When coming into Annie's, I was excited because it was cute on the outside and it seemed relatively refined as a restaurant. I was unsure what to get for brunch so I asked the waitress what the best option was for benedicts and she recommended the corn beef hash benedict. When it came to the table it seemed okay. The hollandaise sauce was underseasoned and had no flavor and there were 2 pieces of fruit. The corn beef hash you could tell was from the can and I would not recommend getting it. The water also had flecks of random stuff in it and seemed to have some weird film at the top. I would not come back to this place again. After finishing half my plate, I started to feel very queasy and nauseous which is very unusual since I am known to digest everything. I've been a loyal regular at Annie's for 35-plus years and knew/know the staff and they knew me. I knew exactly what I was going to receive(taste - quality and presentation of the ENTIRE menu.)The last time I went OVER A YEAR AGO, I ordered Eggs Benedict and received the hollandaise sauce on the side in a small metal thingy. (That was new presentation)! It room temperature, bland and gelatinous! The quality over MANY of their dishes has absolutely plummeted. Haven't been back since. Many regular patrons have told me that they've noticed it too and are no longer going. Considering our demographic, the raised prices are not the issue- it's about the quality loss through obvious shortcuts. For nearly 5 years, I have been going to Annies for food and happy hour, most noticeably Sunday brunch with my family. Weekly, about 8-10 of us gather for brunch and have had amazing experiences with Check and Mario as our primary servers (spending about $500 weekly between food and beverages). For the last 3 years, I have hosted my birthday brunch at Annie's with over 30 folks each year and each time Check has been the server and there have been NO ISSUES. In the last few months we have had a different server, Shawn, twice. The first time was in June (the date is faded on my receipt but I kept it with notes about the visit). The second time was two Sundays ago. This was the worst experience we have ever had at Annie's. When we placed our first order for beverages, they weren't good and Shawn explained that a new bartender was working and we asked if someone else could remake them. We later found out that Mario was working as bartender upstairs and asked if he could remake our drinks. Shawn responded very matter of factly, "I am not going to be getting drinks from upstairs for you." At that point, I got up from the table and went upstairs, ordered drinks, paid for them, and brought them back to the table. When we placed orders for food, I specifically asked for my food to be extra hot, and with a side of cajun remoulade sauce. When food began being delivered mine came out and my mother's (she ordered a salad). My food was barely warm. The rest of our table waiting for 20 minutes and then multiple persons food was very cold. Sara, the MOD, came over and noticed the issues and had the food remade. When it was time for the check, I requested it from Shawn, we waited almost 20 minutes. After having a very unique experience, I went to the bar where Shawn was, admittedly very frustrated with an elevated tone, and requested the check again from Shawn who was at the bar on his cell phone laughing. We later learned there was a issue that he was working on but it was NEVER communicated to us. The following week, when I went to confirm our weekly reservation, I was met with the following voicemail from Georgia, who never inquired from a very loyal customer group about our experience: "Hi, this is Georgia Catinas, the general manager at Annie's Paramount Steakhouse. Um, I wanted to call regarding yesterday's incident. Um, But basically, while we appreciate your previous business, it has become apparent to us that we can no longer meet your expectations or standards. Um, Sundays incident was was disrespectful to our staff and the rest of the customers in the restaurant. Um, we wish you well in finding a different restaurant who can accommodate you all, but we will no longer be able to host your group every week. Good luck at fining somewhere else." In a separate review from another member of our party, Georgia shared the following response: "This past weekend your party raised their voices at Sean in the middle of the dining room causing a disruption to other guests' brunch experiences and creating an uncomfortable environment for both staff and patrons... it is never acceptable to yell at a member of our team..." Well... her saying multiple food and beverage items were returned isn't what caused her to respond the way she did. That was the surface issue--a convenient deflection. If that had truly been the problem, they would've refused service to us long ago. What she's doing here is classic sandbagging: bringing up a minor, unrelated issue to mask the real concern. It's a diversionary tactic, and the real issue was made crystal clear. That's the heart of it. Everything else is noise. It's unfortunate that it had to escalate to this point, and even more unfortunate that it wasn't addressed directly in the moment. In these times of uncertainty, Georgia's response and that kind of indifference is baffling when you're talking about consistent revenue and loyal clientele. Regulars aren't just customers; they're the heartbeat of a business. Losing $500 every Sunday isn't just a missed opportunity, it's a slow leak in the bottom line. read more

