Came here for a pho fix and this spot did not disappoint! The pho was super tasty, and I really appreciated that they had Thai chili peppers available--I like to mix those with fish sauce and lime to make a dipping sauce for the meats in my pho and for the raw meat served on the side. It hit just right. My girlfriend got the pork chop, and she loved it. Their homemade nuoc mam went perfectly with it--great balance of sweet, salty, and tangy. We also tried the summer rolls, and they were fresh and flavorful. That peanut dipping sauce? Honestly one of the best I've had--so creamy and addicting. Bonus points for being open really early (love that!) and the restaurant itself is nice and cool inside, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a go-to spot for solid Vietnamese food!

Way over due with this review...been taking my family to this spot for years. Small family owned with authentic Vietnamese dishes. Everything on the menu is GoOD. Service is always friendly and they go beyond to provide your needs especially with my babies lol. Thank you soooo much Michael

Legggiiittt place. Authentic Vietnamese I suppose coz people spoke Vietnamese and the tv had Vietnamese fruit channel on lol, like they're speaking in Vietnamese explaining everything about dragonfruits for one whole hour. I don't think I can even watch that if I understood Vietnamese lol. Anyway the food. The food! We tried their Bun Bo Hue and bun rieu and both were delicious! Savory and with depth. Between the two I liked the Bun Bo Hue a little better but you can't go wrong with either. I was surprised even in their bun rieu they put porks blood and pork knuckle as well, alongside with the Vietnamese ham, soft tofu and of course a lot of fresh herbs which I greatly appreciated. Their egg rolls were delicious too! Good flavor with plenty of herbs and rice noodles. The dipping sauce could use more garlic. The server spoke perfect English so it wouldn't be a problem ordering here without speaking Vietnamese. The food also came out in a timely manner. As for environment, it's an Asian restaurant in Chinatown, so don't expect anything modern modern or sparkling clean, hey but sometimes that's where you gotta go to find good food. I only saw one high chair for the entire restaurant but at least they had one lol. Next time we would try other stuff!

When a restaurant is filled with people of the same ethnic background as itself, it's a clear indicator the place is legit! That was the case at Anh Hong--my fourth stop (my third was Pho To Chau, but nothing new. Still good!) in my Pho Quest. The whole place was nearly full when I arrived, and eventually filled up with immediate turnover while I was there, and this was a Monday. All Vietnamese. I'm part French via Vietnam. Does that count? I couldn't say the same for other places. In fact, the other places I've been to were basically empty. Ahn Hong is located along North King Street, near River Street. It's in between Golden River Vietnamese Restaurant and Kieu Vietnamese Restaurant. Just a bit down from Kekaulike Street. I just park at the Chinatown Municipal Parking that you enter from Ala Moana Boulevard. It's all metered parking. Inside was clean and bright. Yes, Combination Pho again! My first sip of the broth, it was clean while rich in flavor with the taste of herbs and spices. The broth was close to one at Pho To Chau. "Is this better??? Better than To Chau??" was what entered my mind after having the broth, and I believe it might be. Every ingredient in the pho was exceedingly fresh. From the bean sprouts, culantro, basil, rare steak, tendon, cilantro, and etc. This is the only place where I could taste the cilantro (I abhor it), and found it acceptable. All the beef was tender and tasty, and prepared very well. Even the beef meatballs tasted better here. Everything was precisely portioned. The noodles were slightly more skinnier, but had a nice firmness and texture. The broth temperature was just right. Slightly extra warm to better cook the raw vegetables. The large size was the perfect amount for me. The saté sauce was very good--a nice balance between spicy and savory. Overall, Ahn Hong might be my favorite now. Not just because there were a lot of Vietnamese eating there, but also the food was just spot on. Everything was very fresh and very well prepared. The service was excellent--very friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back for more pho and other things!

