We eat there every now and then and it has always been good. Last night was great! We went in around 8 p.m. the entire place was packed. They literally got us in, sat and fed in 30 minutes...the service was so quick. Not that you want to be out of a restaurant in 30 minutes but very efficient. I got the turkey tips with risotto and it was great! Left overs was even better. 1. The bruchetta with goat cheese and tomatoes was awesome but only two pieces of bread with a ton of tomatoes and goat cheese for $10. Needs to have more bread come with it for the portion and the price. 2. They got new wine glasses which I am a fan of. We went here on a Groupon. We started with the Buffalo Dip which was enormous. It was a bit heavy for my liking, considering we ordered a large meal, but it was tasty and I would order this on it's own or just with a sandwich. I got the Pumpkin risotto. That was delicious and the presentation was pretty cool, in a pumpkin! I think the cheese on top was over kill, it didn't need it, however. Our server was great. After a disastrous attempt at brunch at a snazzy new place in the South End, we thought we'd try Amrhein's. We frequently get breakfast at Mul's across the street and wanted to give this a whirl. Great selection, made-to-order omelets, and a price that can't be beat. I'm not a huge buffet fan, cause I find the food to get soggy or cold, but the salads, fresh cut cold cuts, and carving station all made this outing worth it. Not to mention the wait staff was very friendly and helpful. I was invited for a brunch by my friend. She really liked this place however I got different experience. Brunch price is $21 per person and starts at 10:00 AM. We got there at 10:15 and some of the food was already pretty cold not even warm . I have to say that I didn't try everything that they have but I've tried enough to realized that I'm not coming back. Salad was pretty fresh however they put way too much onions so Instead of spring salad I had onion salad. Bacon was so fat and greasy. With first bite I felt tons of oil in my mouth. Gross! From fruits they had mix of melons and pineapple which were good and fresh however watermelon was very soft and mushy. I can't say anything bad about desert they did had a good selection of mini cakes, pastries as well as mini cannoli. For me they were just bla. Something that I can buy at supermarket. You could taste that the cake were not super fresh but not too old. my boyfriend and i have been to amrheins in southie two times now. we bought a living social deal for $20 and you get $40 to eat there for brunch or dinner, so we decided to try it out for brunch last week. this was the first time we went - brunch is all you can eat/drink (besides alcoholic beverages). without a deal, brunch is $20 per person. we had a rough time our first time here - we were seated almost immediately by the waitress and put in our drink orders. when we had just settled (approx 15 min later) and were about to check out the brunch buffet, the hostess came over and told us we were seated in someone else's spot and we needed to get up immediately. she was very frustrated and gave us an attitude about moving - this made us feel instantly as though we were to blame for being put in the wrong seats. not only did we have to move after we were settled, we were put at the end of the wait list! once the hostess began seating other parties ahead of us, i asked an employee walking by to speak with the manager after i explained the situation. turns out the manager was the hostess...she then seated us promptly and asked what was wrong - um, this literally happened in a 10 minute time frame so i was a little surprised that she acted so shocked that we complained/asked to speak to the manager. after i explained to her how we felt that we were blamed and that it was unfair that we were put at the end of the wait list altogether, she apologized and let us know that our brunch was free of charge. this was great and helped make it up to us...so we decided to give the place another try. we went today with our living social deal and had a great time. seated quickly and apparently in the right spot :), had a delicious brunch and took our time. good service this time around. there is a myriad of options in the all you can eat brunch - fresh fruit, specialty pasta salads, caprese, pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, corned beef hash, steak tips, chicken wings, mashed potatoes, veggies, and more. great section of desserts such as cheesecake (delicious!), chocolate cake, cannolis, etc. since our 2nd visit went so well, i am giving armheins 3 stars. there is also an ATM in the restaurant which is helpful and outdoor seating (too hot to sit outside for us this and last weekend though). i really felt like our first experience was just a "bad day" for the restaurant and we are likely to go back. read more

Let me start by saying that I've been frequenting Amrheins for several years now and have never been disappointed. Well, not NEVER but hardly ever; but I digress.... Last night was the first time I had been there since their renovation and I was gravely disappointed. I ordered a greek salad with a side of salmon and both were debacles. The greek salad had no feta and the greens consisted of a stalk of romaine drizzled with dressing and covered with other supposedly edible accoutrements. I asked my BFF who was with me and who is Greek if it was supposed to look like that and her retort consisted of words I cannot even type here lest I violate Yelp's terms of usage. The side salmon? Yeah, markedly undercooked. Both were sent back and I was asked if I wanted something else I bedrudgingly asked for the soup of the day which was a chicken and veggie soup. Well, the soup was tepid and the chicken chunks reminded me of the chicken Subway uses in their subs. Let me allow you to sit with that for a moment... Overall, a poor dining experience. I was initially charged for the salmon/salad but then the waitress realized her oversight and had it struck from the bill. Not saying I wont ever go back but I feel like the feel of the restaurant has changed significantly. The food seems a bit overpretentious to me. Oh, and the manager who came to apologize for the awful salad/salmon looked like a facilities guy. I felt he was dressed too casually to be the manager. read more

