The service wasn't the worst but took a while to get drinks and food. There is not enough seating indoors for the amount of patrons frequenting but the cold weather drive people inside. The bouncers were the biggest issue. One of the bouncers tried to pick fights with patrons on more than one occasion. He was a power hungry lunatic. On our way out of the bar he tried to pick a fight and the other bouncers had to pull him back. I can speak for myself and the rest of my group and none of us will be returning. Advice I would give to management is to find new bouncers and find a way to make the outdoor section more comfortable for patrons during the cooler months. read more

Clean bathrooms, nice atmosphere, good beers, friendly, family environment, secure place, pet friendly and people (customers) are well behaved. I LOVE seeing everyone getting along with different teams and instead of being mean to each other like at most bars. (This is why I don't go out as much sometimes but I went for a friend). The internet can learn a lot from these people...(a joke).... I am a Carolina Panther fan and I got to hang out with Green Bay Packers people, I saw one Atlanta Falcon fan, NY Giants and etc...One Raven fan..It was AMAZING. This is the only place I found in Charlotte that has Abita Strawberry beer, so that's a huge plus! They used to be a Packers bar which was really fun, but it doesn't seem like they are any more which is a downer for me. We still like to go there for NCAA basketball games. read more

My husband and I frequent Ales a good bit as it is dog friendly and we can walk there from our house. Inside is spacious with loads of seating. We typically sit outside and never have a problem getting a table. The staff always brings water out for our pup which is a nice touch. Most recently we came on Sunday for some Bloody Mary's. On Sunday the mimosas are on special (I believe it is $3 or $12 a bottle) and the bloodies are $5. Their Bloody Mary's are simple but very very good. Not sure what mix they use but it works. All the food is pretty decent. This past Sunday we just got a side order with fries. They have the good ranch, btw. However, I also like their pickle chips, protein plate, and burgers. read more

I've been to Ale's several times and I've never been impressed. Anytime I go there again to meet friends I leave wondering why I came back again. They did do a nice renovation/makeover. The patio is gorgeous with lots of seating so they are dog friendly should I want to bring your fur baby. We took advantage of the happy hour specials. All appetizers between 5pm-6pm are $5 and between 6pm-7pm are $6.We ordered a couple of things off the menu to share. First off, we split an order of wings. Those must have been he wimpiest chickens to roam the area. There was BARELY any meat on the bone. (wings are not part of the happy hour special) We tried toe totachos which is basically nachos on top of tater tots. I don't know why we ordered it but it didn't taste good. Tots were soggy and there really weren't many toppings on the tots. We did enjoy the eggrolls. I didn't know about the corn and my friend doesn't like cilantro but they were our favorite thing we sampled. Look, Angry Ale's wasn't a bad experience. The waitress was great and they had good drink specials. But... their food is really lacking. Everything was bland and we actually left still hungry because the wings were so tiny and we were unable to enjoy the totachos. I doubt I will be back. There's so many other restaurants that have better food on Montford so I think I will stick with them. It's not a place to bring children or expect gourmet cuisine. It's not the nicest sports bar I've ever been to, but it's certainly not the diviest. I ordered the Baby Burger w/cheese - A 4 ounce patty with cheddar, lettuce, tomato on a toasted bun. I choose sweet potato fries as my side. The juicy burger was just enough to satisfy me and I adored the toasted bun. The fries were a total winner - nicely cut sweet potato fries with cinnamon sugar dusted over the top. NOM. Food was pretty good (it's a bar I don't expect amazing food) and drinks was for the most part good (mason jar did taste kinda watered down though which was kinda disappointing because it was around $28 for each mason jar) however service was very slow so I took off my point for that. So this place gets a 3.5 Stars from me. It's a sports bar... not my typical m.o., but good for groups if you are with a bunch of drooling sports fans. Away from my home turf on the recent Nuggets playoff run, I found AAs a go to spot to watch the game. The staff and crowd was friendly and accepting of my explicit Nuggets fanship, as I was clad in a jersey and not without boisterous comments. Also, I made it here on Wednesday for trivia night, which was awesome. I am a regular trivia geek at Woody's Pizza in Arvada, CO...thus it was quite interesting to be exposed to a different format. I found the competition stiff, the questions written with wit and intelligence, and the overall experience quite invigorating. Finally, on this most recent trip to AAs I noticed how friendly the wait staff is. They truly do epitomize a sense of Southern Hospitality that is difficult to find elsewhere. What makes AA so great? Patio, Patio, Patio! Location helps too... it's located off of Montford so it's pretty easy to walk to after some bowling or drinking at the other "hot" spots to go to. A good bit of space inside as well on the colder, not so nice days to be inside. Tons of TVs to catch sports games and a variety of menu items to keep the drinking stomach fueled and ready to process more alcohol... or whatever spirits you deem worthy. The parking for AA's is like other places on Montford, a bit of a challenge. Never-the-less on the street parking never fails, and there is a decent size lot around the place. Don't park at Andrew Blairs for fear of towing (if in doubt, look for the signs). Had some decent half priced wings on Saturday afternoon on the deck. The atmosphere and quickly prepared wings with some extra wing dipping sauce made my afternoon complete. You can imagine the night I had... since I left my credit card in the bill-fold. Luckily I called the next day and it was waiting for me behind the bar after some photo ID checkage. Cool little bar in Montford. I enjoy going earlier before it gets too crowded & the patio is really nice to watch sports on and enjoy a nice day. They have pretty good drink specials everyday. The first time I went to this resturaunt I knew I would be coming back, and I did...and I brought friends! I would recommend sitting on the patio, even on a warm night! The food is really excellent bar food. I would highly recommend the southwest salad with hot ranch. My husband loves the burgers and macaroni and cheese. Everything on the menu is great. I always thought the restaurant looked a little dingy so that could be a turn off. I also don't care for the dog friendly deck . Yuck. The service is a hit or miss . Some waitresses are great and some barely acknowledge you. I did hear that there were some renovations so I'll have to check it out when I have a chance. I think A-OK is the definition of this establishment. I have been a few times and each time the food and service were fine but not exemplary. The bar specials are pretty decent (Thursdays 32 ounces of a variety of beer, Blue Moon included for $4), but the bar gets so crowded it is a liability to walk around with a beverage. They also have a single bathroom for women which is never enough especially for a bar this size. The inside of the establishment always seems unnecessarily dimly lit as well. The menu, however, does offer a good selection of food for a very reasonable price. My favorite entrée is the $9 protein plate - chicken skewers, zucchini with onion and spinach sautéed with tomato. I love that this bar has a healthy option that does not involve paying $$ for a bag of salad mix like many other bars. And this way I can feel better about downing my 32 ounces of beer. Storms off from the table. 10 minutes later she returns & asks for our IDs after we had provided them at the door then proceeds to tell us she doesn't have to serve us & storms away again. We fortunately didn't get to spend any money there & I wouldn't tip even if we did. I wish I could have given zeros stars. I ordered some boneless wings to go for the first time. There was literally no sauce on the wings. It was completely dry and also requested them to make them extra crispy but they never did. The wings were cold when I received them too. read more

