Met Back Bay is amazing! My review is a bit skewed as I am solely basing it off the hot chocolate flights, but boy what a treat! The restaurant is two floors - it has a nice bar downstairs that wasn't too crowded on a Saturday afternoon. The hot chocolate flights can be spiked or not spiked - depending on your preference! I chose the spiked option and was not disappointed! Personally, the peppermint candy cane and smores hot chocolates were my favorite, but all were delicious! One option tasted like spiked eggnog - the other had a delicious churro on top with a white chocolate base. I will say, I recommend going hungry because these are VERY filling. The only bit of slight negative feedback is the service - it is rather slow but we did not mind whatsoever - we preferred to relax with our drinks. If you're in a rush, you may have some issues, but nothing crazy. P.S. the flights are very instagramable if you're looking for that! read more

Stopped here for lunch after watching the boston marathon and had a great experience. The design is a split building with the main dinning room on the top floor and a large bar with a small accompanying bar on the bottom half. They also have a nice outdoor dinning area. We ate at the smaller bar and had a great bartender as our server. Plenty of Beer, wine, and drink selections. Food wise we got the calamari to start which was fresh and served with an awesome chipotle dipping sauce, make sure you get extra cause its that good. For my meal i got the fish and chips which was great. Fish was a fresh white cod and was fried in a nice beer batter. Fries were very yummy and i would assume house cut. I've only been here once, and only for brunch, with a party of three which limits my experience with the menu, but I can say that all three dishes were really good, as were the ones I watched go past me to another table as I second guessed my first choice. However, I have to say the California Hen House Hash was creative and delicious. A skillet of potatoes, onions and cheese covered with avocado and fried egg. The biscuits and Nutella French toast were equally as good. We were seated in the lounge immediately during prime brunch hours, which is a very nice change from floating in a virtual online queue for hours. Service was prompt and friendly, the facility is clean and nicely decorated. The menu looks really inventive so I'll definitely be back. read more

After coming back for that Breakfast Carbonara, I'm updating my review to say Met Back Bay has earned a straight 4/5 stars! I could eat that Carbonara for days ... so creamy and cheesy - you can't stop even if you wanted to. You'll be like "I'm full" but find yourself with another forkful of pasta in your mouth. Get your reservation in though, this is a poppin' brunch spot! I also came in for a bite one night after work. The Boy and I grabbed 2 seats by the bar. They have daily deals and Monday night is $5 burgers so we both ordered the Mexico City burger topped with jack cheese, jalapenos, guacamole, cilantro, fire-charred salsa. We also ordered Buffalo Wings. These were large wings, but they were also connected - so the flats and the drumsticks you had to separate yourself. My one gripe is I wish they came split because it's difficult enough to pick up a pipin' hot wing but to have to split them is just an extra difficulty. read more

As part of our festive tour of Boston this past Christmas, we wanted to include a warm treat and saw that Hot Chocolate Flights were highlighted at the Met Back Bay. We called and made reservations a few weeks in advance since we were a large group. That was no problem and we were excited for the chocolate adventure to come, but we had a change in our group number and had to make a second call to update reservation. We were then told that they didn't take reservations and that whomever we talked to was wrong to put the reservation in. Despite our misgivings and the somewhat disconcerting conversation, we decided to still go and try our luck getting a seat since it was a weekday. We arrived and were told we did have a reservation (confusing, but understandable if they've recently seen staffing changes and need to update everyone on the current policy) and were seated right away. Everything was going smoothly until we tried to put in our order for the hot chocolate flights. There are four different flavors including Classic, Pumpkin, Peppermint, and Coconut. Some in our group wanted all four flavors, but others wanted only a couple of flavors. We asked if we could order flights with the same number of drinks, but switch up the flavors. Our server didn't know and asked the manger. The manager rushed by and abruptly told us no. She didn't explain why or even ask if there were any dietary issues. I'm not sure if it was something in how they make the flights or if the kitchen can't customize orders since they are holiday specials. For a moment of her time, the manager could have let us know why the flights