So after my last experience here I came back to give the place another chance. Big mistake. They got rid of the bar, which was a local landmark in itself being the oldest hand carved bar in America and they replaced it with cheap fake wanna be marble. They redecorated the place and it's all cheap and fake. The food is now rubber. This place used to be so good but apparently the owner saw a downhill direction to go in and took it. It's lost it's heart and soul. It's kinda tragic but this local landmark for so many years has died. read more

Alright Amrheins...three strikes and you're out! I used to be somewhat of a regular (once every month or so) for the Sunday Brunch until I was HORRIFIED by my last experience-bacon was tasteless and dredged in a pool of grease, eggs benedict was soggy and the yolk was completely cooked, and almost every chauffer was empty with still an hour to go for the turnover for lunch. I talked to several friends of mine recently about my experience and they reassured me that I wasn't the victim of a practical joke. They too have experienced much of the same/voiced similar complaints.This place has become consistantly .....bad! read more

We went this past Sunday for the brunch, and the food was either cold, or a total miss on taste. Unfortunate, considering the brunch is $25 per person. I have heard rumors they lost their chef, which may explain the issue. Please Amrheins, get back out their and find a great chef! I really like going here for drinks on a Sunday afterrnoon, or after work for a little bit. The food is good, but not great. Although in the fall the pumpkin raviolis are to die for! Not sure if they have them year round? I've never been unhappy with anything, but aside from the above mentioned meal, I've never left raving either. Newly remodeled. The food was as good as before the remodel. Menu seems a bit smaller. Very, very loud. Had to ask to be moved to the back room so that we could hear each other talk, and it was pretty loud back there also. Manager was very helpful. A co-worker recommended this place. I met some girl friends for brunch. It was easy to find and they have a parking lot! That was nice. I had some buffalo chicken tenders and were super salty but, all of my friends said their dishes were great. Our waitress was also very friendly and polite, the place was clean and the noise level was good. Prices are also reasonable. Delicious food, and I love the decor. The burgers are fairly standard, but the entrees stand out. The food is good comfort food in a more upscale setting. However, I went there for Valentine's with my sweetheart and I don't think the kitchen was prepared for the mad rush: the buffalo chicken dip was piping hot on the outside, but almost chilly on the inside, and the mashed potatoes were a little below room temperature. Still, the meatloaf was good (although they don't put veal in it anymore), and for some reason the fettucine alfredo that was served with the eggplant was PHENOMENAL. Maybe it was the cream sauce, maybe I was deliriously hungry, but either way I could've eaten a bucket full of it. read more

My husband and I were there last night 10/15/13. We used to go there a lot many years ago before it got Yuppified. The place has been nicely renovated. I had the Turkey dinner and my husband had the pork chop and we both had a really good sized bowl of NE Clam chowder which really should be called NE Potato Chowder. It was delicious but the clams must've walked through. The pieces of potato were larger then they should be and it really needed cracked pepper. The Turkey dinner was overly salty and the meat looked like it was thick sliced deli turkey not sliced off a freshly roasted bird. The gravy was MIA and the whole berry cranberry sauce was clearly from a can. Not sure if the veg was squash and turnip mixed or just turnip which I happen to like. I liked the real mashed potatoes but my husband did not. He was not happy with his pork chop but he ate the whole thing. He said it was also very salty which plays havoc with his blood pressure. Life long resident of Southie and I USED TO love Amrhein's. Went for Mother's day Brunch. The food was ok...not great just so-so. The service was really not good. I could understand if the restaurant was packed but there were only 5 tables filled in our section (which has 20 tables easy!). It took for ever to get our drinks (2 hot teas with milk, hot coffee (ordered with cream but never got the cream) and a diet soda....after we finished the first part of the meal all the drinks except for the soda came. My boyfriend filled out the omelet order form, which did not get picked up until the rest of the table was finished eating. We had to hunt for sugar, salt, and pepper. I have been here several times and the one thing I can said is Consistency! From the menu the the service to the food everything is consistent. I had the Lobster Mac & Cheese and my friend had the porterhouse. We split along with an app and enjoyed everything including a brownie sunday. The waitresses are all very friendly, and now recognize me and say hi even if they're not waiting on me because I go in there so often. Went about 2 days ago on a tip from are hotel manager they promptly picked us up in there shuttle service. The shuttle service is great friendly driver, funny guy got us there and back safely. But enough about the shuttle the decorations as you walk in where beautiful and the revitalized old wooden bar was just astonishing. As for the food goes me and my wife split a plate of the fried mozzarella balls which where delicious. Then I tried the Chicken Under Brick (wierd name) which took a little long but once it was on the table I couldn't get enough of it. My wife got the Parmesan Haddock she was delighted and couldn't finish it all due to the huge amount of food (its ok i enjoyed the midnight snack). The reason im giving it a 4 instead of a 5 was the chicken was a little long to cook but really good but other than that good food great service I will be back to eat here again!! read more

