We had a wonderful, relaxing dinner at Andaluca. The service was top notch and the food was delicious. There was 6 of us and we managed to order a variety of land, air and sea dishes between us....every single one was cooked perfectly and all plates were basically licked clean :) I had the petit roast medium rare and YUM! Rave reviews for the paella, chicken, duck and lamb from my colleagues as well. I hear their cocktails are great but we kept to our rioja recommended by our server and it was a winner for sure. I just came from Lebanon, were the Maza is made out of 72 different plates. Had some business in Seattle and Andaluca was recommended by a local friend. I said Andaluca it is, but if it is not good, I am billing you for my dinner. I ordered an appetizer and an entree. The presentation and the taste were both awesome. The manager Kamyar was talkative and informing, so was the server Blane. So I gladly lost the bet, and I will be definitely back sometimes soon. Excellent service! The men working here definitely give you that upscale service that you can only find in nicer restaurants these days. We came here for brunch on a Sunday. The crowd is older, which isn't surprising because the decor and ambience, while intimate, clean, and on the fancier side, is a bit outdated and not something that would attract hip millennials. That being said, the food was solid. I got the shakshuka--loved that it was very saucy--with sourdough toast and a virgin bloody mary while Hubs ordered a waffle. I have read many of the reviews on here. This restaurant is WAY over priced. Small portions too. I won't be back and cannot recommend this place. I like to eat, and for forty bucks expect more food. The food was generally okay (except for the raw pork chop I was presented with) but the service was highly questionable. The waiter serving us constantly mixed up our orders and would forget to give us what we ordered. One time he came to our table to take our order while HE was eating (I.e was talking with food in his mouth + had food ON his mouth). Several members of our table had to ask him THREE separate times EACH for one thing before receiving what they asked for. At the end of the night, two different waiters in addition to the MANAGER had to help out since our waiter forgot about us/our orders (it wasn't even a busy night NOR did we order much). I want to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was having a bad night but for the sake of future patrons, I hope this doesn't happen again. read more

Wow... I could stop my review right there and it would be a very accurate review.... I have too many good things to say about my experience at Andaluca but I'll try and list them all. First off, we had 630pm reservations that my date had made and she frequents the restaurant, so she already knew it'd be great. This was my first time. We were greeted promptly and friendly and were led to a corner where we were given a choice of booth or a corner table where we could easily sit at a 90 degree angle to one-another - we chose the latter. Our wonderful server came by and told us a little about the menu and offered us a cocktail. I had brought with me a bottle of wine and we opted to have him go ahead and open and decant the wine and we might do a cocktail with dessert instead (spoiler alert - we did!). After careful consideration, I chose for my salad course the "Shaved Bresaola Salad: thinly shaved air-dried cured beef, toasted king trumpet mushrooms, cauliflower, firm goat's cheese, arugula & truffle oil." For my entree? "Pan Seared Duck Breast, chanterelle & lobster mushrooms, red kuri squash puree, elderberry sauce." I opted for the squash puree on the side as my date doesn't like squash. I ended up never even trying the squash puree, only because the entree was so incredible and perfect in every bite that I didn't want to risk anything by even trying it! LOL! My date ordered "Petit Rib Roast, rioja butter sauce, pavé russet potatoes, roasted pearl onions, baby carrots & sautéed kale." We traded a couple bites of our meals so I was able to try this. She says it's what she gets most of the time she dines here. It was INCREDIBLE! And the potatoes? Wow... similar to a scallop potato but yet different. Lucky for me, my date couldn't quite finish the last of her potatoes and the last bite of the roast, so I swooped in and helped her out! My choice of wine I brought was the Hedges Red Mountain (2013) which is a blend, primarily a 60/30 Cab/Merlot but with the 10% on the end made up from a couple of other Bordeaux grapes. A very wonderful wine for a reasonable price at the store (under $30). Keep in mind that there was a corkage fee for doing this, as is usual, and they do not have this wine on the menu, though I could suggest something similar (2016 Quilceda Creek Red Blend or the 2015 CanvasBack Red Mountain Cabernet, which is almost the same blend as the Hedges but 80/10 on the Cab/Merlot instead of 60/30, hence it's able to be labeled a Cabernet. This is one of my favorites!). The above mentioned wine we enjoyed paired perfectly with the Petit Rib Roast! It overpowered the duck just a tad, but I still enjoyed both. I think for the duck entree, the best pairing would be something a smidge softer, like a Pinot Noir, Grenache or perhaps even Tempranillo. After the meal was finished and the wine nearly finished as well, we were brought dessert menus where we selected the Creme Brûlée as well as a nice cheese. While the cheese was simply delicious, the Creme Brûlée, in my opinion, was the only disappointment of the evening. My date LOVES the Creme Brûlée and our server even recommended it as his favorite without knowing she was eyeing it too, so it was probably just me that didn't care for it. I often have Creme Brûlée wherever I go and I just didn't fancy this one. Along with the cheese & dessert I enjoyed an Amaro Nonino and my date had an Espresso Martini, which I was considering ordering. I LOVE Espresso Martinis and often get them when I see them on a menu. This one was perfectly balanced which, I hate to say, isn't always the case. One of the best Espresso Martinis I've ever had! In conclusion, this was also one of the better MEALS I've ever had, and though I don't go out to eat often, I do try to make it count when I do go out and this was exactly what I needed and would expect from a restaurant of this price-point and ambiance. Sadly, I've been to plenty of restaurants in this same price-point and been disappointed, several times. If you want a very nice meal for around $200 (for 2, before tip) and you're looking in downtown Seattle, I highly recommend you stop in and try Andaluca! read more

