Celebrated my daughter's birthday dinner and the whole staff was lovely. The restaurant is on the smaller side but cute. The food was solid, some bites were full of flavor and tastier than others like the first bites and scallop and some were just ok like the beef. Dessert was also just ok. Definitely worth a try at least once.

I first came here when I was in Long Beach for work a few years ago and I loved the entire experience. Fast forward to a conference I was attending in Anaheim with my family. When I heard Heritage had received a Michelin star, I jumped at the chance to take my family. They all loved it and it was a hit from start to finish. It is definitely won't it to hear reservation. The best part, everyone on staff is truly friendly, helpful and attentive. The dining room is a little bit dark. It's a small price to pay for the amazing food from tonight's dinner. The flavors continue to be creative, inventive, and unforgettable. I never thought I'd ever enjoy passion fruit and crudo together, but I'm a fan! The sea urchin toast intimidated me but was actually a perfect little bite. And dessert was a work of art.

Came in to celebrate a birthday. Parking is not easy to find, so show up at least a few minutes early. We were let in to our kitchen counter seats at the reserved time. And the tasting experience began. First up was a trio of "first bites"--the Sea Urchin Crostata was an explosion of flavor, one of my favorite bites of the night. Also up were a chunk of pickled pineapple and a lobster gougere. This was followed by some seafood courses: Wild Kampachi with passion fruit, jicama, and house yogurt--very much like you would get at a good sushi restaurant. Then, Abalone Rice... I'm not a fan of abalone usually, but the wild rice by itself made this dish great and "Live Scallop in Shell", with a smoked trout roe that took this to the next level. Finally, Line-Caught Black Cod. The lobster bisque that served as a sauce could have been its own dish, and would have been one of the best of the night. Finally, the "main" of the night, Aged Duck & Smoked Leg: a perfectly cooked duck breast, accompanied by duck leg confit. The persimmon was a genius accompaniment and made this dish the overall star. They finished the meal with a trio of deserts: a sunchoke ice cream with honeycomb, carrot cake with candied walnuts, and a final two bites of pate de fruit and a chocolate bonbon. We left not overstuffed but still satisfied.

The food was very good! Each dish felt light yet complex, which I really enjoyed. The vibe is intimate, and from the outside the restaurant almost looks like someone's home, which adds to the charm. That said, for a $175 meal, I did leave feeling a bit hungry, and I'm not someone who usually eats a lot. The portions are on the smaller side, which I didn't mind, but I think one additional dish, or a more carb-forward course (we didn't have one), would have made the meal feel more satisfying overall. Service-wise, the pacing felt uneven. There were noticeable pauses between dishes. Given the Michelin star, I was expecting better timing. Note: Definitely plan to arrive early for parking. There's no valet, and street parking in this part of Long Beach is very difficult to find.

After long await, we finally decided to splurge on Heritage. Heritage is a no doubt a highly talented kitchen, but for a Michelin starred restaurant, the experience did not justify the price. The food was generally well executed, though several dishes were overly salty. Portions were extremely small throughout the meal. Many plates were literally the size of a quarter. The main course was especially disappointing, consisting of a single slice of duck breast. Yes, a single slice. Dessert followed the same pattern with a very small chocolate bite and another tiny fruit bite. It did not feel like a proper finale. The lighting was dark and intimate, which I appreciated, but the dining room itself was cramped and loud. Instead of feeling private, it felt like sitting closely packed with other diners. There was no live music, though the playlist was good. Presentation was inconsistent, particularly early in the meal. With portions this small, stronger presentation would have helped elevate the experience. Pacing also declined toward the end of the dinner, with noticeable delays, which disrupted the flow. Overall, while there were aspects to enjoy, the combination of tiny portions, uneven pacing, and crowded atmosphere made the experience not worth the cost.

