I ordered the combo place so I could try both the chicken and beef kebabs. Beef was tender & juice, and the chicken was succulent. The hummus was totally legit and the sample tabuleh I had was SPOT ON. My only complaint is that the meat wasn't marinated, not marinated long enough, or the marinade itself was lacking. When I eat Lebanese/Middle Eastern kebab I expect it to be bursting with flavor. I want to at least taste the lemon and salt. Anni's kebabs were succulent but lacking in taste. I HOPE this establishment starts marinating its meats and salts it up just a tad. Only then could I give it 5 stars. The best thing about this place is the deli section with its authentic assorted picked veggies and vegetables dips like beets, tabuleh, red cabbage, artichoke salad, Babbage ganoush (eggplant dip), and many others. This was possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had. After waiting 45 minutes for our food, and seeing multiple other parties that had arrived after us get served before us, the owner/manager put our food outside without telling us, and when we finally tried to cancel the order to leave, he yelled at one of my companions and told her not to complain because he was old enough to be her father. He also had some choice four letter words for her. All-in-all a terrible experience for mediocre food. Avoid this restaurant like the plague. Stopped by yesterday driving down from the Valley towards Whittier with my wife and daughter. Salvadorean looking guy at front was very upset he had to get up and take our order.." what? You Want it now? - yes we can wait..so the guy goes in and calls a lady...she comes up to the front and takes a phone call order, once she's done she is about to hang up and tells the customer "that was not one order, that was five orders !" And she was very upset. So she finally asks us what would we like and she says let me see if I can take you, we have many catering orders. You have to wait. Was going back in and we call her back and thank her and say we are leaving. This was a very bad experience, never treated that way in America before. These people were worse than the " Soup Nazi" from Seinfeld. Located near Down Town Montebello is this gem called Ani's BBQ Chicken. It's a freakin HUGE place with tons of parking spot. The whole place is pretty chill cozy interior nice people working here and very attentive. This would totally fit for a perfect date spot. I'm serious this place is awesome!!! Nah I'm just fuck*ng with you. It's a small spot in Montebello that could probably seat 20 people inside and 10 outside. Small straight up no bullshit place that serves great chicken! I was planning to head to Zankou but I went here instead just to try it and I wasn't disappointed at all. I ordered the special #2 which is half chicken with rice salad and pita bread, I also ordered a piece of lula kabob just to try it. The only thing that sucks is that I didn't pay attention to the big ass sign in front that says $6.99 for a whole rotisserie chicken! When I come to Ani's I like to get the chicken kabobs and some tabouleh. Their tabouleh kicks ass. Sometimes I go in for just tabouleh, hummus and pita bread. Those three things make me a happy girl. Ani's is pretty small inside so I like to take my order to go. They tend to be a little slow but it's because they make your food by order. But instead I'll give you 5 reasons why you should eat there: 5. The only other Mediterranean-style rotisserie chicken/kabob place in LA i've tried is Zankou and Ani's is cheaper, tastier, and they give you all the pita bread you want when you eat there. 4. Ani's chicken is great! My husband and I usually get the family meal #1 and it lasts us 2 days at least (and some midnight snaking). It comes with a full chicken, side of rice, hummus, pickled turnips (My fav snack ever!), pita bread, a full greek salad, dressing and garlic butter (garlic sauce) for around $16.99. The chicken falls off the bone and tastes amazing! The only weird thing is that they don't have Falafels, if you want a Falafel you'll have to go to Zankou (way expensive!) or Krazy Kabobs. I say weird because I remember my first Falafel experience like 10 years ago was at Ani's chicken, but maybe they decided to stop carrying them? The friend who introduced me to Falafels remembers us eating them at Ani's also. I don't think this review can be made without mentioning other local greek/armenian food joints. I use to be a devoted Krazy Kabobs fan but sometimes the service can be slow (good food takes awhile I know), and it's family run which is usually a good thing except when the family is fighting, yeah we stopped going there because of some uncomfortableness. The jalapeno hummus there amazing though and so is their salad dressing (kind of a lemon, oil and dill mix). Also there's Zankou Chicken down the street but it has gone up a lot in price since they first opened, so much so that I stopped getting my addictive pickled turnips from there and quit cold turkey. I think an average meal there now costs about $9.49 but I'd rather pay about 70% more at Ani's and have a ton left over. read more

Despite having several mediterranean restaurants nearby, Ani's is my favorite. (Disclaimer: I've never actually tried the others, but I'm convinced that Ani's signature garlic spread is better than any other). For a little under $10, you can order a half chicken rotisserie plate served with hummos w/pita bread, greek salad, and rice pilaf. Considering the size and taste, this is a deal! The rotisserie chicken is not your average baked chicken...the skin is crispy and slightly salty which makes it even more delicious. If you claim to be a no skin chicken kind of person, try resisting this. The portions are generous all around, and the hummos although plain is super fresh and pairs well with the chicken and pita. Some people can share this plate, for myself I like to eat (and finish) my own....if you're an average eater, I'd recommend getting your own plate and saving the left overs for another meal. I almost forgot...the garlic sauce. It's white with a whipped texture. I don't know how they make it, but it's soo good. Use a little spoonful with every chicken bite and you will be pleased...you.will.be.pleased. I've asked for extra garlic sauce in the past and have gotten it for free which makes me a happy (and smelly breath) customer - be sure to get this! Ani's also serves wraps, salads, baklava and other mediterranean items. The only down side to Ani's is their hours are not always consistent. This place is not