I can't believe I wanted to write this review about one of my favorite places but I have to say something in hopes that they may improve. We arrived for a very late lunch on Saturday, maybe 2:45, we were seated in the new room off the patio. I ordered my favorite Pasta Bolognes. Well ​This "Bolognese" comes out the color of carrot soup on a fluorescent-lit Tuesday--a bright, almost artificial orange that suggests tomatoes once lived here, but have long since been replaced by something far more mysterious. It's the kind of hue you'd expect from Chef Boyardee himself: cheerfully unnatural, unapologetically canned, and glowing with a soft radioactive optimism. No as for the texture, oh my... Soft. Very soft. Almost too soft. The sauce has the smooth, uniform consistency of a purée that has never met a chunk it didn't immediately defeat. Any "meat" present has been reduced to tiny, ambiguous flecks--more of a suggestion than an ingredient. It clings to the pasta like a warm hug from a distant relative you don't quite remember. After several minutes of devouring the well cooked pasta I did to my surprise discover a bit of meat that would cover a nickel. The taste, well it's Luke this, Sweet, tangy, and unmistakably processed. Imagine a whisper of ground beef surrounded by tomato sweetness, softened vegetables, and that unique signature flavor of "I came from a can." The dish carries a comforting nostalgia--the kind that reminds you of microwave dinners, childhood afternoons, and knowing deep down that true Italian chefs would weep if they saw it. It's not authentic. It's not rustic. But it's absolutely Chef Boyardee: soft, orange, nearly meatless, Just as we were about to dsh off to an appointment I over heard the table next to ours ordering a side of sausage to go with his Pasta Bolognase he had just ordered. The waitress said to the patron, sir the Bolognase is a heart meat sauce. I nodded to the table and uttered I would get those sausages and a side of meat balls as well. Between the staff (shoutout to Jenna and Susie), flavorful food, and service--you can't go wrong dinning at Angelo's Taverna. We love that they offer gluten-free pasta and pizza and their oyster and muscles. Today I had the Italian White Bean Soup and my partner had the Meatball and Sausage Sliders (not GF) along with the Chargrilled Oyster Special (Chipotle Bourbon Butter, Bacon and Gorgonzola, Chorizo & Chili & Original). We also love that Angelo's is located in a neighborhood which feels like a cozy old Italian vibe mixed with a sports bar feel (this restaurant was built in the 70s). I heard tell of one of the greatest happy Hours in Denver and Finally made the voyage across town to experience it. As someone who is passionate about HH, you can take my word that Angelo's is a certified winner. Friendly and efficient staff. Classic Italian vibe, evident both by the menu and the decor. Oysters are a big appeal here. When you can get oysters for $1.25 a pop in Denver, you can't pass it up. Fresh and better than expected for the price. Toasted ravioli was delicious, for two hungry people it's a perfect appetizer. The Caesar salad was tasty but the dressing was a little watery. Maybe ask for it on the side if you are picky. You can't go wrong with a eight dollar mini pizza. Perfect for one person tasty and satisfies the pizza craving. Great beer and wine selection. Really glad we finally had the chance to dine here! The oysters were fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. The pasta stood out as excellent. The pizza was flavorful as well, though it came loaded with toppings, arguably a bit too much. It reminded me more of a Chicago-style deep dish, quite heavy overall, so a thinner Margherita option would have been nice. Despite that, it was still enjoyable. I have no excuse or explanation for why I have never been to Angelo's before, despite having lived five minutes away for 30 years--but I am kicking myself about my poor decision making. My friend and I finally gave Angelo's a try for their amazing happy hour and were thoroughly satisfied. We sat in a comfortable booth near the bar and enjoyed the heavenly atmosphere. The stained glass windows made me feel like we were at the church of pasta. The staff was great; very helpful and quite efficient. All of the food came out very quickly and was piping hot. The first available staffer appeared to bring out each item, so nothing sat waiting for our server to have time to find it. Angelo's has gone through a number of changes over the years, but these days it's Angelo's Taverna and it's owned by the Carboy Winery group. They run a tight ship. Angelo's does not take reservations, but you can call several days in advance to put your name on the waiting list. You go to the top of the list as soon as you check in. I had a very generous glass of syrah from the Carboy section of the wine list. My friend had a Manhattan (served with a trendy, single, large ice cube) and said it was first-rate. We started with oysters, a combination of the raw house oyster of the day and the "original" chargrilled oysters. The raw oysters were fresh and delicious, but the chargrilled oysters were amazing. They were the largest oysters we had even seen. The garlic butter sauce with herbs, spices, and pecorino cheese was perfect and the oysters were exceptionally tender and flavorful. Wow, what a great start! We then tried the crab