We walked in around 6:30 pm on a Thursday without a reservation, and the restaurant was about 80% occupancy. We were seated right away (table for four), and from the beginning to the end of our experience at Angry Crab Shack, we were treated with the utmost kindness and respect. Our servers (Frank and Bobby) were EXTREMELY attentive and caring, frequently coming to our table to ensure all was well. We ordered A LOT of food. The Surf n Turf order alone was over three pounds of shrimp, lobster tails, corn on the cob, sausages, and boiled eggs, and yet, our entire order came out within 15 minutes. As someone who enjoys seafood, I could tell everything we ordered was fresh and made to order. As you wait for your order, you can't help but notice the two large water tanks with lobsters, king crabs, shrimp, and other live animals. The Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich was great, but nothing too special. Standard chicken sandwich. It could be spicier (on a spiciness scale of 1-5, it's a 2). The Fish & Chips Basket was also great, and I would order again, but the fish-to-batter ratio could've been better. There were a few bites of just batter. The Surf n Turf, well, was excellent. More than enough for four people. It is a bit pricey, but it's well worth it. My only negative review about it is that it's A LOT of shrimp and only two lobster tails. If you don't love shrimp that much, I recommend you order one pound of shrimp and customize your order to tailor your preferences. If you love shrimp, this combination is a must. Much cheaper than ordering three pounds of shrimp from the custom menu. The five stars are not necessarily because the food itself was immaculate. It was undoubtedly great, but nothing that would sweep you off your feet; a standard seafood boil with relatively fresh ingredients. However, the hospitality and service here were outstanding. (Garlic, butter, Cajun spice but I forgot what it was called). The crawfish was small but I think that should be expected because they were frozen and it's out of season. Well for only being there a couple minutes i was honestly disappointed. Ive been to this location plenty of times before. This time however really made it hard to want to have my date night here. We walk in and immediately were "welcomed" by a girl who didn't seem happy to be there or even knew how to do her job. She asked if we wanted a booth or a table and we asked for a booth and instead of asking us to wait a second or giving us a wait time she just had us standing there in silence. The whole interaction was not fun. She was talking with her coworkers and they were both cussing. Which listen, im not a prude its fine if your giving great service but if your doing a crap job and goofing off i don't care to be somewhere ran by children. Not to mention when she went to walk us to our table she had a bad attitude the whole time and i watched her knock stuck food off the menus she was grabbing for us. For my last night in Phoenix three of us decided to try The Angry Crab Shack for dinner. We were all a little skeptical, but when we say the place was pretty full we figured we'd made the right decision When we arrived it was still happy hour so we all ordered beers and The gumbo fries and calamari clam strip combo for appetizers. The waitress explained the menu to us and we all chose to do the seafood pots. Pretty cool concept-you choose your seafood (they come in 1 pound increments only except for the lobster which starts at 1 1/2 pounds), you choose your sauce that they cook it with, you choose your spice level, and then anything else you want in your boil or as a side. I decided on the headless shrimp and the snow crab clusters with the trifecta sauce (lemon, pepper, garlic, and butter) and medium spice (wasn't too spicy at all). I also ordered corn on the cob, coleslaw and garlic bread to sop up the sauce (bread was for the table). My coworkers also both ordered shrimp with one having the snow crab and one having clams. Love that your plate is the table and your utensils are your fingers. Now obviously this was a LOT of food, but it was so over the top delicious that there was nothing left at the end except some bread, a few shrimp, and a few forkfuls of coleslaw. We hammered this food. A word of advise-don't fill up on appetizers and get some spice...it adds to the flavor. As great as this meal was I was so over-full it hurt to walk and I was tasting garlic when I woke up the next morning. Seriously though, everything was great (except the booth was a little tight)...the food and service were excellent, the place was clean, the prices weren't too bad, and the beer was cold. Pictured here is 1 lb of shrimp head off. It was a good amount for 1 lb and I was debating whether they get 2 lb and I'm glad I just got one pound. I selected the trifecta mild and it was delicious and had a little spice to it but nothing like the hotter levels. The tail and shell were easy to take off since they sliced it down the middle to devein it. There was plenty of garlic which was delicious. Preparation of shrimp 10/10. Flavor of trifecta 10/10. Amount expected in a pound 10/10. The fried cod fish meal had a very crispy batter to it but it was very thick as you can see in the photo much thicker than the fish in most of it. I ended up discarding most of the batter because it was just too much. The side items for the fish meal were very small as you can see in the photo. The coleslaw was a sweet creamy flavor and the cabbage was crispy. A side of tartar sauce and ranch dressing came with it as well no additional charge and I did not select it specifically. Better to fish ratio 6/10. Crispiness of batter 10/10. Fish was quite dry, overcooked 7/10. The rice and beans were flavorful even though they didn't look that great visually. Visually 6/10. Taste 7/10. The cornbread was a lot smaller than the picture on the menu. However it's saving Grace was that it was very flavorful much more than most cornbreads and it was hardly grainy at all which made it almost taste like a dessert rather than a cornbread. 10/10 flavor and texture. 7/10 size. Overall entire meal as expected 8/10. Overall satisfaction after eating it 8/10. Side note I have not eaten the jambalaya but the size of the container is about a pint as best I can tell and the cost was $7. In looking at it it seems very rich and flavorful and I expect it to be very tasty. Pricing score 7/10. Quite pricey but as expected for angry Crab shack. read more

