We arrived yesterday just before Añejo Mexican Bistro opened for lunch at 11:30, giving us a chance to admire the famous weeping beech tree out back -- a stunning spot for al fresco dining in warmer weather. Once inside, we were promptly seated and greeted by our server, Meghan, who brought chilled water and took our drink orders: a Dos Equis Lager and a Down East Cider. A generous basket of chips and salsa followed -- crisp, flavorful, and just the right start. For lunch, we each ordered the Tres Tacos: Carne Asada, Carnitas, and Pollo Elotes. Each taco was distinct and delicious, with house-made spicy pickles adding a perfect kick. Meghan was attentive and knowledgeable, gracefully assisting other tables while making us feel well cared for. The interior was warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed -- a lovely place to linger. Wow!! This place was such a great experience. Located in downtown Hyannis it is the perfect place to get lunch, dinner or just drinks. The food was outstanding and some of the best guacamole I have ever had. I ordered a delicious steak bowl and sat at The bar. Plenty of seating and good counter space. My friends and I had a really great time at Anejo in Cape Cod. This is a really beautiful restaurant and we went on a Saturday and sat outdoors. Their outdoor space is incredible and the vibes were perfect with cute lights and decorations amidst the perfect weather. My friend and I split the tres tacos ($19), which were small, but really flavorful with carne asada, carnitas, and pollo elotes. I really enjoyed them. We also got queso ($7), which was divine and is one of my favorite dishes. They give out free chips and salsa too! We were very pleased with how flavorful everything was. Let me just say, this is a restaurant for tourists. It's beautiful inside and out on their patio. The patio was actually a longer wait, so we opted to sit inside. The drinks here are hit or miss. My husband got the namesake Anejo and it did not disappoint. Very strong and flavorful, well-worth the price. I got the strawberry coconut, and I understand it's a "skinny" version, but there was very little alcohol and flavor to this. Don't waste your money on this drink. The service was also a bit slow. It took forever for a server to come and take our order. I was almost going to give up after 15 mins. And our section wasn't even that busy. The couple next to us was leaving, and several parties already had food. This is pretty bad considering they're trying to be "upscale" Mexican. For the food... it was only ok. The complimentary chips and salsa was woefully underseasoned. Chips leaning towards overfried. We both got tacos -- I had the trio while my husband opted for carne asada. Prices were ok, but again underseasoned. I did not like the carne asada as it lacked a lot of flavor (not just salt! like actual flavor). The carnitas were tasty but were drowning in oil when I took it off the plate. The chicken needed a bit more salt. Honestly not a very authentic Mexican restaurant, but if you want a pretty place to snack or have drinks, I would come here. read more

This spot was beautiful, both inside the restaurant and under the massive beautiful tree. I have never experience ambiance like this. The cocktails were great and so was the food. Everyone was very happy with their choices! Our server, Kiley was absolutely amazing. Cute and vibey. Apparently turns into a lounge/club place at night but very clean and nice. Went on Sunday in January and they were well staffed. I think we were the start of a lunch rush (off the ferry). Service was quick and food didn't take long. Salsa and guac with our chips were very fresh tasting. Salsa wasn't too spicy. We got a second basket of chips and salsa just before we got to the bottom of our first basket which was nice. I got the tres tacos. Definitely suggest. You get a mix of the tacos. Pulled pork, steak, then chicken. All were flavorful and there was plenty of protein which is always a concern for me. read more

Decided to try Anejo in Hyannis for my wife's birthday. We have been to the Falmouth location, but this location is roomier and you have the big beech tree out if you decide to sit out back. There were four of us for dinner, and we showed up right before 5PM and were greeted and sat down immediately indoors as it was too cold to sit outside. Our waitress came by with chips and salsa which we devoured. She was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable whenever we had any questions. We started out with drinks two Cucumber Margaritas, Espresso Martini, and a glass of wine. All drinks were very tasty and reasonably priced. We shared the Spicy Fried Pickles for an appetizer. They were crispy and full of flavor and the dipping sauce was good as well. I ended up getting the carne asada taco's. There were three of them and very flavorful, the meat was juicy even though I got them without the avocado sauce (allergic to avacodos). Our son in law got the birria quesadilla, dear daughter ordered a bowl of refried beans, and a bowl of mexican street corn, and finally my wife ordered the carnitas verde burrito plate. The food was sooooo good and plentiful. We did not leave hungry. We finished the celebration meal with four shots of chilled Casamigos tequila. Recent visit was a solid 3.5-4 stars, but I'm confident that this place could/should be at a 4.5 rating. The issue is consistency! Chips and salsa (complimentary) were absolutely fantastic! Some of the freshest chips and perfectly spiced salsa I've had in a while! The appetizer we got (Birria Quesadilla) was likewise really great. Texture, flavor, condiments all worked very well together. Our entrees (aside from the Tres Enchiladas which were overall quite good) were each just lacking in one or more areas. I got the Taco Trio (sampler). The chicken was amazing (9.5/10), the carne asada was good but a little lacking in flavor/some rough meat (7/10), but the pork was so dry as to almost be leather (2/10). Very disappointing! The Chicken over rice entree was great in terms of the rice (cool idea with the risotto!), but the chicken again was overly dry. We all agreed this dish could have benefited from the addition of some other flavor "pop." Perhaps plantain? Service was fair but nothing special, and ambiance was quite nice (back room was interesting!). Wondering if we'll venture back to give it another go. read more

