Avocado and light at the same time. they don't try to dilute it with onions and water and other stuff, they just . . . toss in a bit of this and that so the avo achieves its natural brilliance. Went to the 3 dollar movies cross the street so we decided to try this place out for dinner. it was great the usual Mexican place with combo choices that come with rice and beans. I had in cheese enchilada and chili relleno the enchilada was basic but I really enjoyed the chili relleno I have tried many chili relleno as this is my go to dish at any Mexican spot but this was one of the best chili relleno that I have tried also had a strawberry Margarita it was good a little strong but I like my drinks strong so I didn't mind all and all a good place to have dinner read more

My favorite hole in the wall Mexican place!! The staff is so awesome and friendly, and their margaritas are the best. I love sitting in the cantina part more than the main area. The one thing I think they could improve is their guacamole (by making it table side or at least to-order). Their jalapeño margaritas are especially killer, and, depending on who the bartender is that night or maybe how he's feeling lol, sometimes insanely spicy. read more

Where do I start? Not only is the food absolutely delicious, but the customer service from Patrick and his staff is something I don't experience much any more. So we went to Amigos, last Friday. It was our first time at this place. It is hard enough to find parking in Pasadena, and the parking lot is very small. So give yourself time to find parking, in case you have to walk a few blocks. The place is small inside and in need of a remodel to help utilize their space properly. Now to the food. I had the steak Picado and my husband has the Garlic butter shrimp. It was really good. However the drinks well are horrible. Even though everyone orders the margarita pitchers, we don't understand. Because they are pure tequila and little mix. People are leaving this place drunk..... so if you are looking for a place that has good atmosphere, drinks, and food. This is not the place to go. If you want to have a good meal out, and then home. This is a good place. read more

I have ordered from Amigo's via delivery prior and it was quite good. I was craving Chile Colorado but didn't want to spend the hiked up menu prices for delivery so I went directly to the restaurant. Though parking was difficult, the restaurant was quite nice. There were only two tables occupied - one a party of six perhaps and myself. The service was terrible. The Margarita was worse and the food was unbearable. I positioned the Margarita to be in reach of the server and she didn't bother to suggest to make it better, nor offer me something else to drink. She didn't even bring me the glass of water I had asked for. The Chile Colorado arrived. It resembled the food I feed my red tabby. The chile, the beans were run together, I didn't bother with the rice. Mexican food entrees with refried beans and rice are as creative as spaghetti and meatballs or a bologna sandwich. Amigo's is like the Cheers of Mexican cantinas. It's a neighborhood joint with a strong local vibe. You don't go out of your way to come here unless you're in the area. That being said, I finally made a venture here last night while sober. My past experiences have been in a desperate search for food so that I could get back to equilibrium. Open until midnight, it's a good option for late night eats, especially for sit down restaurants in this area, where most of the open eateries past 10 pm are fast food. The food is your average Mexican fair. Fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, chimichangas, etc. You name it, it's there. The portions are generous and large enough to feed two. The margaritas take generous to a whole other level. They don't mess around with these drinks, and pours are heavy handed enough to do the job after just a few. read more

Alright, I used to come here all the time, years ago, for a few drinks after work. As others have said, drinks are strong. I wasn't into the food back then, but I've been here now 3 times in the last 2 months, and the food has improved. Except these happened the last 3 times: 1) We ordered take out, lunch chicken fajita salads, which are pretty good, except they charged us for chicken fajita's, which is a lot more expensive. We figured it was a simple misunderstanding, had them correct it and paid the right price. 2) A group of us went here after the CD Swap, as it's the only Mexican kitchen open until Midnight in Pasadena. Our bill came out to $100 for 4 people, except the bill was really only $70, with an extra $30 out of no where. We pointed it out, was corrected, not a problem. 3) I just came back from picking up enchiladas (which are very good) and I noticed it was cheese enchilada $5 + 2 chicken enchilada $10 = $22 after taxes. Huh? Yup, an extra $5 in the tab. 3 different times, different staff people, each had extra money added on to the bill. Either the entire staff are extremely poor at math, or they are upset at "the man" and are trying to recoup, or are just dirty people. I'm leaning towards dirty since I remember the stuff that used to go on here when I went there before - and you don't want to know. So, good food, but as soon as that bill comes, examine it and make sure you're charged for the RIGHT meal and make sure they don't throw in an extra $30 charge, which can be hard late night after drinking those strong drinks! Oh, and their bar totally over-serves people - which is illegal. Cool for those being over-served though - bad for the people who have to deal with them. read more