Born and raised in Hawaii, I am very fond of eating seafood. Thankfully I'm not allergic to anything so if you have shellfish allergies than you will have a very limited selection of what you can eat here. The menu here is 90% seafood based. This place is located in a very large outdoor shopping area in Deer Valley. Many many shops surround this business so parking is very generous, lots of stalls. The parking lot is uncovered so your car will get toasty in the Phoenix sun. I have been here a total of 4 times. 3 of those times were with my family of 5 and one occasion was solo with my wife and I. This was within a span of 2 months and we've been living here for 3 months so we really like this place. Our dine in checks range from around $290 before tip for 5 of us to about $150 before tip when it was just me and wifey. I'm the kind of person that splurges on experiences and not on physical possessions. I usually dress up in sandals and T-shirt's no matter where I go but I spend like a VIP when it comes to food Wait help: servers have always been super friendly in explaining the menu options and availability of any specials, ingredients in the food, spice levels of all food options, and providing drink refills before they were empty. This was a plus because this place has always been packed every time we've dined in. Being mindful of our drinks is not an easy task when you have another 8 tables to serve also. Menu: I ordered the Dungeness crab, snow crab, and lobster on all my separate visits. When you order lobster, they will ask you what size you prefer. There is a medium option or a large option. I always go for the large. You are charged by the total weight of the lobster per pound. I think my lobster alone was close to $80, it was yummy. My wife ordered shrimp, kids ordered alligator with fries, house salad, salmon. There is a spice level that can be selected that ranges from zero which is none all the way up to like hellfire level. We selected number 1 and it was mildly spicy, just right. Your table is given plastic bibs, a metal bucket for discarded seafood scraps, lobster eating utensils and all other regular eating utensils. Single use hand wipes were provided also as things get messy with opening lobster. There is an open sink available for guests in the dining area to wash your hands with soap and water after your meal. Prices here are mid level to pricey. If you're on a budget than you'd have to be careful here as the top shelf items are billed by the pound and some items have a minimum pound to order. Don't come here expecting Waffle House prices. You get what you pay for, the food here is amazing and worth the high price. They have a full bar in the center of the restaurant and the selection is impressive. There are no complaints about this place expect for an idea. I'd like to pay extra to have my lobster pre-cracked for me. When food is yummy, my patience is thin to shove it down my food disposal mouth. Eating lobster comes with semi wresting the shell off at times and I'm very thorough with lobster. I'll eat the lobster eggs inside that some people are not fans of. Sorry there are no pictures but I can tell you that the food is served hot, fresh and very yummy. My wife happens to be a graduate of a culinary arts school in California so she's a real food critic. She will tell me wether the food is overcooked, over seasoned, unusual texture, etc. We both agree that the food here is amazing so if you have anything bad to say about this place than it is your dysfunctional taste buds that are not operating correctly either through drugs, alcohol, stupidity or a mixture of all 3. The ones at papaduex are much better. Shrimp was great. Super fresh and crunchy. The boil was really good. Tried it in the garlic flavor. Ordered a mojito, it tasted like water with cheap booze. Had dinner tonight with another couple. Their catfish dinner was inedible. Sent it back and Mgr recommended they order cod. Spoke to the Mgr and she indicated she would "take care of this"...bill came and she had only comped $12...should have been $24! My Cod was overcooked and extremely greasy. Had to use 4 napkins to keep my fingers from being covered in grease! I called attention to the Mgr. and she did say she would alert the kitchen. When I received my bill, there was a "Comp" for $12 but that was not deducted from the bill total. Spoke to the waiter and he argued that it had been deducted...so I had to show him it was not...to make a long story short, the two bills were totally screwed up. My first lunch here. It has a full bar, which I assumed it didn't, cuz the places near it in the shopping center don't. My mistake. It seems the main fair for lunch is a good sized bowl. You select variously ways of cooking shrimp, chicken and a few other meats. then you chose from some butter bases sauces, then the level of heat (spice) you want. its served with veggies over rice or linguini. Mine came and my first complaint thought was "aww crap, they put it on quinoa not linguini. Nope, that quinoa looking stufff was GARLIC above the linguini. I wanted to save half for my wife, but it didn't happen. A handful of micro brews and all the standard beers. Wine is a small list, but the Copolla Pinot in a can was nee to me and pretty decent. For a Cajun style seafood restaurant in the middle of the country surrounded by no water, the food was pretty delicious. 4/5 people in my party were satisfied with their food. I also got a red potato in my shrimp that I didn't eat because it was so spicy. My husband got the catfish and we split our 2 meals. The catfish was delicious but you only got 1 filet, which was large. Our dad got the fried shrimp which of course was delicious and our grandma got the oyster po boy and she enjoyed it!! The one meal that was a disgrace was our mom got the scallops with linguini and vegetables with the garlic sauce and said it lacked any flavor at all. For the sides, the Cajun fries were really good, not too much a fan of their secret sauce or cocktail sauce. The beans were terrible but not too good. Our waitress was lovely, super nice.
