Okra Fries
Tarsha A.

Love this place!! The rustic/natural beauty of the restaurant is always nice and cozy. Everyone is always sooooooo friendly and nice!! Specials are always tempting, and last night I gave in! We started with the Okra "Fries", which was surprisingly amazing and full of flavor. Hoping they keep it on the menu. I Chose the Crab stuffed catfish over pimento cheese grits was the catch of the day and it did not disappoint. Fish was cooked to perfection and the grits were nice and creamy, even my leftovers this morning were great (grits weren't stiff at all). Tasted a piece of the fried chicken and it was great too. That oyster spot downtown cannot touch Angel Oaks fried chicken, and I've tried both!! The icing on the cake is ALWAYS the beignets. We shared and all agreed, it's a must when dining here. Look forward to my next visit.

Shrimp and grits

Food is amazing! Started with an Arnold Palmer and sweet and it's freshly brewed. To start had the crab cake. Absolutely delicious!! Followed with the shrimp platter and fries, which came with a side of their col slaw. And lastly the shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes. Everything was delicious, fresh, and mouth watering. The service was impeccable, and the ambiance at 11:30am on a Saturday was quiet with music in the background and you could have a great conversation at your table no issue. Hands down would come back again.

Wow! Best fried chicken I have had in a very long time. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly crispy. The shrimp & grits also the best we've had in the Charleston area. We were incredibly impressed, and couldn't believe we waited so long to get here. The speakeasy in the back building is such a cozy and friendly little lounge, we can't wait to come back for music and trivia nights!!

This is such a little gem of a restaurant if you've never been. The ambience and décor are just lovely, and the service and food seriously just speak for themselves. Their Piggy Mac & Cheese is just delicious! Tender Pulled Pork at the bottom, topped with Mac & Cheese with even more cheddar cheese sprinkled on top and last but not least Bacon crumbles. Honestly, the most memorable Mac & Cheese I've had to date at a restaurant. Highly recommend if you're look for a nice little place for Lunch or Dinner.

I drive past here on my daily commute & wanted to give it a try. I'm glad I suggested it to my boyfriend for date night. The building is tiny but it has a rustic feel on the inside. Despite its size, it wasn't loud (or busy) for 7 pm on a Friday. The food was flavorful and the drinks tasty. After our meal we headed out back the speakeasy. There was a musician playing guitar & singing. I also noticed a back porch with outdoor seating. We could have ordered food in there as well. We preferred the vibe of the speakeasy due to the music. Overall both places were nice and the food delicious.

Our first try for a Saturday 5:00pm dinner at Angel Oak Restaurant on Route 17 in Johns Island. Unfortunately as we entered, we did not receive a pleasant greeting just seated us without a smile. Hopefully this was just an off moment. We enjoyed a very yummy Salad of the day which was sautéed shrimp salad. The shrimp was very bland and tender, served over fresh large spinach leaves with hard boiled eggs, diced tomatoes, bacon and blue cheese crumble, served with very tasty blue cheese and balsamic dressings on the side. Everything tasted fresh and nicely prepared, making it a light yet satisfying light meal. The place definitely filled up. It is one room on the small side, low ceilings, almost cottage like. Service was average. Waters weren't refilled and this was before it got busy. Parking is tight and there is a cocktail lounge out back in what appeared to be a large shed. No real glaring negatives but not impressed enough to return right away with so many wonderful restaurant options in the Charleston area.

oh. my. goodness. GO GO GO GO GO!!! and get yourself the fried chicken, coated in delicious honey. The fried green tomatoes app was so good especially with the pimento cheese, a southern staple. The mac n cheese was an unexpected favorite. Genuinely everyone was ecstatic with their food - cheeseburger, shrimp and grits, its all good!! It can be tricky to get large groups sat, so give a call and they will try to accommodate!

Steak Frites

My girlfriend and I stopped into Angel Oak for lunch and tried the steak frites. We were both really impressed. The steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The fries were crispy and hit the spot. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was great. Definitely a solid lunch spot to have just down the street. We'll be back for sure.

This is the shrimp platter, Amazing The team there is super friendly and amazing. We had a great time , very lowkey and good vibe. A++

My recommendation is to download the app or visit their Facebook page every Sunday night for the "Bagel of the Day" schedule. They are only available on that day and once those bagels are gone, they are gone. Some cream cheese spreads are also seasonal- for example, pimento cheese cream cheese during late April and early May for the Masters Golf Tournament. My favorite bagel on the regular menu is the Cheddar Jalapeno, which has just enough heat with the peppers backed in and cheese on top. My favorite daily bagels are the Baked Ziti, Chatfield, and Three Cheese Pizza. You can earn rewards on the app based on how much you spend, and you can also order ahead of time on the app. I don't order on the app because the service is always quick, and I'm never ordering more than a few bagels anyway. The cashiers here are always friendly; they seem genuinely happy to see you and happy to be working here (which you don't see in most franchise/chain restaurants). They will let you sample a cream cheese spread if you're curious. This location has very little indoor seating, so plan to take your bagel to go. Stono River County Park is just over the bridge if you want to do a little picnic there. Hopefully as more businesses come to this shopping center, we will have outdoor tables and chairs.

It was so good I had to go back! The Brunch bowl is what I order both times ( I wish I tried something else) and the "grit balls" were delicious. Service was fast and prompt even with a full house. And the woman at the counter (she was in the kitchen and ran food, greeted guests as they pick up their food, possibly a chef) was EXTREMELY nice and outgoing. She seemed to really enjoy her position and kept order in the kitchen. Food was delicious if I haven't already said so, so much flavor, a Carolina quality kinda spot! The parking lot was packed, and most tables were already taken when we walked in, which is always a good sign. You order at the counter and then grab a seat while they bring the food out to you. The menu is extensive, with plenty of dishes built around grits (as the name suggests). I went with the chicken and waffles, and it was loaded with flavor--crispy fried chicken breasts, a Belgian waffle, chunks of bacon, and a blueberry compote on the side. The whole plate was enormous; I definitely didn't finish it. My husband ordered the fried chicken and fish platter with French fries, and it was equally generous in size. We also started with the grit fritters as an appetizer, and they were fantastic--crispy on the outside and a nice surprise inside. Overall, the food was really on point with big, satisfying portions. The waitstaff seemed super busy but stayed friendly and attentive. The only downside for me was having to bus your own table at the end. Prices for lunch felt a little high at first glance, but when you consider the huge portions, they're pretty reasonable. We'll definitely be heading back soon.

Service was painfully slow, it appears they had two servers for the lunch shift, which was not enough, or at least the one serving us could not handle the lunch rush very well. She was working hard, though. It took quite a bit of time for us to even be acknowledged after we were seated. Server did apologize for the delay. Food also took some time to get to us, server also acknowledged this by swinging back by and letting us know that we were up next with food. Lastly, we had to get up and flag our server in order to get a to-go box and bill, as she had not come back by. As far as the food, we all thought our dishes - reuben, spinach salad, rice bowl, and roasted portabella stack were okay. I had the grilled mushroom stack, and while flavorful with the grilled vegetables, it was extremely messy. It was so juicy that it soaked up the bun and it could not be picked up successfully without falling apart. They need to better execute this sandwich - drain off all the excess liquid or use a better bread for the sandwich. Overall, it was fine, but nothing that has me excited to go back. So many better options in Charleston.
