puerto rican breakfast
Shiny C.

Came here one morning with my friends and we had high expectations because of the rating, but our experience did not reflect the good reviews. First of all, the service was meh.. The servers kind of seemed like they had better things to do rather than serve us. At one point we asked someone for extra plates for sharing and he said he would get some, but then we saw him come back two or three times to help other tables without our plates and we had to ask someone else. The flavors of the food were all over the place. We wanted to try the Dominican breakfast but they were out, so we got the Puerto Rican breakfast which came with rice, tater tots, eggs, toast, and spam. The spam was EXTREMELY salty - spam is already quite salty as it is but this spam tasted like they added extra salt. The eggs were super bland. We also got the cinnamon roll pancakes which were extremely sweet, but I'll give that one a pass since it kind of implies that in the name. Maybe we just went on an off day, but my friends and I were quite disappointed with our experience here.

I went in for breakfast this morning. Upon arrival I was sat at a high top in the front portion of the restaurant. The music was playing super loud but I was by myself so I guess I had noone to talk to otherwise it might have been too much. I initially ordered the passion fruit juice and was super excited about it but informed they did not have it. I got the orange juice instead. I then had the French toast combo that came with eggs and sausage. You could have chosen bacon or ham instead. The food was good. The server was attentive but confused the heck out of me into paying cash because of some way they get paid and he adds checks together. I still don't know what he was explaining but I paid with cash instead of my card that I already had out and ready.

The food itself is very good, I wouldn't say it's really Puerto Rican food as it's mostly catered towards tourists. The service is quick but not overly friendly, just a get in get out type environment. The French toast is very good however

Came here for breakfast because we had heard great things about their French toast. Lots of variety on the menu, but we ultimately decided on the French toast combo because we wanted a little protein before our pool day. The French toast was so thick and very tasty. I loved the whipped cream on top. The yogurt bowl was good. The scrambled eggs left us disappointed though. They tasted like they were egg beaters or pre-made because they were kind of rubbery. Otherwise, it was a super filling breakfast.

Wow, wow, WOW! Everything was amazing--and absolutely delicious. I was there for four days and ended up going twice because I couldn't get enough. The first visit, I had the breakfast burrito... perfection. The second time, I tried the Dominican breakfast--OMG! The portions alone could feed three people. Both times, I ordered a latte and a strawberry margarita, and they were just as great as the food. The music was a vibe, and the staff really made the experience unforgettable--friendly, attentive, and super engaging. They were dancing, singing, even doing little tricks--it felt like dinner and a show! The place itself is adorable and perfect for pictures. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting--you won't regret it! My friends had Avacado toast, PR breakfast. and French toast. Never disappointed!

The Verdict: Delicious Food, Distracted Service Here is the quick breakdown of my experience: * Pros: The food was amazing and incredibly satisfying. You'll definitely leave full. The interior vibe is also really cool. * Cons: The music is way too loud for conversation, and the service is very slow. The staff spent more time on their phones than helping customers. Bottom Line: Come for the food, but expect a long wait and subpar service.

We had found this place on tik tok & decided to give it a try... the inside was cute & viby if you're looking for aesthetic. The service wasn't the best tho, the food did come out pretty quick & was really good! Our iced coffees were also tasty! Overall I would say give this place a try at least once :)

We went here again this morning since our other morning breakfast was good. We got here 5 minutes after they opened at 8am Tuesday morning. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and they were out of the wraps. He got the American with sausage. I ordered French toast. They were out of ALL French toast and offered pancakes ! I ordered the American with ham. My husband asked for hot sauce - guess what? They were out of that too!! Our bread/ toast had a funny / odd taste today. Different than the other day. I wonder if they ran out of butter and used something else ? Horrible experience and how can a breakfast place open up without certain staples ? Stop at the grocery store before you open.

A popular, trendy brunch spot that absolutely lives up to the hype. We arrived when it was just a tad busy but were still seated fairly quickly, which was a great start. The music was bumping, the vibes were vibing, and the atmosphere felt fun and energetic without being overwhelming. The staff were great--friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The food and drinks were delicious, and the menu has so many good options I honestly wish I had a bigger appetite to try them all. I started with an espresso martini and loved that they used real espresso (the only way to drink it). For an appetizer, I ordered the chicken empanada, which had great flavor and a nice little kick. For my entrée, I ordered the guava strawberry cheesecake French toast with a side of eggs and turkey--soooo good. So good. I ate every single bite. I finished with their hibiscus magic tea, which was refreshing and delicious. This is exactly the kind of place you want to be at for brunch in San Juan. Highly recommend.

