Even getting here at 7:00 p.m. on a Wednesday, it was slammed. Waited about 20 minutes to get seated for two. Just such a busy and lively place. Great ambience and very friendly! Food is always good. Tonight we had the Maryland crab cakes as well as the steak and seafood plate. Steak was very delicious and seafood was cooked to perfection with a side of potatoes and coleslaw. Very tasty! I was visiting DC with my son. I wanted to go have a nice day dinner with him at least one night during our vacation. I gave him three options and after we reviewed the menus, he landed on Annie's, and I am so glad he did. This restaurant was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. The staff was kind and welcoming. They were attentive, but not overbearing. The portions were quite sizable. My son's 11 years old, and we split a steak and the two sides that came with it. & let me tell you that steak was cooked perfectly! We also got the mac & cheese "bit" OMGOMGOMG! If you like mac & cheese at all, and even if you don't, you should try it here bc WOWZA! To be fair, if there's one thing I've learned about going to queer / queer friendly establishments- if there's a predominant cheese item on the menu, get it bc gays do not play with cheese. We rounded our meal out with a slice of key lime pie, cheesecake, and icecream and those didn't miss either. Grand total came out to around.. $120 I think which is a HELL of a deal for the meal. Second visit to Annie's; it will become a regular dining spot when visiting Washington, DC. Tonight I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. The chicken had been prepared to perfection. The breading was not too heavy as I have had at other restaurants. The marinara sauce and cheeses were just right and the penne pasta was excellent. The portion was so large I took home what I couldn't finish and had several more meals out of it. My host had a breaded shrimp started with a couple of different sauces on the platter. We finished with a slice of the Key Lime pie. Our waiter was welcoming, cheerful and was sure that our dining needs were met. The restaurant is lively and active. What can you say about Annie's other than iconic. If you want to have a good time at a good price Annie's happy hour is the magic you've been looking for. I've brought numerous people here to share in the joy that is this place and no one is ever disappointed. Strongly recommend if you are looking for some strong drinks, good service and some decent apps that you check it out. They do also have an upstairs bar with extra space if the downstairs is packed. My friend heard great things about the steak here and they did not disappoint! Be aware, Annie's is a hot spot on 17th on a Friday night, so we waited a bit to get seated. While my friend enjoyed his steak, I had the 8 oz. Bull in the Pan, a mix of marinated sirloin tips, green bell peppers, and onions. It comes with two sides and I got the buttered carrots and mashed potatoes. All of it was so delicious. I requested the sirloin tips cooked medium. It came out really flavorful, tender, and not chewy at all! I almost forgot that the dish was served with sauce on the side. I don't even want to guess how much butter they used to make the mashed potatoes and carrots so good. Carrots were also nice and tender. We got Fried Clams for the appetizer, which I think is a skip. Not quite the chunky clams I was thinking of. As previously mentioned, Annie's is busy on Fridays but quite lively. Even though the dining room was full the whole time we were there, my friend and I had a conversation where we could hear each other. At lunch it's very subdued. They have a happy hour crowd in the evening. It gets busy and a little louder in the evening and night. This restaurant is one of the few LGBTQ institutions left in DC. It is the perfect, mom's home cooking feeling to warm you up on any day. Annie's is truly an iconic joint in the DuPont Circle neighborhood. I've been to Annie's twice only for lunch, but both times have been a superb experience. The service is amazing and the staff make sure that you are very well taken care of. When I came here with a group of coworkers they ensured that we had a very comfortable seating area and that we received all our orders in a timely manner, and when I came here later with my husband for a weekend lunch we were blown away by the caring and kind interactions we had with our server. The food is wonderful and you can taste the high quality of ingredients used in everything. This was one of my favorite brunch spots to go to on a weekly basis. I even enjoyed going for happy hour. Great staff, food and drinks. However, I'm extremely disappointed in the way the general manager, Georgia handled a recent situation. We've been going to Annie's every Sunday for years with no problems. In recent months, we've had a server named Shawn you has caused problem. You can tell he can't manage large parties. This past Sunday, two orders came out while the rest of the table waited almost 10 mins for the remaining orders to come. When three of us finally got our food it wasn't hot. The manager Sarah was gracious to have our food remade and was very accommodating. We then ask for the check and it takes Shawn nearly 20 mins to get our check. When we go to inquire we notice he's at the bar on his phone. We were informed by the manager he was trying to work on something. That is not a problem but at least communicate that to us so we're not waiting. We leave with the intentions we don't want Shawn as our server again. There has been too many incidents that he hasn't been efficient like the other servers we've had. The following week we go to make our reservations and the general manager, Georgia informs us they can no longer accommodate us due to Shawn not feeling comfortable. First of all Georgia never called to hear our side of the story before making a final decision. Second, Shawn is the ONLY sever we've had issues with. We are consistent business for Annie's and we've been going every single Sunday for over the last four years. In this economy to lose business that garners you over $300 weekly is crazy. If I was the GM, I would have handled this situation differently. Very disappointing that ONE incident yields this result. read more

