This restaurant is a great neighborhood Italian restaurant located in downtown Denver in Alamo Placita Park. I used to live in this neighborhood and always love everything I get at this restaurant. Thee ambiance is really nice. The restaurant is quite small so making a reseervation is key. They have a good wine selection. I like anything with Penne. I prefer chicken or seafood especially the lobster. For this visit I had the Beef Carpaccio, Lamb lolipops, and the Penne Pollo. My boyfriend had the lobster Gnocchi. Both were superb. I wish I had more leftovers because that dinner was slammin. The service is outstanding. Big shout out to Karamy for hooking us up with the best table in the house. Classic Italian dishes with great ingredients are waiting for you just south of Downtown Denver. The restaurant may not seem large but there is a patio with strong heaters and a second room hidden on the other side of the patio. We started with oysters, lamb lollipops, and arancini which were all delicious and delivered quickly. I enjoyed the bison ravioli which presented a nice balance between the pasta and marinara. Angelo's Taverna was an excellent choice for our New Year's Eve dinner a few weeks ago. The space is a bit tight with a lively atmosphere. Making a reservation ahead of time was a good call as the place was jamming, but this could be different on a non-holiday weekend. Parking was also hit or miss given it is right off of 6th Ave. We found the service to be excellent, offering various recommendations across the menu for starters and entrees, ensuring our waters were always filled, and everyone always had a smile on their face. I can't speak high enough about the Chipotle Bourbon Butter Oysters which we started with! Each ingredient felt carefully picked as they all blended so well (Breckenridge bourbon, chipotle, adobo, brown sugar). As a big oyster fan, I look forward to testing out the four other options. The Fancy Italian Salad (regular size) is plenty for two. You really couldn't ask for more out of an Italian salad with the salami, olives, garbanzo, etc. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for some greens. I personally can't resist ravioli, let alone BISON ravioli. My gosh was this delicious. The marinara tasted so fresh with a velvety texture. The bison itself was heavenly while the garlic butter gave it a chef's kiss. My wife went with the Lobster Gnocchi and was oh so happy. I haven't had lobster-tomato sauce with gnocchi, making this a huge winner. I wish she gave me more as a seafood lover. Wrapping things up, the Cannolis made for an excellent to-go dessert. Short wait in the hallway on the seats, no problem. The parking was horrible. There really isn't any. I tried to park behind the building, but the stalls were so narrow I could not open my door so I had to park almost 2 blocks away.. I was hungry, so I just wanted to get my meal . The bison ravioli; my entrée, arrived before my salad, but no problem. It was different for me, but it tasted good, and I was pleased with that. The salad looks pretty good in the picture, but it was pretty average. Service was cordial and helpful and they did refill my water glass. We love the pizza here but for the last couple months we can't get a fully cooked pizza when we order takeout. Tonight was the last straw. Our takeout pizza wasn't even half baked. Food safety aside it's disgusting to bite into a half raw pizza. I've reached out previously to management but it keeps happening. We are done with this place. read more

Really friendly and helpful staff, cool atmosphere, and really amazing homemade pasta! Loved the stained glass windows and brickwork of this little spot that has been around for 50 years serving Italian food to the Denver community. We ordered the mussels for an appetizer and selected the chipotle chorizo style which was something new and fun we haven't had before. The garlic bread is amazing and I can only imagine how their pizzas taste. Had the ragú de Capra with pappardelle noodles which is made in house! Delicious! Husband had the lobster gnocchi which I tasted and loved the sauce. The limoncello is also made in house and it's strong but tastes exactly as it should! Cannolis also a good little dessert. We sat outside and it was a cute setting. Lively and nice. The standout for me was the char grilled oysters. I'm not generally an oyster fan but this was great and I'd go again. Everything else I tasted as good but not something to bring me back craving more . (Chicken parm, chile relleno ravioli, lobster gnocchi, bolognese). I went here on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was packed and very loud. Luckily I didn't have to wait as they also have an outdoor patio with seating. I ordered the Pollo Angelito per the server's recommendation. Disappointedly, it was VERY BLAND! After I put a heavy dash of salt and pepper on the dish it was good. We definitely got too much food!!! But everything was so good. It was happy hour, so of course we ordered a half dozen $1.25 each raw oysters. They were fresh and some of the best we've had in Colorado. We also had a crab cake slider, the sauce and arugula complimented the thick crab cake perfectly. I just wish I could get a whole plate! We then ordered the burrata (the pink salt on top was a nice touch) all the dips accompanying it were great, the olive tapenade was my favorite, it was smooth and salty. I had to try the mushroom gnocchi salad as well... the fried gnocchis were just okay but the rest of the salad was delicious and a massive portion. I should've taken some of that truffle dressing to go. I will be thinking of that dressing every night for the rest of my life. The pappardelle bolognese was tasty a nice smokey flavor. Nice and rich. I ordered the white bean soup for my daughter (15 months old) she loved every bite!!! I really wanted to take pictures cause every plate looked as good as they tasted, but that's why I just decided to dig in. My only regret was not having a little house made limoncello after dinner. All the more reason to come back! All of the staff were super friendly and professional. When I don't have my baby with me, I'd love to sit at the beautiful bar inside. read more

