Stopped in for dinner one evening. I ordered BBQ Platter with Balsamic Salad and Asparagus (an additional charge) as my sides. The waitress was friendly and served us reasonably quickly. The food tasted good, but the portions were very small. There was a lot of empty space on my plate when it was brought to me. The barbeque was just meat on a plate. It was enough to fill a sandwich with some left over. Except since there was no bread and just meat, it wasn't a whole lot. The asparagus that I paid extra for consisted of 7 spears of asparagus. If it was the normal asparagus the diameter of your finger it wouldn't have been so bad. But this was immature asparagus, the diameter of a straw. I was like, "Really? I paid extra for the equivalent of 2 spears of normal asparagus?" Asparagus is not THAT expensive, and immature asparagus costs even less. If you're going to charge extra, you should at least provide enough to make the customer feel like they got their money's worth. And provide healthy mature spears. The Balsamic Salad came in the same size plastic condiment cup as the barbeque sauce. In other words, it was about 2 forkfuls of food. Or one table spoon. It was tasty and I would have liked a realistic portion. But 2 forkfuls is not very satisfying. All in all, the food tasted good, but I've seen kids meals served for lunch with more food than I received for a dinner portion. It was a $9.00 meal that cost me $17.00. Let me start by saying I really, really wanted to like this place. It's close to home, it's a small business and I enjoy patronizing my local economy, and it has a casual, unpretentious atmosphere. Unfortunately, those might be the only good things I can say about this place. Our server was attentive and friendly, sure, but she put in our dinner order right after our appetizer order, and we'd barely had a chance to settle into our nachos (maybe two minutes) before our entrees arrived. And the nachos... what can I say? Eleven dollars for some chips, some cheese sauce that tasted like it came out of a jar, a few diced tomatoes, some jalapenos that most certainly came out of a jar, and a random handful of lettuce on top. I just didn't understand it. Then our entrees... again, it's just so disappointing. My friend ordered the country fried steak with veggies and potatoes. He reported that his food tasted like dish water. He let me try his mashed potatoes, and it tasted as if the potatoes had not been scrubbed before they were cooked. Then my food: I got the crabcake sandwich with fries. The bun? From a bag. The crabcake? The tiniest shreds of crab. No lumps to be found. I suspect it was previously frozen. And the fries were most certainly frozen, as they tasted and smelled of freezer burn. We both left plenty of food on our plates and declined boxes to go. The worst part was feeling cheated when we received our bill of nearly forty dollars. For that much, we could have headed to Kybecca or Miso or Peter Chang. I really, really wanted to like this place. I don't even think I'd give it another try, unless they completely revamped their menu to focus on freshness. Tl:dr? Found this place by accident. Looked interesting. Started off great. The vegetable soup of the day was truly superior and accompanied by a delightful and delicious mini corn muffin. I was happy that the vegetarian options featured a few choices and decided to test out the falafel wrap. The fries were wrinkle cut and cooked nicely. However, my wrap had onions on it, which I specifically requested be left off. This is a pet peeve for me. As I waited for a remake, I noted that other tables were having to flag down waiters. Ok this is my third shot at this place. I had a healthy veggie omelet. Thomas the waiter seemed like he was high energy which made us feel rushed. My potatoes were cold and my husband never got his biscuit so I gave him mine. Also, he brought me a second mimosa which I didn't order. This place is kind of hidden...it's a little off the main road. My husband happened to glance over and see it, and we stopped in last weekend and got a to-go menu. We got take-out from them tonight. They don't have a whole lot for vegetarians. They have a possible black bean dip appetizer (not sure if it's veggie or not), nachos, a possible potato soup, house salad, an egg-salad sandwich, and a veggie burger. The 2 sandwiches come with one side, which include fries, potato salad, slaw, pasta salad. cottage cheese, and chips. We both got house salads and veggie burgers. We were both happy with the food (although they forgot his side of pasta salad). Hubby said both times he has been inside the place, there was maybe ONE occupied table. That's sad. Oh, and they serve breakfast too. Lots of veggie options there. I think we will try it next weekend for breakfast. read more

Been in the area for 5 months and I drive by Amy's on a regular basis. It only seemed logical to give it a shot...bad idea. The building was nice on the way inside. Inside, however, is a mess with no theme that I could discern. Service took a while and our waitress, though well-meaning, forgot about my wife and I after we asked for an extra minute to review the menu. My wife ordered the potato soup and sandwich. The soup was white in color so maybe Amy's thinks that's potato soup? A concerning amount of crunchy onions, terribly cooked potato, gross chunks of ham(?????) no cheese, no bacon, and no cream. I don't want to know how they got the broth-water to turn white. BLT was a joke. I got the chicken fingers and waffle. Luckily the chicken fingers are frozen and not homemade....they were your standard diner chicken fingers. Waffle was a waffle, cooked well,though. I'm giving the place two stars because the waitress did the right thing and took my wife's "soup and sandwich" off the bill (unsolicited) and tried to make it better by giving her the broccoli and cheese soup. A very nice gesture but no better. On exiting the building the kitchen staff were smoking their cigs right on the side of the building where patrons park. Made me question what the kitchen looks like. I really hope this place gets it together because it could be great for locals. A real shame. read more

