The drinks were colorful and made well. We loved the tableside guacamole, and it was made perfect perfectly. It was a large amount which was great. The sample platter had a good amount to choose from and our favorite was the quesadilla because the chicken was seasoned well and had good flavor to it. The chicken vegetable soup also had great flavor to it, and it did not need extra salt, which is always a plus. The fajitas were delicious as well and had a great amount of protein and veggies. The tacos were flavorful, but I do wish that there was some kind of salsa to put on them. The enchiladas weren't anything special, but I would definitely order them again as I really enjoyed the sauce. The coconut ice cream that came with the churros was refreshing. We were in McKinney for my granddaughter's guitar recital so we stopped in to pick up food for dinner and took it "to go." We placed our order and then sat in the bar area while we waited for our food to be prepared and packaged up. The tables in the bar area were very comfortable and they even brought us some chips and hot sauce while we waited. Love the neon sign behind the bar "Pick Your Poison." I failed to take any photos of our food once we got to my son's house but several of us really enjoyed the Cowboy entree. It comes with a brisket taco, beef enchilada and a tamale, along with rice. These enchiladas were perfectly made, The con-carne and cheese toppings were delicious. The soft cheese taco offering shows they are authentic tex-mex recipes. My first visit was recent, when I attended a small and intimate baby shower dinner here. I was immediately greeted by the hostess and shown to the table. Even though I was the first of 10 to arrive, I was quickly asked what I'd like to drink and within moments of sitting down the table was set with chips and salsa (everyone got their own!). Our waitress did a great job. She was patient as we all decided what we wanted, attended to a guest who arrived late and was great about providing each of us separate checks. Our drinks were all kept full, they never even reached empty. Everyone ordered something different and everything looked really good. The portions were decent, none of us were left hungry. I chose the Fish Tacos (Del Mar portion). The fish was cooked very well and the cabbage was seasoned well. The aioli was sparse so I ended up pulling out most of the cabbage to actually taste it. The rice was prepared well and tasted good too. I didn't try the beans, although they looked good. For $14.95 I was pleased. If an Anamia's opened near me I'd definitely go, but wouldn't drive 25min like I did for this visit. read more

***BEWARE***I don't normally leave reviews unless it was exceptional or important. I had just gotten a new debit card and used only at this place and later that night I received a fraud alert. Someone using my number tried to charge $500. The restaurant was about to close so I called to speak to manager. He said he took it seriously and would call me the next morning. Never called back. I called and spoke to general manager the next day and she completely denied the possibility that the waitress would've done anything like this. Usually I would have used multiple places and not knowing where this could've happened but it was my first time using. I had just activated before leaving the house. Food and ambiance is fine! If you sit in the bar area good luck getting service. This has happened numerous times. Arrived on a Friday around 3:00, sat in the bar. Restaurant was not busy at all. Waited over 30 minutes just for someone to give us a menu, and that someone was eating a meal close by. Another 25 minutes for our drink order to be taken. Unacceptable! I was so glad when I saw this Anamia's was close to my apartment when I moved to the area this past summer! I used to eat at Anamia's growing up, so this is my comfort Mexican restaurant for sure. My fiancé and I celebrated our first night in town by coming here and enjoyed everything we ordered. The chicken fajitas are some of the best he's had. I came for lunch with some friends and left stuffed. I love that they give everyone their own salsa bowl so that anyone that needs to double dip can do so. They have a good selection of plates on their lunch menu so there's a variety to choose from. The rice and beans are flavorful and compliment the dishes well. Dined in with my wife. We had been on a search for good TexMex. There were good signs as we dined here on a Friday night. First there was a decent crowd signaling this is a popular place. The chips and salsa were solid. Their corn tortillas were above average and the salsa had just the right flavor with just the right amount of kick. I had the Denny Ray which was a 3 enchilada variety plate. I loved the variety and thought the food was solid. If I were to compare this to restaurants in San Antonio I probably would have went with a three. The Dallas area has been lame for good Mexican food hence the 4 star rating. I have been going to Anamia's since the first day they opened in Coppell and we are tickled to death that they finally opened a location in McKinney! This location has the same outstanding food and service. I had the carne asada and my wife had the street tacos. Both were outstanding and all the sides were very flavorful. That's the one thing I love about Anamia's -- they aren't afraid to season their food! I apologize for no pictures but we were so excited about our meals we were halfway through before we thought about photos. We will definitely be making the trip to McKinney a lot to get our Mexican food fix! read more

I don't understand how this place is low on stars so I feel compelled to bump it up because this IS our local Mexican restaurant. I know they have a TexMex mix but under that lies true authentic Mexican flavors. It's not your puddled