I mean, you could go to Taco Bell and save yourself a $1.50, but then you'll have to explain to the parentals how you've lowered the family gene pool. So please, splurge a little and go get that $9.75 Carne Asada burrito... or better yet, here's a secret: get the Chimichanga - it's where the grown-ups play. Lastly, if possible, sit on the bar side. Bring a couple bucks for the jukebox. What? Huh?! You ask why can't they play free music for their esteemed guests?.... because a real dive would never offer such convenience. That's porque. A small, cozy, sit-down, family style restaurant with attached bar. The service is fast, friendly, and attentive. Like many others have mentioned, the margaritas kick ass. Unlike some others, I think the food is pretty decent, generally. Of course, I'm a gringo, and I enjoy Americanized Mexican food, which is mostly what they serve here. I don't have any problems with it whatsoever. Besides, after a couple of power-packed margaritas, who really cares anyway? I some how ended up here, SUPER hungry, on a Sunday night. It was completely empty, and even with less than 4 other people dining here, the service was terrible. I had to get up several times to get help from our server. Thankfully eating at Amigo's was still a decent overall experience because I liked the food. I would classify what I ate at Amigo's as above average Mexican food. The best part about my meal was the portion size I ordered the macho chimichanga, which was a name that accurately described what I was served. It was humongous and indeed macho looking. It was the biggest chimichanga I can remember ever having, and had shredded beef, rice, and cheese inside. Additionally it came with sides of rice and beans too. It was very satisfying and way more than I could eat, even though I was famished. I liked everything I ate at Amigo's including the chips and salsa that was served before we ordered. Amigo's is not a place I would go out of my way to have, but if I'm in the area I would definitely eat here again. This is probably the worst Mexican food I've had at a restaurant. I love Mexican food, and I was hoping Amigos would replace the void after La Fiesta Grande closed down. Unfortunately, the food we ordered was greasy, overcooked and flavorless. I ordered the shrimp fajitas and my boyfriend ordered a vegetarian burrito. We both felt sick afterwards and regretted coming here. The shrimp tasted seriously funky; my boyfriend tried some of it, so I blame the shrimp. The refried beans and rice were salty and flavorless - I'm not sure how you can ruin rice and beans, but they did. Also, the service was slow, and we were mostly ignored. I give them 2 stars though because the atmosphere and lighting was great. Very cozy and relaxing. If only the food tasted good!! read more

This is, unfortunately, my neighborhood bar. If not for that tragic fact, and the fact that sometimes cute boys go here, I doubt I would have ever set foot inside this place. The margaritas, which for some reason everyone raves about, are strictly pre-mixed and poured into the glass from a large plastic jug. They are strong though. Limit yourself to two or expect a DUI. On the plus side, there are a lot of regulars who are pretty welcoming. So going solo doesn't mean you will lack for conversation. As for the food, it's decent, but nothing to write home about. Been coming here for years. Top dishes I love: -Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (Garlic Shrimp): chunks of garlic on seasoned shrimp, rice and beans, slices of tomato and avocado. Your choice of flour or corn tortillas (for this dish, I get flour. Don't hate.) -Camarones a la Diabla. Can you tell I'm a shrimp lover? Some tips: -Check out the specials on the chalkboard outside the entrance to the dining area before you order. Missed it? Don't worry it's on an even bigger chalkboard right in front of you when you're waiting to be seated. -Try the Jamaica (Hibiscus) drink. -Ask for Habanero salsa (more flavorful and more hot than the house salsa). -If there's no parking in the back, park in the lot across the street (the eBay store, Firestone, a windows and doors place) they don't ticket, I promise. -Get wasted off the Margaritas! The BF and I always compare other place's Margaritas to see if they are up to par with Amigo's. Usually they aren't. -Laugh at the drunk people staggering their way to the bathroom in the back. I was a bit of a regular coming here for lunch and drinks with my girlfriends and had even introduced this place to my co-workers. I'm an honest person so this is why this upsets me and that it's my race of people who act this way disgusts me! I left my designer glasses in the case yesterday at lunch in a booth in the bar, went back in less than 10 minutes and they said they didn't have them! So "F" this place! We drove by this restaurant on Colorado Blvd. many a time, not even noticing it. It is very unassuming from the outside and easy to miss. Funny how those are usually the BEST places, isn't it? After a recommendation from my wife's co-worker, we wandered into Amigos one Friday night and have have been regular customers ever since. Amigos does not score points for decor or fancy digs, but man do they have great food and margaritas. Not once have we tried something that we did not like and we've had super fast and friendly service each time we've gone. Some of our favorites include the carnitas tacos/plate, chicken tacos, arroz con pollo, and guacamole. Ordered a small fiesta platter. Boy, I should have stuck with the chips. This has got to be the worst appetizer I've ever ordered at a Mexican restaurant. The beans on the nachos were bland and the taquitos tasted like I was chewing on cardboard. They were so dry that they were literally breaking apart like a Twix bar. I wasn't exactly expecting moms authentic cooking. I also realize this stuff is not made to order, but I have never tasted such a horrible item at a restaurant in my life. I all but left the appetizer untouched with the few bites I took. I felt like Gordon Ramsey in a Kitchen Nightmare episode. Short of that, if you're looking for some drinks after work, not necessarily a bad place as long as you stay on your bartender. Had a similar experience last year, but only had the chips and salsa. Me and my boyfriend come here regularly and always get the margaritas. Tony is awesome service-wise and we've known him the past couple years. Even after all this time coming to amigos and tipping well, the bartender will straight up ignore you if you're not in his group of regulars. Just stood and waited for a seat at the bar for 35 minutes, meanwhile he gave any open seat to other people who came after us and acted like we weren't waiting right in front of him.
