The sushi here is super good and I'm never disappointed with the taste and presentation. However, there have been too many times where I've called multiple times in a hour trying to place an order and don't get a single answer. They also close earlier than they advertise randomly which is extremely frustrating. I've tried going with my family a handful of times and showed up and the were closed even though they advertise being open an hour or two longer. They have terrible customer service and I've had to wait 40+ minutes for an order after I arrive in the time they told me it would take. Sad because their food is great, it's just not worth the shitty service. read more

We've been to this new sushi place several times for lunch since they opened. For lunch, the all-you-can-eat deal is pretty steep... you'd have to eat 3 full rolls to cover the 15.95 price. But the sushi is decent, and it's nice to have a local place. UNFORTUNATELY, they are not very savvy when it comes to dinner time. They tried to accomodate a party of 20, with no reservation, by cramming tables together in their tiny restaurant, meanwhile paying no attention to the several parties of two who could have been seated, including us. By the time they leapfrogged us and seated a different two top, they had turned away 4 smaller parties. Their customer service skills basically suck. They should stick to lunch, and say no to a 20 top in such a small space. We ran right down the hill to Aloha in Folsom, and had the same style and value sushi, with no wait. read more

After years of driving to Sacramento and El Dorado Hills for sushi, a co-worker mentioned this place. After living in the bay area and dropping a boat load of money in sushi. I was surprised that this was in placerville. We arrived a bit before 5 P.M. and to be honest I was scared, scared that the sushi chefs where white and latino!!! After being seated and ordering, I dived into the best miso I had tasted ever. We went with the all you can eat deal, and boy did we eat!! The sushi was above par with what I have eaten in years!!! And the service was great! I did get chewed out on the ride home for over tipping, but I feel great service comes at a price. My friend who lives in Placerville took me here in March and I have been back several times since making the 2 hour drive from Petaluma just to eat there! Armando and Ernesto are fantastic. They are very accommodating with making beautiful rolls to order. (my friend doesn't like a lot of rice) The only problem with AIS is one of their waiters. Kevin, He needs to be fired! He is too touchy feely, too pushy, he kept telling us we were going to get HIM in trouble for ordering too much food! We were a party of 7, 5 of which were all you can eat. He took one of our plates away so that person, who is vegitarian would not eat anything from the others orders! UNBELIEVABLE! Especially as she wouldn't have touched the other stuff. On top of that he had the nerve to give himself a big fat tip! I will be back but will not let that man near my table or food. read more

I have eaten sushi all over the country, and for a small town this rates right up there with some of the best. The food is always fresh, and the waitstaff is always friendly and helpful. If you are not sure what to get, just tell the chefs what you like and they will make suggestions. They have never steered me wrong and I now have some new favorite I may never have tried. read more

Since my last review of this place over a year ago, the best sushi chef they had has left for his own resteraunt in Nevada. when I came in with my wife I also noticed the owner was not behind the bar making sushi insted there were 3 chefs. right away I noticed who the one running the joint was. He was friendly and seem to know wait he was doing.Our sushi was good but not great like it used to be. If im paying $60 for my wife and I, I think it should be worth it. I might give this place another shot, but probably will only order 2 rolls to see if its any better. read more

We have been going to Amerikan Ichi sushi sense it opened and were very happy with the food portions, staff ,price and atmosphere. Recently, we returned to find they no longer serve all you can eat sushi. When we received our sashimi platter the portions were small thinly sliced and the ahi tuna was cut in a 1" square,(literally a 1" square). The prices have gone up considerably and did not justify the amount of food we received. We will very disappointed and will not be returning. read more

