I had an interesting experience at Anchor Bar last night. First, the important part...the wings. The wings were great in my opinion. We got three flavors, one custom rub that our waiter suggested, teriyaki, and the lemon pepper rub. Now for the rest of the food. We were a little disappointed when my husband ordered fish but the manager came over later and let us know that they were out of fish. (Why order fish at a wing place though???) my husband decided to get a philly cheese steak instead (insert eye roll here). He was disappointed when it came out with no cheese. We got the tots and the wedges, they were both perfect. Perfectly seasoned and fried. We also got an order of the Queso which was pretty good. I love white Queso and have a hard time finding it here in SA. So, the weirdest part of our evening was our server. He was odd and trying too hard. To the point of annoyance. He was doing his job but admitted that he lied about the custom rub, he had never even tried it. That's fine....but why???? My girlfriend and I wanted to try something new and this looked pretty good. The waiter was awesome and really looked out for us. The food was also very very good. The only side note we had was that the fried food tasted like the fryer was quite old and gave it that "old grease" taste. Other than that it was a very good experience. read more

Really cool concept from a New York bar! The wings were defiantly on point. We tried the mac and cheese burger which was so good! The fried mac and cheese "bun" was made perfectly with the right texture and on the inside the mac and cheese was still gooey and delicious! The middle of the burger had all the fixings and I had jalapeños added, which added a hint of spice. The burger comes with a side option and I opted for the gator tots, delicious! They had a wide selection of draft beers, including craft beer options. Between 2 people we shared wings and the mac and cheese burger which seems impossible for one person to eat all of! They have plenty of TV's so there's always a good game on! We caught a couple college football games on the Saturday afternoon we visited the resturant. We were not impressed! Wings were ok, too dry but good flavor. Be more generous with your sause. I had the roast beef "Wrek" it was gross! Grissly meat and overly salty! Staff was nice. Sat at the bar before our party came. The bar counter was a mess. It was like that for 15 mins until a nice lady cleaned it and even apologized, even when several people could have taken care of it as it was not busy and they were just standing there. There was also an uncleared finished meal that sat there the entire time. Very few beers in bottles, which is the only thing I will drink these days. They need new bag toss outside as the one there was out of order. Go to "light up bag toss " and get a nice custom board! The menus were falling apart. The outside tables are wobbly and the chairs will cut off your circulation. As far as a sports bar, they are doing ok. Received burnt, overcooked, tough chicken through delivery. Emailed company and received prompt responses. Some guy up the ladder offered a full refund with a check sent through the mail. Never got a check or heard from him again. This restaurant does not care about their customers. I've told all my friends and family about my poor experience with this restaurant. By far my favorite wing spot in this area. The prices are fair. The wait is always short and the staff is so attentive. I love the atmosphere for a sports watching weekend. Was recommended to this place by another fellow yelp elite member. This place is pretty big...we ordered their 8wings lunch combo with options for fries, tots, or wedges. Service was a bit slow...they do let you sample the flavorful sauces if you aren't sure which one. After trying a few I decided to stick to the original medium sauce. Whew. Whirlwind of an evening. Came in to watch some football and get some wings. Got off to a good start. Got to a table and took about ten minutes before anyone came up. Got our drink orders and it took thirty minutes to get one beer and two waters. Brought the wrong size beer and didn't bring any waters. Walked up to the bar and got waters right away. Not a big deal. Staying for a football game so plan on being here a while. We order our food and the first half goes by. Nothing about our food. Waitress came by and gave us a side of Mac n cheese but no wings to be seen. Asked her about the wings and she was shocked that they weren't out yet. Went to check on them and still nothing. Manager comes up and asks how everything is so we tell her not great since it's been 30+ minutes since we ordered and had nothing. Manager puts a rush order in and the wings come out. Bad part is they are not what we ordered and they were cold. So she puts another order in so another 20-25min wait before the wings come out. STILL not what we ordered but it's been long enough and we just want to eat at this point. Manager apologized for everything and offered a free appetizer to fix the issue. Ordered an app earlier (pizza egg rolls are delish) so tried to use the gift card we were just given and the server told us we couldn't use it (after saying that we definitely could). Absolutely done with it at this point, we just want our tickets and to leave. Tickets all come back wrong. Waitress goes to fix it and it's wrong again. So we pay whatever we have on ours and sort it all out later. Absolutely horrid experience. Visited this place Wednesday afternoon, had a Groupon. Place was nice, a good place to enjoy a beer. I ordered the 50 wing platter. That platter included 5 different flavors. Bourbon bbq, medium hot, teriyaki, sweet and sour, and the garlic Parmesan dry rub. All flavors were good and they were fresh. We ordered three orders of wedges, they were delicious. The wings came with 5 small containers of ranch each additional is I believe .25 cents. The wedges were $2 each, I would have to say that the wedges are kinda pricey considering the small container they come in. I would still recommend this place even without a Groupon. Visited Anchor Bar for the 1st time and went back the following week with our neighbors. This should tell you we loved it! The atmosphere is great and the wings were even better! The wings were crispy just like I want them. I ordered the green chile burger the 2nd time. I don't care for green chilies BUT I LOVED it! The mac and cheese fried balls were sooooo freakin' good! Staff were amazing last night! They didn't have WNBA game 3 on any TVs when we arrived, but they immediately seated us in front of a TV where they planned to change the channel. I asked to move 1 booth back so we're didn't have a crick in our necks 2 hours later. They immediately accommodated us. Being from the Buffalo area, I was excited to see if their pizza had the essence I've been missing from pizza since moving south. Alas, the essence still escapes me. However, the original Buffalo wings were perfect! My wife was so happy, and not just bc of the Long Island iced tea & a few IPA beers! Four stars are for the wings, service, and putting the WNBA Championship series on several tvs other than just ours. Service was excellent! Available but not hovering. This is a genuine sports bar so expect it to be LOUD‼ People are cheering for their teams, which was what I was wanting. I love screaming at the tv! Turns out they use a valet service in the evenings. It's $20 cash only, and EVERY spot in the lot is valet parking, both in front and behind the building. We got there at 2:00, left at 3:25. Took 10 minutes to get drinks. We then ordered food. I ordered Cobb Salad with crispy chicken and a side of potato wedges. My husband ordered cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. The waitress gave him choice of fries sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar or salt. He chose salt. The food came out about 25 minutes later. My Cobb salad had no avocado, no bacon and no Bleu cheese crumbles. Plus, it had grilled chicken instead of crispy. My husband's sweet potato fries were so salty they were inedible. He said his burger was good. The waitress got the manager. She said a new order was being put in for my salad and for the fries. She said I probably got someone else's salad. About 15 minutes later, my salad came out. It had 4 slices of avocado. Two of which were brown. I couldn't taste any bacon and was only able to find a few crumbles. It was the same for the Bleu cheese crumbles. I had to search for them and took several bites without tasting any. It also had only a few diced tomatoes. It did have a lot of chicken and the chicken tasted fine. The salad was $14.99. I don't mind paying that much for a good salad, but a large bowl of mixed greens with chicken piled on top is not worth it. The replacement sweet potato fries were not cooked all the way and were hard when bitter into. The waitress did apologize two or three times. The manager never came back to check to see if the replacement food was satisfactory. $57 later plus tip left us feeling disappointed. We will not be going back. read more

