Got the chance to celebrate my birthday with a couple of girlfriends at Ammatoli and it was such a great experience. The space is cozy and beautifully designed. It feels intimate even with other tables nearby. What we ordered: Family Platter - We chose 2 chicken, 2 ribeye, 1 gyro and 1 salmon for our proteins with hummus, pickles and olives on the side, plus tabbouleh for our salad. It also came with rice pilaf. I loved that it included grilled veggies (tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and jalapeño) along with a variety of delicious sauces. Everything was beautifully presented and the food tasted fresh and flavorful. The pita comes straight from the oven which makes such a difference. They also offer cucumbers and carrots if you prefer or if you're gluten-free. Drinks - My friends had the rosé and white wine and I ordered the mint lemonade. Everything was crisp and refreshing. Dessert - We were so full but still shared a pistachio baklava with ice cream and Turkish coffee with cardamom. It was the perfect way to end the meal. The baklava was a little different than what I'm used to. It didn't have the usual layered structure, just phyllo on the top and bottom so it fell apart a bit when we bit into it. Overall, no complaints. The food was amazing, the service was top-notch and I can't wait to come back and try their brunch. read more

We had a party of 5 for a 40th birthday dinner and everything was phenomenal. We were walking around the Promenade and were indecisive of a nice sit down restaurant. So glad we settled on Ammatoli. We ordered the family meal, and every dish was fresh and flavorful. It was great because we got to try a lot of different meats. I wouldn't say the family meal is enough for a famished party of 5; just enough room for dessert. Our server Cameron provided excellent service and kept everything running smoothly. We recently dined at Ammatoli for the second time and to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. I appreciated the special touch of a written birthday card too at our table. Reservations were easy and the parking structure nearby is convenient. The interior is beautifully decorated. Frances took wonderful care of us throughout the evening and was so helpful in suggestions for our dinner. There was a 90minute dining time limit which made me think this was why nearly all the food came out at once-- challenging for a small table for four who were sharing the meal, but we made due and were well under that time limit. I was a walk in so the waitlist took about 15 minutes. Not bad. The inside is really nice. I love the decor. Food Batata Harra - this was good. It had a sour spicy taste. I liked it. Roasted Beets Labneh - This was my first time having this and I liked it. Pita Bread - came out fresh from the oven. Beef Shawarma - the beef was dry. So I absolutely love coming here, but in my visit today I was a little disgusted by the water. I noticed it had a little bit of a black smudge and after wiping with a napkin realized it was grime on the lip of the water bottle. This is a nice restaurant so I find it really breaks my experience. I think the food and service is fantastic. When it's slower you may have to specify to bring your appetizers prior to food. Though do note that hummus is an extra $14. The Mini Beef Shawarma Wraps were deceiving... because they weren't as mini as I thought! Fairly substantial portions. Comes with tahini sauce on the side. I ordered the Levantine Toast, which is a healthy combination of avocado, labneh, cherry tomatoes, radish, pomegranate seeds, zaatar, with extra virgin olive oil drizzled on top, all on a piece of sourdough. I have only vowels to say how much I loved the food! Wow! First, we were greeted by the manager who helped explain the menu, and the specials, and he also ended up making our drinks at the bar. Shame on me for not having reviewed sooner! Ammatoli has been my favorite Eastern Mediterranean restaurant since it opened and I always recommend others to go. Ornate hanging lamps, high ceilings, arches and greenery make for an airy, exotic, yet modern interior. The outdoor area seats about 8 small parties and is dog friendly. Beer and wine only, along with nonalcoholic beverages, but they carry an awesome selection of Lebanese, French and Italian wine. Their warm, soft, puffed pitas are a must with a few mezzas. My favorites are the spicy and beet hummus, mutabbal (roasted eggplant spread) and stuffed grape leaves. Most of the mezzas are vegetarian, rich in flavor and perfect for sharing. My go-to entree is the Spicy Lemon Garlic Chicken ($32). The crispy skin on the half rotisserie is already bursting with zest but pouring the spicy garlic lemon sauce over the vermicelli rice and chicken sends me every time. The creamy garlic sauce is the cherry on top. During my last visit, I tried the Ouzi Lamb Chops and a new dish, Shishbarak. The lamb was perfectly cooked medium rare with light seasoning, aromatic basmati rice, green peas, carrots, toasted nuts, cucumber and yogurt salad. The Shishbarak was a fusion take on dumplings filled with ground beef and lamb, creamy yogurt sauce, Aleppo pepper and pine nuts. Elevated, yet comforting and delicious. In fact, everything I've had here has been wholesome and delicious, reminding me of my friend's mom's cooking. Each dish is made fresh, in house and with love. Chef Dima deserves her flowers, being recognized by the James Beard Foundation, Eater LA and LA Times' best restaurants over the years. Service has consistently been warm, hospitable and quick. I have been impressed by the food and beverage quality every time I go to Ammatoli on East 3rd Street. It is by far my favorite restaurant in Long Beach, and everyone I have gone with loves it. I recommend making a reservation in advance on OpenTable as they do get quite busy, but ensure your full party can commit as they do charge per person for any last-minute cancellations. For parking, I recommend the structures just up the street. A must-order is the mint lemonade ($6). It is the best balance of flavors, it isn't too sweet, and they use fresh mint. Although it doesn't come with free refills, we usually buy an extra lemonade to-go as well. Our server Cameron G was very thorough with checking back with the kitchen on items regarding food allergies, and he always made sure we had enough hot water and regular water. It's a great place for groups if you make a reservation in advance because they have something everyone will love, and a lot of the dishes are meant for sharing. I love both the lamb kebab mashawi ($28) and the ammatoli chicken shawarma ($26). It doesn't automatically