Went here after 5:30 pm on Thursday to try using a Groupon we had. The place was basically empty when we arrived. Getting shoe rental and assigned a lane was swift and easy; there weren't any problems when it came to scanning/using our Groupon. We got the deal to bowl for 2 for 2 hours. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We didn't order any food, but we did try some drinks: the Boozy blue Long Island (9/10) and the Strawberry splash margarita (8.5/10). Both were decently good. Bowling was really fun, we def went at a good time early in the evening because closer to when we were on our last round, around 7 pm, the place was packed! Def will be back again soon! Before I begin, let me start off by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone, so with that being said let's do it!!... My wife and were invited out tonight to have a Christmas gathering by her co workers! Just some time to wind down and enjoy one another's company before the holidays got too busy for each of us. We all met inside by the front desk to get our shoes and our lanes to bowl.. one of the workers came by shortly after once we got situated by our bowling lanes, she quickly got our orders ( food and drinks) . They also have a full bar available for the folks who partake in alcoholic beverages like myself!. So if you're in the area and you're looking to have a good time with friends, then give this place a try!. I took off one star because my chicken wasn't edible for whatever reason, I couldn't bite into it for whatever reason ( it makes me wonder, and that is why I don't eat at certain places very often because of their food options! read more

The workers here really need to get their information correct because it is very disappointing not being able to bowl because they tell you the wrong information. I went to go bowling today around 2pm and clearly told the girl at the counter that we had the Summer Bowling Pass and she said that there were no lanes available until after 4pm today. Okay no big deal. So we left. At 5pm before heading back to the bowling alley, I called and asked the girl on the phone if there was a cutoff time for using the summer bowling pass on Saturdays and she said that you can't use it after 6pm. I said "awesome that's no problem at all, we will be there in about 10 minutes. " We show up again and are greeted by the same girl earlier in the day who said no lanes were available until after 4. I pull out our summer passes and she then tells me "oh you can't use these after 4pm." Are you frickin serious?! I told her I called and spoke to someone on the phone and she said it can't be used after 6. She then tells me that the girl I spoke to was probably confused about what I was asking and that's why she told me the wrong time. She said we could bowl but would need to pay. Um no. We have the summer passes for 2 free games. I'm not paying $40 for 2 games for 2 people, that's ridiculous We left pissed off and disappointed. read more

I visited AMF Norfolk Lanes for the first time in almost 15 years this past weekend for a friend's daughter's 4th birthday party. For a Saturday afternoon, it was a lot less busy than I expected but with the pandemic going on, I guess that's a good thing. On the inside, much hasn't really changed since my last visit here. It definitely still has that classic bowling alley look with a couple modern touches. The kids certainly had a lot of fun at the party. It was very clean around tables and the lanes. The party was served cheese and pepperoni pizza. The pizza was very MEH in my opinion. I had 2 slices of the pepperoni and honestly I've had better pizza from Digiorno. I don't mind returning considering my son had such an awesome time. read more

Visited with a friend on a Friday night. They had a special where you could have unlimited bowling starting around 10 pm til close for $17 per person. I can't bowl, but I had lots of fun. The staff was pretty friendly for the most part, but the eating area could stand to be cleaned. The tables were dirty & there were spilled drinks on the floor. It was sticky and pretty gross. So, we tried our best to find somewhere to sit that was halfway decent. We got pizza and wings. The pizza was ok, but the plain wings had a spicy coating fried on them that will set your tongue on fire. Be aware. Our lane scoring system kept messing up, so we bowling 3 times sometimes just for our score to register. We had a pretty good time regardless. Got there for Unlimited bowling on Friday and all lanes were reserved for a bowling tournament. Didn't get a lane until 10pm. Also it was impossible to get a drink because most of the workers were under 21 read more

Reservations were for 8 pm on Sunday, party of 5 and paid over $20 per person in our online reservation--even though when we sat down at the table there was a weekly deals list including Sunday nights at $3.99/game...seems a lil weird but anyway. Friendly front counter person, nice lanes and lots of balls (and I'm not just talking about for bowling). However, not a lot with light weight, though, couldn't find one less than 12 lbs. We entered our names, started our games, and started looking at the menu. Just as we were about to find someone to place an order we hear "The kitchen is now closed" over the loud speaker. Have we been here that long? The reservation is until 10pm and we are on our 3rd frame... ITS 8:22. Okay. People around us are continuing to get pitchers of beer, maybe we can at least get some water or something to drink. I go to the counter to ask for some water, and all I get is a "No ma'am" before the worker turns back around to continue making food. At this point it is 9:15pm. They proceed to make another announcement, "Attention guests, the snack bar and the drink bar are both closed." This place is open until 11 pm and they stop serving even WATER after 8:22pm?! To deny food past a certain point on a Sunday night is one thing, understandable at best not a night ruiner. But to deny a BASIC HUMAN NEED. WATER for F*%# sake! Unbelievable. They fucking suck at answering the phone. I called to asked if their pro shop was open, I was placed on hold (the first time for 5 mins). Called the second and was placed on hold AGAIN for another 5 mins. Tried 3 or 4 times after that, and no one would pick up the phone. I just wanted be transferred to the PRO SHOP. The front desk workers are great! However the people working the food service are absolutely terrible. They don't know what customer service is, do not ask for your lane number, and just expect you to check back in in 10-15 min to see if your food is ready. Common sense would tell a worker to ask for lane numbers and walk the food out to your lane when ready. Or at minimum call your name or lane number so you as the customer is aware that the order is ready for pickup. Bowling is always fun, but poor customer service makes he have a lack of respect for the quality of the employees hired, or the lack of quality training. read more