good.... First off in my opinion it is expensive. I wanted to substitute my salad for tabulay (don't know if that's how u spell it) but it was 1.50 extra ok fine no complaining, then the cashier made me feel like he wanted to leave because we would ask him a question and he would just say ya uhhuh.... Rude. So anyways got my food, it looked good till I actually tried it, my tabulay tasted Like it's been sitting out for days. And to top it off as I'm chewing I found like a little rock... Yes a little rock I know. My beef kabob wasn't that bad but it could have had a lot more flavor. To top it off we ordered a chili and a tomato of course it was extra, so we got our food first and right when we were about done they decide to bring out the chili we had ordered. This place used to be pretty good. Lately it seems like their food product is NOT up to par. Their side items do not seem fresh. They look and taste as if they've been sitting there for days. The pickled turnips were a dark purplish color (they should be closer to pink in color). They told me they used a different kind of vinegar. They tasted a bit acidic to me. The Lula chicken kabobs were dry, not cooked properly, and lacked flavor. The rotisserie chicken was way over cooked. I almost choked it was so dry. The wings were so crispy they weren't even edible. If you want to know how good Mediterranean food should look and taste. I highly recommend HYE CUISINE in Montebello on Whittier Blvd. They take pride in the quality of food they serve. They're also much cheaper in price. Did I mention they deliver free of charge? ZANKOU CHICKEN is a better option as well. I will never go back to Ani's chicken. Now I know better. The owner was really nice and was telling me how proud he was of his business. You'll see a lot of locals in this place during the lunch hour, so it's gotta be a hit. Absolutely, freaking, ridiculous ! Not happy right now. First of all I ordered 2 chicken kabob plates and a order of fries on the phone. When I get there 20 minutes later it's not ready. No big deal. Then when he rings me up he got the order wrong. They only made 1 kabob plate........... grrrrr. Now I have to wait while the rest of my food gets cold. To make things worse they charged me a 1.95 per order for their crappy, rude, and rushed service. All the workers were in such a rush and messing up a lot of orders. Then there was the food which was not edible...... The chicken was tough, rubbery, and flavorless. Just tasted like cheap burnt something. They have gone way way down from what they used to be. Do not waste your money here. There are plenty of way better Armenian / Mediterranean options in the area. I will never be back here to spend my hard earned buck. I decided to try Ani's Chicken because while I love Zankou chicken which is just a few blocks away I was tired of paying their higher prices. I placed my order for two chicken kebab plates and I was on my way home to enjoy some chicken. Sadly I was disappointed by most of this plate of food. Their chicken was seasoned and cooked well enough but it didn't quite hit the mark for me. Their rice is just very mushy and is seriously lacking in flavor. I LOVE hummus but sadly something about the hummus here is lacking, I can't quite put my finger on it but its isn't not as good as Zankous, it has a thinner consistency and lacks in flavor. I did enjoy their garlic spread I thought it was delicious. The restaurant itself is very clean and the staff is very polite and accommodating. I wouldn't return to Ani's for food again but its not a bad first try. I'm still a fan of Zankous more even if I may have to shell out a little bit more money. read more

Before Zankou Chicken opened up it's doors in Montebello, there was Ani's Chicken. Sure they both serve similar food but Ani's Chicken is mom & pop while the other is corporate. Between the two, I prefer Ani's chicken because it is a bit more juicy but a bit more oily. It has more flavor and the price is just right: $6.99 for a whole chicken is their special. I've had their family meal which comes with salad and a couple of sides. The only thing I wanted to try and that is always unavailable has been the baba ghanoush. Came with a generous portion of rice (very generic and uninspired), a small bit of salad, and a garlic-y sort of spread(?). My friend and I also got some pita bread and hummus (which was rly good). All the prices seem pretty reasonable. My plate was $5.99 +tax. If you're going south on Montebello blvd, it's just past the dairy or, if you're going north, just past El Pollo Loco. It shares a small lot with Heavenly Choices, across the street from the mall the Von's is in. If you're in need of more parking (there's like 10 spots in the lot), you could probably park in the surrounding residential area-- not even a 5min walk. Overall, not bad. Chicken, Lula (ground beef) Kabob and Beef Kabob was the final decision. Chicken- Cooked to perfection! Skin was crispy and inside was moist. Lula Kabob- Packed with sooo much flavor. Beef Kabob- Melts in your mouth, so tender. If you like garlic order their garlic sauce to go with your meal if it doesn't come with it, its cool, refreshing and is packed with garlic flavor. I love family-owned places with authentic native foods. This place is one of them. It's consistent throughout the years, it's original, and it's fresh. I get their plate combos, tabouleh, tzatziki, and garlic sauce for $1 more. They used to give pita bread whenever you ask for them if you're dining in, but now they charge... which is understandable considering the economy. Split the chicken dinner with my gf. Came back last week because of my craving and got the gyro lunch combo. Safe to say that the consistency is there in terms of quality. Just didn't rate the place that high because of the impression I got from who it seems like the owner during both visits. No smile, no greeting when I looked at him, almost felt unwelcomed. I've had the chicken, the lule both chicken and beef are good, the plates come with rice and hummus and a little tub of garlic sauce. The sandwiches are good too, the boyfriend gets the gyro which comes with steak fries. The grape leaves are good also. They now charge 50c for extra garlic sauce and the sandwiches don't come with it so you have to pay extra. They have recent changed their hours which are supposed to be temporary. Wish the food and staff were more consistent. This is the 2nd time the dressing wasn't put on the side for a to go gyro salad. I couldn't enjoy it when I got home since it got all soggy.
