I have gone to Ann's for several years for mani pedis. They have had an incentive program to buy 4 services & get 1 free. I earned my 2 free services for mani/pedi. I redeemed my services Saturday 5:30pm. They charged me a balance on my card $15 for a paraffin wax added to my manicure. Fine. I asked if I could add tip on the card and they gave me a ticket with a charge of $40 and thanked me for tip (a $25 I did not approve) and told me I don't need to add tip and just sign for $40. I was ticked about that but I let it go bc I was using gift coupons. There were 2 ppl not doing anything while I got my pedicure. Then after my pedicure, Henry moved me to the hand services station. Worst manicure ever. No lotion. No wax. Buffed & filed the nails so hard they hurt. I asked about the paraffin wax I paid for and Henry wrote down numbers on papers. I tried to understand what my coupons covered & what the $40 covered. Anyway, Henry said come back for paraffin wax another time. The nail filing looks so bad & there is a strange black/brown tint on my finger nails. They look dirty. Even though I keep my nails short & don't paint them, I like to have them filed evenly & buffed & shined. My toenails were not dry after 2 hours & smudged after 8pm. I hoped for a relaxing late afternoon/early evening treat. Wasted time & money. I am going elsewhere to get my nails fixed & will not return to Ann's. read more

Went here on a whim because I needed my nails done while in town. The service was very lackluster. We walked in and was immediately greeted by a confused young man. Overlooked that picked out our colors and sat in the massage chair water was too hot but as I spoke that I was ignored ok let that slide as well. The tech began to massage my feet while my friend let hers soak. All this time nobody comes to assist my friend. An older guy walks in and addresses me about my nail color, still nothing to my friend. A lady sits next to me and a woman walks out to get her situated in the chair. STILL NOTHING TO MY FRIEND! Needless to say we walk out of there unserviced and will not be going back no matter what. The communication was poor and the customer service even poorer. i don't usually write reviews but I came here to get my nails done at this place for the first time and the guy that started to do mine first of all , he had on gloves that were used on the pervious clients and he continued to use them on me , which eventually he changed them cause they ripped on him. 2nd the application wasn't the best i kept asking him to file it and not use so much and he left it lumpy , he didn't even give me a chance to look at them he just told me to wash them and he had put everything away. Then when i come back he has someone else to finish my nails while he does someone elses, but mine weren't even done. 3rd i've never broken my nails and after 5 days of having them they started to crack , and i can't take the rest of the nail off because he put so much glue , like an excessive amount. the place felt gross and careless never again will I go . read more

So I don't know what has happened to this place but I really hadn't visited this spot due to the pandemic and today was the last time I'll ever go in. Conflicted about the rating to give. In the one hand, the practices for hygiene get top marks which is a really big deal to infection prone me. Prices arent too bad, and theres usually not a wait. But strikes against include the distracted chattering while working that always seems to get me a cuticle snip ending in bloodshed. (How dramatic i know, but true.) Usually its very minor but it's annoying and to me a mark of a lacking professionalism in the staffs traits. Swinging back around to the mostly warm open personalities and being a family run place you tend to see the same ladies and get to know each of them a little. But weighing against them is the undeniable speed to finish, making you feel like you've pulled into a Valero and the District Manager is timing them! (which for an overly sensitive individual such as myself is a level of pure hell) They have options, they're pretty quick and unless your OCD or picky i feel like most people would enjoy this place. I never leave a bad review but my experience here made me feel that I had to. I have never had such a bad pedicure experience before. First they had a 10% off pedicure sign on their door (I guess that should have been the 1st sign to stay away) and then when they hand you their menu you can see they quite obviously blacked out the pedicure prices and rewrote them 10% higher so really you are paying the same price, they couldn't even reprint their service menu just sharpied all over it lol!!! We had our pedicure experience and overall it felt quite rushed and careless, never felt like herded cattle at the nail salon before! After they slapped on some polish, the man who did my pedicure made a point to walk over to my massage chair, turn it off, grab my purse, and tell me I needed to move to another chair with a dryer. It was bizarre and laughable at my usual nail salon they would NEVER do that. So I moved and went under the dryer, after about 5 minutes another employee, walked up to me, and my friend who also got a haphazard pedicure, and touched my toes,and said "You're dry!" Ripped the toe dividers and foam flip flops off my feet and then took them away to the back. My friend later then questioned if they reused them because usually nail places let you walk out with them, honestly I wouldn't be surpised! When I got home and looked at my feet I literally laughed because it looked like a blind 3rd grader painted my toes!! Any and her team do great work. They treat guests like family, they know their regulars well and even some non-regular regulars like me. I don't come often but when I do I'm greeted by name, offered a drink, and made comfortable often with a pillow for my head. Personally, I wish the pedi chairs could accommodate tall people (I'm over 6 ft) better. They get the job done though. Services here take a while- not in a bad way but be ready to relax and slow down. I've been to competitors in the area and while it might be cheaper by a bit, they are also much less attentive and I'm done in less than an hour. They're either too soft handed or too heavy handed. The man who was taking off my gel nails used a fake nail to get the gel off. My nail beds were so sore afterwards. Also he gave me the wrong color for my toes. Sloppy work. No clean up. I asked for my nails to be cut down shorter and coffin shaped. My thumb nails looks like it's leaning. I was a little bit underwhelmed by the service I received here but at the same time happily surprised by how nice the people working were. The salon is located off Broadway in Alamo Heights in the back of the strip mall behind So Luna. It's a small space. Three manicure tables and 4 pedicure chairs. It's sort of non-descript in decor. Not much on the wall and very little personality. But the people working there more than make up for it. They're friendly, talkative, funny and personable. Really great. But the bottom line is no matter how nice the people were, I was there to have a service which I paid for and frankly the service was blah. My nails didn't look great after and I even went to another salon I trust for a polish change the next day. So as nice as they are here I just can't recommend them very highly bc the service was not great. read more