Came here for my birthday and had a really great time! We opted to sit at the bar and were able to watch the open kitchen work. We even got to speak to some of the chefs working, which added to the experience. Now the food: the menu looked promising but the first few courses were not exciting. Flavors were confusing, some weren't punchy enough, others over seasoned, and yet some just didn't go together. We were getting a bit worried until we arrived at the middle of the menu and the dishes were homeruns! My favorites were the proteins: scallops and duck. Both were expertly cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The desserts weren't mind blowing but tasty and ended the dinner on a good bite. I would definitely return at a different season to try a different menu and see what they have to offer.

RSVP for 8pm.. we didn't leave till about 11:18pm.. Personally, I felt like service was wayyyyyy tooo slow.. chairs are super uncomfortable to be left sitting for so long... Food was great but definitely were left with an appetite after which was kinda upsetting since it was almost $200 a head without wine.. plus tip This was a one time experience for us.

July 5, 2025 was our second time at Heritage. We decided to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. Since our first dinner here a year ago was so lovely, we were eager to return! Marissa and the rest of the staff were attentive and friendly throughout the night. We were impressed with each course and kept talking about our favorites long after dinner was over. I really enjoyed the wine pairing in our first dining. They have many NA options too for those avoiding alcohol. Heritage has a cozy, intimate vibe overall and it's no surprise many others were celebrating there too. If you haven't experienced Long Beach's 1st Michelin Starred restaurant, don't wait!

Updating review since my last visit was when Heritage first opened and prior to earning their Michelin star. They have truly elevated and refined their service and execution of dishes. With just four seats at the counter and six tables in the dining room, guests still get the warm home hospitality feel in an intimate setting. Their tastings are now set at $160 per person, which comes with 12 thoughtfully curated bites of umami, textures and variety. The majority of their produce and herbs are grown in the Heritage Farm, just a mile away from the restaurant. Staying true to their zero-waste philosophy, they repurpose any excess ingredients into compost cycling back to the gardens. Sustainable dining at its finest! They respectfully do not allow substitutions, but it is understandable with their mission in mind. Summer 2025 tasting menu: Palo Santo Mint- an herbal shot to open the senses Steamed Baby Corn- loved the shaved truffle on top Box Crab- lovely pastry bite Pickled Plum- palate cleanser Slow-Cooked Farm Beets Celtuce, fennel, house yogurt Live Scallop in Shell Dashi, smoked trout roe Braised Sweetbreads- not really bread but yummy chunks of bacon with spring onion, fava bean and greens Mt. Lassen Trout Beluga lentil, herb pistou- Loved! 32-Day Dry Aged Rib Chop Delta asparagus, spring onion Crème Caviar: Heritage caviar, manzanilla oil - soooo good! Mille-feuille: Strawberry, rhubarb, pistachio Pâte de Fruit Boysenberry- like gummies :) Wine pairing is an additional $95. We opted to bring a bottle of wine for a $40 cork fee. Valet is $25, but you might be able to find street parking on 7th Street. Incredible experience and so happy to have this gem in Long Beach!

Loved the entire meal and experience! Our server was very knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine pairings. A very comfortable environment with zero pretense. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was my first Michelin Star restaurant visit but it was great! The open kitchen made the bar and front room seating a little warm, kind of like eating in your kitchen with the yummy smells as well. I am a big Food HD watcher and I enjoyed watching the preparation. The menu was superb and the wine pairing was outstanding! Cost was $650 for two of us, one with wine pairing and one without. Honestly, it was well worth it!