Super super sad to write this review because I have been here so many time but I always sat outside, I have been a server and a bartender but I have never applied for a job I neglected to do. Sarah you're the star of the show. I usually sat outside and had a waitress. I decided to sit at the bar today for the world cup, angry ales opened two hours early and I was very excited. That enthusiasm was INSTANTLY crushed by the bartender Sarah, who looked at us at least two times before asking if we would even like water. The other bartender (I didn't catch her name but she was blonde) was so sweet and VERY frustrated with the other bartender(Sarah) as she continued to yell her name for help while Sarah sipped her Starbucks and chatted with customers. Incredibly disappointed that such a great bar would allow such a fowl presence. The people next to me leaned over and asked if she had helped us yet, nope... some men came to the bar to get faster service and I turned around to say, "oh I would atleast take a seat it will be a long while".. it was a while, they ended up leaving. The place to chill with a few pitchers of beer after a group sport. I've only ever sat in the patio and it's wonderful when the weather is mild, i.e. not humid. Couple of TVs spread around, always tuned into some sports game. Service is really friendly but can be slow, so expect to wait if you need anything from a waiter/ess, unless you chase em down. Food is just aiite, they no longer have the tree hugger burger or portobello burger. Veggie wrap is just okay and fish tacos would be much better if they provided a lime to go with it. Terrible service. At least it was today. Sadly that's all I can rate this place on. Me and my family wanted to try angry ales for the first time and decided to go on a Tuesday for trivia and to hang out on the patio for some food and drinks. Sign at the front says seat yourself, so we did. We chose one of the about 5 empty patio tables. We seen at least 4 servers, after about 8-10 minutes one of the servers (who may have been training another?) said someone would be right with us. But after almost another 10 minutes another server came to us with menus and said she would be right back with water. During the 20 minutes sitting with no service, two additional tables sat after us and got menus, water and drinks. And after sitting for more than 20 minutes with no service, we left. I spoke with the manager before leaving to let him know his servers, I felt like, ignored us. I hate doing this, I work in the service industry, I get being busy and understaffed right now. It's why we waited so long for service. But there is a difference between busy and ignored. Sadly my first impression was not a good one, I will not return or recommend. I may have caught them on a bad day, but it was a really bad day. Giving two starts because the patio was cool and I couldn't rate the drinks or food. read more
