The person on the phone wasn't the most pleasant person to deal with, but I understand I called during lunchtime and was probably inundated with phone/online orders. I picked up my order ten minutes later, it was warm and fresh by the time I made it home. The bbq sauce is not my favorite, but I didn't mind it. I am NOT an ice cream girl but my friend somehow persuaded me to get some with her. I was extremely hesitant and thought I'd probably order ANYTHING but the ice cream. When I got there, I saw how cheap the prices were so I thought "Why not?" I ordered a vanilla soft serve on a cone with sprinkles. If I am going to have ice cream, I have to have it with sprinkles. Somethings just never change! Might as well make it pretty. In addition to that, I ordered some onion rings. Let me just say this now ... One of the best onion rings ever. It was hot, crunchy, and I can actually bite into it without pulling the entire onion out of the batter. Please do yourself a favor now and order it. I sat down today, and I was about to take a bite of my delicious, melty, moist, roast beef sandwich with cheddar, I thought, how have I not written a review on one of my favorite lunch spots and after all it is a buffalo tradition! Andersons offers a variety of delicious food, most of which I have yet to try, mostly because I love their roast beef with cheddar. I hit Anderson's up every few weeks for lunch and its never a let down. Along with my sandwich I always get the Cajun fries with a side a cheese for dipping. The fries are not spicy, just seasoned, crispy and amazing. Anderson's also makes their own ice cream and its hands down the best in Buffalo. The vanilla custard is rich and creamy and the chocolate shakes are to die for. They are open all year round but this location is defiantly more of a summer spot due to the large garage doors they open during the summer that give it more of an out door feel. I'm told this is a Buffalo institution, but I'm left wondering why. I'm more of an ice cream than custard person, and I noticed they only sell ice cream in the freezer (custard is a dish best served fresh). The ice cream is FULL of fillers and artificial ingredients. I reluctantly ordered some custard, figuring that since they don't list anything, there's no way to know if it's as bad as the ice cream, but that was a poor first impression. I ended up with the special - it was coffee. Other options are chocolate or vanilla, but you may be hard-pressed to tell the difference. Not much coffee flavor to be found, and my guess is that whatever's in there is not natural. The custard itself is hearty. The line was out to the street so I know this place is popular, and I don't want to be too hard on them for the sole issue of ingredients. (There is plenty of covered area, though not much seating, but it's more of a grab-and-go place and that's fine with me.) I've been going to Anderson's for decades. Our takeout experience yesterday was poor. It took too long to be waited on. There were a dozen people in line and the order taker was also filling ice cream orders. When we got home my veggie burger was not built correctly and didn't even have what was typed on the receipt. Anderson's is the only place I will go for ice cream. It is far superior, I think, to Dairy Queen or Cold Stone. My go to is a small twist on a sugar cone with rainbow sprinkles. Yum. If I'm feeling adventurous I will get a hot fudge sundae or split a banana split if I'm with a friend or my boyfriend. And I do love when they have black raspberry as their flavor of the day! But usually I just stick to my regular order. I also really enjoy their roast beef sandwiches and french fries. I have noticed however that they are sometimes inconsistent with the temperature of the roast beef. Sometimes I get it and its perfectly cooked (rare) and juicy and other times its dry as a bone and well done. Its still tasty though so I keep coming back. The curly fries are amongst my fav along with the cheese dipping sauce. And I always enjoy a fountain Pepsi whenever I have the opportunity so this is also a must. Their chicken finger meal is also good and actually one of the only places I will order chicken fingers from..i'm not sure why, but it is. Other than the roast beef and chicken fingers and of course the ice cream, I've never tried any of the other food items on the menu. I guess I have to be more adventurous and try them one day. This is my favorite place to get ice cream in Buffalo, and that's not just because it's within walking distance from my house. The many flavors of hard ice cream are all interesting and often tempting, especially now that they brought out their pumpkin one recently. However, I mostly go here for the custard, which is flavorful and creamy. My go to order is a medium vanilla soft serve with rainbow sprinkles, though sometimes their flavor of the day cannot be ignored (black raspberry, anyone?). I also like their lemon ice for especially hot days, it's definitely more refreshing than a sugary soda. I just discovered today that they serve ice cream on gluten free cones so I will definitely have to try those. I've been stuck having ice cream in dishes as of late (sad trombone noise) but now I have options! Finally, the staff here work hard and are polite every time I go. I ordered a reese's pieces sundae today and asked for the pieces to be upgraded to peanut butter cups instead. Not only was this a magical ice cream eating experience, they did not charge me any extra for the substitution. In conclusion, Andersons is one of those rare Buffalo establishments that does things for the community (fundraisers and the like) and is a delightful place to enter, even when it's cold out. People and families from all over the neighborhood can be seen here, enjoying themselves, their food/dessert, and the business in general. Came to Buffalo to visit my best friend and she took me here because the food was super delicious and super local. The bread was toasted so nicely. It had a crisp, warm outer-shell sprinkled with sea salt. The inside was so soft and fluffy. Once you bite through to the meat, you know this is high tier goodness. The meat isn't overcooked like other places so it melts in your mouth. I loved the shake too! A kid's meal (don't judge me) containing a mini beef-on-weck sandwich, little order