Bartender was super unenthusiastic and was mostly concerned about happy hour ending in 15 minutes and not taking drinks outside. The lightning was weird too. You know when you're at a dance club and at the end of the night they turn on the bright lights to clear everyone out? That was it, that lighting, ya know? I thought the place was lame. Was accused of espionage by my suspicious booth neighbors due to my single company but that only delighted me. This place used to be the hangout spot, not sure what happened... I won't be coming back here though. Unless there's some kind of amazing event or DJ but for any regular weekend I certainly won't be here. Their drinks are not tasty, I tried their Paloma and it was awful, I try their margarita that was also awful it tasted so cheap, thought I would grab a beer only to find out they don't carry mango cart anymore like they used to what the hell? They also don't carry Stella what the hell? All around it was just not vibing. And whatever DJs they have here have been pretty whack the last DJ I saw was this recent Saturday, October 15 & he was super whack. Stick to your go to drink instead of trying their signature cocktails--they've changed from years past and just don't hit the mark. Cute bar and nice staff but now it's way too bright in there! Such a great little local hot spot. We came here with a couple local folks. What an amazing spot to hang out with throw back ambiance and great tasting drinks. The staff are right there to offer drinks, but leave you alone to have good conversations. We had a great crescent booth which just added to the charm of this tuck away bar. They have great craft beer selections, along with great inspired cocktails. We will definitely be back to this location the next time we come back to Palm Springs. read more

Speaking as a guest staying at the Ace Hotel, this place was a ton of fun and a good time. However, I don't know if I would go out of my way for this bar if I weren't staying just a few feet away. I came here with a group on a crowded Saturday night and the best part was seeing the DJ playing some vinyl records. The music was right in my alley, complete with disco, 80's hair metal, and some other funk that got people moving. Fit right in with that desert, "stuck in a different time period" feel of Palm Springs. Definitely fun to people watch! That being said, the service wasn't that great and the drinks weren't particularly special. For the atmosphere and a quick drink though, it might be worth stopping by. read more

And one thing we all noticed: Full of weird people There's no ventilation Smells like fart Let's just say there were a lot of weird hippie people or people on drugs at the Ace hotel and ventured their way into the bar. It was quite packed on Friday and Saturday. They had a band play and took up half the space. Place was extremely crowded/stuffy with bad ventilation and smelled like someone farted a lot. Linda Bingo! Yeah that's right...Monday night bingo with Linda. She was amazingly funny and entertaining. She hosts free bingo night on Mondays at the Amigo Room and the prizes were things such as koozies, boxed wine, champagne, chips, and pies. What fun! Waiters and bartenders were super nice. They have a unique bar menu, but we were so focused on bingo, we stuck with the basics...fries and bean dip, both of which were really delicious. They have a few beers on tap and a few more bottled varieties. Dive bar diner in the desert. It's decor reminds me of El Dorado in SD. Earlier this month, I spent the weekend with girlfriends at The Ace Hotel. We economized by doing a lot of our drinking in the room, but we stopped by the bar on our way out our second night. We had one round of cocktails and one round of tequila shots before we got our cab. I liked the bar's dark, intimate atmosphere, its cozy lighting and comfortable booths. It was small and easy to access, right by the lobby, and I can imagine stopping by for a drink any time of day. It wasn't too busy on a Saturday night, and the bartender was nice. I wasn't quite sold, though, on any of the drinks. I went straight for the Figa, a cocktail of fig-infused vodka with Earl Grey tea, orange juice, and muddled orange and fig. It was okay, but not as good as it sounded. The drink was very sweet, like liquid Fig Newton, without much balance. It was also garnished with a couple dried figs, which was a good idea until the figs got hard and bitter and inedible. The Blood Orange Caipirinha was on the other side of the spectrum. It was pretty decent, cachaca mixed with blood orange and lime, but it was very strong. Don't get it if you don't like the taste of cachaca. The best of our drinks was the Cool Hand Luke. This had gin and St. Germaine elderflower liqueur with muddled mint and cucumber and a splash of soda. It was cool indeed, smooth and refreshing, made like the $10 cocktail it was. On the whole the drinks were unimpressive, and to underline this, our round of shots came out very lukewarm. They were big shots, which was nice, but drinking room temperature tequila is a little like shaving with a rusty dull blade. Just, why? Anyway, it was still a fun place with pleasant atmosphere, and it was a worthwhile stepping stone between dinner and Zelda's. If you're staying at The Ace, you might as well check it out. read more

Drinks were not good, when you went to the bar to order drinks they were quick to attend to you, but def needs help in making better drinks. When my friend told me that we were heading for drink at the Ace Hotel, the amount of prompting she gave me about how hipster this location was not NEARLY enough. Off the charts! As someone who is not into crowds, and prefers my bar scene to quiet and conversational, I am really glad that my first experience at the Amigo Room was in the dead of a SoCal winter. Even for a random Saturday in January, the bar was pretty full with another 20 or so people sitting outside, crowded around heaters. In the summer, I can only imagine what the bar looks like (and it terrifies me). I agree with Glen N. There definitely was a sewer-y smell here, like an overly dank basement. Since I paid a hefiter price for a well drink and a beer, I would like my drinking experience to not be marred by the smell of old pool. We arrived here earlier, around 8:30, but before we had officially left around 10, the people started streaming in. If there is an event at the hotel, the crowds usually end up here and fast. I enjoy the hipster ambiance of antlers, old lamps, weird statues, and "mixology" just as much as the average Angeleno. But this was not a place that i would come back to. I know that Palm Springs can be a haven for the young and carefree to escape Los Angeles for a weekend, but I personally subscribe to the lifestyle of Palm Springs retirees: quiet, quant, and preferably pool side. I wanted to really like this place. Dark, dungeony, basement like, the DJ spun some good soul, RnB, lounge house, but the drinks and appetizers killed it bad. The raw? Drinks sucked royally. Either the recipes are whack or the bartenders need to return to school. Chips (not complimentary), tacos (one bite wonders with hardly any filling), salsa and ceviche (in tiny tins the size of hot sauce you'd get from a hole in the wall 24hr Mexican food restaurant) were only tolerable. Maybe... just maybe, on a different night with different bartenders and only drinking bottled beer it would be better. But that kinda defeats the purpose of the place having a happy hour with food and their own mixed drink recipes. read more