We do not recommend this restaurant, came here for a dinner with some friends. Knowing that it's difficult to find parking we arrived early and circled around for 10 minutes, our friends thought there will be valet but none at front. The space was very small, intimate setting but frankly just noisy as ceiling was low and everything was hard finishes. We had to talk loud to hear each other. So as servers presented the dish, they were not talking loud enough and most of time we couldn't hear what they said the dishes were, it was simply not clear. The food, was decent, I would have given 3-4 star for the food. However, half way through the course, I told our server we are worried with this little amount of 7 dishes would not fill us, I'm worried we would be hungry. And I really have to warn everyone if you come hungry with an appetite, trust my review and other reviews on here that mentioned the same thing, it's NOT enough food! We had dined at many Michelin star and fine dining restaurants, if they have a set menu we know each plate has small portion with nice presentation, but they will have many more courses to fill us up. Heritage only has 7 dishes and that's including dessert, with this price you could just have included 1-2 dishes that would be better. We went home and immediately cooked ramen to eat, that shows you how unsatisfying this meal was. Now moving onto the service, you really need to train your waiters and waitresses! Both me and my friend went to restroom separate times, my frd went down the hallway and passed by 2 servers and no one acknowledged him. If you are at any fine dining restaurants, and you left your seat the server immediately knows you are looking for a restroom and will direct you. They completely ignored him and looked sideways, he ended up walking all the way to the back of the kitchen and was confused then the kitchen staff told him you missed it, it was midway thru the hallway. Moreover, the restroom sign was white sign on a white door, it's so easy to miss it! The same thing happened to me too, I was looking for restroom and standing next to the kitchen counter, no one acknowledged me and I had to get their attention to ask if this is a restroom with me pointing at the door. You get the idea how unobvious that sign was and how bad the service was. I'm talking about one star Michelin, definitely not worth it in our opinion. Finally, that's right, I'm not done yet. The space is horribly designed with ventilation. Mid-way through the course, it was smokey in the dining area and I had tears in my eyes and had to blink multiple times. Just fyi, our table was at the far end from the kitchen. I looked far into the kitchen, they only had one window half opened in the back and all the smoke smell was going into the dining area. All of us felt it but we didn't complain as we were trying our best to enjoy our time out. When we left and stepped into the car, I smelled the smoke on my jacket, on my inside shirt (I had the jacket on the whole time), and smoke all over my hair! As soon as we got home, we had to switch out all the clothes, cooked and ate the ramen, then jumped into shower and tossed all clothes in washer to get rid of the Smokey smell. Omg this place is horribly designed without adequate verification just really bad overall. If you still decide to go after reading this, for whatever reason, just make sure you have a full lunch of the day before dinner, know not to wear nice clothes (as you will need to dry clean them immediately), and understand the time required to circle around small streets endlessly to look for parking. I honestly want to give it 1 star Yelp review out of all the negative, but the additional 1 was for the chef that the food is decent. But again, do not recommend, take your date and celebrate the special moment elsewhere!

Summary: has potential but not quite Michelin 1-star. I'm rating this restaurant based on food, service, and ambiance. Food overall didn't impress me. There were a few times where the right utensils weren't provided. For example, the pineapple pickle was considered a finger food. The first few courses were extremely disappointing. They were either too strong in a specific flavor (sour, saltiness) or too bland. I only started enjoying the food starting from the kingfish, which is technically the 8th course. Service was a mixed bag. A waitress provided a bag hook and they gave complimentary champagne for our anniversary. However, we didn't have a dedicated server. Depending on who served the dish, we either received a thoughtful explanation of the dish or a plain statement of what's presented. Ambiance was probably the lowest of the 3 pillars. I understand that the restaurant used to be a house so things might look funky and the noise may be amplified. The place was crammed with so many tables and it was a full house. With all the talking that echoes, I couldn't talk and listen without leaning in. There was very little room between each table so i felt like a sardine in a tight can. 5/10 for the experience. Definitely not worth the price tag or the Michelin compared to Melisse and Providenxe when they were 1 star.

Cozy spot, great staff and friendly service. The spot has a warm home feeling. The food was amazing, the deserts are unforgettable! I couldn't do the win pairing but my party did and it was some of the best California wine they've had. Will bring my parent's next team to enjoy this mouthful of flavors. Got lost in the flavors that I kept eating before remembering to take pictures. Don't worry, I'll go back again to take them.

Is ther3 a vegan menu or vegan options?

No. This is a chef's table menu and you eat what you're served and lucky to get a table to enjoy the food. The website also states no menu changes

Any thoughts on sitting at the chefs counter versus in the restaurant proper? Is that really an option? I see it on Open Table for this restaurant.

