I love the ambiance of & Sons and we were able to sit at the bar while we waited for our table, although we didnt get our drink till two seconds before we were about to be sat but the bartender was working alone and was extremely busy. The food portions were insane, that salad was literally falling off the plate. I love that they have prefixed specials for different days and prices really well for what they give you. My only issue and why I didnt give it 5 stars was that when our main was served (we did the prefix steak dinner that came with three sides) all of the food was pretty cold. The mac and cheese carbonara had a raw egg in it and the pasta was warm enough to cook it through but it was definitely not hot, neither was the mash or the spinach. We ordered the sirloin and the classic NY strip with a side of horseradish sauce which added great flavor. The dinner pre fix is a great deal, we did the pigs in a blanket, Caesar salad, bass & dry aged strip and the chocolate mousse and blueberry cheesecake. Everything was solid and I think what really blew us away was how good the Caesar salad was (weird thing to point out in a steak review, I know). We went for the midweek martini dinner. The gin quality must have been really poor because it felt like ingesting rubbing alcohol. The steak was also WAY overcooked for medium rare. I really enjoyed this Steakeasy! I had previously visited the location inside Mel's Burger and liked it as well, but this was by far my favorite. We started with the warm bread and savory jams. The egg yolk custard was definitely new for me but it actually paired really well with the garlic confit and the bacon jam. The classic Caesar was delicious and I could not get enough of the parmesan crisps. For our entrees we tried the Filet Mignon with Mac & Cheese Carbonara, Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potatoes, and Creamed Spinach. I honestly wasn't the biggest fan of the Mac due to the egg yolk but I loved everything else. The steak was nicely cooked and the chimichurri sauce was a great addition. First off, I love the restaurant ambiance - you first walk into a bar stocked with local New York spirits, love the open space allowing a nice breeze with the windows opened especially during late spring/early summer, continue walking through the bar, is the beautiful dining room. High ceilings, big windows with beautiful natural light, it feels like walking into a cool museum! Delicious cocktail options, especially love the different takes on the old fashion. Now for food, the burger, the Cesar salad and the creamed spinach are my favorites!!! Burger was thick and juicy. Love the cheese crisp and egg yolk custard on the salad. I love a creamed spinach that has more greens than cream so I feel slightly healthy ;) but honestly is one of the best creamed spinach I've had. Mac and cheese carbonara - I wish it wasn't called Mac and cheese or a carbonara because I personally don't think it was either one or fusion but nevertheless still a tasty cheese sauced pasta. I started with the old fashion, which was quite strong and super delicious and my friend had the hibiscus sour we were very impressed. It was very cozy in there giving awesome old school vibes. We did the four courses which started with pigs in a blanket, super light and crispy and some spicy mustard! We then had an enormous Caesar salad, I love homemade dressing. And then a beautifully displayed New York strip sliced medium rare with cooked garlic and béarnaise sauce. Wow, all I can say is wow. A solid drink list of wines and cocktails compliments the meats well. The service was impressive--a dropped steak knife was replaced in less than a minute by the eagle-eyed staff. I was looking forward to a simple, albeit well made, brunch on a Saturday afternoon. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and offered a table at a shared ruby leather banquette or a table for two in the center of the room by the waiters station (only the banquette was occupied by a family of four at the time of our seating.) We opted for the table. Our waiter, Nick, presented us with the brunch menus & drink (alcohol only) menu. The brunch includes 4 small cinnamon squares (1"x1") accompanied by raspberry preserves & a dollop of mascarpone, an entree & side of your choice. We both opted for the sliced sirloin, two poached eggs over potato hash and the citrus fennel salad (comprised of arugula, fennel, oranges, radish, citrus vinaigrette). The steak was cooked perfectly (mid rare) but under seasoned with a garlicky aftertaste. The hash browns were unremarkable & lacked the edge crispiness I prefer. The poached eggs were inconsistent (mine were jammy and my wife's had runny whites). Nick came by to ask our thoughts. My wife asked to have her eggs cooked a bit more as the whites were both white & mottled with translucent jelly (uncooked) and Nick apologized & agreed to have them repoached. He returned in a few minutes with overdone fried eggs. He then returned & asked if she was satisfied. She said she was expecting poached eggs and Nick