This was our first time coming here and we loved it!! It is such a cute little cafe! When you walk inside you feel like you're transported to a cozy cafe in a beautiful Spanish Pueblo. The service was so friendly and they really make you feel like you're at home! In terms of food I give it a 10/10! I got the chilaquiles with carne asada and the balance of all the flavors was perfection! The cafe de olla was some of the best I've tried yet! Today is a sad day. Amorelia's was my go to place when I was craving green chilaquiles. But the chilaquiles just don't look or taste the same anymore. They used to plate them beautifully on a square plate with the beans next to the chilaquiles, a nice portion of meat on top, and a little salad with jalepenos and a pickled carrot. But the plate today looked nothing like it. The serving of chilaquiles and meat was smaller than before, the beans were served in their own bowl, and the little salad I used to love was gone. The price over the years has continued to go up and I didn't mind paying the extra $ when the quality was still there. However, the chilaquiles with steak are now $23 and I'm afraid they are not worth that price anymore. Sadly, I don't think I'll be returning after today. read more

I wish this place was 5 stars but honestly its really an overly hyped cafe. I had high expectations due to the reviews and I left disappointed. I ordered the green pazole and Mexican fluffy pancakes. First red flag- they charge you for chips n salsa The food is NOT bad, its just not amazing either. Pay $15-$17 for 3 regular pancakes ( nothing fluffy amount them) a sliced half of a strawberry lol cmon guys. Now the pazole verde- I REALLY wanted to love this because I was craving it, but unfortunately super disappointing. Its not terrible but its just blah. For $17-$21 for pazole, I would hope its bomb but it wasnt. $7-$10 drinks ( Arnold Palmer and Horchata) Overall I was disappointed because I couldve made 3 "actually" fluffy pancakes at home , and made my homemade green pasole rather than paying $60 for 2 meals that were just blah. This is a gem in hiding! The restaurant is tucked in a large shopping center so can be hard to see. Their dishes are authentic to Michoacan and so is the ambiance of the restaurant. The enchiladas placeras were delicious and the mini sopes are a must! read more

Such a cute and cozy little restaurant. This is one of the few places that was open on Labor Day Monday. I was looking for a good Mexican spot to take my dad for his birthday, which this year fell on the holiday. It was my first time here, although I had heard of the restaurant through social media a couple years ago, just hadn't dined here 'til today. I love the ambiance and the stone walls. There's even a lantern with a mechanical butterfly. A lovely & magical addition to the decor. There are a few tables, a nice little bar, along with a couple big screens. You can set reservations on their website, or call ahead for a special occasion, like a birthday, or anniversary. Oh and they do offer a free flan dessert for a celebration. The food here is really, really good. Every single item from the appetizer to the desserts sound amazing! I had to try the Asado Al Pastor first, and it was so flavorful and perfectly cooked. We always love going to Amorelia. It's one of our favorite spots. Most recently I had the Chayote Squash dish and mixed vegetables. My husband had the Chile Colorado. My daughter has special dietary needs and they always accommodate. They had a nice 2 piece band, as well. Highly recommend! read more

Cute little and intimate hole-in-the-wall-esque restaurant located in a strip mall in Costs Mesa. My friend and I ordered the carne asada plate with Horchata as our drink. 3.5/5 stars (which is actually pretty good based on how harshly I rate Mexican joints lol) Don't come here if you have a massive appetite, the portions are just right for a meal at the end of the night. This restaurant is beautiful inside. My uncle swears by the chicken noodle soup and orders it every time he's here. The salsas are made fresh, the chips are excellent, and the black beans are good. Everything else we tried was average. For those who aren't accustomed to Mexican food, then this would satisfy those cravings. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed. I remember when this place opened as I lived nearby at the time. I recall it as being smaller and more casual but now it has a liquor license and is perfectly pleasant for a date night. I recently had mole at a swanky Mexican restaurant and it left me longing for Amorelia's mole (chicken poblano mole) that I haven't had in over a decade. It was exactly as I remember it and unfortunately has ruined all other versions of mole for me. Elsewhere mole can be too salty, too sweet, not spiced enough, slightly bitter...here the depth of warmth and seasoning is simply perfect. It is forever my favorite chicken mole. The white meat boneless chicken shreds under your fork and is just dry enough to soak up sauce. It's literally perfect, no notes, and I'm especially impressed they kept it perfect for so many years. Their soups were also my favorite back then but as I can only visit sparingly I cannot pass up the chicken poblano mole. read more

This place is an true hidden gem! The food is incredibly delicious! Has the authentic Mexican flavor with a surprise modern twist of more flavor. This place will did not disappoint. The musico in the background was such a nice vibe. The energy of the people was chill. The waitress and bartenders were on it. Love how the waitress knew the ingredients and how to describe the entrees I asked about. A great place for a nice meal with a date of friends or simply have a nice dinner by myself. We frequented this restaurant many times over the years. Saturday night we came in expecting a nice meal. My husband ordered the Alambres de Ribeye $24 He got a slab of meat $24 rice and beans $7 on a plate. In the past, the Alambres de Ribeye was served sizzling on a skillet with portabella mushrooms, grilled onions, Oaxaca cheese, topped with grilled cambray onions and tortillas. He asked for some veggies and they charged us another $4. So the total cost for something that was not what Alambres de Ribeye was $34!!!! Unacceptable! We will never be back. That's it. read more

Surprising to walk into a restaurant with it less than half full and not being asked to sit anywhere we'd like. No big deal though, we were seated and we dove into the menu. After about 10 minutes we got chips and salsa but no visit from any of the 3-4 servers who passed right by us with not even an acknowledgment. We flagged down 1 server who greeted us with a "yes?" Now that was strange...but again we let it go and asked for the drink menu and water. And that was odd too...absolutely no prompt to order appetizers so again we waited for our drinks and ordered the guacamole and queso fundido. The guacamole to me tasted less than fresh, it had that day old avocado taste you get when an avocado is just past its prime. My friend didn't notice, she enjoyed it just fine. The salsa was quite good and had a little heat so that was nice. Chips were good too and the queso fundido was bubbly hot and delicious with chorizo and mushrooms. We shared the carnitas at the suggestion of our server. They were very good and just enough food to make us stuffed. No dessert but I did order a second margarita. I enjoyed them and probably would have been much more enthusiastic with a review if the service was more welcoming and friendly. Food is good but service is questionable - next time I'd opt for a different restaurant and hope for better service. read more

A friend recommended broadly Amorelia in Costa Mesa, after errands in Northgate González Market I realized Amorelia is just across the street! I really enjoyed the good taste décor and furniture, they got lovely spanish guitar music in their sound system, it was hard to decide what to try since you read many good dishes in dinner menu, they have a different menu for breakfast and was told chilaquiles and French toast is one of their most popular dishes, prices are average to this county, they open from 9 to 9 so i tasted couple bites of my food, packed to go and left bc it was almost closed... i choose the tortas de chayote con queso fresco is a almost a vegetarian dish it's DELICIOUS! Widely recommend Only place they cook as my mom cooking my respect for the chefs/cooks, delivered beautifully on that dish, their rice and beans good, churros and cafe de olla excellent my only disappointment was to discover mold/fungus underneath the strawberry they used to garnish the churros i only ate one churro when something make me turn around that berry and yuk! I couldn't eat the rest of the churros bc who knows if mold infected the other pieces ? I throw them...
