Everything I've ever eaten at Anderson's on Sheridan has been delicious: their roast beef sandwiches, their ice cream cones and sundaes, and their burgers & fries. However: the past year or so, their prices have been extremely expensive. Extremely. This location was around when my mom was a kid, as it was opened in 1953. It has been here for 72 years, but it won't make it to 73 years if they don't lower their prices. read more

Even if the food served here was terrible, you'd have to give stars for nostalgia alone. If you lined up a short list of western New York institutions, Anderson's would be on it and this original location would be the iconic image that locals have emblazoned in their memories. Ask for sides of au jus not received . The roll was so squishy it was like gum . I never get au jus on the sand which I wait till ready to eat then no gummy roll . The roast beef was wayyyyy over cooked . Look at the picture on your menu that's what it should be . read more

Over priced Under sized Over rated Anderson's has increased prices, reduced size of sandwiches yet again. And a small custard did not come to top of the dish. Owned by Neo Anderson of the Matrix. And Pamela Anderson, although she refuses to set foot here because (brrrrrrrr). Plus it's hard to stay thin eating Beef On Weck and Custard. Anderson's is as always one of the standout places to eat for kids and people who like fast food in the Buffalo area - there isn't really anything like Anderson's, which is one of the reasons why you have to come here and try it. Especially here - the original location on Sheridan. The Beef On Weck (always with Horseradish btw) is an excellent approximation of the famous sandwich around these parts (although the classic and my fave is at Charlie The Butcher - original location), and they have chicken buffalo chicken tender sandwiches which are absolutely delicious as well and a cuss word isn't bad at all. Oh wait, I didn't mean a cuss word. I meant the custard. Good curly fries dipped in gravy as well!!! And my mother loves this place... And-her-sons do too. Get it. Get it. read more

The ice cream was amazing. We also had the original beef and wick. I must say it was very good as well. A definite Buffalo favorite. The reason I gave only three stars is due to the cleanliness. Tables were not wiped off or cleared. Condiment counter was dirty and messy, and trash cans needed to be emptied. I know this is a busy place based on the quality of the ice cream I was just disappointed that the staff had not kept it up. They seemed to have adequate staff at the time, as we were serviced very quickly. read more

The roast beef sandwiches are comically small and not even close to the advertised weight. I wouldn't be as annoyed paying $10 for a slider sized sandwich if they didn't specifically advertise the number of ounces for the sandwich. The Carl's Choice is listed as 5 ounces. You would think this is the weight of the meat on the sandwich but the weight of the sandwich with the roll and added cheese was only 4.5 ounces. I'm pretty sure I could have taken it down with one bite. If you're looking for a traditional Buffalo beef on weck go somewhere else. The onion rings were good. read more

This Anderson's has cinnamon frozen custard today as their extra flavor, and it's snowing! Half priced cones when it's snowing so we made a stop after our errands. Anderson's frozen custard is always great, but I get excited when the "extra" flavor is cinnamon. I got a sugar cone with chocolate on the bottom and cinnamon on top. It's a great combo. read more

Worst milkshake I've ever had. I've ordered their custard-based milkshakes a few times and their consistency is hit or miss. I've had some that were pretty thin, but still had some resistance when trying to suck on the straw, which I expect with a milkshake. But sometimes, they're thick and creamy, just like a shake should be. Tonight I tried one of their milkshakes made with hard ice cream. This is BY FAR the worst milkshake I've ever had. It was essentially the consistency of milk. I've had chocolate milk that was thicker than this shake. The main reason I'll go out for ice cream is to get a milkshake and these are too inconsistent to be worthwhile. read more

(We didn't eat any real food here so no opinions from me on whether the beef on weck is authentic enough or if this is a good spot to get greased by their other offerings, etc.) Our visit here was short and sweet. After a to be expected suck meal at the Red Robin a few miles away we were hoping to salvage something decent from the area so we figured we would give the infamously infamous dessert offerings at Anderson's a go. Coming here on a Saturday evening during the summer may not have been the greatest idea as the place was packed and parking was a real challenge but eventually we figured it out and lined up. The first smart thing they have here is two different ordering areas for hot food and for desserts. I couldn't imagine what it would be like if people ordering both types of food were allowed to commingle. Black Raspberry Milkshake - Reese's Pieces Deluxe - Two Single Scoops The Reese's was certainly packed with good flavor but five bucks for that little cup? It's truly not that special of an item to warrant such a pricing premium. The milkshake was solid in terms of flavor but like so many places when it comes to making them, this place doesn't have a clue when it comes to consistency, i.e. thin and runny. The single scoops of cinnamon and some kind of chocolate were spot on. As is customary in the drivel I write the thing that kind of turns me off to Anderson's is the price to size ratio. In PA I'm accustomed to custard from The Meadows and ice cream from a local dairy store that makes their own products. Both places have been doing ice cream/custard/frozen desserts as long or longer then Anderson's while offering either comparable or more products for less cost. Obviously I'm not a local to the Buffalo area so I have zero sentimentality towards Anderson's. I certainly can understand how a place like this/a local chain like this can put the blinders on someone or skew a review based on what your heart says versus what's actually happening. But for me the stuff certainly wasn't bad but at the same time it's overpriced and I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here in the future. read more

