We were staying on the Isle of Palms, and there are basically little or no options for donuts in that area. This was the closest so we gave it a try. When you walk in, there's no explanation of cost, but you take a slip of paper that has most of the donuts on it and mark what you want. As I was heading to the counter I saw a chalkboard with additional options that I then tried to put on my list which was confusing. I wanted to order a coffee but they don't have any sign board that explains what your options are so I ended up not getting one. It's the kind of place where the cake donuts are made continuously and then they dip and frost and top them as you order them. The problem with that, is that when you are frosting hot donuts the glaze runs right off and ends up mostly in the box. So by the time I got home half the donuts had glaze on them that had run off of the ones next to them in the box. The donuts weren't bad, I would definitely recommend the tiramisu one (which is one of the daily specials) but I don't know that I would go back anytime soon due to the price. read more

You get a very thin amount of glaze on your actual donut and the rest of everything else is in a puddle on the bottom of the box. It just makes it look sad. The cake donut itself was fine. Service was significantly faster than Duck Donuts. But that doesn't matter much since all the glaze has melted and slid off. What is still on manages to stick to one's fingers like some super sticky substance immune to napkins. Ambience was cute. read more

Amber was working and was extremely nice and helpful, letting me know they do deliveries for weddings and just to call with my order once I knew what time they should be dropped off. She left a note behind the counter in case a coworker of her's was working when I called so they wouldn't be confused. Someone other than Amber did answer and right off the bat he was extremely curt and rude. I placed my order for 10 dozen donuts and he asked what time we would pick up. I told him I was told delivery was an option with them and he said well it's not and then he hung up on me. Parking spaces are scarce, so be prepared to stake one out in the cramped lot. Once inside, fill out a card and order at the counter. Prices seem grossly inflated for the vacationing crowd: $3.85 for a single doughnut. You can buy in boxes if 2, 4, 6, and 12 with a minor bulk discount. The selection is wide and filled with novelties, including doughnuts named for local celebrities (i.e. Colbert and Murray) and to appeal to the resilient digestive systems of kids (I.e. "Bacon Blitz" and "Chocolate Overload"). The doughnuts themselves are unspectacular. While served hot, they're basically cake doughnuts on the smallish side that are dense and soggy. Also excessively sweet. At nearly $25 for a half dozen, there are other options (both national chains and local establishments) that are more satisfying. For that reason, I cannot recommend. I stopped by last week for a dozen of these; once I got over the shock that these donuts for a dozen COST MORE THAN A DOZEN DOUGHNUTS AT THE GREATEST SHOP IN AMERICA (I'll let you read my other reviews to find out which one that is), I was happy to find that the fry on these donuts is great and the somewhat over-the-top flavors also work too. My family enjoyed these and about 15 of these fed a group that included ten adults and seven kids, four kids of which partook in the donut eating. BUT I was pleasantly surprised because each flavor came through strongly!! The blueberry is by far the best!! Such good flavor. The base donut itself is amazing - it's a cake donut but it's not dense. It is light, moist, and soft. They came out fresh so they were super warm and delicious. Favorites: Blueberry Hill, Coffee Cake (mocha glaze, graham crackers, & powdered sugar), and Rocky Shores (honey glaze, cinnamon sugar, & mini chocolate chips). We didn't get any specialty donuts so the price of a dozen was $21.99 and tax was 11%. A little pricey, but worth it. Discovered this gem in Mt. P because BF used to live in Maryland where there used to be a Fractured Prune years ago. He recognized the sign and stopped by. He came back for this particular visit with us and also his family visiting from Maryland who were equally excited to see this familiar establishment! The decor was entertaining and the kids enjoyed stepping on the water tiles near the tables. We sat at two tables (there were 10 of us) and ate our gourmet donuts while chatting. There was plenty of room for us and another table for more to sit. You could see the upstairs that was closed off for booking small parties. They do have a bathroom for patrons. I didn't use it, but several from our party did and they all said it was clean. You can pick up souvenirs. One of the employees gave my kids some stickers and my daughter got a shirt. I stopped at Fractured Prune for the first time today. I'm not normally a huge cake donut fan but these were delicious! The base donut was the perfect density and texture and it doesn't get better than having donuts fried to order. The staff was super nice and showed us how the donuts were made. They even added an extra in my box for free! The only thing I have an issue with is that I ordered 5 different donuts and most of them looked identical. My roommates and I did a taste test of each of them and we couldn't decide which one was which--they all tasted so similar! So I'm not sure if there was a mix up with the order or if the flavors are just normally pretty similar (like we couldn't pick out blackberry or pumpkin from the mix and I feel like those should be pretty distinct flavors). "Hot hand dipped doughnuts" is the sign that caught our attention driving away from the beach in Charleston. Curious, my friends and I looked it up online. 19 types of glazes, 15 types of toppings and tons of specialty doughnuts. Done. I'm so glad we decided to turn around. These doughnuts were absolutely HEAVENLY. They're hot-off-the-press cake doughnuts that are then dipped into the glaze of your choice. Think Krispy Kreme meets Dunkin, meets absolute bliss. Everyone has a "favorite" kind of doughnut, but what Fractured Prune does with this specialty/specialized doughnut shoppe is absolutely brilliant. Although a little more pricey than the aforementioned chains, think about how a lot of people don't mind paying for Starbucks because of the quality and personalization that they walk away with. That's what you'll get with Fractured Prune. I need one of these in Atlanta ASAP. read more