Don't get me wrong on the rating, i come here all the time because the service is good and the food is great. However, I decided to order take-out and it seemed like the roll I ordered the previous day was bigger than the one I got to go. I called in to see why it was smaller and they said it all depends. So basically I got less food for the same price. There was about eight slices in the roll I got earlier, when I got it for take-out I the rolls were smaller and there were only 5 slices in the roll. I drive almost an hour just to come here and eat at least once a month or every other month. Customer service is always bad here with any given day but sushi is awesome. Tonight I went with a friend for All you can eat sushi dinner for $30 and we had this preggo lady served us. Our server took our orders and took it to the sushi maker. As soon as the sushi maker saw our orders...he shook his head and started laughing and looked at us few times. Ok so unprofessional! We were waiting for almost 25 mins for our food. We mentioned to the other server about "complimentary" appetizers coz there was a sign and our server never even offered it while waiting for our food for a very long time. The other server told me "do want me to bring you edamame?!" No any other options but edamame...So I guess! We waited another 15 mins and we finally got our rolls. We got our edamame after we got the rolls. We ordered 6 rolls and they only gave us 5 rolls...sushi maker left out one of the best roll out of the 6 and served us those 5 rolls....I never complained. Server never even mentioned that they left out one and it is coming later. I asked maybe after almost 25 mins about the other roll and she said that the roll is not ready....really?! After almost 25 mins?! You gotta be kidding me. Restaurant was even almost empty and just few people were in there. Our server never smiles from the time we walked in the restaurant...instead she give us the biggest attitude ever. I asked for the other roll and finally brought it out. I swear eversince we got our food....servers and sushi maker kept staring at us the whole time and it was VERY UNCOMFORTABLE....like really staring!!! My friend and I asked for the bill while we were still working on our sushi. I never even said I was done eating but the server got a box and told us that they have to charge us extra $10 coz we didn't finish our food all the way...wow!!! For few broken pieces...u have to be kidding me! (I posted a pic on how it looked when i boxed it). We were not even done with our food and she gave a box right away. I felt so embarrassed just by the way they kept staring and laughing at us. My friend just told me that we need to just get out of the place and pay so we don't have to argue. This place is a joke! Our bill was $75 for 2 people which I think ridiculous. I told my friend to just eat those pieces but we were so uncomfortable that we just needed to leave. I come here often that I even tell my other friends to come check out this restaurant but from this day forward ...I'm not giving them my business anymore nor recommending anyone to come over here. Sooo sooo bad customer service! Only if there's a way to give them zero stars. This is a very bad business!!! Take your money somewhere else....this place is a joke! PROS nice clean environment GREAT sushi fairly priced very nice presentation CONS the big TV behind the bar that plays Horrible music videos. i ate there and the porn like scenes didn't make me very hungry at all i suggest that they don't play sex scenes during dinner. especially when there are kids in the building. the big balding waiter "Kevin" my god is this guy obnoxious! he is always in my face about what to eat and what not to eat. i go there quite a bit and i know what i want! but he never fails to talk bad about what im getting. he'll be like "OH NO you don't want that, that's no good you should get this!" ???wtf???just let me order! and stop talking bad about your menu! one time i was in there and a young couple came in to eat and he shouted at the young man "HEY YOU NEED A JOB!?" the couple immediately turned around and left. i was shocked because they were all dressed up and OBVIOUSLY on a date. he is way too aggressive and he lacks the proper people skills to be a server. i wont even go in there if the big guy with the bald head is there. however everyone else is real sweet! and i love the food and atmosphere. great place! read more

Don't go! We just ate dinner here for the first time and chose the all you can eat for $26 each. We only had 4 nigiri each and only ate half the rice per fish. We see the waitress whisper to the Chef while eyeballing us he whole time. Finally, we find out there's nothing in our teeth or anything, they simply were game planning on forcing us to eat the other half of that rice. First the chef tells us, "you have to eat all your rice". We look over and they cleared our other plates away but left the one that had a bit of rice on it. I tell them "we didn't know, we'll eat the rest from here on". Which the waitress replies, " it says it right there on the menu". I tell her, we didn't read it, first time here. She replies "we will have to charge you extra if you don't eat it, you can speak to the manager if you like". I was shocked, how embarrassing! It was two spoon fills of rice. I came to Amerikan Ichi for the first time tonight. I ordered the Hawaiian chicken, which I normally get at Japanese restaurants because I've never liked sushi. Well, one of the people I was with ordered a few different rolls, and I figured I'd give it a try. I LOVED all of them!!! I had the Godzilla, and Calamari rolls, and some type of spicy seared tuna which was to die for. The Hawaiian chicken was delicious too, and plated beautifully. Food was ok mostly bland. My reason for such a low review was the service. It was really slow and we had a party of 5: 2 rolls each, 30 minute wait time . The waitress was very rude after we ordered round 2 of rolls which took another 30 minutes and I specifically asked for no spicy sauce and it came out with spicy sauce and the waitress told us we had to eat it because it was already made. Even though it was messed up. We also told her to stop a few roles because we were waiting so long for round 2 if rolls and said ok and the rolls still showed up 10 minutes later. After arguing with us for 10 minutes over how we needed to eat the rolls that they screwed up on, we asked to speak to the manager. Manager was also rude and kept accusing us of things we didn't do, like "dipping my rolls in a rice bowl" uhm. No. Sauce sure, like the soy sauce that's provided. BEWARE: THEY CHARGE GRATUITY FOR 6 OR MORE BUT IT DOESNT STATE THAT ON ANY OF THE MENUS OR RECEIPTS OR ANYWHERE IN THE RESTAURANT. Never going here again. read more