come with rice, but you can add a side of Vermicelli Rice for the table for $80. Came to Ammatoli on a glorious day to experience a wonderful Sunday Brunch with friends...and did not disappoint! My friends and I made necessary reservations and were seated in the heart of the indoor dining area, where the place was packed with customers experiencing all there was to offer. Our server, Ava, was wonderfully polite and truly accommodating to our group. We started with the three-way Mezza Plate, which included Beet Hummus (outstanding!), 4-pieces of the Grape Leaves, and Muhamara, all paired with wonderfully fresh homemade pita bread. We also added some Jibneh Manoushe rich cheese to aid with mass amounts of bread dipping and a bottle of M'Ama Mango bubbly, which was delicately sweet and delicious. Our entrees included Levantine Chilaquiles, the Mixed Mashawi Kebob Skewers (Ribeye Steak and Lamb, both cooked to a perfect Medium Rare), Fattet Jaj, and Hola Beef Shawarma Wrap. The Chilaquiles were outstanding! A great spin on the classic Mexican breakfast dish with a Mediterranean kick. The sunny side up eggs were divine, along with the wonderfully balanced green tomatillo and sumac flavor combination. The Fattet Jaj is as traditional as you can get, but the flavor of the chicken mixed with the pomegranate seeds, toasted almonds, and garlic yogurt sauce was incredible. The Hola Shawarma Wrap was incredibly large and delicious! Definitely could be shared by two people as a main entree. After all the entrees were devoured, including taking some leftovers home, the four of us shared a Pistachio Baklawa with a wonderfully sweet orange blossom syrup and vanilla ice cream to cleanse our palate. Ammatoli is an outstanding restaurant...period. Definitely one of the top places to dine for Mediterranean Food in Long Beach, and perhaps, Southern California. It pairs perfectly with the mutaabal which reminds me of baba ganoush, also an eggplant based dip. The distinct difference I noticed that makes it amazing here is how toasty the mutaabal is, with every bite leaving you wanting more, and the pomegranate seeds are not just great to add color, but also give a sweet and crunchiness to the mutaabal. Next the ammatoli moussaka, DELICIOUS! Similarly to a lasagna, but lighter on the stomach and, might I add, tastier! It was also rich in flavor and is made up of potatoes, beef, eggplant, etc. paired with the habanero sauce, it added a nice light kick! Heydi at first was great for the kids but then she got super busy and each time she came by, she scurried away before we could ask for something else. She was a bit abrasive too at different points, and then tried to make up for it later by asking us questions about us at the very end. This place also has the feeling of nickel and diming customers. We asked for a little extra olive oil and apparently that is 4 dollars (didn't know until we got the bill). Heydi offered refills (which is 12 dollars for the mint lemonade, but didn't know it at the time). There is a sign that tells you that they can kick you out after an hour and a half or 2, depending on your party size. It just doesn't set a great tone. We got the fava bean mezza and wish they told us that it was mashed fava beans. Not my favorite as it tasted like refried beans. Heydi raved about the beet hummus but it wasn't that great. Regular hummus is so much better. Avocado salad was pretty good - would get that again. Ice cream was a hit with the kids. Located in Downtown Long Beach, it has the perfect neighborhood-restaurant feel while still feeling like a destination spot. Parking can be found on the street or in nearby public parking lots, which makes it fairly manageable for a busy area. The ambiance is beautifully done. It is warm, cozy, and inviting with an elevated yet comfortable vibe. It feels intimate without being stuffy, and you can tell a lot of care went into the design and overall atmosphere. The food was outstanding. We ordered the Palestinian Msakhan which was incredibly tender, flavorful, and comforting, with perfectly seasoned chicken and a richness that really stood out. I loved dipping the taboun bread with the chicken in the cucumber and yogurt salad. I even had leftovers (it was a HUGE portion for 1 person) that tasted just as great the next day. This dish could've even been shared with another person. We also ordered the Shishbarak which was cooked beautifully. The dumplings were nice and pillowy, swimming in a delicious and tangy yogurt sauce. We had also ordered the Housemade pita, Hummus, and the Spicy hummus as well as the Falafel (which I did not take pictures of). The Falafel was probably one of the best Falafels that I have tasted. It was fresh and moist with a nice crispy texture on the outside, with not one bit of dryness. The hummus was also good, but the Falafel definitely stood out. For dessert we had the Osmalieh Ice Cream which was also delicious. I loved the chewy texture of the dates at the bottom of the ice cream and the shredded kataifi on the top. It was surprisingly not too sweet, which I liked. The service was also great. We had a large party and our orders were taken quickly and our food brought out just as quick. Our waters were continuously being refilled, and we didn't have to ask for anything. The server knew immediately to bring to-go boxes or to provide a new spoon so I could put my leftovers in a box. Definitely great service! One thing to note: Ammatoli does not have a full bar, but they offer a solid selection of wine and beer, which pairs nicely with the menu. Also, I think it's kind of odd that the restaurant closes at 7pm on certain days, but you can still make reservations after the closing time and the last call is at 7:30pm. Overall, Ammatoli delivers exceptional food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a memorable dining experience. It's ok. It's so so overpriced that I'm just not going to go again. I lived Turkey for a long time and was excited to try a place that offers some of the similar dishes I knew and loved. Unfortunately, it's just it. Everything is spiced and seasoned to the average American palette that doesn't recognize subtlety as an art. Ammatoli! Such a delightful dining experience. We started with the mezze. The spicy hummus and falafel were amazing, as was the bread that came with it. Definitely order the potatoes. They are so good. My friend and I shared the lamb, which was cooked so well. Dessert was the recommendation from the bartender and we're so glad we listened. That pistachio baklava was the best way to end that meal. Our server made our dining experience so much better. read more
