I love love love that every time I walk in I can make a brand new combination. I get to choose whether I want wheat, white, or multi-grain bread. I get to have a pesto ricotta sauce blend one day and a garlic marinara blend another. I can choose shrimp, chicken, and bacon on my pizza one day. I can choose broccoli, meatballs, and onions the next day. Whatever I want, I can have it. The is no limit and I can even ask for extra without extra cost. "Extra shrimp please"...yes yes yes! Fresh ingredients, great sauces, a ridiculous number of toppings, oh, and great service. This is the third &pizza I have been too and it did not disappoint. My wife and I headed into the city from NoVA to meet up with a friend that we had not seen in a while. My wife really wanted to make a trip to U&pizza but after walking around museums for a while, we were tired. We decided to walk around the corner to check some other place out and bam, &pizza. Could this be? Are our eyes deceiving us? No, no they were not... so in we went. Kiss & Fire... Has an amazing spicy sauce with a ricotta sauce, meatballs, and a strawberry balsamic that sounds odd, but really works. This pizza is just fantastic! Gnarlic.... This white pizza is truly for the garlic lovers. If you like garlic, but don't LOVE garlic, you may want to think twice. If you love garlic, dive in feet first because this really is a garlic lovers dream. Caramelized onions compliment this well. I am glad to see that &pizza had yet another location that is in an area that I actually go. The other locations were out of the way, but worth the trip. I came here after running because i was craving Pizza and i heard good things about it. First thing you should know, they do not do take out orders over the phone, but it wasn't as problem, as i was in and out in 15 minutes. I had the redvine pizza. If you like hot and spicy, this is the pizza for you! I had lots of jalapeño peppers and I opted for the vegan spicy sauce substitute and it burned all the way through if you know what i mean! But is was worth it. The flavor was on point. I also opted for the house made mozzarella, because why would not?! I felt the ingredients were tasted fresh. I only wish i put more veggies on it. Quick service paired with a ton of topping options to pick from and several doughs and sauces makes for fun to get creative. There is usually a line out the door during the lunch hours but like I said it moves quickly and they are accurate with prepping your pizza. We really liked the pizza here but we didn't receive the sauces we asked for on the side. As a result, everything was a little dry.... but overall the food here was good! Unfortunately, my honey and goat cheese pizza didn't have very much goat cheese and because we didn't receive our sauces things were a bit dry... make sure to get extra sauces on the side. I've been to all five &pizza locations that have opened thus far, and my last visit to this E-Street location was my favorite experience of all my visits to &pizza. If you read my reviews for the U St or H St location, you'll see how much I love the pizza. What really impressed me yesterday was the staff. The staff at &pizza is generally very friendly and upbeat, but yesterday's staff seemed to win the award for happiest &pizza staff. They also seemed like one of the youngest staffs I've seen, so maybe life just hasn't got to them yet. I used to be happy in high school too, but now I'm old and bitter. Just...Kidding....I'm a happy person (most times) :D I came at 8 p.m. on a Monday, and I was pretty much the only person in the place besides the staff. I watched a manager give some instructions to a staff member. I couldn't hear what they were, but I just heard the kid (more like young adult) say, "Cool, yeah!" while nodding his head. The next thing you know, the kid was on his knees wiping down the legs on all the chairs. How can someone be so enthusiastic about cleaning the legs of chairs?! At first it was a little weird to watch someone clean on their hands and knees while I was sitting there eating my pizza, though since I was the only one there, he was not in my way. Soon after I just thought it was cool to see someone work so hard while keeping a smile on his face. Keep up the good work young man! Back to the food-&pizza has launched a new line of drinks, their "housemade sodas." I tried the Ginger Berry Lemonade. I thought it was going to be Ginger Berry Lemon soda, but the drink had absolutely zero fizz. I asked an employee if it was supposed to be a soda, but he said no, it's a lemonade. Well that makes sense, except it was a little confusing that they announced craft soda on their Twitter with a pic of the Ginger Berry Lemonade if it actually wasn't a soda. They should have said house made craft sodas and lemonades launched at all locations. They used the hashtag #whatyourfizz, but once again, their was zero fizz in my drink. Also, the drink could have used more ginger. Ginger is the first word in the title, and that is what drew me to the drink, but I didn't taste much ginger in my lemonade. read more

