I love a good sushi spot! As I was in route to Sedona from Phoenix I stopped by this shopping center to grab a jacket and saw this place. It's a small space with minimal seating they offered dine in and takeout options. I obviously got take out. I ordered some rolls spicy tuna/salmon plus spicy garlic edamame. They made them fresh and they give large portion sizes! Really high quality sushi tucked away in a shopping center. I highly reccomend! read more

This is the best sushi place in north Phoenix an it's not close. John the server is so attentive and makes great recommendations every time. It has such a good vibe every time we come and packed basically all times of the night. My mother-in-law had never tried Ono so we ordered some sashimi and a few different rolls. Each one was better than the last. This unassuming place in a Happy Valley strip mall consistently provides well-prepared sushi and sashimi, incredibly fast service, a clean environment, and affordable meals. I don't mess with all the rolls--I'm a straight sashimi, nigiri, or ramen person--so I can't comment on those, but they look good at other tables. I am usually there at lunchtime and often early in the week, so I miss out on some fish options. I'm told the shipment comes on Thursdays, so weekend diners have a full pick of the menu! Found a GEM!!! Met up with my friend as she just moved into the neighborhood. When we walked in it's pretty small, only 8-10 tables and 5 seats at the bar. So plan accordingly!!!! We luckily were able to call and make a reservation. The decor is dark, modern, and had anime figures (which was pretty epic!). They had neon dry erase boards that had the specials. And the music was not too loud where we couldn't hear each other. We started our meal off with miso soup! It was so hot when it came to us, which is the best! It was on the verge of being too salty but I have a high salt tolerance. For an appetizer we got the tears of ninja which is a jalapeño popper that has crab meat in the middle and is tempura fried. The tempura was some of the best I have ever had!!! The jalapeños weren't super spicy... if you are lucky! For our entrees we all got the bento box, please see the photos! The meat was cooked perfectly, the rice was good, and the California rolls were okay. But my favorite part of the box was the house salad and the tempura! I am a sucker for the carrot ginger salad dressing and theirs is amazing!!!! Finally their tempura was an assortment of veggies and they were golden brown and crispy! Mexican roll was mad spicy, but good flavor. First off- the young man who assisted me with my to-go order was great. Attentive, even though he was very busy. That's where the praise stops. I am just a little shocked because in South FL, Denver, and even Indianapolis, of all places, you can get a really nice role for $15. Maybe not with anything rare, I just mean made well with nice chunks of fish, etc. I ordered a roll here with salmon and jalapeño and one other thing in it (maybe "crab" or cream cheese) that they swore up and down would arrive to me with raw salmon in it, even though they tempura fry the roll on the outside. The salmon was as to be expected. Warm and cooked. Next- the tempura was DRENCHED in spicy mayo and eel sauce. This is the biggest pet peeve for me with American "sushi" makers. So many deliver no delicacy, no room to taste the fish, just disgusting American goo as if it's an Asian burger or something, slathered with Big Mac sauce. So classless and grating to the palate. The roll immediately fell apart, despite the tempura. I fed it to the dog later. The second thing I ordered was a simple yellowtail sushi roll with ponzu dipping sauce. It would have been good except for two things- they don't put vinegar in their rice and they're RICE STINGY. It's ridiculous to be rice stingy. It's one reason why the rolls fall apart. These were loosely rolled, not packed at all. To me, this place deserves to shut down because there are so many stingy, poor quality sushi places out there. Let them go away. Ambience was small and noisy, nothing out of the ordinary for a Friday night. read more

I came here for lunch and had the 3 hand roll lunch special, which was $12! These hand rolls were packed! I liked that they didn't use spicy Mayo for the spicy component. The place itself is small and quaint. There's a sushi bar that fits one sushi chef, and I think they allowed people to sit at it before. The waitress was nice. Overall, seemed like a solid lunch choice! Interested to trying more item from them. Oh! And also just got an A from the health department. Whooo. Lol read more

Their food is nothing to speak highly of, but I went way out of my way to come here for the third time and each time I have come they have been closed early. They are not supposed to close for lunch till 3 o'clock. I have come anytime between one and two and they're still closed. Do not waste your time coming here. They don't answer their phone if you try to call first. Not to mention the lady was extremely rude when I asked her why they always close early and that this was the third time I drove there. I went with the Sashimi combo (12 pieces of chefs choice) and then did a Rainbow roll & Spicy Yellowtail roll the next time. The sashimi was very good and why I came back a second time. Staff is horrible, to be honest the customer service isn't what I was expecting. I walked in I get it it's lunch time so they are very busy and I'm very understanding. The lady was super rude from the beginning before taking my order she goes give me 19 minutes I have customers waiting and I look at her like I'm also a customer a paying customer! But whatever I let that go after she basically proceeded to tell me what I should order and I hated that. I told her that's not what I want and I'm not going to order what you want just to accommodate you. So I walked out like I wouldn't have minded waiting 50 minutes to get my food as I was in no rush and I wasn't like starving, but the way she delivered it was rude not my cup of tea. read more

Bento box is one of best places I have ever been. The staff is sweet and the sushi is superior. I will usually come here before or after work for a quick bite. They never fail to disappoint. Horrible service and horrible staff as people. I came in today with my friend to try out a new place. Immediately as I came in, I was greeted rudely. As my friend went to use the bathroom, I was repeatedly harassed by the cashier who has orange like hair. I was looking at the menu and waiting for my friend to come back and choose what he wanted it to eat. Then the rude orange haired cashier then demanded I go clean the toilets because I was taking too long to order despite being telling him that I was waiting for my friend. Then the old man there said that they don't serve my kind (I'm African American) and threatened to call the police. They asked me to leave but said they could serve my friend who was white. This place has terrible people working there who are bigoted as well as incredibly ignorant. Very hateful, rude staff. And I'm sure they treated other black people who came in the same way. I wouldn't wish anyone to support a business who's stuck in the 1940s! They should be put out of business if they refuse to serve someone who doesn't look like them. read more

The service here is really lacking which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars. There's literally only one person who makes the sushi and one person who serves, takes orders (including to go), checks people out and fills up drinks. This is why it takes forever because the lady is constantly doing a million things when she should just hire someone else to help. My friend and I waited forever to place a to go order and then top it off with waiting 20-25 min for your rolls. The first I ordered the Mexican ninja and Vegas roll and both were really good. This time I ordered the Mexican ninja and spicy tuna crunch roll. The Mexican ninja was really good but the spicy tuna crunch wasn't very good at all.