We made reservations and arrived just before 5, we had to wait a few minutes for the doors to open but we're immediately greeted with a very warm welcome from our waiter Heather M. Heather knew a lot about the dishes and the wine and made recommendations and answered questions for us. The restaurant was clean and had a nice atmosphere. My co-workers ordered the Paella and I had the Preserved Lemon & Herb Chicken, it was so good I decided on dessert and had the Lemon Mascarpone Panna Cotta. The food was absolutely undeniably delicious and our server made the experience even better. The price was extremely reasonable considering how delicious it was. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the atmosphere, the service and the delicious food! I hope to go visit again soon! read more

We heard recently they opened for takeout. All 4 members of the family love their food (teens to adults), and we get a takeout dinner every week, so this rocketed to the top of our list. We've had a number of takeout meals that have suffered from the delays inherent in takeout (it's at least 15 minutes from restaurant to our home, for instance), but all our dishes held well and were delicious. I was hesitant to order paella to go, for instance, but mine tasted fine, as did the lamb koftes and our cocktails (to be fair, every takeout cocktail I've ordered has held up well). The only hassle was the ordering interface would not let you get 4 main dishes in a single order, so I had to break up the order. The employee who handed me the food said they'd fix that. Also, downtown one way streets made it tricky to get here. But there's a good pickup zone right in front of the restaurant and all the food was ready when I arrived. The food, as I said, did not disappoint. We'll order again soon. read more

So I'm going to write this while things are still fresh and my stomach is still full. Just came back with Andrew D and two other friends from the 3 for $30 Dine Around Seattle promotion. Between the four of us, we were able to order every single item on the menu, which, for this year, included: mussels, apple salad, and olives for starters, beef, chicken and halibut skewers, pumpkin risotto, duck cake, chorizo dates, and mushrooms for tapas, and chocolate cake, strudel, and flan for dessert. I'll start by saying that service was good, and the feel of the restaurant wasn't bad either, just to get the easy stuff out of the way. Now, the food was really hit or miss, but mostly disappointing to all of us. I personally thought the best part of the entire dinner was the hummus that was served along with the bread at the beginning of our meal. Things kind of just snowballed downhill from there. One of the large issues with the overall meal was that everything came out just barely lukewarm, which I imagine affected the flavors adversely. The starters actually weren't too bad: mussels were decent, salad was good (mostly the candied walnuts), though I've definitely had tastier olives (at Plaka in Ballard). The chicken and mushroom tapas were the ones I liked most among the lot, being okay to borderline good (I'd give them 3.5 stars). The dates and fish were okay (about a 3), but the halibut was rather fishy, which I found somewhat unusual. The beef, risotto, and duck cakes all had a queer quality/taste to them though, that, while not bad or spoiled, just felt off to most of us, and these I'd give 2 stars. As for dessert (which we had alongside some incredibly weak coffee), flan definitely was the winner (4 stars), with the strudel and cake coming in around 3 stars. These latter two also suffered from the issue of being borderline cold instead of warm. I was hoping I'd like Andaluca, but I don't think I can bring myself to come here again in the future - the taste of the food varies far too drastically, with the majority of it being too mediocre to be of good value. Overall rating of 3 stars if they were cheaper, but given the price tag, I have to lower them to 2.5 stars. To their credit though, the serving sizes were quite impressive, so at least you leave full. read more