beans and slippery queso - it's real authentic flavors and ambiance. We have tried multiple dishes and none of them have disappointed! The table side guac, the chips and salsa (which comes fresh when you arrive) and the vibrant and excellent selection of music (which make you want to stand up and dance) complete a well rounded service and quality experience. Busy Tex Mex spot located in McKinney is a great spot for a night out. Chips are served warm, which is always great...salsa is tomato based so not very spicy, but good. We came in on a Saturday night. It was their 3rd day open. It was busy and they were on a wait. The inside looks modern and has a wonderful patio. Our waitress was very attentive, but our drinks from the bar were very slow. We were in no hurry, so that was fine and I chalked it up to "opening pains". The salsa was so good! I could drink it! The hubby and I started with the mini chimichangas. My husband loved the same appetizer (at Luna Di Noche in Plano which is closed). So, he is happy to find a place that makes his beloved mini chimichangas. We then had the Tacos A La Mexicana. Three flour tortillas filled with slow-roasted brisket, sautéed poblano peppers and onions, avocado salad, bean soup and rice. It was so tender and moist. We will be back for many happy returns! I enjoyed eating the chicken enchiladas with white sauce. I'm not someone who normally eats a cheese only enchilada but I paired it with the rice and beans...TASTY. The price for entrees won't set you back, most all dishes are under $15. I'm shocked to admit that I'm trying this Tres Leche staple for the FIRST time. Absolutely horrible service, and food. Went in on a Saturday at Noon; place is completely empty. Should have have been the first indicator to turn around and leave. Couldn't tell you who our waiter actually was. Started with a guy who took our order, but then he sat and talked to another worker at the bar the rest of the time we were there. Never came to check our drinks, or check on us while we were there. Meanwhile, our food was cold because it sat in the back waitingg for him to pick it up. When we were ready to leave, we had to get up and walK over to him, and ask if we could pay. This horrible service has happened twice now. As someone who goes here RELIGIOUSLY (Dude...I'm the damn duchess of Mexican food in McKinney and of Anamia's) I feel qualified enough to tell you that if you want an awesome "this-margarita-is-what-Jimmy-Buffet-wrote-songs-about" cocktail, get the Anamia's on the rocks. It's legit and you feel like $8.25 is a steal after one (it's on happy hour M-F 3 pm to 6 pm). Originally I came here because I'm in my last year of graduate school. That should tell you why. It's got booze and my house is like three streets away. In my quest to get "Gary Busey-fied" (only when I was not driving) I developed a soft spot for their signature margarita, as most I've tried merely feel like a Capri Sun gone wrong or it was $15 to get one mediocre drink (Cristina's, I'm looking at you). I have also sampled the majority of the menu. The good- bean and cheese nachos are always my jam. These are good. The salsa is spicy too, so you know I'm all about it. Enchiladas are decent here, but are typically not warm enough, so check your plate. Fish tacos were very good. Caldo here is good. The bad - do not get the ceviche. There's a reason so many people comment on it. It's not fresh tasting. It's got an overpowering "skunk fish" taste. It's a true ceviche and not a shrimp cocktail but don't do it. You'll regret it, much like I do my second husband. Also avoid the chili rellano as they serve it here in an almost raw poblano. You'll argue with waiters as they tell you this is "how they do things" and unless you just like snacking on poblanos while walking around Kroger, skip it. The shrimp dishes I've all tried and they basically Hammertime those scrimps. They always come out rubbery. Avoid. The cheese quesadilla needs salt. A lot of it. Overall I'm still enjoying this place, but last time I went it was 9:10. I sat down and knew closing was at 10. It's Tex mex so you know it only takes 5 minutes before it's at the table. I ordered a margarita and a couple of half orders of stuff. They all arrived but after 9:30 no one checked on me. The busboy kept trying to take my food to close up. If I'd have been the only person, maybe I coukd see shoving me out, but the place still had 8 other guests I could see. I kept trying to flag down a waitress or waiter but nothing. I got up to get to go boxes as I hadn't ate most of the food and the busboy swooped in and dumped a full order of nachos and half of the quesadilla and just walked off with half of my drink too. I told this to the bartender who just went "I make drinks". Cool. I like to drink them so make me another was going to be my reply but he claimed he had closed up...at 9:30. That's annoying - if your hours state 10 pm, I want to know I can roll in with my crew and get drinks and food all the way up until 10. I've not been back. We come here a good bit each month. Mostly after church on Sunday's (funny I know) but they have great brunch and $5 margs. Who can pass on that. My go to for brunch is usually Huevos Rancheros. Its not too much food and comes with a side of fruit and beans. In all honesty my oldest daughter usually eats the fruit. lol. My wife usually orders one of the power bowls which are really healthy. I've been debating on coming here for months, so I finally went. Our server didn't bring us anything at first, it took at least 5 minutes for us to get salsa (which isn't that long). We ordered Queso and tea. They brought us chips before the Queso, but they were mainly crumbs. Our Queso came 15 minutes late, and also cold. Luckily, the manager was very accommodating and didn't make us pay. I do NOT recommend. read more