I'm giving 4/5 stars because my two complaints would be the wine selection wasn't great, all the reds tasted pretty acidic to me and I had tasters of 5. Also my pasta was a bit clumped together under the sauce where I would just eat bundles of noodles stuck together into a little brick which wasn't great. This was my first time at Angelo's. We got a table for happy hour with 3 minutes to spare and ordered the crab cake sliders and oysters. I am not a fan of shellfish or mollusks but the chargrilled oyster blew me away! It was buttery and garlicky. The space is small but the tables are nice. There's also seating at the bar. Checked out Angelo's taverna with a friend the other day for an early dinner. The restaurant was quite busy with about a 30 minute wait. There was plenty of seating in the waiting area. We ordered the chargrilled oysters which seems to be the star at Angelo's. They were absolutely tasty, served with garlic butter toast. We also had their penne ala vodka with sausage which was also great. Their limoncello is vapor distilled in-house and has quite the punch! I highly recommend it if you're in to that kind of thing. Great little spot to have a nice meal and some great conversation. Our server, Tommy, was absolutely fantastic. It made our dining experience memorable and infinitely better! Bravo! read more

Definitely a great casual Italian restaurant with delicious food and great staff. Because we had an hour wait to get a table, we sat at the bar by the kitchen area. We were able to see the kitchen preparing food and the bartenders making drinks. They have a good wine selection and the margarita they made for us was delicious with fresh squeezed lime (no mixer). For dinner I ordered the Higher Ground pizza and it was delicious - definitely more than one person could eat. Others at the table had the Vodka Penne which they all raved about. I have been going here for over 20 years and have enjoyed the food. I have not been for the last year though so I am not sure if they have changed chef or what. I ordered the Pappardelle Bolognese which I have ordered there many times in the past. My friend ordered the same dish. The dish arrived and to our surprise it was hardly present of meat? It looked more like a Vodka sauce dish with a dash of the smallest pieces of crumbles of meat and when I say smallest amount I mean it! I asked the waitress if there was a mistake as we had both asked for Bolognese. She said it was the Bolognese and said "look there is a piece of meat" and pointed to a small piece of ground meat. The "Pappardelle" was very thick and doughy. It was not made or cooked well so it was sticking together like dough balls. My friend said she felt like she was eating poorly made gnocchi because it was so thick and stuck together. It was really disappointing and even more so when the waitress felt the meal was acceptable to be served. read more

Oh la la! Fantastic Italian food in a sweet location. They do have parking in the back if you're lucky enough to snag a spot. Otherwise, it's street parking. I liked the open window vibe and the rustic feel of the restaurant. It's not awfully big, so a reservation might be required on certain days and times of the week. The music was vibey and at just the right volume. The service was probably my least favorite of the experience. Our waiter was pretty cut and dry and the food took a little longer than expected. Penne Vodka with Burrata. De-licious! I would come back here over and over just for this. There was a plethora of sauce and it was so creamy and perfect. I visited Angelo's 4 years ago on a trip to Denver and had a great time. So when I came back to Denver, I was determined to go back. First off the service here was amazing! I came back to have the mushroom and eggplant pizza and the chargrilled oysters which were surprisingly good for a land locked state. This time again both of these items were great! We wanted to try out a few more dishes so I ordered the Crab Cake Slider, the Chile Relleno Ravioli, and the Calamari. Unfortunately the new dishes were not as flavorful as the first we'd tried. Because the crab cake was breaded and deep fried, the breading overwhelmed the flavor of the crab. The crab also had a softer, mushier texture compared to if they had added a pan fried crab cake. The Chile Relleno Ravioli was recommended as a special but I didn't taste more than the average cheese ravioli. The peppers didn't lend much flavor to the dish. Speaking of peppers, looking at the description for the Calamari and seeing all the different peppers made me think it would have a little spice to the dish. Instead I found the dish to be overly sweet and the breading on the calamari, potentially semolina, to leave a gritty texture in my mouth. Overall I'd come back again for the pizza and skip on the rest of the items. read more

As someone who has made numerous French onion soups myself, I had high hopes--but this experience was a major letdown. The manager, instead of resolving the issue professionally, seemed to take my complaint personally. When I raised concerns about the soup, he shrugged it off by saying, "It shouldn't be on our takeout menu." Frankly, that's not an excuse--it's an admission of failure. If something isn't suited for takeout, it shouldn't be offered in the first place. Per his request, I walked to the back of the restaurant where he had me open the container and show the "chef". Inside was a lukewarm broth with strands of shredded cheese floating around. No melt, no depth--just a sad, soupy mess. He insisted that this was what I should expect when ordering French onion soup to-go. To avoid "causing a scene," he had a kitchen staff member bring out a hastily thrown-together replacement, which wasn't any better. Hoping the rest of the order would redeem the experience, I got home and opened a pizza topped with feta--only to find a laughable scattering of cheese covering a mere one- to two-inch radius in the mid. (Photo attached for proof.) The menu sounded promising, but the execution was a disaster. I'll give it one more shot in person to see if this was just an off night--but I left deeply disappointed by the food, the takeout system, and the lack of accountability. read more