couldn't be adjusted instead of brushing us off. All in all, the flights were delicious. You could 'Liquor them up' and add different types of spirits to the drink. The presentation was great and we ordered some seasonal cookies just to add a bit more sugar to the equation! Good brunch menu. Avocado toast is delicious and as it was served on a wooden plank instead of a plate, the bread did not get soggy from the plate sweating. This place is great for lunch or dinner! The waiters are very nice. They are always attentive and very nice. The food is awesome and the rice bowl is incredible! They also have amazing salads and fish. It is a bit pricey but the food is very good and worth it. Beware the chicken parmigiana! It is meant for 3+ people and it is an enormous piece of chicken that you cannot possibly finish alone. The bathrooms are also very clean. Went for the flatbread Sunday and let me just say, I'm very into a good flatbread! This was more just pizza, a thicker/chewier flatbread rather than thin and crisp but still very very tasty!! It was nice to have the privacy, as no one else joined the room during our meal, but the larger open area with windows looking over Newbury Street would have been nicer. I would recommend asking for seating with windows. The service was quick, not a lot of waiting as we were the only people in our area. What a nice surprise! I didn't have much expectations coming in to Met Back Bay. Seemed like most of the reviews were either really high or really low. Well folks, I'm going with the high! We came here for a late dinner and were seated at the Library Bar. Nice little area that wasn't too loud and we could still hear each other We decided to share 3 plates which was just enough for the 3 of us! -LOADED fries. Let me tell you.. these were definitely loaded. We didn't actually see them on the menu, but my friend saw a picture on yelp and they were happy to serve it to us. SO much on it! Cheese, hamburger patty, green onions, mayo, lots and lots of cheese, a fried egg on top! The fries were just ok. By the time we got ate all the toppings and got to the middle/bottom of the dish where the fries were just plain, they were pretty oily.. Good thing we had leftover pasta sauce to dip it in! These were good, but not awesome so I think I'd pass -BRUSSEL SPROUTS mmmmm! It's small, but pretty packed. They serve it 2 ways: roasted and shaved with spicy caesar. I've recently found a love for brussel sprouts and this dish totally reinforced it! -Short rib gnocchi with brown butter squash, brussel sprouts, and pecorino. OMG I'm a huge fan of this one!! We got the half order for $14 but we all wished we got the full order. Everything about it was delicious. The gnocchi was so tender, the butternut squash had the perfect sweetness, of course the brussel sprouts were nicely roasted and seasoned, and the sauce brought it all together. After seeing sporadic pictures of these insane bloody Mary's popping up on my social media feeds every so often, I figured it was finally time to try one of my own (mostly for the instagram pic duh). It was by far the best part of our meal today. We made reservations 24 hours in advance and there was limited availability but we were seated immediately when we arrived. The seats were amazingly comfy and the atmosphere was cool but cozy. We ordered our drinks (bloody with all the fixings) but we're disappointed that it took just as long to get our drinks as it did to get our meals. They were delivered at the exact same time which was a bummer. No time to sip and enjoy them before getting to our meal. One of us got the mini slider on the bloody and another got the JUMBO shrimp. Both were worth the $5 add on price. I recommend adding met sauce to your bloody. The entrees were all impressive. The madame croque sandwich was flavorful but sophisticated with a delicious sauce, smokey ham and plenty of melty gruyere cheese. The truffle fries were the perfect compliment. The pork stuffed hash brown was good also. The jalapeño hollandaise sauce was definitely the highlight of the dish. read more

Although Met Back Bay's patio is located along Newbury Street, their actual entrance is located on Dartmouth Street. Stairs go up for the dining room, down for the lounge. An elevator is available - just ask if you need it. As this was a Boston Dine Out visit, I had the opportunity to dine out on 3 courses for $20 for a weekday lunch. At Met, however, you only received their Restaurant Week menu upon request, so I felt a bit "in the know" as every other party around me seemed to have ordered their meals off the regular menu. That, however, was the only bit of special I felt on this outing. I doubt it was because I was a singleton diner among parties of 2+ on this visit. It may had been because I had ordered a meal deal (as Dine Out may rightly be considered) and had decided to stick with just water. It could also had been that I had over did it a bit with my doggybagging (but I