Hands down, the best place for lunch near the National Mall. As a DC native, I have had my fair share of out-of-town visitors wanting to do all the classic DC sights more times than I can count. And we always end up starving in the restaurant wasteland known as the National Mall. Sure, the museums have restaurants, and there is the odd hotdog truck along Constitution Ave, but if you have been standing all day, the last thing you want to do is stand eating an overpriced pretzel in the blazing humidity. So I highly recommend walking a couple blocks away from the Mall to this gem. Sure, its tiny and looks crazy busy, but you'll notice that a lot of business-looking people standing in line during their lunch break which means the line goes fast, and even picky DC-ers like this place. The last time I went, I got the Maverick pizza, which was amazing. Each ingredient is the highest quality and you can taste it when it comes out freshly baked from their speedy ovens. And I love that you can get fresh basil leaves and they won't skimp on them. I also suggest getting some of their sauces at the end in little cups to dip your pizza into. Friendliest staff, best service, and really reasonably priced for the amount and quality of food you get. I'm now looking forward to more out of town visitors who want to go to the Mall during lunch. read more

Dear &pizza, I love you. I'd eat your pizza every day if I could but I live 800 miles away. Review Tips for the Uninitiated: Tip 1: Don't come here alone!* Person #1: Orders the food. Person #2: Stalks people eating/sitting so that as soon as they leave, you'll have somewhere to sit. Seriously, they need about five times the space they currently have because seating is an absolute nightmare at the wrong time of day. That being said, their pizza is totally worth it so just know that seating will be a problem during peak times and accept it. *Okay, you can go alone and mostly likely find a place to squeeze in between other diners. However, groups of three or more people should definitely plan on grabbing the first seats that open up! Tip 2: While you can order everything, don't. You'll want to but trust me, modifying is fine/encouraged but their suggested creations are amazing as written so trust them. Once you start going there more often (read: daily) you can start experimenting. Getting two pizzas on one crust is great if you can't decide so consider that as an option. Tip 3: Each soda is amazing by itself but mixing the flavors takes them to a whole new level of wonderful! Also like the seating, plan one standing in line for your drink. Expect a few people to stand in front of the soda dispenser for a while tasting all the options; don't judge them, you'll do the same thing. Staff: Friendly and efficient. Dislikes: I've been to three locations at various times of the day and all have had messy tables. They really need someone specifically dedicated to cleaning tables and refilling items (napkins, drink lids, etc.). It's never been enough to put me off eating there but it brings out my germaphobe side. Favorite Pizzas: Moonstruck & The Og with added toppings (broccoli and kalamata olives were the most recent additions for me). This location was out of the fig balsamic last time I was there which was very sad. Still, fantastic pizza. Also cracked eggs on pizza are amazing! Summary: Their ingredients in my experience have always been incredibly fresh and well prepared. They always put enough toppings on the pizza and are good at judging the amount of each ingredient needed to balance the flavors. Stopped here tonight in order to ease my hunger pangs but left with a new favorite pizza place in the whole world. YES, though home is all the way in California, I will always remember &pizza as having the best vegan pizza. I walked in and was immediately greeted warmly by the staff. Two of the pizza makers (I'm sorry I didn't catch their names), asked if it was my first time (it was) and explained the process to me. Save for two premium toppings, all toppings were free when a signature pizza is ordered. That is unheard of where I am from, where customizations will cost you a pretty penny! I ordered the backyard lite and subbed it with daiya mozzarella cheese. I appreciate the lengths the staff went to in order to ensure cleanliness and cross-contamination, as they changed gloves and even used a separate pizza slicer. The pizza was to die for (that garlic purée and lemon juice!!!). Crust was super thin and crispy. As I went to pay at check-out, I was helped by Isaiah. He was smiling from ear to ear and was very courteous and provided excellent customer service. Fresh ingredients and interesting, well-executed combinations made this the best make-your-own pizza I've had. Everything is done well at &pizza. The sauce is excellent. The pizza slinger recommended i put both the garlic sauce and the regular marinara sauce on my pizza. I obliged and it was GREAT. The garlic sauce and the marinara go perfectly with one another. The garlic is not overpowering, and the marinara has a robust, tangy flavor. The toppings are fresh and delicious and nearly all are included in the price (with the exception of the gluten free options). I got three types of meat and a plethora of vegetables. The pizza is served as a long rectangle, rather than a circle; i like this, i think it helps to avoid the mound of toppings dilemma that tends to occur [when I make a custom pizza]. The price is right, and there are no hidden charges or anything like that. For exactly $10, you get as many toppings as you want. I like the peace of mind paying a flat $10 fee (including tax) affords you. Cannot recommend more highly! read more

