Since I'm gluten free I asked for carrot and cucumber to enjoy the dips and it was perfect! The mutabbal was my favorite. It was a perfect blend of eggplant. It had a touch of lemon and the pomegranate seed garnish was an excellent addition to give it a light and fresh taste. For my entree I ordered the spicy lemon garlic chicken. It was so tender and delicious and the sauce was to die for, it gave it the perfect zing. I like that they put it on the side so you can add to taste. My boyfriend got the lamb chops and ate every last bite so needless to say, he loved it. The wine we ordered came at Mary's recommendation based on our dinner order. My family and I visited this restaurant to celebrate a belated Father's Day yesterday. I was impressed by the nice ambiance and overall decor. The food was good and the specialty drinks were unique. However, this place could benefit with some training on customer service. Our waitress was not very welcoming and didn't like the fact that we had to ask her several times for refills on our drinks. It's almost like she intentionally ignored our request. The fact that we even had to ask for refills shows their inattentive service staff. Also, if you have a party of four, don't bring 3 pita breads, bring 4 breads. I asked for an additional bread but she wanted to charge me for a whole set. This is unacceptable. As someone who has visited many Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants, I know quality food paired with quality service. My experience here was definitely not quality service. They are more concerned about getting you in and out within your 90 minute time limit than providing you an enjoyable dinner experience. Not the best first impression or experience for us. read more

If you're a Long Beach local foodie, I'm sure you have participated on the online debate of Ammatoli vs. Open Sesame... although there are significant differences between the two Middle Eastern restaurants, it's always a fun debate to participate in. I'm one who believes the latter is better. Food here is really good. When comparing the two, I'd give the edge to Open Sesame but I will say that the chicken is much better at Ammatoli. The spicy garlic lemon chicken is delicious and even their basic chicken kabob is juicer than my preferred Long Beach Middle Eastern restaurant. Service is great here. During my last visit, our server was super friendly and personable. Ambiance definitely sets this restaurant apart. The architecture is beautiful inside and on a nice day, it's nice to enjoy your meal on their patio. So why the three stars? My partner and I ordered iced tea. I emailed Ammatoli directly about this experience before posting publicly because I wanted to give them an opportunity to address it privately. I never received a response. I was dining alone and seated at the bar around 3:17 PM on Sunday. I ordered a small 3 part mezze platter shortly afterward, but waited roughly 30 minutes without my food or any acknowledgment of the delay. During that time, my server and the manager interacted with the patron seated next to me, including offering her drink samples, but neither checked in about my order. Several larger parties who arrived after me were also served before I was. My server eventually apologized and rewrote my order, which made it appear the original order had not been entered. She had offered me two small dips earlier, but this was before I voiced any dissatisfaction or the missed order was acknowledged. When my check arrived, I was also charged for pita I had specifically been told was complimentary (before my long wait) and had to wait again for the bill to be corrected. When I finally raised the overall experience with the manager, his response to my concern about the long wait was, "Did you eat your food, though?" Only after I complained was I offered dessert. I declined because I had already spent much longer there than expected. Beyond correcting the erroneous pita charge, there was no other acknowledgment or adjustment. Mistakes happen. What disappointed me was that no one proactively acknowledged or addressed the mistake--I had to bring it up myself after the meal. As a solo diner sitting right at the bar, being repeatedly passed over without communication left me feeling overlooked. Unfortunately, the service experience overshadowed the meal itself. read more

I'm met a coworker for dinner. This restaurant is located in a restaurant heavy portion of Long Beach. The parking situation is a street parking or one of the parking garages in the area. There is one about a block or two along third Avenue that is free for the first two hours. We were sat down promptly after telling him about our reservations. We were immediately told that we have to be out of the table within 90 minutes. This is probably the most offputting thing about the whole experience, and it wasn't a big deal. The service was very nice and the food came out quickly. The restaurant was modern Mediterranean. It was quiet enough to have a conversation. We ordered some hummus, but oddly enough you had to order the pita separately. Both the pita and the hummus were good. I thought the hummus was extremely creamy in the best way possible. They gave a generous portion. I think the hummus would've been slightly more successful if it had a touch more salt and the chickpeas were crispy. The pita tasted like it was made fresh to order. I would be liked a tiny slather of salted butter on it but otherwise it was delicious. I ordered a borek and it was fine. We had an order of the crispy cauliflower which to me were just okay and a touch greasy. We ordered the areyes which were tasty but on the thin side. Lastly, we ordered the pistachio baklava. It was dry. My least favorite dish. It was also weird to see a champagne cork fly across the restaurant. I think that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Bottom line, would I go back? Yes. read more