I've been an Annie's regular for decades. I got my 30-year pin during their 75th anniversary celebration. Annie's is my Cheers; everyone knows my name, even the bussers. I like everything I've tried on the menu. For me, the highlights are the bull in the pan, ribs, burgers, mac & cheese bites, chocolate cheesecake . . . The cocktail pour at Annie's is the best in the city. And sitting at the bar is always entertaining. But the best thing about Annie's is the staff: the owner Paul and manager Georgia, the bartenders, the waiters, the bussers, and the kitchen staff, everyone works hard to give the customers a great experience. And Paul and Georgia have created an atmosphere where the staff feel supported and loved and that shows in how they all work together as an amazing team. And Georgia's decor! Whether I'm there by myself for dinner with my buddies at the bar or with my usual group of friends every Friday (6-12 people) it's always a great experience. During my first visit to Annie's, I was so happy to see they take a different route instead: making classic brunch dishes but using the highest quality ingredients and doing the classics well. I got the feta bacon omelet and my fiancee chose the chicken and french toast. Not only are the portions generous but the meals very tasty. I'm not sure what they do to their eggs to make them so flavorful, but this was among the best omelets I've had. If you're looking to have nice American comfort food then this is your place. One of the oldest restaurants in DC and it has been catering to their loyal customers for a very long time. They have very good outdoor arrangements with patio heaters to keep everyone warm and socially distant. We decided to dine there and I am glad they had a table free around the time we arrived. It was pretty packed and that's a good sign that customers love it. On this particular day there was a struggle with good service but I still gave them 4 stars cause they informed us in advance that they were short handed as couple of their servers had taken leave. And that's fair. Since we were not in a hurry we actually didn't mind. But the main reason I gave them 4 is cause in the end when the server came to collect the check, he noticed we had written 5% tip on the credit card but we had kept the rest in the form of cash beneath the check. He immediately jumped to a conclusion that we just gave him 5% without checking the entire bill. That was disappointing cause he should have taken time to check the entire bill and we actually gave him 25% to appreciate that he was working during the pandemic. Lessons learned - patience is the key in whatever you're doing. We could have easily given him less money. Anyways, let's get to the food now. We ordered entrees and dessert that night. If you're not in the mood to eat a lot then I suggest you jump straight to entrees. Huge portions awaits you. I ordered their social London broil with rice and steamed potatoes. Last night was my last night in town with a friend. We both were surprised that the vibe of the steakhouse was so casual and fun, WE LOVED IT. I had the Dip and my friend had a DELICIOUS pesto pasta with the Best homemade key lime pie at the end. Food was definitely 10/10. I wanted to shoutout our server, Susan. I absolutely loved coming to this restaurant, however last night while on a date a server asked for my ID, which absolutely okay because I am 27 but look a bit younger. However, he approached me (black) and my date (white) and stated "I'm sorry I had to ask, it's just I thought he was your parole officer or something" by an older employee who was around his 50s. It completely shocked me and my date immediately asked if he heard what he thought he heard. I joked it off and continued the date. I just want to say... I have never been so disappointed in an establishment where friends are staff and I attend regularly. Looking up Annie's online, I had no idea it was a steakhouse. And when I mentioned I came here to a friend, I was told it was a breakfast place. Well, I came here for burgers - and considering that it's a steakhouse, now I understand why the burgers were good.. And their burgers are really good, and with thick patties, which I had requested to be cooked medium rare. I had the Swiss burger and it hit the spot beautifully, with mushroom and cheese. I also like that there are plenty of sides to choose from, more than a typical burger place I've been to (maybe I need to get out more lol). Came here on Sunday when it was perfect patio weather, the famous martini is no joke. Its a great deal for the amount of booze that comes in it, but tasted like straight vodka. I enjoy going to Annie's for dinner last night. My only issue was the limited choices from healthy dining on the menu. I selected the grilled salmon, but it doesn't include any bed of vegetables or salad. That's all extra. If you just order the salmon, you get a laughably small portion of fish with a barren plate otherwise. read more

What a fun restaurant! I enjoyed the ambience and the servers and the other people. It made me think of Cheers, where everybody knows your name. it is clearly a community gathering place and for good reason. The drinks flow freely and it is a very accepting environment. Advertises itself as LGBTQ+. We are not from the DC area but we're staying two blocks away with friends, who highly recommend the place. So far we've been there twice once with friends from the area and two grandchildren. Tonight we went with the two of us , my husband and I. I love this place and will probably will go again before we leave the area. I took off one star for my review. This is only because I'm a crabcake snob, born in Baltimore. The first night I ordered the crabcakes. The second night I ordered crabcake bites and wedge salad. my husband ordered the pot roast and he ate most of my crabcake bites. We were a party of 4. We had a reservation for 5:30 on a Friday afternoon. Initially we were going to sit outside, but there was a thunderstorm brewing. So, we were seated inside. It was very impressive The inside was very nice, not what I expected, but then I did, if that makes sense! So lets jump to the meal. Ordered wings for appetizer, they were good. Im not much of a chicken person but they were tasty. Our server was Ja'Dawn, she was awesome, very attentive and full of recommendations. We decided to go with the seafood/steak combo and also the rib-eye! Steaks were great, the crab cake could of used less filling, more crab, but over all tasty.