hate waste, and also have been trying hard to not let it all go to my waist...). But unfortunately, I also suspect it may just be their norm. While Met is a place that will make everything from scratch, except perhaps a few sauces (as mentioned by my server) and may change decorations with the seasons, it seemed to me that Met as a whole is a bit lackluster, lacking a certain attention to detail and quality control. It was 8 minutes after I had placed my order that water was poured for me as my server let me know that the freezer was broken, so there would be no ice cream with my blueberry pie. This made me sad. Pie seems plain without ice cream, and the alternate RW dessert was a sundae, so that was not available as well. I asked, and she confirmed that whipped cream was do-able. It was another 8 minutes before the appetizer - Corn & Bacon Cakes, fried sunny egg, tomato jam, summer cress was set before me on a circular wooden board. The presentation was nice and the portion generous with two cakes hidden beneath the fried egg blanket. The cakes were not quite corny or bacony enough, seeming like breakfast pancakes mostly, but the tomato jam and the liquid gold yolk raised it all to another level. But I had another two courses to go, so I left the majority of the 2nd pancake uneaten. The Blue Crab Burger, old bay mayo, smashed avocado, bacon, griddled English muffin arrived with a metal tin of unmentioned potato chips (nicely crispy, yet not overly salty), but without the listed smashed avocado. But with or without the fatty green fruit (a serving was brought to me to remedy the situation), this was one good sandwich. It was not your typical Thomas' English muffin, and the patty was crabmeat with little filler. My water glass sat empty upon my table as I finished my sandwich. Another server filled the water glasses at the table directly across from mine as I watched thirstily and came to the realization that each of the occupied tables around me had a water pitcher left on it... with the exception of mine. But my glass was later filled, and dessert arrived - Warm Blueberry Pie, vanilla ice cream, blueberry sauce. Except it wasn't warm, and there was no ice cream. The replacement whipped cream was dolloped generously on top of the whole individually portioned pie. But I had requested the whipped cream on the side since I had completely decimated the burger and so I was sure that I wouldn't be able to finish the dessert. The pie itself was quite good with a nice crust and tasty filling. But 8 minutes seems to be a trend here, as it was another 8 minutes after I was done with dessert that I was able to get the bill. My lunch hour ended up taking an hour and 10 min, and that's without travel time. Perhaps Met is paced more for those who dine with time to spare. When I left, the two people at the host stand were busy talking with each other, and so neither bade me a fare thee well. Sad to say, I was not the least bit surprised. 3 stars *** 9/2018 *** Dinner on a Monday night? Let's finally give Monday Burger Night at the MET downstairs bar a try! $4.99 each for Five ounces served on a sesame seed bun, with a choice of 3 options. We both ended up going with the THE MANHATTAN BURGER Swiss Cheese, Sautéed Onions, Bacon, Mushrooms. Mine with the mushrooms on the side. Me because of the sauteed onions, my DC because of the bacon. Both burgers arrived medium well as requested, with fries on the side and a side of ketchup. Burger patty plump, bacon (2 slices) crisp, onions oozing out. We seem to always come here for our "team dinners" when we gather folk from across NA and are in Boston. It's average in price range given the location and I'd give it 3.5 starts overall. Location is fantastic and in the heart of Copley Square, nice decor, always packed, has a decent bar scene downstairs. However, if you are eating with a group of 6 or more - I would not recommend their large booths. It's just awkward when being served, clearing the tables, people getting in and out. The layout/design just isn't smart. Anyway, onto the food. The chicken parm was huge and could easily feed 3-4 people. It's pounded so flat and tasty, but wow it is so large. I shared the seafood tower and would definitely recommend that given the price - 6 oysters, lobster was delicious, and shrimps were large. That was definitely a 4.5 start meal. The other folks had the steak, French onion soup, Calamari (not bad), Lobster mac and cheese (yummy, but it's mostly mac not so much lobster). Overall, you can't beat the price and quantity if you are on a budget. It's still generic "American" food with ok taste, but this place won't wow you with uniqueness or fantastic flavors if you get my drift. We sat outside and enjoyed the patio. First the food and environment then a consumer seat placement warning. The upper patio was perfect for the hot and humid weather. It looks really nice. There is a street level small patio and steps down to a lower basement level