Lunch in Honolulu's Chinatown... When metered street parking is free on Sundays, that's one of the best days (besides holidays) to dine in Chinatown! Why else would you want to go where some unsavory characters hang out on the sidewalks and in doorway nooks? Another benefit of dining in Chinatown is the lower prices at certain establishments. The rent is probably lower and the volume of customers might be higher. Dear Daniel had some free time between appointments and said that he was craving some Vietnamese soup. Ok - I haven't been to Anh Hong before - let's go! Located on King Street, near the River Street intersection, Anh Hong is one of the many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Inside, the environment looks clean, new, and spacious. There's supposed to be a convenient restroom, but I didn't check it out... Another perk of this restaurant is the complimentary "tea water". It may not sound like much, but on a warm July afternoon, it is refreshing! It's like a watered down barley-ish tea with ice. It's unsweetened and not bitter... Just right! Service was quite good! Dear Daniel had to ask for the little chopped chili peppers that usually come on the side. Other than that, I have no complaints. I ordered the #14 which is BBQ pork and Spring Rolls on vermicelli. It's my "go to" dish because it has some of everything: fresh veggies, fried Spring Rolls, grilled pork, and boiled noodles. That's carbs, fiber, and protein - all in one bowl! The sweet chili sauce with pickled shredded carrots and daikon gave the dish added flavor! Yum! I wouldn't mind returning... As long as it's on a Sunday or holiday... LOL!

How rare it is to have a viet restaurant that serves different noodle soups and every single one is a good. So good that we were there 3 times during our trip and have been telling everyone it's a must stop in Honolulu. Highly recommend the hu tieu mi (nice clean squiddy broth with perfectly cooked egg noodles, I recommend subbing the egg noodles since the original noodles are thicker and a different texture) You can't go wrong with ordering a bun rieu (pork/crab soup), pho, banh canh, and spring rolls! Wishing for a place like this near home..

Best bun bo hue I've had on the island ! Restaurant dining area is small, maybe 8 tables? Bf ordered combo pho which was also really tasty. I got the BBH, which we both really enjoyed. The soup was hot and really tasty. All the toppings were really good.

Loved the Bun Bo Hue that I have been craving for weeks. This place has the authentic Bun Bo Hue with pig feet and blood pudding. The banana flower condiment was also sooo good. Not many places in the town serve with the banana flower so I am so thankful that they do. The service was nice as well. We were a little skeptical about the tea flavored water because I didn't know if it was because it wasn't washed properly. It was this faint flavor or soy or barley tea so I wasn't too sure. Overall I had a great experience and will be back when we can get to Chinatown.

Anh Hong is easily the best Vietnamese restaurant in Chinatown. I'm from the Bay Area so my tastebuds for authentic Vietnamese food is admittedly pretty snobby. My brother and I arrived around 11am on Sunday morning and was greeted by the sweet lady owner. There were other guests situated already so she sat us at a table closest to the door -- being mindful of social distancing us from other diners. I ordered their Bun Rieu (Crab and Tomato soup) and my brother ordered their Bun Bo Hue (Vietnamese Spicy Beef Soup). The soup for both dishes were piping hot when brought out from the kitchen and the appropriate noodles were used for each item (yes, using the "right" noodles are especially important in Vietnamese cooking). The flavors were stellar and as close to "home" as it's going to get while in Oahu. Be sure to ask for all the appropriate condiments so you can bring out all the authentic flavors for each specialty noodle soup. There were so many other items that looked really appealing also so I'm looking forward to trying something different next time. #SupportLocalSmallBusinesses

Two and a half stars. Was forced to try another pho place because my favorite one in aiea is somehow closed. Decided to try this one because I had already tried the other pho places around there and didn't care for any around Chinatown area. Eh, walked in and found that a big party had just left. I was seated right away and pleasantly surprised that they served coconut water instead of regular water. Ordered spring rolls, summer rolls and a beef flank and brisket. The appetizers came pretty quickly then the pho came out. To begin with the appetizers were quite different. The summer rolls come with a piece of char siu inside with the shrimp. The rolls were rather tightly wrapped and smaller. The spring rolls were ok. The meat inside had a different taste to it but I enjoyed the fixings that came with it. Lots of basil and cucumber which I always appreciate. The pho on the other hand was a different flavor than I expected and ever tasted. First of all I noticed that they might have cooked some beef in the broth for it's cloudy. I do not like the taste of cooked blood in my broth. I like my broth clear as possible. Secondly I took a bite of a nice piece of beef but it honestly had a strange after taste that I didn't care for at all. I just ate the noodles with the vegetables I put in it but left all the beef and the broth. I always get disappointed when it comes to a different pho taste that I'm used to. It has a sweeter taste to it which I don't care for. However I might be not used to a different style of pho. I am figuring out that probably which place the cook comes from is the way they cook the pho. The taste is different from different parts of Vietnam I am sure. I didn't care for this one but a lot of Vietnamese customers came in speaking the language and seem to be regulars so they're used to that pho. The people are hard working and courteous and the place is rather clean. I just have my own preference but honestly I'm sure others might want to try for a different taste.