Upon arrival we took advantage of their complimentary valet service as parking is a bit of a hassle there, and the rain was coming down in sheets. The little things we men do, for our women, especially on Valentines Day... I believe were given the best seat in the house- the cozy booth in the corner near the bar. I totally love Mediterranean food and Andaluca did not disappoint our finicky palates. The menu changes from time to time so I can't recommend any particular dish but this time we opted to get 4 or 5 tapas to share instead of our own entrees. We started with the pear salad followed by the halibut skewer (which I found the sauce a bit too salty), potato croquette, roasted mushroom & goat cheese risotto- perfectly seasoned, and my favorite the lamb osso bucco style. For dessert we shared the pineapple mascarpone turnover. We skipped the wine this time and my girlfriend sipped on her lemon drop and I on my jack and coke. Overall ambience of Andaluca was casual- much to my surprise. We were dressed to the nines (as we always are when we dine in the city) but there were many people in jeans and sweatshirts- gross! Good, friendly service, just one suggestion to John, our waiter, please slow down your menu speal and enunciate your words better. He was very difficult to understand as the restaurant grew more and more busy as the evening went on. I love coming here for pintxos and paella, which is just what we did last evening! The stuffed dates, duck cake, and mushrooms were all perfectly seasoned. The paella was rich in ingredients and flavour - the only complaint is that I wish it had socarrat (the crispy bottom). I finished with the chocolate cake. Service was great. I took a friend here as a birthday present, and since it was November, we did the $30 Dine Around Seattle deal. She got: Appetizer: Roasted Mussels. This was amazing, the broth was so fragrant and flavorful, full of herbs and wine. I generally don't like shellfish, but I had two bites because it was just that good. We even asked for extra bread to sop up all the goodness. Pintxo: Beef skewer, halibut skewer, duck cake. We both agreed that the beef skewer was out favorite pintxo. It was crusted in bleu cheese which had somehow crystallized in the cooking process, leaving a crunchy texture an very strong taste. The halibut skewer was pretty good, but she found FOUR bones in it, which was a shock because the skewer itself wasn't very big. The duck cake, which we'd heard so much about, was frankly disappointing. It was this weird ground duck concoction that didn't really taste like duck and was dry and not flavorful. Dessert: Apple and cranberry strudel. The saffron caramel sauce was great, but the apple and cranberry inside the strudel were dry. :( I got: Appetizer: Gala Apple Salad. I loved this. The cheese was so creamy and strong, and the candied walnuts were well-spiced. Pintxo: Pumpkin risotto, duck cake, stuffed chorizo dates. This was my first risotto experience and I really enjoyed it. A little on the sweet side, though. The dates were good, although I could barely taste the chorizo inside. It was served with some sort of berry sauce. More sweet than savory but that was ok. Dessert: Spanish flan with seasonal fruit. This was, hands-down, the best flan I've ever tasted in my life. It was rich and smooth and ooh so good. Everything that a flan should be. There was also complementary bread and hummus. Both good, but the bread was cold which disappointed me. I like warm bread. Overall, the food was excellent except for a few minor hiccups (bones in the fish, dry strudel, disappointing duck cake), and I'd definitely like to go here again and try the rest of their menu. Finally, I remember try this little restaurant. I passed it so many times and frankly never build up the appetite to try it. It is hidden on the north central block of Stewart Street in downtown Seattle, carved into the Fairmont hotel. It is small restaurant, but I was easily blinded by the cozy, intimated ambiance of the place. I ordered from the DineSeattle preselected menu, which is a three course meal for $30. That was just the right portions. Of course, I must have wine to complete the experience( that is extra). I ordered the grilled tuna. Man!! That was the best tasting tuna I ever ordered at any restaurant. It was cooked perfectly, plumped, juicy and seasoned. The service was friendly, courteouse and prompt. Mixed feelings for Andaluca. Interior was super dark and sort of unwelcoming, but the staff were warm and quick to cater to your every need. For appetizers, I personally think the bread service is worth the extra money. The eggplant and hummus were fantastic, and enough to warrant the cost. The crab was a little confusing because the plating was admittedly ugly. The two meat dishes we got (venison and duck) were slightly overcooked - the duck more so, which was kind of gamy and not particularly tender. The jammed blueberries were a nice touch, although some parts were drenched in it, making the overall flavor a bit too sweet. The balance was better for the venison. I came here for restaurant week. Since it was a 1 person table, I chose to sit at the bar. The bar tender was very well spoken and greeted immediately. I started with soup du jour which was pumpkin and squash soup with paprika oil. It was light yet flavorful. I enjoyed it quite a bit. Second course was the rack of lamb. The lamb was cooked medium rare and was very soft and flavorful. My only dissatisfaction was the amount of fat content on the bone. Third course was lemon mascarpone pana cotta. I love pana cotta and this is exactly what I needed to cut through that fatty lamb. It was refreshing and a great palette cleanser. This is really an excellent and creative tapas spot. We ordered the duck cake, Lamb Dolmas, Lamb burger meatballs, a large Fattoush salad, Stuffed Chorizo Dates and a Special Risotta with Chanterelle mushrooms. This seems like a helluva lot of food for 2 people right? Actually, it was just right as the portions are really small. This is both good and bad: Small portions=trying more items; however, it goes without saying, this was an expensive lunch! The server suggested the mussels early on as they are supposed to be large. I just didn't really want mussels with duck and lamb. The dishes were really good, though the date overwhelms the chorizo. I actually took this apart to see why and realized the "stuffing" is quite small. An unusual event occurred though, making me think these folks are really great people: This elderly man came in with a cookbook and wanted to cook a meal for his wife's birthday. During their lunch rush, he asked to speak to the chef about making a red sauce. The chef came out and was really patient, giving the guy a bunch of tips. Needless to say, this wouldn't have occurred in LA...I keep thinking: Suppose this had been Melisse?....If you know Melisse, you'll get this reference. Let's just say, you probably do not want to try this at Melisse. For this reason alone, I'd give this spot 4.5 stars and I'd go back. read more