Yes, it’s definitely an option. There are seats at the high counter that overlook the kitchen, and you can actually see people dining there in some of the photos. It looks like a fun experience — kind of like sitting at a sushi bar, but with a full… Read more

Our server was very warm and helpful. For two of us we ordered one heavier dish and 3 on the lighter side and I actually left pretty stuffed. The menu is always evolving so I'd love to return, but for this visit we started with the bread and ham butter. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the ham butter imparted so much flavor. My favorite item that we ordered was the Galician Octopus. The thin slices were perfectly executed and the flavors underneath packed a punch. I would pass on the Gambas al Ajillo. While the shrimp were large, I found myself wishing that they had some char. The Summer Squash Salad was a perfect complement to the other dishes. I found the squash ribbons to be unique, the dressing to be light and fresh, and the inclusion of small bits of cheese to impart just the right amount of saltiness to the dish. Because we were celebrating my birthday, they gave us a complimentary slice of the basque cheesecake with a candle in it. Typically I'm not a big fan of this type of cheesecake, but theirs was wonderful and we ate the whole thing. I'm always appreciative when a restaurant does a little something extra for a special occasion. Extra props to our server because she noticed the gift that my friend brought for me and took it upon herself to inquire about the occasion and bring the dessert. Making reservations is recommended since the restaurant is small but making it wasn't too difficult. We were impressed by how cute it was. It had a dark European vibe which we loved. It's definitely intimate and great for small groups, not so much larger ones. We brought in our own wine to enjoy with a corkage free. We got seated right away and our nice waiter gave us great recommendations and answered our many questions. We ended up ordering a lot between all three of us but that's just how we roll. We started with their bread & ham butter, pork pate, and burrata. The pork pate didn't come with bread so we were glad our waiter recommended it. The pate was really good and was different. It was on the dense side but still spreadable and full of flavor. The burrata had peaches, cherries and pinenuts. It was different but in a good way and we also ate that with the bread. It was more bland and nice with the pate. For dinner we got their steak tartare, mushrooms, chicken, and pork. The steak tartare was on the saltier side which I didn't mind. It was actually a large portion and sat on some toast. The mushrooms were a hit. They were braised with an onsen egg on top to mix. The pork was exceptional. It was flavorful, tender, and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it for protein. My least favorite dish was the chicken, which was actually super tender and cooked just right. I just didn't like the sauce taste and I am not a fan of beans. We ended the night with some basque cheesecake which was not too sweet and delicious. What an incredible meal. The pricing we thought was good for the quality and what you get. Some of the portions were smaller but good for us. The pork did have a 40 minute wait to make which our waiter told us. Service was amazing and the food came out as it was made. The restaurant is small so reservations is recommended. They have limited parking and there is also street parking around.

When booking, I had the option of dining , chef's table, or patio seating. I specifically chose the dining since my daughter loves creating content, and the indoor ambiance is absolutely beautiful for photos. The hostess seated us on the patio, and I mentioned that I had selected dining. I was told that seating is based on first availability, which was a little disappointing, especially since the restaurant is right on the water and by 7:30 PM it was getting pretty chilly. While they do have heaters outside, sitting in gusty winds with the smell of gas (especially after a fresh trip to the hairdresser!) just wasn't ideal. My daughter went back to the car to grab a blanket. Thankfully, the hostess noticed my discomfort and came back shortly after saying, "Donna, we have another table further down that's out of the wind and under a heat lamp." That small gesture made a big difference, and honestly, that's when the experience started to turn around. From there, things only got better. When our entrées arrived, our waiter Nick realized we had never received our appetizers. Without hesitation, he assured us he would make it right, and he absolutely did. He brought out a selection of cheeses for us to sample, which led to us ordering a caviar bump paired with champagne (highly recommend!). To top it all off, he surprised my daughter with olive cake and fresh berries to celebrate her birthday. Such a thoughtful touch. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. Not just because the food was amazing, but because of the attention to detail and how seriously they take the overall dining experience. Parking is available in a nearby garage, and they validate the first 90 minutes, which is a nice bonus.