Upon stepping foot in Phở Quê Hương, I was transported back to Vietnam (or Orange County, California-- have your pick). Phở Quê Hương is located in Honolulu's Chinatown, so we get an interesting demographic mix of diners. (I believe I observed at least one Hoa family order in Vietnamese and then converse in a Chinese language.) I wasn't so attentive to the precise linguistic profiles of my fellow diners because of how distracted I was by the food. However, it is a salient pattern I am observing in Honolulu: seeing many non-Viet people coming to eat Viet food. I know Vietnamese cuisine has become more globally mainstream, but I suppose I am so used to existing in Vietnamese ethnic enclaves. The menu offers a great selection of Vietnamese food, including dishes I had never had before. The bún chả Đà Nẵng is not at all similar to a bún chả Hà Nội, so don't get them mixed up! Bún chả Đà Nẵng was more like a bún riêu without the riêu: a nice tomato soup with a serious umami flavor going on. (I was getting notes of cheese even, in a really good way.) My first time having a non-vegetarian bò lá lốt was here. It was tasty, although I was getting a spicy note that I wasn't sure where it was coming from. The tràng đặc biệt was delicious and familiar. I always love wrapping things (amateurishly) with rice paper. The name "Phở Quê Hương" is apt, but it isn't just phở but rather all the dishes that feel like they arrived straight from Vietnam. If you are interested in more traditional Vietnamese fare, give this place a try.

I heard they will keep this space for special events. The restaurant is quite busy and I'm glad we had reservations. Good thing I was there prior to lunch hour opening, otherwise we may lose our reservations since the person who made reservations tends to be habitual in arriving late. We dined in May, but it's been awhile since I first dined here. I preferred dining in Chinatown during lunch time than at dinner. Our waiter was really nice and helpful. I forgot his name, but I remembered that his eyeglasses that he wore was cool/funny, since the frames for each eye didn't match the other eye! lol. Funny it wasn't me who first noticed it. One was square frame and the other was a round frame! The restaurant doesn't do anything special for birthdays except may write Happy Birthday in chocolate on the dessert plate that you purchase for the birthday person. Their desserts are unique and refreshing. I think there are some rotating desserts /flavors like their seasonal menu for their main menu. I guess you can always keep coming back without being bored of the menu! I was bummed to see a previous dish posted of a pasta that I wanted to try that wasn't on the current spring seasonal menu! When we dined for brunch over the weekend, I was able to get the Hainan chicken with the crispy roast pork combo. It was very filling , tasty and satisfying. I do love ginger sauce on the cold ginger chicken but sometimes the chicken is just okay. This Hainan chicken was really good and the chicken was really moist! I thought it was the best I've tried! It was good that I wanted to takeout one last time in August before they moved! No more the 50/50 combo with the crispy roast pork on the lunch menu during the weekday. It was on the spring menu. Of course it's best to eat it in the restaurant than for take out. Bathroom is a must for me when dining out and they had only one shared bathroom for everyone! There was a guy who tried to make several attempts but wasn't successful, since there was always someone in the restroom. I'm glad the waiter told me there was a bigger separate bathroom with several stalls for men and ladies upstairs. You go straight through the kitchen to catch the elevator and to another kitchen /storage area! Thank Goodness! Best wishes at your new location. You offer yummy and tasty food!