sheltered patio. It's very nice and attractive. This is the best part and then we sat down and quickly moved (see below). Once we relocated we ordered wine, the wine pour was incredibly small. Order a bottle if you can do it. There are gluten free options, so of course I ordered the gluten free pasta with garlic and olive oil and parmigiana cheese. It was overly salted but edible because the chicken was thankfully good. My side order of broccoli was cold but not overly salty. There was fluid at the bottom of the bowl so I'm sure they microwave it. My friends burger, from the menu is only the burger and just a burger with cheese and fries. No tomato, no lettuce. Seriously? It's a $15.00 burger the toppings should be free. My other friend ordered the chopped salad at the waitress's recommendation. I was so happy I didn't order it. They served deli meat on it with iceberg lettuce. It didn't look appetizing but she said it's "ok, good". THEN I went inside. No way would I come back. The bar that you walk through for the restroom has a moldy smell. People didn't seem to mind but I did! Back to my consumer advisory. Beware of where you sit on the patio. There is a drain pipe that sticks out from the building next door and hits the table for four to the right directly on the seat to the right against the wall on the upper street level patio when you first enter. My friend was the unlucky one, gross. She screamed got up and we moved to the new table then the hostess just cleaned it and sat other people who luckily didn't get the outpouring of an overflow. Not the best start but it was clean water. That should have been the warning we needed but unfortunately we were not deterred. We stayed to dine anyway. Big mistake. I'd never go back. The waitress was a little too snooty and checked only once then needed to be flagged down for the rest of the meal. Not ok. I had planned going to a different place but my friend wanted to try it. We came to Met Back Bay on a Monday evening, it was surprisingly busy but there were a lot of conferences happening so there was an influx of people. The top was full so we went downstairs which is open seating (tables and bar). The service was slower than usual (my sister frequents here and said it's always faster), we're thinking they were caught by surprise. For starters we shared the half dozen oysters. Those were on the smaller side but still delicious! We also had the buttermilk biscuits with the maple butter. The biscuits looked and smelled like home -- definitely a must (who doesn't love warm bread and melted butter???). As an entree I had the kale salad with green goddess dressing and the met rice bowl with ahi tuna. My mom and I split the salad so they put it in two bowls for us at no extra charge. This was really good. The rice bowl with tuna was okay. I asked for more of the sauce they put on it because there's quite a bit of rice that doesn't have much flavor. Overall I give it a 4/5 with the food/service combo. They do have weekend brunch so I would like to come back and try that. read more

Sunday brunch- mmmm,mmmm,mmmm met some friends there and had a great time! I could not decide what to have because everything looked soooo good! Everyone had different burgers: Kobe, LA and Paris and I had the shaved ham and cheese sandwich. Sounds so simple but it was great. If you order the Tokyo burger they donate the proceeds to Japan I was told by the way. Ok so what we ordered was not really brunch food but the menu made it really hard to choose. Some of the stuff on the menu just sounded incredibly good and from the looks of it from other peoples' plates around us: they were! The place is really nice inside and it looks like they have space for outside seating although it was not open just yet. Ordered a freshly squeezed orange juice and cappuccino too. I later noticed that they had guava juice to make mimosas with! Too bad I was so full to try it but impressive to me. Not normal to find guava anything north of 33016. Great location in Back Bay! We ventured into Met to grab a bite during an impromptu Saturday night Pub Crawl. Grabbed a spot at the bar, as the Outdoor seating was all taken up, given the gorgeous weather. We ordered some Stellas and kicked back a few. The bar had pairs of attractive women sitting around, sitting martinis. Seems like a good place to meet late 20s or early 30s girls, if that's what you're looking for. The menu isn't huge, but I'm told they do an amazing burger. We settled on splitting the Loaded Fries. The appetizers don't appear to be the size you'd get at your average chain restaurant. I can split fries and nachos with someone and be completely full at a Chilis or Fridays. Since the Met is a bit more upscale, portions were smaller. The fries were first rate! Hand cut fries, with layers of melted cheese. Topped with a cut up burger and a fried egg. Really good! I wish I had ordered one just for me though. Would have been perfect! :) Wait staff was SUPER