Yesterday, I came here for my birthday lunch with my mom after she made a reservation, and honestly, I wish we had just gone somewhere else. We sat down right at our 1:00 reservation and then waited 35 minutes just to get a drink menu. Not food. Not to order. Just the menu for drinks. After we finally ordered, the champagne showed up about 20 minutes later. It was served in wine glasses, which feels like basic wine bar knowledge, but apparently not here. When we asked to switch them to champagne glasses, the waiter brought out smaller wine glasses. Not exactly good etiquette for a place that leans so heavily on its bar concept. The whipped ricotta appetizer came out even later, around the 65 minute mark. As an appetizer. It was fine, probably the best thing we had, but "fine" after that kind of wait is not a positive. From there, everything just dragged. It took almost an hour for my mom's meatballs to come out, and when they did, they were raw. Not slightly underdone. Fully pink in the middle. She sent them back and was so turned off she didn't even want to eat anything else. I ordered a salad and specifically asked for light dressing. What I got was the opposite. It was drenched in a thick, heavy dressing that made the whole thing borderline inedible and the lettuce soggy. After our food, I tried to order drip coffee, which they didn't have, so I settled for an Americano. I asked for warm cream, which I've had done at plenty of places, and somehow it came out clotted. If you know anything about coffee, that shouldn't happen. At this point, we had been there for over two and a half hours. For a salad, an appetizer, and four raw meatballs. The server was very nice and doing his best with being busy. BUT, the overall operation felt completely disorganized and untrained. We weren't the only ones either. The couple next to us was also complaining after waiting 40 minutes just to order breakfast items. To make it even better, parking is only comped for 90 minutes. So because of their slow service, we ended up paying for parking on top of overpriced, underwhelming food. What should have been a 45 minute lunch turned into a 2.5 hour ordeal. The bathroom also wasn't clean either time I went, which pretty much sums up the lack of attention to detail across the board. The only slightly redeeming part was the crème brûlée, which was... fine. Not amazing. Just fine. It's a pretty space. I'll give them that. But that's about where the positives end. The food is not good, the timing is unacceptable, and the whole experience feels like Instagram style over quality and substance. Definitely not worth the money, and not somewhere I'd ever go back to.

I liked it a lot, especially the tech house, I think all of the DJs that come here do tech house only. The only thing I didn't like was the people who make their way into the audience but then they just stand there and don't dance. If you are going to push your way towards the front and disrupt everyone's flow and rhythm just to stand there and take up space, that's very annoying. Go stand in the back if you aren't going to dance.

The escargot a favorite of ours. Re-used shells ok whatever but at least put a bigger piece of meat in there. The shells were filled with oil and some greens but the meat of the "escargot " was a little bit bigger than a pea! The fresh bread was great. Salad Endive - ehh chunks of ham??? Couldn't parent it better or just cheap meat? Steak was very tough. I had to spit a part out bc of the sinew. Then the frozen garlic butter hockey puck!! How do you expect people to put this or use this when it's frozen solid? The meat isn't hot enough to melt it. Overall you need to do better. Won't be coming back anytime soon unfortunately!

Like people said it was romantic and I was like sure, I guess in the pictures it kind of does. In person though??? Wow. Absolutely wow. I was in awe. I wish I could sit there every day. The lights and ambiance are truly insane. I have never experienced anything like it. Let me backtrack too and say that I paid $14 for valet which tbh is not too bad considering I didn't have to worry about my car or anything so it was worth it. Okay the food. We got Parker rolls and the Mezze plate for the table. Wow, the Parker rolls were as you would expect. Buttery goodness. French butter as you know...top tier. Okay the Mezze plate? Every single sauce was so good. The little cous cous thing in the Mezze plate was so cute and yummy. Then the main dishes. Seven vegetable couscous was great. As a Moroccan, I can say it was a great vegetarian version of the dish. Has the staple veggies you look for in a cous cous. My friend got the vegan cauliflower steak and that was so beautiful and tasted delicious. It was a great dish for my vegan friend. Our waiter was so nice and really personable as well. From start to finish, he was there for us when we needed him and we really enjoyed our dining experience because of him. I forgot his name but he's a star. I have already recommended this place to others because it really was so incredible. I am so happy I got to come here.