of fries, and a lemonade. It came, as always, with a token for a small ice cream. Everything was as good as ever. On her advice, i ordered an Original Roast Beef on a Kimmelweck bun with curly fries and a loganberry drink. You have to eat outside at Anderson's and there was a stiff wind blowing, but I didn't care. The beef on weck was that good. There was lots of meat on my sandwich and, with my fries, were one can-t-pass-up-meal, It was too cold for me, a Southerner, to order ice cream, but my wife had their featured sundae- maple & vanilla ice cream with salted cararmel sauce and pieces of bacon. Took my boys there to grab some custard because we were losing our minds staying around the house. It was good to see that a few families were out and supporting local. I think in this time it's important to remember that our local businesses and Buffalo we're going to suffer more than chains so even though I could've walked to Dairy Queen I decided to head 10 minutes further and go to Anderson's. Everything about this place screams retro 50's. The place looks like someone's grandparents used to go here on school night dates before being total rebels and staying out until 9:00pm. Even in cold weather it's a pretty good experience. But, you have to rate it for what it is. A couple steps above franchise fast food with decor to match. This isn't fine dining. There's no maitre d in a tux with his nose turned up trying to seat you, no table cloths, it's a step above a cookout. And you'll be glad for it! During the summer this place is a blast. My favorite flavor is the Black Raspberry, and there is a custard calendar online where I can check to see when my favorite flavor is available. This is my second time visiting an Anderson's location since coming to Buffalo and I've become quite the fan! This is a local chain mostly known for roast beef sandwiches and custard, but also has a large variety of burgers, chicken, and side dishes to go along with them. Last night we stopped in while searching for some quick and cheap eats and thats exactly what we found. They had a buy one get one free deal for BBQ beef sandwiches so we took them up on that and also ordered a side of onion rings and a side of curly fries. The sandwiches were awesome and tasted better then I was expecting, the curly fries were delicious, and the onion rings were perfect. After finishing I couldn't resist getting a vanilla of serve cone inside of a waffle cone wrapped in chocolate and sprinkles. Overall, this is a great place to stop in for a quick bite while not breaking the bank. With so many locations, I guess ill just yelp the original even though the Niagara falls blvd location is my favorite (used to be Custards Last Stand). It is something hat is truly magical and melts in your mouth. Forget about that soft serve fat free yogurt stuff. You need to get a mouth full of this creamy and thick goodness in your belly! You can't go wrong with a standard vanilla and chocolate twist cone. Next up is what I call my "dynamic duo": Roast beef sandwich & Cajun fries with cheese. (don't mention this when you go there because they will probably look at you like you're crazy!) Alright on to the Roast Beef, it will make you think that Arby's meat look like Spam. They slow roast this in house at each location and slice it up fresh when you order your sandwich. The fresh kimmelwick roll brings everything together well (I secretly knock off some of the salt since it can be a little overwhelming). Then I have them add a little bit of cheese and hot sauce to stick everything together. You can order your sandwich anyway you want so just add a little bit of creativity. Combine that with an order of Cajun fries and cheese to round out your meal. These are fried to perfection in fresh oil and perfectly seasoned. The Anderson family rocks! Keep it up. read more

I've been here a few times, and I'm definitely a fan. As others have mentioned, there's no true indoor seating at this location, it's all outdoors, but mostly covered from the sun. This is the "original" location (there were two previous ones, but they were stands, and this was their original drive-in) and it still retains the look and styling of a drive-thru, with sleek horizontal 50's lines. Getting ice cream on a hot night can be a little chaotic, because there's no clear idea of where the lines start. Other than that, it's fantastic. I've tried both their savory foods and their ice cream, and both are great. I like the Old Fashioned, which is a simple turkey on white bread sandwich, covered in gravy, with mashed potatoes. Not exactly something you can get to go. As far as the ice cream ... mmm mm. I love frozen custard, which people often confuse with soft serve, but it isn't. It's got more butterfat and eggs in it than standard ice cream, which allows it to have a lower freeze point, which lets you serve it like soft serve. My favorite so far is a chocolate/vanilla twist in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. One of these days, I'll have to branch out into hard ice cream, and maybe even a fruit whip! Anyway, I consider this to be one of those Buffalo places that is a must-visit when you're in the area, particularly in the summer. read more

Came here to place a to-go order. The line was probably 20 people deep. It was hot out, and most (if not all??) of the seating is outside, under shelter. We waited forever in line, then FOREVER for our order. Over 40 minutes combined, almost 25 of that just waiting for food. When we went up to see what was going on the girl told us they were waiting on the cheeseburger. Cheeseburger takes 25 minutes to grill?? On this trip to the Buffalo area, I seem to have eaten at several places for the first time. This is an order at the counter restaurant, not my preference. However Anderson's is well known for ice cream and sandwiches. We found one of my favorite restaurants had permanently closed, so a quick decision for dinner was needed as we were hungry. Counter service was quick and Ian was helpful with his questions and got the order exact right. It's very casual dining. It was busy but the floors and tables were definitely clean. We enjoyed our meals and while there wasn't anything to take home, we were satisfied with the quantity for the price. What we lost in atmosphere we gained in cost we saved.