Food: the food is amazing. The eggs, waffles, chicken, Dominican breakfast, eggs, and the fruits everything is so fresh and delicious. Service: my goodness the service was epic and personal. Our waiter Jesus is nothing short of amazing. The energy, attention, and personality he brings to our table is natural. He continuously engaged with use and provided his honesty in our ordering. Jesus is highly recommended when you come to this place. Ambiance: the entire place is decor for the holiday season, clean, spacious, and provide a safe space for friends or date night. Overall score 4.9/5.0

Came here for brunch on a Saturday with a group of 5. we were sat quite quickly in the back. The place is pretty large and it's packed. We ordered a variety of dishes, including chicken and waffles, chicken and French toast, the super plate and the Dominican plate. The portion size is quite large and we all were pretty full. The Dominican plate is the highlight. Their fried cheese and salami are so good and flavorful. The chicken dishes could be skipped - we expected fried chicken but it's just chicken tenders. Their French toasts and tater tots are great. Would recommend trying the breakfast plates!

Service was quick , it seemed a bit rushed but I guess better than it seeming to slow lol. Ambiance was cute it's a great location where you can walk to the beach after. Food was decent didn't need any syrup as the French toast was sweet . Chicken was decent as well. Coffee was okay nothing spectacular.

We popped in while walking around Condado looking for a good breakfast/brunch spot and were pleasantly surprised to find Christianson. Their menu had exactly what we were craving and everything we ordered was delicious! The staff were super friendly, the service was quick, and the whole experience felt easy and welcoming. We sat on the patio and loved the ambiance, with a perfect breeze, great vibes, and a relaxing start to our day. We will definitely be recommending this spot and coming back on our next trip to Puerto Rico!

We sat down for dinner at 7:45 and did not receive our drinks until 8:20, even though we put in our order as soon as we sat down... and asked politely how much longer until our drinks would come out... twice. Food did not come out for an hour and half, it was cold by the time we got it. Mac and cheese is not great cold. The ribs are extremely overcooked and like eating beef jerky. Drinks were okay, but by the time we got them everyone's cocktails were watered down, as well as the soft drinks. The ambiance was not great either since everyone around us was visibly frustrated by the wait times and lack of service, a table across flagged the waitress multiple times to ask where their stuff was. The food was decent, but again, cold. The wait times were no joke. We wrapped up our 7:45 dinner around 10, simply because of how long it took to be served. Our waitress came to our table maybe 3 times total, we would have to stand and find her to figure out where our food/drinks were. They were also out of a good majority of items on the menu when we tried to order them. Overall I unfortunately don't recommend! Price, service, and food are not great.

My friend ordered the Power Omelette, her husband had the Famous French Toast, and my husband chose the Ashford Special. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and was impressed with both the quality and the generous portions. I also had a fresh-squeezed orange juice, and it was absolutely delicious--fresh, sweet, and the perfect complement to breakfast. The portions are large, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. We left full, happy, and glad we stopped in. It felt so nice after getting overheated right before we got there. One thing I noticed while wandering around Old San Juan is that some restaurants likely survive on location and foot traffic alone, while others earn people seeking them out. Semilla definitely felt like the latter. It's tucked just around the corner from some of the busiest pedestrian areas, so it felt like we escaped the crowds for a little while without actually going very far. Overall, I'd happily come back. If you're staying nearby and looking for a good meal without being surrounded by the busiest tourist crowds, Semilla is well worth checking out.

I asked if I could be seated in a different section of the restaurant, and even though they were packed, they said absolutely and found me a lovely seat in the bar area. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive. I suffer from severe food allergies but wanted to experience their tasting menu. My server spoke to the chef directly and then took the time to walk me through every option. I TRULY appreciated that they did not take anything off the menu but rather told me how they could adjust for my allergies. That is very rare and so very much appreciated that they went that extra mile for me. I highly recommend the tasting menu. It's 5 courses and they give you 3 options to choose from, within each course. And for the price ($85), a great value. Everything was delicious but I highly recommend the Breadfruit Gnocchi, Rainbow Runner Crudo, and Criollo Duck Mofongo. Chefs kiss! The standout of the evening was the Criollo Duck Mofongo, which was absolutely exquisite and easily the best mofongo we had on our trip by far. The cocktails were tasty and unique, but a bit small for the price. This definitely isn't an every-night kind of restaurant...the prices are on the higher side. The café had a modern, inviting atmosphere, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I asked if one of the frozen drinks could be split for the kids, and although they didn't split it for us, they happily gave us two extra cups so we could divide it ourselves. I've bought them at the grocery store for my mother over the years when I couldn't find Menier. I was hoping to see some unique desserts at Chocobar Cortés. Let's just say that the chocobar at this location was not what I was expecting. It's like an express version of their original one in Old San Juan. This is located in the lobby of the Condado Palm Hotel. There are 2 entrances. Don't make the same mistake we did by trying to access at street level. That door is locked. You'll need to enter through the hotel lobby. The service is very slow here. There was only one other person there. We ordered a box of 6 chocolates and payed for it. I'm guessing he was making a drink for the other guest because he asked us to wait a few minutes. It ended up being longer so he told his colleague (who just came back from a break) to make up the chocolate box for us. Unfortunately, it took even longer as this other guy was more interested in the 2 young girls who just walked in. The chocolate bonbons were good, but nothing unique. It's the same artisan chocolates that you see everywhere for the same high price. Perhaps this location is better for their specialty cocktails in the evening time. I was looking forward to trying the choco-latte at some point. I doubt there will be a next time.