Playing 3 games with my 2 handicapped children at over $7 a game and over $5 for shoe rental when I was kicked off my last game in 7th frame to make room for Special Olympics Bowling League. Yeah didn't talk to once. Didn't ask if I would be playing anymore games. Didn't let us finish our 4 remaining frames. Would have been done in about 15 minutes. Alley said I could switch lanes and start all over again. But as they cut off game without warning made my Handicapped Autistic children throw fits and cry and scream in meltdowns. So how were they expected to restart their game? But Alley said as I played 6 frames made me pay for whole incomplete game saying I'm walking away from it. I told them I felt like I was being thrown out. Well you're in a lane reserved for Special Olympics. But I didn't pick out lane. No our employee put you in lane by accident. Then it's your responsibility and your fault so therefore I shouldn't be responsible for paying for incomplete services/games. You played more than half so pay up! CROOKS!!! read more

I took one of my brother's turn when he went to the restroom to bowl and one of the staff at the front came up to me and said I had to pay or he was turning the lane off. I told him it wouldn't happen again and I sat down but he still turned the lane off. I made my way to the front and told him i'd sit down, it was only for that one turn. He then was continuing to be rude and kept trying to kick me out, not even listening to what I was telling him. He then told me I had to leave or pay "him". I understood that I was in the wrong and I said I wasn't bowling anymore but he continued to be rude and repeat the same statement. I ended up speaking to someone else and they were able to turn the lane on so everyone could continue to play and I sat down like I said I was. read more

Just found out about this place a couple weeks ago and wow this is one of the old time bowling alleys. They have 60 lanes in here. They have weekly special which I won't type out but you could go to their web page and find out because every day is different. The service is here is nice. They have a membership where you put your number in and you can rack up points but I noticed the register doesn't consistently ask about putting your phone number in so you can rack up points which is not really cool. I mean if you come all the time they should ask you because you're a regular we wanna save up on those time when it's necessary. The food here is always great but last time I ordered they were sold out on food which is hard to believe popular sellers should never sell out on mozzarella sticks. But I hope they fix that because people want to eat at night and not have to be substituting things we don't want. They always have a lot of great music playing too which is nice to heart updated playlist. But would recommend this place to whoever loves to bowl read more

As a bowling alley goes this place is pretty good. Play seems to be well run balls are in good condition shoes look almost new service is great but whatever you do don't eat here. If you're hungry go eat somewhere else then come here. The food was cold and not very tasty our nephew got home afterwords and had to throw up take a look at the picture of the hotdogs that were advertised versus what I got. So it's very hard for me to write this place has a bowling alley great as a restaurant one of the worst. read more

First let me say bowling is a dying sport/pastime. I say that bitterly because I love bowling and I come from a family of bowlers. It is a real shame that this is the ONLY bowling alley in Norfolk - when not even 10 years ago there were at least 3. Not to mention the price of bowling is astronomical - no one can afford to bowl in a recession. As far as this location - the place is old and smelly - but that is what bowling alleys are all about. Some of my best childhood memories are in dumpy bowling alleys. This one in particular is very dear to my heart because I fondly remember going with my dad to his league and then grabbing dinner at Azalea Inn afterwards. It scares me that you see very little bowling alleys around and I hope that this one does not disappear. With all that mushy stuff being said - a remodel is crucial to this place's survival. I was actually there today and the bathroom had been remodeled. I got excited because I think I know what's coming next and I desperately hope that a full remodel is coming! Not only would it breathe some life into this alley, but it would give the bowlers of Norfolk something to be really proud of! I really love this place for many different reasons - mostly for the sentimental ones. read more