Went here for restaurant week dinner and I didn't realize how popular this place was. I came here with a friend right when it opened and I was surprised by the number of folks who reserved a table around 5:30. That sort of brought my expectations up as a first-timer. The atmosphere was nice, furniture and everything fit really well like an upscale restaurant, except for the lighting....it's way too dark. If you're sitting near by the windows, that's not a problem but I was seated away from the sunlight in the booth area and it was just too dark. Anyhow, our server came by and explained some highlights for this week's dishes. I ordered the one with the fish steak that is part of the salmon family, I believe. My appetizer was the hummus and loved it. Perfectly seasoned, not too salty. Main dish was also nice, I actually loved the mushroom the most that was underneath the fish. Whatever they did with the mushroom, maybe slightly smoked in with some type of wood, was nicely complimented with the fish. It was slightly in the salty side on the outside but that was okay because it balances out with the fish. Dessert was a strawberry sorbet/sherbet, nothing too spectacular just what you'd expect. The price ranges here are pretty pricey, so it's an option for any special occasions. I'd probably come here for another restaurant week. read more

The best food I ever tasted. I was there in February for lunch. The waiter, Brian (if I remember correctly) was very friendly and hospitable. I started with the Gala Apple Salad which was delicious. I had the fish and chicken, both amazing. My desert, the LIQUID CHOCOLATE CAKE with the little tangerine on the side took me straight to heaven! Ate here on NYE with the pre set menu. Our waitress was nice but the restaurant was definitely understaffed as it took forever to get our food and drinks and it is a very small restaurant. First bad sign was that our waitress could not even describe what was in their signature cocktail. The cocktail was ok but definitely lacked alcohol for the $18 price tag. For our first course I got the burrata and my fiancée got the pear salad. The pear salad was not good and tasted like they had made a large quantity earlier that day to be served all night. The burrata was good. For dinner my fiancée got the Paella which the menu described to have prawns. When the paella came out it did not have prawns but instead shrimp and was more of a gumbo than paella. The seafood was clearly not cooked with the rice and the dish was dry. I got the rib roast. I ordered it medium rare but the steak was very clearly just not cooked. The marbled fat inside was not even melted. I thoroughly enjoy medium rare steak but this was definitely just not cooked. At this point it took almost two hours to receive our main dish so I did not want to wait any longer for them to remake my meal. For dessert my fiancée got the panna cotta which was just Greek yogurt in the shape of a cylinder and not real panna cotta. For the $85 a person before the $36 for two drinks the food was terrible. I feel like very little effort was put into making sure quality food was being served. I could even hear other tables complaining about their food and the amount of time they waited. To end it all we had ordered a baguette as an appetizer that the menu stated was $3. Looking back at my receipt now I was charged $5 for the baguette. I have also noticed that the menu provided day of was different then the menu advertised when making my reservation. I feel like the owner was being deceitful and cut massively corners to make a big profit off of guests on NYE. Would never go back and would never recommend. read more