I believe they have some deserts, but we have never tried any, because their portion sizes are generous and we're usually too full to think about deserts. There were wine and beer specials too but we were here for the cocktails. From the happy hour menu, we ordered the vegan spring rolls, chicken wings, and the Bo Ne Steak--a Vietnamese breakfast with bone marrow, cubed steak, sunny side eggs and a baguette. I can vouch for the spring rolls, light and crunchy without being oily. I don't eat land animals but my friend said the wings were divine. And they give you gloves to eat them. So civilized (ha) and a nice touch! She loved the bone marrow and steak. There was so much food she didn't finish it so I took it home to the hubby who devoured it. No complaints and only smiles from him! I wanted to try a couple pescatarian dishes from the regular menu so ordered the lemongrass clams which was AH-mazing! Could have been my favorite dish of the night because the flavors were unexpected but undeniably good. And, the garlic salmon bun (vermicelli noodles) was fantastic. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was savory yet light. I've never seen this option at any other Vietnamese restaurant and it certainly elevates the traditional dish which usually comes with meat, tofu, or spring rolls. (You can still order the bun with these options and they let you choose your protein combos.) Finally, (I told you there was a lot of food) we ordered the banana blossom salad. I rarely see this offering at other Vietnamese restaurants. It's hard to describe but I refer to this dish as the red-carpet version of the green papaya salad. It's more dressed up and sophisticated. And the service was courteous and professional. Our server Alex was great and made the evening extra special. An Di Dzo is open for lunch and dinner. They also offer some vegan options so I'll be back. Hubby enjoyed the leftovers so much he wants to give it a dine-in try. You don't have to ask me twice! Highly recommend you give them a try, too.

The restaurant is small and can only have a few parties in at a time. It's no frills but feels like you're just visiting your Aunt or Grandma's house. Prices are fair, not overpriced. Fun fact, they're TOP 100 vegan restaurants in the US. You're in for a treat. Please note: they only take cash tips! Consider this if you go :)

It's tucked away in the entrance of Chinatown Market, making it a true hidden gem. My favorite is the "beef" noodle soup. The broth is incredibly rich and flavorful--you'd never guess it's completely vegan. I also highly recommend the taro spring rolls, which are crispy, delicious, and the perfect appetizer. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so it may not be able to accommodate larger groups. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. As someone who loves noodle soup, I appreciate being able to enjoy such a satisfying meal while knowing it's entirely plant-based. I'll definitely be back!

You already know the beef was good or it wouldn't get a good review from me. Got the spring rolls which was nice and hot. Wrapped the spring roll, noodles and the carrot & daikon with the lettuce and dipped it into the sauce. Winnahs. For the main entrees got the crispy fried noodles with seafood. It's like the Vietnamese version of Chinese seafood with cake noodles. Very crunchy and tasty. Lots of seafood. The other entree was the combo sizling plate. Yes, the plate was sizling. The plate had pate, sausage, meatball, beef and a fried egg. I've never tasted anything like that before. It's not the usual taste that you're accustomed to but i enjoyed it. I thought it was good. Both entrees and the salad are good serving size. I like the spring rolls and wish had more but that's just me. The service is excellent even though it was pretty busy. The waiter apologized for being late but it was quite understandable. He's so polite. The lady who might be the owner was very pleasant and personable. It was a very good experience. The only thing that might be a slight problem like any other restaurant on Kapahulu is parking.

I'm usually more of a spring roll person, but these were so good and something I'd definitely order again. I had the brisket pho, and my boyfriend got the beef and flank pho. Both were delicious, and the broth was flavorful and comforting. I'm pretty particular about Thai tea, but theirs is always really good. The restaurant is small and fills up quickly. The service is always good and the food comes out fast. If you're in the Aiea area and looking for a solid pho spot, Pho Time is worth a visit!

When I placed my order, I told the woman, "no cilantro" on anything. When I received my order, the soup was missing. When the woman brought the soup, I said again, "no cilantro." She said, yes. I paid and left. When I got home, I opened the salad and noticed a pile of basil and what appeared to be cilantro. It tasted like cilantro, too. So, I went back to the restaurant to return my order, as I no longer wanted any of it. When I got there, the woman told me that isn't cilantro, it's "culantro." She said she would refund my salad, but not the sandwich and proceeded to argue with me that she was doing me a favor because the salad did not have cilantro, even though she very well knows they taste the same. In any case, I left my entire order and was only refunded for the salad. I will dispute with my cc company. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE
