Great food and great beer, but poorly handled by management on 4th of July long weekend. I get "Hayward - busy season"; I get "holiday weekend". But 2 servers and an in and out bartender with a baby, obviously not enough for the Monday after the 4th. Servers should not have to draw beer, mix drinks, seat tables, clear tables, and man the bar. Ridiculous! I understand people call in, things happen, but come on management, owners, whatever...step up. We'll be back, but never during a busy time. read more

An eclectic menu for sure. I'd have a really hard time describing what kind of food they serve here, but it is varied and different and there are not a on of options. But that being said, I enjoyed the pork nachos and my coworker thought the fish tacos were decent. The Beer Cheese soup was delicious and they had 1919 Root Beer on tap, so that was a huge plus. If you're in the mood for something different I'd definitely go here, but if you're more on the traditional side, you might want to consider another option. read more

I don't give out 5 stars willy-nilly. I really can't think of one thing that I could deduct a star for. We tried only 3 beers, all were fantastic to our expectation of what it could/should be. The menu was very creative for us non-meat fans. We ordered three different things, again all were fantastic. Portions were appropriate to the price. Our waiter (at the bar) was not doting, but responsive. Loved, loved checking out the details of the interior: exposed brick, art work, ceiling details, stained glass...Glad I made this visit happen due to the Yelp reviews. Best food in Hayward. We went for a beer sampler with dinner plans elsewhere. Once we saw other people's plates though we stayed. The beer was great. They even had a bourbon barrel stout on tap and that's my favorite. We got three pretzels for an app - one of each. They were fantastic! And for dinner I got the BBQ grilled cheese - it was different and super good. See the pic. My wife got fish tacos- of two different varieties. They're not my style but she really enjoyed them. They have a nice atmosphere- the outside garden patio is lovely but it rained on our most recent visit. Great service. It's not the cheapest place ever but it's totally worth it. It also is not very kid friendly but it IS a brewery. The biggest reason I didn't go 5 stars is the parking. There's not a lot - most park across the way at some other business. There's a little parking out back but it was pretty muddy from the rain. Other than that I love this place. I feel robbed every time I have to eat at anglers with my family when we should be eating here. Cheers! read more

Just stopped because were loved the name, but quickly realized it was an amazing atmosphere and a definite must go place if you are in town.

In Hayward on a business trip, one evening I stopped in at the Angry Minnow for a beer and dinner. I had the whitefish sandwich and an IPA, both very good. Place was super packed, but servers were friendly and service fairly quick considering the crowd. All in all a good experience, I recommend a stop in. read more

I've been here a few times and have been impressed with the food and atmosphere. It's an old building with great character, and the wait staff has always been friendly. The sandwiches and burgers are tasty, and they offer an add on egg which is always a plus. My only complaint, which is significant, is the price of a growler refill: $20!!!! Ok, your beer is pretty good, but it isn't worth $20 for a refill, let's be realistic. Duluth is nearby and offers a few superior beers at a way better value. Get that refill price south of $15 and I move you up to 4 stars. read more

The beer here is good, the food is ok, and the service is somewhat comparable to the soup nazi from Seinfeld. Usually when I go to a brewpub in Minneapolis the food is great, the beer is great, and the service is well deserving of a great tip. Do not sit at the bar and expect to have the bartender acknowledge you if you want to order food, you won't get any. For some reason they think they are serving drinks at a NYC nightclub where only VIPs get acknowledged. UGH, so many great places to get a simple meal and beer in Wisconsin without wasting the entire night trying to place an order. THIS WAS THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD IN YEARS! I have given this establishment ample opportunity to impress me but, they always come up short. The wait staff is indifferent; the food is mediocre; the owner is arrogant and I wouldn't recommend this place to a starving man. In addition, the beer is not quite good. This place is trying to offer a hip experience as compared to the other typical restaurants in Hayward, but they fall flat on their face. Most of the patrons seem as pretentious as the owner. Angry Customer @ Angry Minnow. I have always enjoyed coming here around the Birkie with my husband who does the race every year. His parents live in Hayward, and we would enjoy a beer or two at a very busy time. Today we thought we would bring our 2 children and parents for an early dinner after a canoe trip down the Namekagon. It was a disaster. Our 6 year old wanted one fish taco (off small plate menu) but they were out and they would not allow a beef taco (their daily special) to be ordered a la carte for her instead, and would not serve it without cheese (as no "substitutions" are allowed). Apparently one fish taco ordered alone is OK but not one beef taco...beef tacos must be less independent than fish ones. Sloppy slider was brought out cold and heirloom salad brought out with dry woody unpeeled carrots. 5 year old had a grilled cheese...$9!! no kids menu, fine...but please a grilled cheese on stale hard bread with two sandwich pickles thrown next to it? Really? Bend the "rules" once in awhile for a family who really just wanted to enjoy time together at what we thought was a good, respected restaurant. Unhappy staff, rude staff. The place needs to check itself. Obviously waitress is unhappy with her job or that place. She was rude herself and seemed distraught and uncaring about our needs. made excuses, etc... Bad food, bad service, not deserving of ever thinking about again. Asked for manager numerous times. asked for owner -- asked for anyone who cared. Nobody did. We were polite. Do not go here. I have eaten at the angry Minnow many times in the past. It was my favorite restaurant in Hayward by far. Good food, great atmosphere, nice menu. Unfortunately, the menu keeps getting smaller and smaller as they removed all entrees and narrowed down the menu choices even the sides you get with the meal. Had a very nice steak sandwich with a side of potato chips. Husband had a pizza with what he said tasted like canned mushrooms. The hot water in the bathrooms wasn't working and some other things were in disrepair. Compared to a couple of years ago, the restaurant seems to be struggling. read more