explained that they sous vide the eggs and when they remake them, they're pan fried. So...the menu says "poached" not sous vide (to properly sous vide an egg takes 30-40 minutes in a steady 165 degree water bath). I certainly would state that on a menu if I were to offer it. The short of it is that we either received the eggs served or typical pan fried eggs with no effort to have be runny as hoped for to produce that yolky gravy that's delicious to dip steak in or run hash browns through. We both were disappointed and found the dish mediocre. A single mandarin orange slice and 3-4 thin slices of radish adorned a nicely plated arugula & fennel salad. The dressing gently glazed the greens & a nice, gentle citrusy quality to it. $38 per person for the cinnamon bread, steak dish & salad. The coffee ($4.50 a cup) we ordered was pretty pedestrian and not much better than your average morning food cart might offer? Overall, the setting is lovely, the service friendly but the execution & communication was poor. We will likely not return as there are many better options available in this amazing city. read more

Can we get a round of applause for & Son Steakeasy??? Because boy oh boy did we have a timeeee on Saturday night. This was a remarkable find as we sifted through Yelp trying to find somewhere to grab a bite close by. We found it, hopped in a Lyft and got there in about 10 minutes. We were greeted by the host who told us we could head to the bar for whatever we wanted. We asked the bartender if we could get a lobster roll to go. He said they don't do to go orders but we could order it, then ask to get it wrapped up. We chatted with him as we waited for our food and he made us an old fashioned. I asked him if I could walk around the restaurant to grab some pics and he had no issues with it. On my way to the dining area, I stopped to talk to the head chef who gave me a warm welcome and told me a little bit about the kitchen staff. He then urged me to head up to the speakeasy to grab some more pics. I snapped some pics upstairs and headed back down to sip my drink, which was really good and grab our food. The bartender was kind enough to have the kitchen, despite them not allowing take out, to have our food packed up. Only for us to decide to eat there bc we loved the ambience. He was a good sport about it despite the effort he put in for us to to get it to go. He even invited us to come back again and grab dinner in the dining area. I will absolutely be back!! Dined in the upstairs portion of the restaurant for a work dinner with some colleagues. The ambience throughout the restaurant is fantastic. Timeless, classy decor and lighting you'd expect from a bar and steakhouse. Upstairs area had plenty of room and an additional bar for some of the craft cocktails they take a lot of pride in. I had 2 dirty martinis and was a big fan, though it took a lot for me to not go with the old fashioned as it seemed like a place that would really know their stuff. NY strip steak frites was cooked perfectly and was incredibly flavorful along with our sides for the table and an excellent blueberry cheesecake dessert. Highlights of the meal were the churro squares as well as the steak and eggs with potato hash. We went for the Tuesday/Wednesday $36 Martini Dinner that includes a filthy gin or vodka martini, chef's choice 8 oz cut and fries however, it was my birthday and we ended up ordering the Porterhouse for Two Steak Dinner ($89 each). It included the choice of one app and one salad to share, the steak, and 3 sides. Was it worth it? Yes, yes it was! We started with the grilled bread and accompanying jams: Bacon, garlic confit, and egg yolk. We preferred them in that order; bacon was by far the best and the egg yolk though not my favorite was definitely worth a try. For salad we had the wedge which was delicious for the blue cheese lover in me and my friend who is not; we both thoroughly enjoyed. They sous vide their steaks which some may consider cheating, I'd call it smart, it was perfectly medium, juicy, and delicious. Sides were creamed spinach (yum), mash (yum), and mac & cheese carbonara served yolk in tact (double yum). We didn't leave much room for dessert but it was a birthday so we had to. The blueberry cheesecake, served in a mini mason jar, was the perfect vehicle for blowing out a candle and ending the meal on a sweet note. The food is very solid, my friends and I did the $55 steak option and there were four of us so we basically had every thing on the menu plus the fries. It is a great amount of money for the amount of food you are getting. It wasn't the best steak dinner of my life but everything was very good. The service was a little slow and not the most attentive however it was a very crowded evening so that does happen. My wife held a birthday party for me with 20 family and friends in the restaurant's private room-- behind a bookcase where Mafioso in the 40s supposedly played poker--and it was a spectacular evening. The room's atmosphere was warm and clubby, making the cocktail hour festive and fun for all of us.