friendly. There were a lot of people working there, so it wasn't hard to get service. I noticed a guy who appeared to be a manager or owner, walking around. He kicked back a few glasses of Johnny Walker. I thought that strange that he'd be drinking, while on the job. A very nice guy though. I forgot to add... THE MUSIC. Whatever playlist they had going, it certainly catered to my age group. It's not the 21 crowd. I think it's more for people who are bit more established in their career and looking for a great spot. The music was a HUGE plus. It was a lot of popular songs, and saw a lot of girls singing along. What a disappointment: bland food and bad service. Definitely wasted my time and money. Came here on a Thursday afternoon and was practically dead. We got sat immediately but didn't have any utensils. Looked around and the five 5 empty tables near us all had utensils. Our waiter came over and filled out water and didn't say a word. Got short rib tacos as an appetizer, still no utensils. I had to call our server to finally get some. Bland, nothing special. Got the brick chicken frites as an entree. Stopped in for brunch this past Sunday and this location was crazy busy. Luckily, we had a reservation and it was honored even though we were a little late. With all the choices for brunch on Newbury, we chose this place to fulfill my daughter's chocolate craving with the awesome Hot Chocolate Experience. Each little hot chocolate cup was decorated with something different. Marshmallows on one, almond biscotti in another, cinnamon stick in yet another and a candy cane for the last one. It was a dream for the birthday girl. Also, despite their mediocre 3 star ratings, I will vouch for their falafel burgers here. I've been on the prowl for a restaurant to make a decent, moist falafel wrap or sandwich and I must say, it was quite delish. Course, making it Paris style with a fried egg, cheese, caramelized onions and truffle mayo would up the WOW factor on any burger. The only thing that could've possibly made that burger taste even better is if they toasted the wheat bun. Otherwise, it's one of the tastiest veggie burgers I've had in a while. Highly recommended. My friends and I do brunch at the Met every time we are in Boston. They place is trendy and beautifully decorated. For inside seating make a reservation to ensure you'll have a table, otherwise the outside patio is first come first serve. I personally love the salmon flatbread, and my friends always get the breakfast carbonara, which they cannot day enough good things about! If you go in the winter they have flights of hot chocolate that are incredibly cute and aesthetically please for those looking for a good Instagram picture. Otherwise the Bloody Mary bar is our go to. You can get all sorts or crazy additions to you Bloody Mary, such as, cheeseburgers, oysters, meat and cheese cubes and much more. We tried this spot out on a Saturday for brunch and yum! We showed up around noon with no reservation and were lucky enough to snag a table in their upstairs seated dinning area. I ordered a "design your own bloody mary" - which is pretty cool. You can choose your own toppings (like bacon or a slider, etc), hot sauce type, type of alcohol etc. Pretty fun! Although, I would recommend knowing what you like -- as a novice bloody mary drinker, I wasn't 100% sure what I liked - so it was hard to choose. We also shared the biscuits, which were super good. They were warm, flaky, and tasted fresh. I loved the honey butter that was served with the biscuits. Yum. For my main entree, I ordered the avocado toast with a fried egg. This dish was beautifully plated and absolutely delicious. I would recommend and would definitely order this again. Definitely cute enough to throw on your IG too. Coffee is mediocre, wouldn't recommend or get again. Overall, I enjoyed this spot and loved the food. I would definitely return and would recommend. Great drinks, awesome appetizers, nice decor. I've only been to the lower section, most often waiting for saltie girl (there's a secret tunnel that connects them!) But it's been great. I'm a huge fan of their nachos and truffle fries to accompany their decent beer selection. I went on taco Tuesday and got some delicious tacos - 3 for 6 is a good deal in my book! Came here with another couple, we waited for 30 minutes and got a good table outside. *this was the brunch menu on Saturday at 1pm* - Salmon Flatbread: 5/5, good for sharing, tasted amazing. - Nutella French Toast: 5/5, we asked to split it in 2 so we could share. Perfect as dessert for even 3-4 people. - Eggplant Caprese: 4/5, vegetarian friend enjoyed it. Mozzarella wasn't great. Drinks: BB Slam(?) - peach puree, vodka, mint - 5/5, not too sweet, perfectly strong. Back Bay Mule - 5/5, exceeded expectations. On the sweeter side. Cafe Royale - 5/5, cold coffee cocktail in tall glass. Coffee kick with whiskey. All of us tried it and loved it. Our waiter Philip(/Filip?) was super attentive