I stopped in here recently for a birthday party for one of my friends kids. I can't tell you the last time I was in a bowling alley but everyone had a good time. The place was clean, the lanes were modern with digital score boards that did all the work for you, and the food was decent. Excellent bowling alley! I got a groupon for AMF bowling and went to the one nearest me. I loved it. Everything went smoothly. Staff was nice and helped us when we didnt know what the heck to do on how to set it up or get rid of our ugly yellow screen. Me and my friend had a great time embarrassing ourselves because we were so bad. The food was also good! Lots of awesome choices. We will definitely be coming back to bowl here more! Seriously the best place I've been bowling ever. Such a clean facility! It wasn't ghetto either. We went on a Saturday night and it was "extreme" bowling. They are open late until 1 am. 22 dollars per person but totally worth it. I think the guy said 2 dollar bowling on Tuesdays... The bathrooms are really clean as well. I wish more bowling alleys were more like this one. Up to date and have a good selection on drinks. They have angry orchards on tap and others. I believe they have a full bar too. We had a good time, however service was slow , did 2 hours unlimited bowling and wasted 30 mins waiting for them to get us balls, table still had prev customers trash and they cleaned it off but didn't wipe it down which is concerning during these times, they also didn't wipe down the balls, wound up sanitizing they table myself. Had to flag down waitress every time we needed her. Went to step outside with my kid and waitress shouted at us asking if I was going to pay first, even though I left my belongings and wasn't done, when I told her I was stepping out for a minute she said "are you sure?" And I had to show her the Ronald McDonald shoes on my feet as proof I wasn't going anywhere. I mean who wants to trade vans for bowling shoes? The black lights and strobes could use a serious upgrade, wasn't the experience we were hoping for. read more

Don't listen to the tall guy with the pony tail. He told me $4 per shoe rental, $4 per person for the lane. It was 3 of us, so $24 to bowl. Great! Play as much you want. That play as much as you want aren't free games. They charge $4 per person per game. So we bowled 5 games, left that damn place with a $60 tab! I would not have spent $60 bowling, he said "bowl as much as you want!" So just make sure you get the details before you start bowling. read more

The bowling alley was clean when we went on MLK Day - A Monday. However, the staff was NOT friendly and they crammed all of us in one small area of this large bowling alley. We had drama queens on one side of us and couple who did not know Bowling etiquette on the other side. The $17 for 2 hours with shoes per person is a decent deal but make sure you want to do this. Had three people bowl 2 complete games (6 games). Then we started a third game, and five frames through the lane froze up. We tried calling for help and got a response, but no one ever came (10 min at least). We were kinda fed up so we decided to leave. Upon checking out they insisted on charging all three of us full price for the last game, despite us having no opportunity to finish, and it being their fault. They justified it by saying you pay for each individual frame, so they were willing to knock off one games price. My question is who the hell wants to bowl half a game? All they had to do was come fix it... not our fault they couldn't respond to our request in a timely manner. read more

I wished this place was similar to the location in Chesapeake. This one gets crowded real quick, and it just feels like there is too many people in here at times. This place seems a bit pricier than the Chesapeake location, the games were limited. So if you're waiting for a lane, you're pretty much bored out of your mind, unless you try to make lane reservations. There are plenty of people who go to this location, so parking is always crowded. read more

These are amongst the worst lanes I have been to. The pinsetters always drop pins too early forcing us to reset the pins which eventually leads them to not working altogether. One time my friends and I went back and forth almost 3 times with the person running the counter. We wasted over 30 minutes waiting for the lanes to start working again. She only gave us 20 minutes for the technical difficulties. I will not be back, although I heard that the pro shop here is amazing. read more

This is an amazing bowling alley for families of special needs kids of all ages! Extremely accommodating and genuinely kind and engaging with my daughter. We go several times a week lately. If you go, ask for the special needs rate and keep in mind that Saturdays there are no open lanes after 4pm due to leagues. Otherwise, you are good to bowl! read more

Great place to bowl for the casual bowler or the more professional-minded types. The building itself has been around for quite some time and shows a bit of age but nothing to distract from having a great time. The space is huge so it can accomodate quite a few bowlers all at once. Lanes are kept oiled on a regular basis (there was a robotic machine doing lane maintenance when we were there.) The staff was friendly and courteous and the Pro Shop, while small, is adequate and the guy running it was friendly and knowledgable. Snack Bar was clean, service was prompt and the food, while not at restaurant level, was above par and tasty. Game rooms are available and have adequate space. Some improvements I think would help bring in more folks would include an automated bumper-rail system (you have to have them either up or down for all players the entire time), and a free Wi-Fi set up as just about everyone now-a-days has an IPAD/POD or smart phone of some sort. The ability to stay connected or even use a bowling app while in the building would be a great way to stay current. read more

Very welcoming. The staff are incredibly sweet and nice. The facility is nice and clean. The food is alright lol. I mean I'm from Chicago so I know good food but as for Virginia, it's good lol. I love how so many people come here and you can just totally see how this place has become a huge part of their lives. I met my boyfriend of 2 years here. So again very homie haha.