It had been a long time since I'd had an Anderson's roast beef on kimmelweck. i remember needing to hold them with 2 hands. Not anymore. It was so small I thought a mistake had been made. The amount of roast beef was barely a child sized portion, the kimmelweck roll was so different as to be unrecognizable, and the horseradish barely had any taste. They should just remove them from the menu. I will not return. read more

We went twice in 24 hours while we were driving through and loved the ice cream. The waffle cone was fresh and yummy too. They were very serious about their Covid rules. You are not allowed to stand and eat your ice cream there. You have to be seated. Glad they don't have one of these back home or i would be in trouble. Gym time. read more

I've been to many Anderson's locations in WNY but my most recent visit was to this location. All of them our great, but I do like the look at feel of this location. The seating near walls that can be raised on nice days is a great touch. The food here is always good hands down. I almost always get a roast beef sandwich because the meat is so tender and juicy that I just can't bring myself to get anything else. The rolls are always soft and fresh. I usually pear my sandwich with curly fries, delicious fresh cut fries are hard to pass up as well. There ice cream is delicious as well. The hard ice cream is homemade and included a large variety of different and unique flavors. The ice cream is creamy, and if you come during the winter when it snows they have half price cones! I do find them slightly expensive for fast food, probably averaging $12 or more for a combo meal including sandwich, side and drink. However, the food is always delicious so that makes it way better than most fast food franchises which usually aren't that cheap either. There is a discount for meal deals on Tuesdays, so keep that in mind and take advantage! Definitely a great place to visit for fast, good food! read more

I travel for work out here quite a bit...one thing I've noticed is there are a lot of overweight people in the Buffalo area. I would be too if I ate this food daily. Granted between Teds, Paulas Donuts, Duffs, Charley the Butcher, and Anderson's...they are all very good. Anderson's on a 68 degree day in March (?!?!) was a must stop on a cruise down Sheridan after work (nice sunset to the west). Just a great classic place for a frozen custard (vanilla...i know dullsville). They do have some Americana grub too...including their own beef on weck (so-so from another visit...). You could do the 4000 calorie dinner right near and go across the street for Ted's weenies and onion rings, down the road for 10 wings at Duffs...then wash it down w an Anderson cone...then hit your local tavern. A little taste of Buffalo history lives here so eat it up and enjoy. The never fail to satisfy. It's great for kids and adults, it's casual, walk up and place your order at the window, get your food and sit at any of the picnic tables or in your car and enjoy! The folks here are fun and friendly, and you're surrounded by locals who always look happy to be there. A Buffalo classic ice cream place! Anderson's offers a variety of desserts, such as ice cream cakes, arctic slushes, hard ice cream, and soft serve. For people who are lactose intolerant or are looking for a healthier option, there are choices for you as well. In regards to their hard ice cream, they have an ever changing menu of about 20 flavours. They also have some low fat and low sugar options. I personally always go for their soft serve. For the first time, I ordered it in a dipped waffle cone- and wow, it was amazing! I highly recommend their waffle cones. This location is located in close proximity to Paula's Donuts and on Saturdays they team up. Each Saturday, they offer an original sundae and soft serve creation. I love Anderson's and have for years, but for such a successful business, their planning and management during COVID has been a disaster. Seating is *very* limited and while many other businesses have blocked of part of the parking lot for seating, not Anderson's. The line up is a disaster. The stupid "this side for food, this side for desserts" just doesn't work. Moreover, it doesn't work in a pandemic. The line moves slowly and then once people have their food or ice cream they have to cut through the line to get out. It's a bad (and dangerous) set up that some painted arrows and tape could fix in about 30 seconds. Last night, I waited in line for 35 minutes only to interact with an unpleasant worker who didn't have gloves on. Really? Time to spend more than a few cents on crowd management and get this right. Your long time customers deserve better. read more

We've been going to this Anderson's pretty consistently since we moved into the neighborhood and it's generally on or above par for Anderson's. The biggest thing that I notice is that the staff always seems happy to see you, even when there are a million people in line or you came in *right before* they're about to close...and sometimes even a smudge after that. The ice cream is great though I do wish that Anderson's would do baby cones for hard ice cream. There is no reason they shouldn't be able to do that but, alas, they don't. Very rarely do they make a mistake on our order and on the super rare occasion they have been apologetic and taken care of it. Even when it's busy they manage to keep everything sorted out. The thing that keeps me from 5 stars is the pricing. It just boggles my mind a little how expensive some of the sandwiches are. I mean $7-$8+ for a sandwich with no sides. And I'm not sure that the quality is that good to justify prices so high. All these things said, this location is conveniently situated and we do enjoy going there. I'll typically get a kids meal because then you get a sandwich, side, and ice cream. It's a reasonable amount of food for a reasonable price. So if you're in the area, check it out. read more