Went there with a group of five walked by several tables that could have fit us just to be taken upstairs to a secluded corner. ask the hostess if we could be seated downstairs she said it would be another 30 minute wait so we stayed. The waiter making a joke about us being stuck with him was clearly foreshadowing. He took our drink orders, brought those out, took our food order, including one appetizer and then left. Within minutes, another group arrived to a larger table across from us, which was double the size if not more people. We had to waive the waiter down for refills and for part of our drink order, and we noticed when the one appetizer did come out it was after the table with more people had all received their appetizers. We patiently continue to drink our beverages and the appetizer was finished. The food still never came out, and the waiter was even harder to find. We then noticed that more attention was paid to the larger group, including how quickly their food came out. No one came to check on us. No one gave us an update on our food. Nothing about what we ordered was complicated. By this point, all of our beverages were empty. The appetizers were finished 20 minutes prior, and the third lap to the table across from us bringing them more food finally got us an update about our food from the waiter. By this time it was an hour since we first came into the restaurant and we were done. A member of our party went to the bar downstairs and found the manager, told him what happened and was just told not to worry about it because as soon as the manager finished making cocktails, he would find out where our food was. This was absolutely unacceptable. We left Ca$h on the bar for our beverages and the one appetizer and then left.. If this is the type of service the community should expect after 75 years in business maybe it is time to retire. read more

My husband and I just had the most embarrassing and humiliating experience at Annie"s tonight. We stopped in for dinners and spend over $150 dollars on food/drinks. We were enjoining our last drinks after paying the bill. I was astounded when our bartender too my drink directly from in front of me. He said I had been overserve and was cut off. My husband and I had 3 cocktails each in the space of 3 hours. I am a 180lb male and can easily absorb that many drinks in that time. He and another bartender joined in in saying that I was seen sleeping. I can only assume it was because my head was down while reading my Kindle. The other bartender joining in with his accusations hadn't even served us-he was working the other end of the bar. I will not darken Annie's door again until me and my husband recieve an apology (and not from one of the vindictive queens involved. I highly recommend you do not go to Annie's until they start treating their customers with respect. read more

We picked Annie's Paramount for a pre-graduation dinner with family and friends due its: 1) proximity to our hotel; and 2) its group-pleasing menu of steaks and American comfort food. It was absolutely bustling on a Friday night at 6:30, with a loud and packed bar and every table occupied (We had made ressies). Atmosphere was friendly and upbeat. The clientele was mostly gay, as expected for this neighborhood. We noted that Annie's was celebrating their 75th anniversary this year - Impressive! Nice menu here for sure. Everyone found something they were excited about, including me (Crab cakes - I had missed the Maryland style). Since steaks are only a small part of the menu here, it seemed to me Annie's could replace "Steak" in their title with "Comfort Food." But then again - it doesn't really have a good ring to it. ;-) As for my meal: -- Maryland Crab Cakes: ($31) I ordered these fried and they were very OK. Nice flavor, but a little too doughy and bready for me. I couldn't find many visible lumps of crab meat either. A 4/10 on the crab cake scale. The mashed potatoes on the side were good but obviously scooped from a bin (complete with scoop marking); and the side broccoli was steamed with no detectable seasoning (3*) -- Key Lime Pie: ($9.50) Disappointing. A little too sweet and more of a cheesecake than a pie. Not nearly tart enough and too little key lime flavor. Did not finish it. Gets 3/10 on KLPS (key lime pie scale). And yes - everything has a scale. (1.5*) The rest of our party seemed to enjoy their food more than I; but I did not collect votes or ratings. (If any of them want to write a review I won't stop them). Based on my experience, however, I can't give Annie's anything better than a C-. Considering how popular this "institution" seems to be, I doubt it will make an iota of difference. read more