This place is fantastic! We came with a group for new years and literally everything we had was awesome. The fish tacos are the best I've had since living in California. The pretzels were amazing and so was the bbq grilled cheese. Oh and it's a brewery with badass beer. I enjoyed the river pig and the honey wheat. We will definitely be back. read more

It's a cute brewery with a funny name a locally brewed beer. We tried three times to get in but the wait was always 30 minutes plus. Finally got in and looked at the menu, really still wondering what the big deal is. The service was slow. We got there during "angry hour" but only knew about it because we heard another staff talking about it. We ordered beers and nachos. Nachos were good albeit burned and the beer was great. The waitress dropped off our nachos and never came back to see if we needed anything, like plates, extra napkins or refills. It took twenty more minutes to bring the bill and an additional 15 to return it to us. Needless to say, we won't be returning. read more

Love the idea of the Angry Minnow, but execution left me wishing we'd stopped at a chain instead. Stopped on a Saturday night in late October, not too many choices in or around Hayward at that time of year. Was seated in a reasonable amount of time after enjoying a nice beer. Menu is limited, more than I expected for a brewery that serves food. Attempted to order the steak sandwich but ordering without the pepper jack cheese or red peppers "wasn't possible when this busy." Husband's attempt to get grilled onions on his burger was met with same response. Appeared as if you were younger or hipper you might have different options or get better service. Very warm in the building, to the point of being uncomfortable. Food was pretty good. Folks I was with said food is usually good, but service definitely varies. read more

So read other reviews to know that I am not the only one saying this. First off building and beer are fantastic. Service is one of the most non-accommodating places I have ever been to. Kids wanted nachos with out peppers. When asked told no we do not do any changes because of the lunch rush (4 tables had people at the time). Food was quick and good. Kids got drinks in pint glasses and asked for straws, we don't have straws. If you will eat what's on the menu then you will be fine. We didn't care for the bartender. She wasn't very friendly and was really rude to her servers, I understand it was busy but still. Kind of a pricey place. The only redeeming thing about this place is their beer. The staff is generally unfriendly and the food has been in decline over the years. Stick to the beer and apparently the Burgers, which other reviews love. We came last year and enjoyed the Beer, Steak Sandwich and Fish Tacos. This year; No Steak Sandwich and the Fish Tacos contained so many Jalapino's as to render them inedible. A Reuben Sandwich was the special and arrived without Thousand Island Dressing and the salty corned beef was overpowering. Fantastic French Fries and Pretzels, but stick to the basics and Beer. For years I have tried to patronize this brewery. I find the beers OK, the food creative, but as of today I am done. I stopped by to have a beer and fill a growler. Their own growler at that. I asked how much a growler fill fill was and was told by the waiter he did not know. I should have asked him to confirm. Then I get the bill. Happy hour was $3.50 for the draft and $14 for the growler refill. I asked how much a 4 pack (pints to carry out was, and was told $9.99. I asked why such a big spread on a growler refill. He tells me there is more beer in a growler. I told him the math was exactly the same. He just stared at me. Then I said there was no savings in the growler, that it was exactly the same as buying four drafts. He seemed confused. Well? When I can't get fill growler for less getting drafts at the bar, that pushes my buttons. Especially for marginal beer. When to go 4 packs are 40% less than a growler refill, I think it is time to go to another Brewery. For me it is a 20 mile drive to Hayward, next time it is to the brewery in Spooner. read more

Support a local institution by trying all their beer and eating some good food. Veggie tacos were outstanding, as was the 1/2 burger. It was busy, but the service was great. We were well-attended and all of our questions were answered. Don't believe the bad reviews; this is a must-visit. read more