Three strikes your out!!! Once again I went here and once again I was lied to about the wait and was ignored! We told the hostess that we had a meeting to get to and she stated that we could easily get our order taken and we would be finished within 45 minutes with our meal. The place was not packed. Probably 10 customers total and they were all eating, except one customer who just got their order taken. She seated us and the waiter never came to take our order. Ten minutes went by and no waiter. New customers came in after us, got a seat and got there order taken before us. There was only one sushi chef doing the orders. Again, lots of waitresses walking around but doing really nothing but ignoring us. Atleast, you could teach these waitresses how to make sushi so they could pick up the slack for customers waiting. How hard is it to make a California roll and pour miso soup in a bowl?? Heck, just pour me the flipping miso soup while I am waiting......gees. This place is not even applying the advice customers are giving it on Yelp. They don't appear to care. We walked out and no one tried to stop us, apologize or anything. We went on a Tuesday for lunch, four adults. We waited at least 20 minutes before our sushi arrived. We asked for our soup twice and it only came after the entrees were served. Two entrees came, one missing the rice. After asking twice for the rice and the other two entrees, they came, with the soup about 10 min later. The second two entress were cold, probably because they were sitting with the first two entrees all along. The kitchen and sushi chefs were doing their jobs and the food would have been good if it was not cold. The sushi however was great, the service sucked big time. Our waiter was very cold, seemed like we were in his way, never came back to check if we needed anything and never refilled the tea. He did come back to refill the water as we were paying our check. We went to eat here today. 3 adults, 2 children. We got 2 all you can eats, 1 adult lunch and lunch for the 2 kids. My daughter ordered her own lunch and made the fatal mistake of trying a couple pieces off our "all you can eat" plates. We were charged for 3 "all you can eat" lunches in addition to her lunch. Yes, the rules state no sampling, however, we didn't go there to try and take advantage of their special. She ordered her own lunch. They could have been cool about it and, perhaps, charged her for one roll but even after the waiter asked if they could let it slide, the answer was a firm NO. So, whatever you do, don't sample if you haven't paid for an "all you can eat" plate. They will charge you for it. read more

My husband, father in law and I went here for the first time tonight and I must say it is the best sushi I have had yet...My husband and I had the all you can eat and our top favorite this evening was the Tropical Roll, it was like a sushi sundae!! The restaurant has consistently bad service. The food itself is fairly expensive, which I don't have a problem paying as long as the food, service and ambience are good as well. The food 'appears' to have have slipped in quality recently. The original sushi chefs are gone with a younger chef staff now there The wait staff has always been sub-par. If you eat in, they are slow to attend your needs. I understand that you have to wait if you expect fresh quality sushi and rolls. But 30-45 minutes is what I usually experience. Tables that are sat after me sometimes will get their food first. If we get food to go, they forget to check your order. The last three times we have ordered the Hawaiian Chicken and they have forgotten the steamed rice. . I hope the absent management recognizes this, steps in and acts. It is exciting that Placerville has a growing number of quality eating establishments and American Ichi has been for one for a couple of years. I hope they are here for years to come, but they need to tighten things up so guests continue to patronize their business. read more

Once we arrived, we were seating within 2min of us standing by the door. One of our sodas were flat. It took quite awhile for us to receive service and our food. The sushi was OKAY, there was much less fish inside the roll compared the rice on the outside. However, this is the killer, at the end of our meal the server notifies us that the system that runs the credit cards is not working properly. Thus, she told us to go outside and use the ATM machine down the sidewalk. I asked her why she could not just write down and process my card info later and she said she couldn't because then she would not be able to close out the table... B.S. My boyfriend and I stopped in tonight and two out of our three orders were okay. My sushi roll had a cream sauce on top that seemed spoiled because of the texture so I only ate two bites. Our waitress ignored me when I said I didn't care for my roll and did not checked on us other than dropping off the bill and giving my boyfriend the side eye. American Ichi is amazing! I mostly dine alone during the very early lunch hour, and I only order a Spicy California roll with two sauces, and iced water and lemon to drink... that's it. I have never been treated rudely, and my order is perfect every time...,often the Chef (no matter which one is on duty) will ask me if I want what I always want even before the waitress gets to me. It's always a beautiful plate, and it always tastes amazing. I spend (before tip) a total of 6 bucks and change every time, and I am treated like family. I love this place, all the staff are wonderful, and the food... I love what I order every time!!! I don't eat raw fish, and never have I felt bad about that here. My order is made perfectly, and the chef's often indulge me in light conversation that makes me feel welcome and comfortable. I feel like no matter how little I spend, or what I like and don't like has no presidence here. I'm a valued customer and my order is treated as such. All the Sushi Chef's are incredibly knowledgeable, and are happy to answer questions about the process. They are also very polite to everyone. We got there, decided to sit at the bar, and there was a sopping wet napkin at a place setting that never got cleaned up or moved. We sat down, and enjoyed our sushi, which was promptly and expertly made. We had no problems with that. But, our waitress was very inattentive, and rude when we asked her to take our plates(all you can eat) that had literally stacked up 3 high! We also were asked to see ID by someone who may or may not have worked at the restaurant. A lady took our beer orders, and we never saw her again. We had to ask our sushi chef to get our waitress to come over to bring the check. She was busy watching the other chef make sushi. She even reached over our plates(at the bar, which was near her armpit), to fill up water glasses. I would have tipped her close to nothing, if it weren't for the great service of our sushi chefs who I know would have been stiffed as well. The worst part about all of this, there were never more than 9 other patrons in the restaurant the whole time we were there. She needs to check herself. I don't know if we'll be back with the oddball, inconsistent service we received, which is a shame, as their sushi is good, the price is right, and the portions are amazing.