We ordered the eggplant appetizer and butternut squash soup to start. They were both delicious! So good. I had the roasted carrot and avocado salad, the husband had the potato and leek soup. No appetizers thank goodness because the entree was more than ample. About six good-sized medallions on top of what I think is wilted spinach, with asparagus, pearl onions and a delicious potato somehow shaped into a rectangle and thinly sliced. I wish I knew what the sauce was. It worked with the neat very well. We had also ordered roasted Brussel sprouts. They took so long though, they were on the house. Nice of them to do that. We didn't really care for them after all. Somewhat flavorless. I had a Diet Coke with lemon. I was given several lemon wedges placed along the rim of an empty glass. The husband had four glasses of regular Coke. The server remarked that he was going to drink all of their Coke. The lemons almost looked like a shrimp cocktail arrangement. Classy. Andaluca styles itself as a culinary oasis. This would suggest the surrounding area is a culinary desert. Nothing could be further from the truth; there are many comparable options nearby that stack up well or even better than Andaluca. The atmosphere is warm and inviting in a historic downtown Seattle hotel. The service is superb. But the food, while competent, is nothing sensational. Portions are quite small for what you pay. And what you pay is what you would expect to pay for a gourmet dining experience. What I ate (salmon with abalone mushrooms and greens, followed by a lavender flavoured crème brulee.) was not gourmet dining: lack lustre, but as I stated above competent. Oh. My. This restaurant connected to the Seattle Mayflower has a breakfast for lovers. Choose your booth and sidle in next to each other for a game of footsies between the coffee pours. And yes, that coffee is Umbria which true coffee aficionados will recognize and appreciate. The higher-end menu, consistent with the hotel nextdoor, may let you escape for $20 but pack an extra fiver just to be safe. Lots of Mediterranean-omelet type dishes, which actually my friend ordered. I can't report on that here because again, he did not offer me a bite! I ordered the frittata which was not what I expected. Potatoes here were served on the side, not incorporated with the eggs. And this was more open-face omelet fare and a tad over cooked so tough/chewy not fork tender as an omelet should be. But what do I know? I don't cook, I just eat a lot. This is one of the best meals I have ever had. You definitely get what you pay for here! I started with their delightful sangria, and then moved onto onion soup. Omg, the soup! So flavorful with a hint of sweetness! I also had a fabulous potato appetizer; I can't remember the name, but it was amazing! Their petite rib roast melted in my mouth and was covered in sauce so tasty, I wanted to lick the plate. The balance of flavors was perfect, and the vegetables that came with it made the dish seem like a fancy Sunday roast and vegetables but all dressed up for the ball! I finished with some fantastic liquid chocolate cake. To top it all off, the decor was beautiful and the service was top notch. It was a great experience all around. We had a great experience here that started with the manager, Kamyar, who personally ensured that our meal would be gluten free. We decided to have a bunch of small plates, including the cinnamon shrimp, scallops, crab stack, beef kebab and cheese platter. All of the items were very good, but short of amazing. Unfortunately, they were priced at amazing and the portions were on the small side. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and the service (in addition to Kamyar) was very good. We will be going back for the liquid chocolate cake, though. read more

Tried their breakfast. There was a picture at the entrance and I was very intrigued, so I ordered their "almond infused french toast with brioche". Wow! I couldn't stop myself and finished the whole thing. The soft and egg infused toast were sandwiching a layer of creamy almond paste. They were just unstoppable! read more

Definitely for the sophisticated palate! Incredibly good service excellent cocktails. Certainly pricey however the food was unique and delicious. If you like pork belly this is your place! read more
