonest in denying comments made to me and the differences in the report!!!I also found him to be extremely unqualified to be doing any water pressure tests!!!! Saw what he believed the problem was, got his meters and equipment and went to work. My insurance company isn't going to pay, they say this is a "flood exclusion" issue. This company is fabulous! It is not our first time using them. They have come to our property a few times for broken underground irrigation. They have never let us down. This week we had a damp spot in our drive, that turned into a puddle, that quickly within a couple of hours turned into a cascade that started showing water 20 feet from where we first noticed it to the other side of the property. We knew we had issues. We had an earthquake the night before and thought fore sure it had something to do with it. Sadly it was Saturday, so I called but they were closed, so I left a message. We shut our water off and turned it on only as necessary until Monday. I got a call first thing Monday morning. Vince was awesome, he said we are booked out today but let me see what I can do, if not we will come first thing tomorrow. He called me later in the day and said he had good news they were on their way! Michael shows up, asks a couple questions, pulls out the detector and goes on the hunt. I ask a lot of questions and he is happy to answer. He gives a great analogy of what he is listening for and what he is looking to hear. When he finds it he says hear that! Yes Sir I do and the analogy was spot on! He does some testing places the mark and gives me a repair estimate. Runs through the repair info and some details of what happens. I call Vince, ask some questions and he tells me they can fix it tomorrow! Start to finish, concrete and all and Michael will be the one coming back out. Perfect! 7:30am time. Arrived when scheduled, ready to get into it! He explained the whole thing including worst case, no surprises. Of course our pipe wasn't normal and our concrete was thick so it was more than the original estimate (but all things known prior) Michael worked all day on his own to get this cut, dug, repaired, buried and concreted, tinted and speckled just like it was from start to finish in less than 24 hours. Excellent job! With as much of the mess cleaned as possible. While it wasn't cheap, you don't expect it will be with the range of service they offer as a complete start to finish service, the peace of mind you get with it being one person from finding it to finishing it is worth it! No questions were ever a bother, no problems with you watching, very honest and courteous! Vince and Michael both worked hard to get us back up and running! We called ALD last week for the leaks in our old pool, in advance of a pool remodel. The technician, Andrew H., was on time, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. After the service call, we were provided with a detailed five-page report, with photos, that will help our pool contractor with the remodel. HOWEVER (and through no fault of Andrew), [[HIGHLIGHT]]the company did not tell us to top up our pool to above the suspected leaks so that Andrew could test all the cracks properly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (Our pool loses just 6" of water and then stops.) Because of that, the test results were "speculative" with regard to the leaking cracks (? bond beam) because the pool water level was too low to test properly. IN SUMMARY, we would use ALD again (and would request Andrew) with the caveat that you, as the customer, ask for absolute clarity in advance of the visit re: what you need to do to prepare for the service call. read more

American leak sent a two person team to our Home Owner's Asso. to find leaks in our irrigation system. The team that arrived informed us they were only responsible for finding a single leak. This is the first line in their contract, "American Leak Detection makes every effort to accurately locate your leak(s)..." So I was amazed when the crew said they would just find one. On top of that they failed to find the major leak and instead just identified a small leak in the system. The major leak, found today by SubDyanmic (whom I now highly recommend) was right underneath the backflush valves, so I don't see how they could have missed it. To come back and find the additional leaks they wanted to charge us a second time for the up front fixed fee to come back to our site.....ridiculous!!!!! I would never recommend this company to anyone, very disappointed in how they did their work. read more

We have a hot water pipe busted in our slab. our insurance company called these guys to come out to dine the leak. They we're unable to find the leak on Monday and we're supposed to send a report to my insurance company.
