I had the worst experience on Sunday, yes Super Bowl it was so chaotic, there was no social distancing at all there were so many people waiting on there orders, including myself, on orders that were called in the day before. Had to wait over an hour from the time given to pick my order , asked to speak to a manager , because my credit card had already been charged even though I didn't have my order, & getting a refund would take 3 to 5 business days , Mangers never came to acknowledge any of us customers, I feel the whole situation was very poorly handled, unfortunately this was my favorite place to eat , but because of this experience I will never go back.. We have almost become regulars because the local watering hole is closed. They have a great selection of beers. I am really liking the Hefe that they currently have on tap. The food is good and is made fresh. You HAVE to try the pizza rolls when you visit! They are made fresh daily and you have to get them with the garlic and Parmesan. If you like wings, then this is your place. I like them with the habanero ranch dry rub with fresh lime squeezed over them. Good both dry and with sauce. Nothing worse than paying for terrible food. It was not busy when we went around dinner time but our food took almost an hour to come out. When we got our food almost every single pepperoni on our pizza was burnt, they were brown and black not even red anymore. Friday night date night...sat at the middle of the bar. Appetizer & happy hour drinks & service were great. Bartender was friendly and attentive. New bartender arrives. Ordered "hot" wings and Buffalo chicken salad for dinner. Salad came out first; bartender admitted there was confusion in the kitchen. Wings came out approx 10 min later & were bland with no spice heat--the chicken on the salad had more heat!!! We informed the bartender. She said that they appeared to be the right color for hot wings & eventually offered to bring a side of hot sauce to resolve the issue. From that point on we were completely ignored--the restaurant wasn't overly crowded. Not one time did either bartender check in to ask us how the food was or if we wanted water or more drinks. We waited to see if they would interact with us but they walked right past us repeatedly without so much as a glance. Their main focus was clearly on the regular customers seated at the bar. Just walked out! I'm handicapped and they seated us at the furthest table in the restaurant. Then we were given 1 menu then they informed us that there was a $.30 upcharge on the chicken wings! Anchor bar is the best place for chicken. I've been to the original in Buffalo and was so excited to see one open here in San Antonio. The boneless chicken is my got to but their wings are huge. Best wings in San Antonio! Anchor Bar is our favorite place to watch a game while enjoying a great meal. Plus they just expanded the restaurant to fit more tables, so wait times have improved significantly. Our favorite server is Ryan. He always gives great recommendations. I never would have thought to try the Habanero Lime Ranch rub on wings but it's one of our favorites now. COVID precautions are also taken seriously, so we feel safe. They recently put up shields in between tables for an added layer of separation between other patrons. Give this place a try, you won't regret it! read more

Other than my wife having to go in and let the hostess know we've been outside for 20 minutes with no sign of a waitress, things were good. Once she came out every thing went smoothly after. It was a Friday night so that little hiccup can be overlooked. We ordered the buffalo chicken salad, the meat pizza and wings. The salad was huge with plenty of shredded chicken and croutons. The wings were meaty and tasty and the pizza was fine. We'll be going back. We didn't arrive until 8:15 and the place was pretty packed. Great place! I have been to the original in NY...this place held its own. The wings are crisp and perfect, if you have never had beef on weck, I recommend it VERY highly!! Maliek was our server and he was great! We appreciate how patient he was while we tried to decide what we were eating. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars... We ate on the patio and despite signs stating no smoking, people did anyway. We brought this to the attention of the management and he just shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't consider the patio to be a part of the no smoking area. This has become my replacement sports bar for the poorly managed Yardhouse in La Cantera. While it's a little unfortunate that I have to drive to this location, it more than makes up for it with consistent chicken wings, cheap cold beer, and, most importantly, a TV policy that has been implemented appropriately thus far on my weekend visits. You may be here for the wings, and they are above standard. My personal favorites have been the habanero ranch dry rub (which can be served with lime on the side) and the original hot wings. There isn't too much to say about the actual chicken; I assume they take the chicken wings from storage, throw them in the fryer for 6-8 minutes, and either douse them with a delicious sauce or coat them with a great dry rub. Honestly, it really doesn't matter. The sauces here are better than the ones you find in most places. And really, the chicken is fine too unless you are a major food snob. In any event, they are definitely more than acceptable if you like wings. The beer selection isn't some hipster paradise, but they a small selection that has enough variety to satisfy most palates. I tend to go with the most boring beer choices when I'm watching football (Miller, Coors, Dos Equis), but they have other selections if you don't do those type of beers. What has been most important to me has been the TV selection, and Anchor Bar so far has excelled in this regard. Quite simply, if they have the game, and no one else is watching a particular TV, they will change the channel to your game and allow you to continue watching it even when other patrons come into the bar. Sounds simple enough? Too complicated for Yardhouse in La Cantera. At Anchor Bar, if you are from the South, the East Coast, or the West Coast, you can actually watch your game. On top of that, service and management has been nice and accommodating. I know this particular spot off 1604 has been cursed, but this is by far the most promising business to operate in the space. And by the look of the Yelp reviews, it looks like they have a good chance of sticking around for awhile. I'd definitely recommend it for people looking for a very casual afternoon or night of watching sports. read more
