Aya's take:
This new location of Samurai Sushi in Hoboken is takeout only unlike their other two locations. I placed an order for pickup and made my way over; it was ready within 15 minutes! Quality-wise, is it my favorite? No. Flavor-wise? Also no. The sushi didn't seem expertly made and seeing that it's solely a takeout spot, I can see the quality not being up to par especially when you're not serving a customer in front of you. If you have a sushi craving, this will definitely satisfy it, but if you're looking for great rolls, I don't think Samurai Sushi is it. I got the 3 Classic Roll Combo which is a litmus test of good sushi, in my opinion. They give plenty of fish and the rice-to-fish ratio was great! The spicy scallop was particularly fresh and all the ingredients were clean. The salmon was slightly questionable in here and in the specialty roll. There was a lot of fatty tissue and it was a bit slimy in texture compared to what I'm used to. It was much more noticeable in the Salmon Lovers Roll as it was loaded with salmon. The salmon on top was barely torched with some pieces more torched than others. I didn't really get that sweetness from the mango or mango chili sauce either. The Samurai Roll was my preferred of the two specialty rolls. The tuna and spicy tuna were fresh, the avocado was creamy, but I could not figure out why they used chipotle mayo and not spicy mayo. The chipotle flavor really threw me off and isn't the standard anywhere else. The 2 specialty rolls were only worth it with the BOGO deal on UberEats making it ~$1/piece. Otherwise, I would've felt ripped off with the portion and quality of the rolls. If you're looking for sushi that's quick and decent, Samurai Sushi will do the job; otherwise, go to a proper sushi spot! read more