My family and I are very disappointed with our recent experience at Anejo. this has been our favorite Mexican yesterday for years and the ONLY one with impressive and different chicken tacos that are actually good. We used to rave about anejo to our friends. BUT they have now CHANGED the way they make these! The chicken is shredded instead of diced and there's red onions and NO SWEET CORN. TERRIBLE DECISION!!! Walked in on a crazy busy Friday night. Seated inside straight away. Services was slower due to the crowd, but the food on point. I had the pork carnitas adobo. First hits sweet then a little heat follows. The flavors of pineapple, plantain, and spices is magic. Wifey went mahi mahi and really enjoyed it. Kids had various tacos. A spectacular restaurant in downtown Hyannis. We stopped by on our way to see Los Lobos and were stunned by the attention to detail from the restaurant. The food was simply outstanding, I had the steak tacos and Rebecca had an unbelievable chicken chimichanga. The bartender was easily the finest we have had on the cape with just excellent conversation and knowing exactly what was where and all that, total top shelf. The atmosphere in the place is quite remarkable, it looks just perfect and luxurious but is definitely user friendly all over. It was remarkable to see them go from 4-5pm and see the whole place just fill up. It was a wonderful debut to us from them and we will hopefully be back there as soon as we can. read more

We used the join waitlist feature on the Fourth of July and had about a 30 minute wait. It's great because you can check back and see where you stand in line. When we arrived, I ordered the mango habanero margarita, which was very strong. I actually couldn't finish it. The chips and salsa were amazing! I ordered the taco salad with chicken which was very good! My husband ordered the black bean and chorizo soup as well as the shrimp and avocado salad. He said it was excellent! What a lovely environment. We sat in the back under a giant tree and surrounded by chic, modern decor that was friendly and inviting. The food was very good. The salad was a sizable portion and tasty but did have a lot of dressing. The Baja tacos were covered in a delicious sauce but the fish could have used more seasoning. The tres tacos were delicious and offered a nice sampler of the menu. The service was quick and attentive for how busy it was. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants on this strip and for quality, ambiance and portion, this is in my own opinion the best place. Would recommend. read more

Came by for Memorial Day weekend and it was packed! We were able to get a table around 9pm on Saturday after about a 15 min wait. We ordered drinks at the bar while we waited and the mango margarita was pretty good! Once we were seated we ordered a few apps. The corn off the cob had an up charge to "take it off the cob," it was actually just corn kernels with some cheese. I would not recommend it, it was terrible. We also had the calamari & fried plantains. Both were delicious! Highly recommend both of those apps, especially the plantains. We also had micheladas and they were quite spicy. Reasonably priced and bar service was good even though they were slammed. The tree makes this place. Always a fun time and the rating is really more for the ambiance & service. read more

This place is amazing! Wait time: it was a beautiful Saturday night so we (2 ppl) planned on there being a long wait to sit under outside under the tree. We arrived at 6:15 and were told the wait was 1.25-1.5 hours long, so we popped into stores on the Main Street. We ended up getting called for our table at 7:00, so only a 45 minutes wait! Food: we have been here before and we love the food! Chips and salsa are brought to the table, and then we ordered queso and the elote corn. Each was great, and we wish we got a second order of the corn! For entrees, we got the chicken enchiladas and tres tacos which were amazing. The rice with the enchiladas had a little kick to it. Then for dessert, we got fried ice cream. It was very good, ratio of ice cream to whip cream / fried dough was a little off - would've preferred more ice cream though. A lot of bites were just whip cream and dough, but still tasted fantastic. Drinks: we got the Añejo and the jalapeño guava margarita, which were both amazing. Service: service was good. A little slow, but understandable given how busy it is. Atmosphere: it was amazing. Stopped into Anejo for their "Taco Tuesday" deal and left happy. This was my first dining experience in their new lounge area, which was really cool. It's very vibey in there- dark patterned wallpaper, a velvet couch in the waiting area, some pops of neon pink. Great atmosphere! Our server was funny and helpful, our food came out quickly and was delicious.