Brunch, oh glorious Brunch. At $20pp before tax and gratuity, I couldn't be more pleased. We arrived just before they opened, so waited a bit outside in line before being seated. We filled out a card for the omelette station (love that we didn't have to wait in line for that) and then went up to the long bar holding what was an incredible spread. Cinnamon-covered bananas, watermelon salad, tortellini salad (the best I've ever had?). My plate was full before I even got the the hot stuff. No worry, the waitress cleared my plate as soon as I was ready to tackle a hot breakfast. I tried a bite of nearly everything... the bbq wing and corned beef hash took the gold. My omelette was great, too. Just enough egg and goodies inside to give me omelettey goodness without taking over my plate. I could've passed on the mussels and calamari and sweet potato (which could've been better with a spicy or cinnamon-y dip, not just sour cream). I decided to take the plunge and have dessert, and I'm so grateful for the decision. I had strawberries and blueberries on a mini shortcake biscuit with what I assume to be fresh whipped cream, and then took a sliver of flourless chocolate cake just to try it. AMEN for just trying. I mixed bites of all these desserts, took my time, sipped my coffee, and decided it was the best part of the meal. In fact, maybe the most enjoyed dessert I've ever had out. Amerhein's missed an opportunity to sell me a bloody mary... there was no drink menu on the table and no mention of beverages other than those provided with the meal. I can imagine they'd make even more $$ on a Sunday morning with 4 or 5 signature brunch drinks tempting me while I wait for the waitress to come by and give me her blessing to stuff my face full of AYCE goodness. Came here with a groupon and loved the deal! Without a groupon, it is on the more expensive side for sure. The calamari was good, very unique with a Thai sweet chili sauce for dipping. My boyfriend got the scallops which were flavorless and I got a filet, which was very tender. The service was slow and drinks were weak, but the outside patio was a great spot for a summer evening. Greeted by the most apathetic hostess i think i have ever encountered followed by below par food. The alfredo was dry and massive clump of goo & the short ribs were the driest I have ever encounted and the portion was not at all as described on the menu. Our waitress was very attentive and did her best to assist. I wont be going back anytime soon. Amrhein's. The GOOD: parking next to the building is wonderful, bar is really nice, chowder was great Things to know: the neighborhood has changed a lot and it's less of a family place than I remember. We brought our kids and grandparents on a Sunday night and were a little out of place. They sat us near the kitchen, which makes sense since little kids can be loud, but it seems that it's more of a place for adults than families. They did have a high chair and crayons as well as a kids menu, but don't be surprised if you are the only ones there with children. I may go back, but with adults to the bar. The BAD: one entree came out cool and was sent back to be warmed up and I think the waitstaff didn't like us. Overall I'd say I wasn't impressed by Amrheins. I had purchased a Groupon because the menu looked pretty good, I've been dying to use it! I walk in and am immediately impressed by the size of this location we see the hostess who immediately tells us she can sit us but the kitchen is behind and we can't order food for 15 minutes..... nice lead in for first time guests. We then question about outside dining to which she went to check if anything was available. 5+ minutes later we see her come through the kitchen, talk with a few other staff members and then come back to the host station and tell us she can seat us outside but we will have to wait 10 minutes because of the kitchen being behind. Of course we thought this was ridiculous and offered to sit and not order anything but she blamed it on her manager who we then asked to speak to. He proceeded to tell us they would seat us in 5 that they needed to clear a table, making a lot more sense if that was the case. Finally we are sat grab some beers and place our order for dinner. I ordered the steak tips, garlic mashed and broccoli. While the steak tips were well marinated and had good flavor the sides were not good. They actually made and error and provided us the incorrect vegetable giving me the opportunity to try the corn, broccoli and garlic mashed. The garlic mashed was very thick and lacking in flavor. The broccoli tasted like low quality frozen veggies it was plain steamed - it even already started to brown. The corn was waterlogged. Probably not too overcooked to start but it had clearly been sitting in water for quite some time and retained that. In order to spend our groupon we ordered dessert to split chocolate chip cookie pie. It was literally like 3 peggy lawton cookies (yes market basket shoppers...) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some overly large puff pastry and whipped cream. I was far from impressed. Overall my biggest complaint is that the food is not worth what they're charging. $21 for steak tips would be well worth it if your sides were edible! read more

We went here for my brother's graduation dinner. It was fantastic. I'm honestly shocked to see it only has 3.5 stars on Yelp, I would have thought this was an easy 5 Stars after the meal we just had! Every single dish we tried (group of 7 and we all got totally different entrees) was DELICIOUS!! Not a single thing I would change about any of the food we had - everything was perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Super generous portions of the seafood, no skimping on the lobster in the lobster ravioli, and the mussels appetizer was soooooooo good! That sauce was to die for. On top of the excellent food, the service was great. They ran out of scallops and two of our party had to change their order as a result, which was fine with us, but they comped our appetizers totally unprompted anyway! The manager came over to apologize in person. Such an unexpected and generous gesture, we were all very impressed. Unfortunately I don't live in Massachusetts so I don't know when I'll be back, but I wish I could go here for every special event dinner. I cannot stress enough how wonderful our food was.