Although I Love the Ace hotel, I can't say the same about it's bar. Its super small which is fine but even the energy of it is really weird. We came 2 different nights and didn't really care much for it either night. One night had an awful Dj that played "experimental" music, whatever the hell that is, and the other night was some stand up comedy which was only funny to the comedians friends. If your staying at the hotel I guess it's a place to grab a drink but recommend moving elsewhere after. Coming here for a night out wouldn't be a good idea. read more

This is a cool little spot. Second trip to the Ace and a friend recommended we try this bar. It was empty! I kid you not! But they insisted that it's a hopping spot every night, especially during karaoke. I trust them and didn't mind that it was empty when I came. I really just wanted a beer and to catch up with my friend. I will have to say that I can't wait to come back to visit and see what this place is like at night. Stopped by the Amigo Room after a visit to Joshua Tree in the middle of the day on a Monday. It had a great vibe, a friendly mixologist, and the cocktail menu was full of fun and innovative cocktails, and each one that we tried was delicious. We also ordered the baked date appetizer to nibble on, and it was pretty good. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in PS, and recommend to others passing through. read more

As CV bars go, they have ingredients other bars don't have. They have a hipper look than most bars. But it's still a hotel bar--which is great on Trivia Night. Vacationers like to drink, so if you stay (relatively) sober you can win a hefty bar tab on Monday nights! Staff are friendly some days, indifferent on others. Some nights everyone gets their drinks served in plastic cups (perhaps they don't want glass by the pool if we decide to go outside); other nights my companion and I have been the only ones drinking out of plastic cups. Those other nights are frustrating, especially when we see young folks in swim trunks drinking beer in a pint glass while the bf drinks his fancy whiskey from a plastic cup. The events they host can be pretty cool. The aforementioned Trivia Night with Bella de Ball is a blast. Coachella-related events sound fun but get a little too crowded and too cool for me. DJ nights skew young, but there are always a few older hotel guests who stop in to keep the room interesting (and make me feel less self-conscious). read more

A solidly hip bar in the Ace Hotel. We went during the end of modernism week and the small indoor room was filled. Loved that they had live music, and the singer was really great -- not too loud, super talented, actually contributed to the experience rather than detracting. The only thing is that she was unfortunately shoved into a corner. Spacing is limited here, but I wish they could have given her more room, poor thing. If it's too crowded inside, venture outside and enjoy your drink by the pool -- there's plenty of bench seating and heaters. The cocktail menu is interesting, but I found the service bizarrely cold. It didn't seem like they were very busy (most clientele seemed to already have their drinks and were chatting), but it was a little hard to get someone's attention and they seemed pretty dismissive. Checked out Amigo Room again last night and it was a much better experience! They had a DJ spinning disco mixes throughout the night which I enjoyed! They had tables in the middle of the bar, but moved them out as more people started to arrive, and as more people started to dance lol. We had an awesome bartender for the night, which was Daved, who I happened to know! He mixed the drinks very well, and I would highly suggest ordering The Gold Digger. That's his own concoction, and it's actually very good. I was eyeing that drink on the menu, but since I saw Scotch..I avoided it. Daved ended up making it, which I'm glad he did! Probably the best drink I had (out of 3). Hopefully whenever you decide to check out Amigo Room..you'll have Daved as your bartender. If you go at night, I would suggest going a bit earlier to get some seats. Not the biggest bar in the world. read more

The Glass Menagerie. We headed into this darken cavern of a bar after having dinner next door at King's Highway. It was Karaoke night, and things were about to get crazy up in here. Looking around at the clientele, it was like the island of misfit toys. I felt at home immediately. We snagged a corner table, stage left, as others exited, and ordered drinks. My friends put in their song requests. The drinks were perfectly made with a heavy hand. The crowd was super fun and energetic. We felt comfortable enough to bring out our traveling dolls, and people even sang to them! I loved this place. We ordered a second round and enjoyed singing and performances. At one point I tried balancing my doll on a pint of beer, and all went south. Beer everywhere!!! As the beer dripped off the end of the table, another customer at the table next to us threw a pile of his napkins at us. We'd already used up the ones at our table. The DJ refused to try to help, and spent all her time playing with her glass menagerie and her old phonograph records. read more

Not quite what I was expecting after being to the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. The Palm Springs version is a hipster-macrame-stuffed dead animal mashup. As nightlife options were fairly limited, I went here both Friday and Saturday and had varying experiences. Friday night was kind of quiet and we weren't feeling the random music so we grabbed a drink (yummy guava concoction) and left. In contrast, Saturday was packed and had great danceable music. The crowd was pretty eclectic (locals, a wedding party, and random tourists) and provided fun people watching. There was a group (I think inspired by recreational drugs) doing wild interpretive dance type movements and a freaky Malibu Barbie getting down and dirty on the dance floor. I definitely was entertained, but if I had more options, this would not make my list of top places to hang out. read more