The kimmelweck roll had maybe 4 caraway seeds and 4 specks of salt, the beef was over cooked, the gravy had absolutely no flavor and needed salt. Fries were nothing great either. Yes, this is a big chain and a staple of Buffalo-ian (?) life, but as week-long visitors, this was a literal and figurative treat for us. We had dessert here six of seven nights, so it's pretty clear we loved it. There's something collegial and familial about the locations (we went to three different ones) -- it's the most mid-western, non mid-western restaurant we've ever been to. Everyone is fresh faced and attentive, if a little anxious. It was always crowded -- an indication of its popularity. We found it interesting that the DQ (on Harlem?) we passed each night always had a line and couldn't understand why you'd choose DQ when you had Andersen's available. Our friend, the local, explained that the DQ was seasonal and since it opened relatively recently, there was a novelty to it, perhaps? There is a massive selection of ice-cream and cold treats at each location (we can't review the food, because we didn't have an actual meal there). They have "hard" ice cream in unusual and attractive flavors (like salted Carmel something) and their signature soft-serve frozen custard. They always had vanilla and chocolate (and the swirl), as well as a flavor of the day. They do have sugar-free choices, which was great for the diabetic in our group. They have a "whip" selection -- each day we were there it was a fruit whip choice and it was described as "like a Dole Whip." My personal favorite -- and one I ordered four of the six times -- was a sundae with vanilla frozen custard, the sweet salted pecans, a drizzle of chocolate sauce and whipped cream (they serve the REAL STUFF here, pretty amazing for what appears to be a fast-food chain). SO delicious and tasty. The locations were always very crowded and filled with a lot of young people, both working behind the counter and meeting up for a cone or dish. Despite the crowds, it never felt like a long wait. It reminded me of Culver's in Wisconsin, only a little better. There are six Anderson's in the area. read more

Totally don't understand the hype. After moving to Buffalo, I went to Anderson's twice, once for custard and once for "real" food. Now, I *love* custard but Anderson's didn't deliver. Great smooth and creamy texture, but the flavor tasted very artificial and certainly not a premium product. I couldn't finish my small dish and I certainly would not order it again. The second time I went, I tried the savory food instead. I got their signature beef on weck sandwich and sweet potato fries. The sandwich was totally fine, but unmemorable and just average. In a city with beef on weck on almost every restaurant menu, this one was middle of the pack. The sweet potato fries were a good portion size, but soggy and lukewarm. Not worth the calories. In short, I was underwhelmed on all three fronts. They aren't cheap and they aren't fast, so I can't think of a reason to return. Apparently Buffalo is just nostalgic or sentimental because from a culinary perspective, there's nothing special about Anderson's. read more

I truly don't know how to describe how much everybody in Buffalo loves Anderson's. I've been going to Anderson's since I was a toddler. I still love it as much as I did back then. The ice cream is homemade and delicious. They are always adding new flavors and desserts. My personal favorites are the Sponge Candy Ice Cream and a Banana Milkshake. The Oreo Arctic Swirls are also amazing. They also serve food. Their roast beef sandwiches with cheddar are absolutely phenomenal. I'm also a huge fan of their Cajun-spiced curly Q fries dipped in cheese. The atmosphere is perfect. It is a great place to go over the summer. The restaurant is kid-friendly. I also love going in the winter. They sell Christmas trees in December and decorate for the holidays. Everyone I know who has moved out of Buffalo always insists upon visiting Anderson's when they return home. read more

Busy spot to hit on a Friday Evening. I judge an ice cream place by how good their vanilla ice cream is. I gotta say, Anderson's does not disappoint. And we grabbed some burgers after the ice cream and that was also pretty good. Even though Anderson's is known for their Roast Beef, we just wasn't in the mood for it. But the cheeseburgers sure did hit the spot. I much prefer this location to the one on NF Blvd because it seems cleaner. I called in an order a large chicken tender platter plain with bbq and a regular strawberry milkshake to split with my three-year-old daughter. The person on the phone wasn't the most pleasant person to deal with, but I understand I called during lunchtime and was probably inundated with phone/online orders. I picked up my order ten minutes later, it was warm and fresh by the time I made it home. The bbq sauce is not my favorite, but I didn't mind it. The meal was large enough for my daughter and me with leftovers, which was great! Overall, the customer service could use some work, but the food was great. read more