Wow! This place is great! Where to start... I guess the best part is I love close by and can't wait to come back. That being said the service is incredible. The wings are really good. Some of the best in town -- but I'm not a wing expert. They're also decently priced. I haven't had anything else on the menu other than a side salad, which was passable. Drinks are cheap, that's for sure. Definitely a plus. Also, we've been able to find a place at the bar every time we've gone. What we don't like is the service. The servers are nice enough, but they're not well trained and they don't take an interest in ensuring the customer is taken care of. The place overall seems to lack the proper systems in place to ensure the customer has a good experience. We felt pretty neglected the three times we've gone -- generally had to wait around for service and were served with little to no enthusiasm. I put the blame squarely on management, which was noticeably absent the times we were there. In short, we probably won't be back. read more

We came to anchor bar for a friend's birthday. He is a huge bills fan and apparently this is THE place in San Antonio to watch the bills games. I was a little worried there would be a wait because we went on Sunday at noon, during football season when the bills had a game as well as the cowboys. We were seated immediately and the server promptly took our drink orders. They were running a special for tall dos xx or shiner for $5. We split an appetizer of the friend Mac n cheese, it was delicious and was a large serving (the look almost like hamburger patties as far as size goes). I also ordered the single, all flats wings- split sauce between the habanero ranch dry rub and spicy lemon pepper sauce. The wings were cooked well and had very good flavor. My only complaint is they charge for every little thing- split sauce (even with the 10 wings), charge for all flats or drums, and charge for extra ranch (which I expect to pay extra for the all flats and extra ranch, but the split flavor charge kind of surprised me). I also tried one of my friend's dry rub buffalo wing which was good but had a sweet aftertaste. The drinks, food, service, atmosphere was awesome- we will be back! read more

But the best part of our visit this evening was the service. Our server, Devante, was polite and attentive. He anticipated our every need. Worst drink ever! Ordered a vodka and soda and it was sooo weak. NO taste of vodka at all. Mentioned it to bartender and he was not helpful Seemed kinda annoyed . So good! We went on Friday night and we're seated immediately. We got the macaroni balls which the manager gave us for free since it was our first time.