The hollandaise sauce was underseasoned and had no flavor and there were 2 pieces of fruit. The corn beef hash you could tell was from the can and I would not recommend getting it. The water also had flecks of random stuff in it and seemed to have some weird film at the top. I would not come back to this place again. After finishing half my plate, I started to feel very queasy and nauseous which is very unusual since I am known to digest everything. I knew exactly what I was going to receive(taste - quality and presentation of the ENTIRE menu.)The last time I went OVER A YEAR AGO, I ordered Eggs Benedict and received the hollandaise sauce on the side in a small metal thingy. (That was new presentation)! It room temperature, bland and gelatinous! The quality over MANY of their dishes has absolutely plummeted. Haven't been back since. Many regular patrons have told me that they've noticed it too and are no longer going. Considering our demographic, the raised prices are not the issue- it's about the quality loss through obvious shortcuts. For nearly 5 years, I have been going to Annies for food and happy hour, most noticeably Sunday brunch with my family. Weekly, about 8-10 of us gather for brunch and have had amazing experiences with Check and Mario as our primary servers (spending about $500 weekly between food and beverages). For the last 3 years, I have hosted my birthday brunch at Annie's with over 30 folks each year and each time Check has been the server and there have been NO ISSUES. In the last few months we have had a different server, Shawn, twice. The first time was in June (the date is faded on my receipt but I kept it with notes about the visit). The second time was two Sundays ago. This was the worst experience we have ever had at Annie's. When we placed our first order for beverages, they weren't good and Shawn explained that a new bartender was working and we asked if someone else could remake them. We later found out that Mario was working as bartender upstairs and asked if he could remake our drinks. Shawn responded very matter of factly, "I am not going to be getting drinks from upstairs for you." At that point, I got up from the table and went upstairs, ordered drinks, paid for them, and brought them back to the table. When we placed orders for food, I specifically asked for my food to be extra hot, and with a side of cajun remoulade sauce. When food began being delivered mine came out and my mother's (she ordered a salad). My food was barely warm. The rest of our table waiting for 20 minutes and then multiple persons food was very cold. Sara, the MOD, came over and noticed the issues and had the food remade. When it was time for the check, I requested it from Shawn, we waited almost 20 minutes. After having a very unique experience, I went to the bar where Shawn was, admittedly very frustrated with an elevated tone, and requested the check again from Shawn who was at the bar on his cell phone laughing. We later learned there was a issue that he was working on but it was NEVER communicated to us. The following week, when I went to confirm our weekly reservation, I was met with the following voicemail from Georgia, who never inquired from a very loyal customer group about our experience: "Hi, this is Georgia Catinas, the general manager at Annie's Paramount Steakhouse. Um, I wanted to call regarding yesterday's incident. Um, But basically, while we appreciate your previous business, it has become apparent to us that we can no longer meet your expectations or standards. Um, Sundays incident was was disrespectful to our staff and the rest of the customers in the restaurant. Um, we wish you well in finding a different restaurant who can accommodate you all, but we will no longer be able to host your group every week. Good luck at fining somewhere else." In a separate review from another member of our party, Georgia shared the following response: "This past weekend your party raised their voices at Sean in the middle of the dining room causing a disruption to other guests' brunch experiences and creating an uncomfortable environment for both staff and patrons... it is never acceptable to yell at a member of our team..." Well... her saying multiple food and beverage items were returned isn't what caused her to respond the way she did. That was the surface issue--a convenient deflection. If that had truly been the problem, they would've refused service to us long ago. What she's doing here is classic sandbagging: bringing up a minor, unrelated issue to mask the real concern. It's a diversionary tactic, and the real issue was made crystal clear. That's the heart of it. Everything else is noise. It's unfortunate that it had to escalate to this point, and even more unfortunate that it wasn't addressed directly in the moment. In these times of uncertainty, Georgia's response and that kind of indifference is baffling when you're talking about consistent revenue and loyal clientele. Regulars aren't just customers; they're the heartbeat of a business. Losing $500 every Sunday isn't just a missed opportunity, it's a slow leak in the bottom line. read more

I've been an Annie's regular for decades. I got my 30-year pin during their 75th anniversary celebration. Annie's is my Cheers; everyone knows my name, even the bussers. I like everything I've tried on the menu. For me, the highlights are the bull in the pan, ribs, burgers, mac & cheese bites, chocolate cheesecake . . . The cocktail pour at Annie's is the best in the city. And sitting at the bar is always entertaining. But the best thing about Annie's is the staff: the owner Paul and manager Georgia, the bartenders, the waiters, the bussers, and the kitchen staff, everyone works hard to give the customers a great experience. And Paul and Georgia have created an atmosphere where the staff feel supported and loved and that shows in how they all work together as an amazing team. And Georgia's decor! Whether I'm there by myself for dinner with my buddies at the bar or with my usual group of friends every Friday (6-12 people) it's always a great experience.