cake sliders which were much larger than I anticipated, full of crab, on a nice bun, and with arugula and a tasty remoulade. The toasted ravioli were next, perfectly prepared, and with a really excellent marinara. We finished with Caesar salads--perfectly chilled and with a delightful, fresh dressing. Angelo's is the perfect neighborhood bar: welcoming, comfortable, a great selection of well-prepared drinks, and a good selection of delicious food. We opted for Italian food on our second night in Denver. Our foursome went for, lasagna, a customer calzone, Pappardelle, and penne in vodka sauce with a meatball! The calzone was big, portions hearty with pastas. Homemade pastas were cooked to perfection, and the meatball was tender and good size. Sauces were made in house. The vodka sauce had a slight kick and was creamy and delicious. This is a popular spot so you might have a wait. Service was good and everyone was hustling hard. Let me start by saying I have been here before and had an absolutely incredible time so I decided to come again. I showed up at 5:00p.m. put my name on the list because I knew my party was big the wait time was about 45 minutes to an hour which is definitely reasonable for a party of 10 on a Tuesday. But then we realized the wait was going to be two hours! Susie the manager did her best to make us happy especially because 6 out of the 10 were kids under 9. But when she left things took a big turn! The host became rude with us and made us wait another 20 minutes because they were setting up our table. The waitress Veronica was rude to us like we were an inconvenience. I really wish I could give this place five stars because of Susie and the food is amazing. An early double date for a friends birthday brought us in on a Wednesday afternoon. Surprised to see the bar area with a small crowd. Venue is cool with some great architecture elements, small with the atmosphere of a nice restaurant/neighborhood bar vibe. Parking lot behind, must enter off Washington as one way entry with alley exit. Prices are reasonable and portions generous. We ordered a meatball slider and calamari (I did not try) for starters. My friends said good, but not enough calamari, too many peppers. The meatball was good, maybe slightly bland. Entrees were chicken parm, eggplant parm, bison ravioli and pollo angelito, all enthusiastically devoured. Each entree was very good. Glad we have Angelo's Taverna a try. read more

I want to start off by how impressed and customer focused the staff were to my friend and I while we were both dining here for our first time. Both managers come out to check on us and our experience, which made us feel very welcomed and cared for. I also want to give a special acknowledgement to Sierra, who took excellent care of us and went above and beyond by talking about recommended dishes and letting us know what would be the best for our desired experience. The food had an excellent balance of flavor and truly felt as if it was made in an Italian grandmothers kitchen. Tonight me and my partner went to Angelo's for Mollusk Mondays and's happy hour and it did not disappoint. We got there late like 20 minutes before close but they still gotta sat down. The service was so good, the manager stepped in to help his staff and took our order right away. we got our food within 10/15 minutes.. and we weren't rushed to leave or anything. We were able to eat our food pack up our leftovers and we left about half hour after they closed and they didn't complain at all. We sat on the patio. It was really pretty. Classic Italian dishes with great ingredients are waiting for you just south of Downtown Denver. The restaurant may not seem large but there is a patio with strong heaters and a second room hidden on the other side of the patio. We started with oysters, lamb lollipops, and arancini which were all delicious and delivered quickly. I enjoyed the bison ravioli which presented a nice balance between the pasta and marinara. They have everything from pizza to pasta to calzones and eggplant Parmesan. I can't wait to return on my next trip to Denver read more

Loved the stained glass windows and brickwork of this little spot that has been around for 50 years serving Italian food to the Denver community. We ordered the mussels for an appetizer and selected the chipotle chorizo style which was something new and fun we haven't had before. The garlic bread is amazing and I can only imagine how their pizzas taste. Had the ragú de Capra with pappardelle noodles which is made in house! Delicious! Husband had the lobster gnocchi which I tasted and loved the sauce. The limoncello is also made in house and it's strong but tastes exactly as it should! Cannolis also a good little dessert. Thee ambiance is really nice. The restaurant is quite small so making a reseervation is key. They have a good wine selection. I like anything with Penne. I prefer chicken or seafood especially the lobster. For this visit I had the Beef Carpaccio, Lamb lolipops, and the Penne Pollo. My boyfriend had the lobster Gnocchi. Both were superb. I wish I had more leftovers because that dinner was slammin. The service is outstanding. Big shout out to Karamy for hooking us up with the best table in the house. I ordered the Pollo Angelito per the server's recommendation. Disappointedly, it was VERY BLAND! After I put a heavy dash of salt and pepper on the dish it was good.