and helpful so 5/5 on service as well! I enjoyed a dinner with my boyfriend at the Met back bay. We went on a Thursday night at 7pm and it was pretty full. The waiter was very nice and gave good food & drink recommendations. He gave us a heads up that we were ordering way too much food, but we took the challenge anyways (...and failed... but thats what take-away is for!). Overall this was a pleasant dinner, and all the food was yummy. It is a bit on the pricey side but so is anything on Newbury street! Based on pictures of the restaurant, I think the Met is best for brunch, so I'll definitely be back for that! Below is some more information about the menu items we ordered! Chicken Parm (MASSIVE): This ranks pretty high up there in my ranking of chicken parm restaurants. The edges are nice and crunchy while the middle is rich with a generous amount cheese. I really enjoyed it! The only downside is that it doesn't come with pasta, but it's already a ridiculous amount of food so that's okay. 1 person can DEFINITELY not finish this - I would recommend sharing between 2-4 people! Truffled Mushroom & Asparagus Flatbread: This is very rich with cheese, mushrooms, and egg. It was delicious! I had tried this flatbread before a few months ago and was craving it recently, which was what brought me to the Met in the first place. It wasn't AS amazing as I had remembered it, but it was still totally delicious. I could have eaten just half the flatbread and been perfectly satisfied for a meal. Basil No. 2: My boyfriend really liked this cocktail. To me it was a bit strong, but for people who like tequila and not-too-sweet cocktails, it probably is perfect! I came here for an event. We were seated in the little alcove upstairs and I found it to be a very warm and accomodating environment. Service was also extremely friendly and efficient. I thought the food was fantastic, starting with the salad which was super fresh, crunchy, and served with a variety of sweet toppings that I felt really brought out the tartness of the dressing. I ordered the seared salmon although I was unsure what 'served sushi style' meant. Basically, they serve the seared salmon over a block of rice and seaweed, topped with roe and served with some sesame oil and soy sauce. It was actually really delicious, especially if you love sushi! The winner of the night was the dessert, hands down. I ordered the blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream. The blueberry pie was a personal-sized and each bite was chock full of blueberries. I went home with a very happy belly! read more

I had the jumbo shrimp scampi with the calamari as an appetizer, everything was ok really nothing to write home about. The shrimp could have been sautéed a little bit more, if at all. It's definitely enough to for two but not if you're really hungry. We also had a pitcher of the sangria which was the best thing we ordered. A friend and I ended up trying this spot out when Saltie Girl next store was full and we didn't have time to wait. Unfortunately the cell reception was kinda crappy so I wasn't able to yelp it prior to going in but we were in a rush and this place didn't seem like it had a wait. While we were sitting I ended up being able to yelp it and noticed it only had three stars, I was disappointed and didn't want to get my hopes up for the food. I ended up only getting the mussel app and a cocktail since we were going to go to a party after for food, we wanted to get a few apps to nibble on and catch up on our lives. The mussels were fresher than expected to my surprise. The garlic sauce that the mussels were drenched in was creamy and buttery, the perfect sauce to dip with the french bread slices that accompanied the mussel dish. The sauce also gave the mussels some moisture and flavor. Honestly, I was not disappointed, I fairly enjoyed the dish. Summary: This will perhaps be a place for me to keep in mind in the future for apps and drinks. Note: The service during my visit was average. It was not slow by any means, I feel as though the foods and drinks came out on an acceptable pace for a Saturday night. The server checked up on us fairly often. read more

I came here tonight to specifically try the hot chocolate flight, but also had dinner. The restaurant itself is located very close to the Prudential Center. I had the steak tips with egg and hash and it was delicious!!! Not a bite was left. For dessert of course I had the hot choc flight-- 4 small glasses of hot choc (traditional, white chocolate peppermint, espresso and salted caramel). The best was espresso. It was a fun holiday treat! The only downside of tonight was the service seemed a bit off- our waiter forgot to refill drinks and forgot to bring out one of the flights of hot chocolate. Hopefully it was just a fluke because I would go back to try brunch. read more

Not to mention the Bloody Mary bar is insane you get to pick anything you want off if a list to put on top of your Bloody Mary.