She chose this place for the Instagram worthy atmosphere you see online, but I would say it falls a little short of how picturesque it is. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice garden setup up, but we were expecting a more romantic and whimsical layout. We also noticed that the dress code is very loosely enforced as there were numerous people there with T shirts on. We got there for our reservation about 15 minutes early and was seated quite fast. The hostesses at the front were quite friendly and the wait staff were attentive and mostly nice. One of our servers seemed a little curt at one point, but it wasn't too bad. Once you are seated they ask about your drink order, and offered wines, sparkling water, and literally said "tap water". Pretty surprised that they said tap water, but we went with a glass of wine and sparkling water. The menu is short and it's easy to make your decision. We went with the 24oz Prime Ribeye Steak, Pappardelle pasta, Kingfish Crudo, and the Portuguese Piri Piri Shrimp. The ribeye was served with scalloped potatoes and green beans that were delicious. The ribeye was a perfect medium rare, tender, and served in a very balanced sauce. The Piri Piri Shrimp was also great. Large pieces in a slightly spicy cream sauce; I would describe it as almost a Cajun flavor. These were my favorites of the dishes we ordered on this night. The Kingfish Crudo was a nice choice. I believe it was yellowtail served with small pieces of cherry tomatoes and peach chunks. The sauce was nice and refreshing with a little sweetness. The Pappardelle Pasta was ok, and probably my least favorite dish of the night. It wasn't bad, but wasn't on par with the rest of our meal. The thick pasta noodles were al dente, and the sauce was nice and creamy with pieces of green beans. It got better once we mixed the poached egg into the sauce, but still didn't get it to the point where we would order it again. Since it was my fiancé's birthday, she wanted to get one of their desserts served as a small birthday. She saw pictures of their passion fruit coconut cheesecake on Instagram and wanted that, but they changed it where the passion fruit was at the bottom of the cake. I thought it was decent, but not a great dessert. I thought the staff would at least sing happy birthday like other restaurants, but that didn't happen here. Overall, The Little Door is a small romantic stop to have a date night. I don't know if I would consider it a place to celebrate a special occasion though. I think we would come back, but not for anything big. Also, I would recommend using the valet, it's right in front and they only charge $14 pre tip.

The food looked amazing, but I was still a little skeptical that it could live up to the hype. I'm happy to say it exceeded every expectation. This was genuinely one of the best dining experiences I've had in Southern California. I came for a girls' night out, and everything was flawless from start to finish. The wine pairing was perfect, and even the complimentary bread and truffle butter that arrived at the table were unforgettable. We started with the escargot and the hamachi crisp--both beautifully presented and bursting with balanced, sophisticated flavors. For our entrées, I ordered the uni pasta, while my friends chose the scallops and the sea bass. We all shared bites of each dish, and every plate was outstanding. The quality of the ingredients, execution, and attention to detail were evident in every course. What truly elevated the evening was the hospitality. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we ended up being the last guests in the restaurant, spending time talking with both the staff and the owner, Andrew. His passion for his vision, commitment to quality, and dedication to creating a memorable dining experience were inspiring. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Unfortunately, one employee, Marisol, consistently provides poor customer service. She comes across as combative, takes no accountability for mistakes, and makes resolving simple issues unnecessarily difficult. My daughter called in our usual order for pickup. When she arrived, she immediately noticed something was wrong because the total was much lower than expected. When she politely brought it to Marisol's attention, instead of acknowledging that there may have been a mistake, Marisol insisted the order had never been placed that way. She then asked my daughter if she wanted to order the missing item while she was already there to pick up her food, which would require waiting another 15 minutes. Since the delay was the result of an incorrect order, my daughter asked if she could at least receive fresh fries while waiting. Marisol told her she would have to pay extra for fresh fries. Marisol also claimed that she had repeated the order back over the phone when it was originally placed. That simply isn't true. She rushed my daughter off the phone, saying she'd see her in 15 minutes, without reviewing the order. We've continued to support A&J's because the food is consistently excellent, but experiences like this make it harder to keep coming back. Great food can only go so far when customers are made to feel dismissed instead of valued. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and provides additional customer service training so loyal customers receive the experience they deserve.