What &pizza lacks in not even mediocre seating (honestly it's a terrible terrible setup, and whoever designed it should quit their day job), they make up for in really delicious pizza. Admittedly, it was partially our fault that we went when it was difficult to find a place to sit (which we did, by the way) because it was the holiday break and during the lunch rush, but even on a not so busy day, the seating leaves much to be desired. We ordered: Moonstruck (mushrooms, onions, mozzarella, goat cheese, fig balsamic) Pineapple Jack (salami, pineapple, cherry pepper bbq sauce) The Elvis (pb, jelly, bananas, bacon) The savory pizza were magnificent - as soon as I finished the Moonstruck, I wanted more. The fig balsamic was really delicious and added a great sweetness that counterbalanced the savory notes. The Pineapple Jack is made with fresh, not canned, pineapple, which is how it should always be. The crust has a nice chew and is cooked well, though the toppings were better. The dessert pizza was a mistake. Not only did the employees not know how to make it, which we found surprising, it lacked flavor and was pretty burnt. This may have been because they didn't know how to make it and did so erroneously, or it may not be a good pizza. At any rate, skip it and stick with the savories instead. Ultimately, I think my review is a 3.5 because of the seating situation and how poorly the dessert pizza turned out, but I'd rather round up because the entree pizzas we ordered were so exceptional. This is NOT what I expected when I walked by, in a pleasant kind of way. In search of a quick bite to eat prior to seeing a show at the Warner Theatre I found my way to &pizza via the "What's Nearby" function. I was expecting (prior to entrance) something akin to mass produced bland crusted pizza with a selection of ingredients that would be fairly standard. When I walked in I was a bit surprised by how small the shop was, the rather lengthy line, and the smorgasbord of selections on the menu board. I was expecting the line to move slowly like your average "Smoked mexican pepper" burrito establishment, especially since a pizza/flatbread takes a bit more time in preparation (one would think). In actuality, the line moved quickly, despite the various options including several doughs, sauces, and fresh cheeses and ingredients. Of the ingredients I was also pleasantly surprised to see locally sourced items offered. I ended up with a delicious pizza with a spicy tomato sauce, chicken, fresh mozzarella, and a great complement of vegetables including sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes. It was incredibly good, and hard to believe no matter what ingredients I stacked on this masterpiece the grand total was about $9!!! Shocking for most restaurants, let alone in DC. I hope the price doesn't go up too soon. The only slowdown was at the cash register where the final garnish, payment, and beverages in the assembly line system seemed to be taken care of by the same very busy, yet very polite young lady. I feel badly about giving this place a low rating and all the reviews are so positive, but my first (and so far only) experience here was terrible. I order a 1/2 Gnarlic and 1/2 Backyard Garden. There was so much garlic paste it overwhelmed the entire pizza and made it completely soggy. It was a huge mess to try to eat with my hands. I had to toss it out. It was really bad. While this particular shop is very small, it is also extremely loud with everyone yelling orders and people talking and crowded in together. Very unpleasant eating experience. On the positive side, the staff were great. They were very helpful and happy people, but the atmosphere and the pizza, not so much. Helpful Tip: For lunch, make sure to get there before 12pm to beat the lunch rush hour. Otherwise, you're guaranteed to be standing in a line reaching the front door, may not get one of their limited seating spots, or - if you're lucky enough to get a seat - will be completely surrounded by people & loud raucous in this small area. Took my Florida high school students there during our trip to speak on juvenile justice on Capitol Hill and the White House. This is the second &pizza location I have been too, and can confirm that the quality and taste are still amazing. The farmer's daughter is something I crave - it is just perfect, the nice sausage, egg, and spicy pepper sauce make for a taste explosion. The thin oval crust is crispy and perfect. I know there are locations in NYC but I often try other things when back home, while in DC I noticed that this wasn't too far from the museum of natural history so when we were done there we had a late lunch there, this place is essentially a really good version of subway but for pizza, there are pre made options that you can order or you can decide to make your own pizza with unlimited choice of toppings, my girlfriend had the big Caesar while I decided to make my own. My pizza was unique and I loved that I could choose my crust, sauce etc, I chose regular crust, spicy marinara, pieces of mozzarella instead of shredded, pineapple, grilled onions, roasted red peppers, pepperoni, meatballs, I topped it with hot honey and basil pesto, honestly I couldn't get this pizza anywhere else, it was awesome, we got sparkling water, there was craft soda and water on the menu, I wasn't a fan of the set up, there's seating in the middle but it seemed ineffective as opposed to regular tables, I enjoyed this spot and makes me want to check out the NYC locations read more

There's a good reason why this local chain is ubiquitous and keeps on expanding. The pizzas are quite delicious. I especially enjoy the farmer's daughter pizza (comes with eggs- works as a breakfast pizza but good anytime). The spicy tomato sauce is something different that other similar pizza places don't offer - definitely worth trying if you like spicy. I also love that it is one flat rate for any toppings. I've accidentally ordered &pizza unlimited toppings-style at competitor locations and have ended up spending $13 on a pizza (not optimal). However, if you are like me one must practice restraint. The crust isn't heavy so too many toppings can make the pizza flimsy/a tiny bit soggy. The dough/crust isn't my favorite of the fast-casual pizza options (I think veloce/pizza studio have the edge here) but is still solid. Plus, given the amount of locations and flexible hours it's hard not to appreciate this place. read more