Granted I've only been here for breakfast but I go often and usually get quick service. Outside patio is great for good weather, but the outside service isn't as good. I personally think the service has improved in the year I've been going here. This is a quaint neighborhood restaurant, not a chain establishment- I think other reviews are being a bit harsh considering Amy's is a bit dive-y. I agree it's a little expensive though. The quality of food is great and homemade. I've never experienced any odors of smoke in the morning. read more

Cute place but horribly slow service. The food was totally mediocre.

I like Amy's. It is a great place for kids because they have a toy box. They had a free Halloween party in 2009 for kids, with games and pumpkin carving (free pumpkins!) and it was a lot of fun. I have had a couple misses here, like one time I ordered an appetizer that was suggested to me without asking the price, and I got a tiny cup of it for more than the price of my sandwich. And we went to a holiday brunch once that was too pricey for what it was. But I always feel welcomed, I like the food, and they have a full bar which is great. I love that the sandwiches come with a deviled egg! I will keep going back to Amy's! read more

Got the special which was fish and chips, fish was undercooked and had to be sent back. Got a new order and batter was extremely salty and still undercooked. French fries were actually frozen brand that you can by in any grocery store. Service subpar and we barely saw our waitress. Left restaurant and all you could smell outside in parking lot was there dumpster obviously this is not what you want to smell after eating. I will not be going back to this establishment. read more

Went there for breakfast. Missed it by 5 minutes, and waitress said that there was no way we could order breakfast, because "the cooks switch the kitchen around"... Strike one... Nice way to accommodate your customers. Since I was craving bacon, I went ahead and ordered a BLT. Toast of BLT was so hard, it scrapped the roof of my mouth - must have left over bread from breakfast... My wife ordered a Bloody Mary and a club sandwich - drink tasted like watered down ketchup and same issue with the bread, so hard it hurt the roof of her mouth. Nothing special! The food was very basic. I had an open faced roast beef sandwich and they had not bothered to heat up the roast beef. The fries were just crinkle fries, like the ore Ida kind you buy at the grocery store. The burger was just ok. The food took a very long time and then after she gave us the check we sat waiting until my husband eventually took it inside to her. They up charge a dollar for sweet potato fries which is ok but there was only a small handful on the plate. A friend had highly recommended Amy's, so when visitors arrived from out-of-state, and since we were visiting Gari Melchor's Belmont and Washington's Ferry Farms last Sunday, I was excited about checking out Amy's. I was so embarrassed and disappointed! Service was TERRIBLE!! We waited for a table in the heated porch area to be cleared, but after a considerable wait, we opted for a table inside the main part of the restaurant. We then had to wait for that table to be wiped--at our request, and after sitting down, we again had to wait/ask for menus, then for forks, et al, and after food arrived we had to ask for salt/pepper, and then for butter for toast (which was not buttered), and for additional cream for coffee--only then to realize that we had no stirrers or spoons for coffee! When we asked for a spoon, we received a tall soda spoon that was delivered rahter unceremoniously. Food, however, was very good. FYI, we counted seven waitresses AND a sweet but hapless receptionist; since we arrived at the end of breakfast, there was no crowd to explain disarray or delay. read more

I think people forget that mom and pop places can't afford to have a lot of waitresses/waiters standing around doing nothing, ours was running around with like a chicken with her head cut off the whole time. A group of us decided to have lunch at Amy's Cafe on a Wednesday (yesterday). There were 8 of us. We thought it was good when we were seated quickly and drink order taken right away. Soon after, the food order was taken. Then we sat.. and sat... and sat.. for 45 mins before we flagged down someone to check on our food. Server never came by. She shows up 5 mins after that to say it will be 'soon'. Soon = 30 mins more. Food was served cold. Orders were wrong. My parents go here all the time and always rave about it, but I don't see why. Cold food, wrong orders, and an hour and a half wait for food is no reason to come here. I'll pass on Amy's from now on. read more

We've been to Amy's for dinner 3 times in the past 2 months. Each time we have received wonderful service & the food has been excellent (honestly, the catfish is absolutely amazing -- I'd go back just to order that!!!). Our food was very tasty and even though they were very busy and it came out promptly . Mary our server was excellent she made our evening even better.