I hate to leave low ratings, I feel that everyone can have a bad day. But after our experience, others should be warned. Also, it was our fault for staying past making to our seats. Very pushy trying to decide which pedi we wanted, wouldn't give us time to read the options. The seats were very dirty, my cup holder and armrest had nail filing from previous people and gunk all over. The girl that was doing my nieces pedi threw out a couple f-bombs while complaining about having to work. Half way through our pedis a group of six came in....this basically ended our turns. An 8 minute leg massage was less then a minute and I was literally sat at the waiting area while a lady painted my nails on the floor. When we paid, the lady clarified 4 times the tip section that clearly had a zero in it. It was Sunday and no other salons were open, otherwise we would have left. read more

This location on Broadway was really nice. Very clean, quiet atmosphere, large selection of polishes and magazines. Cong did my pedicure and almost put me to sleep. Richard, the manager, offers you something to drink and then leaves you alone. Nothing looked unsanitary or broken and no "nail salon odor" permeated throughout the salon. i went in wanting a matching mani pedi with a fill for my nails. i picked out a gel polish i loved and wanted on my fingers and toes. i will say the pedicure was amazing and the color looked great! however when it came to my nails i had a different technician and he was pretty rough which i'm willing to deal with for good nails. however the whole time i thought i was going to get my nails painted with this perfect pink but he only did the powder and a clear coat and it looks like my nails are only partially done with scratches and air bubbles still visible . when i asked him about it he gave me some slightly frustrated answer and i just wish it had been communicated before or i would not have gotten gel on my toes. now i'm stuck with nails i'll have to go somewhere else to fix after $100 here. i will say the woman here was very kind and attentive though. read more

This place was totally unsanitary. I had shellac on, so they soaked my hands in alcohol to remove it and then poured the dirty water into the pedicure tub that my feet were soaking in. And then proceeded to wash my legs with the dirty water. Then, the man doing my nails was not wearing gloves and used his 2 inch long fingernails to scrape underneath my nails. This wasn't my favorite place. Today my regular salon was full and was not accepting walk ins so I decided to come to Ann's Nails. I was greeted by a friendly man who wanted me to pick a color ( I was doing the dip nails ) however he made me choose from the power itself, rather than the pre painted nail you see everywhere else. I picked my color, and had to waited. The manicure was average-- and he almost didn't put the color on that I wanted. He assumed I didn't want any color (when the dip was right next to him) so I only got one coat. I also didn't get a massage which is NOT normal. After wearing out my welcome at Lynn's Nails (I never carry cash and they don't have a place to write in a tip on the credit card slips--frustrating!), I came to Ann's Nails because of its convenient location on my way back from work, when some TLC and a good chair massage is often needed the most. The salon is a little on the cramped side, particularly in the pedicure area. However, the owner, Richard, greets every customer right away and that's a major plus. In the six times I've gone back, I've never had that standing-in-the-doorway-while-all-eight-nail-techs-stare-at-me-in-disbelief feeling that comes with many nail salons (you know what I'm talking about). The price is on par with every other salon in the area-- $30ish for the basic spa pedicure, though they never hesitate to inquire whether I'd like to upgrade to the sea salt, fancy lotion, etc. etc. special. I never do, but it's nice that they ask. Maybe someday. Out of the four different techs at Ann's who have handled my toes, Amy is the best. She will beat the crap out of your feet during the massage, but it feels/hurts so good that you'll start crying when she stops. She does a great job shaping and painting. The best part about the experience is her laugh, which erupts often. I never really understand what's so funny, but she's so jolly that it just doesn't matter. Here's the thing... nail polish is nail polish.. but the service... that's what makes me come back. From the very beginning, Richard, the owner, has been super nice. The other staff also. They give you a glass of wine or soda as soon as you arrive. Here's the thing, the second time I came back, they all remembered my name and they remembered most of the stuff I told them about myself. And they remembered what colors I liked. How can it get any better than that, It's like going to "Cheers" where everybody knows your name! During the holiday season, they gave me and my friends a gift bag with lotion and a calender. How nice is that? And today, it was my friend's birthday, and when i called to make an appt for us, I told Richard, the owner.. and I kid you not, he bought her an ice cream cake for her birthday from Cold Stone Creamery! He wouldn't even let me pay half for it, he said, we are all friends.. :) I mean, how can I not say that they are as good as it gets... I think they do a pretty good job on the pedicures and they are good about keeping things sanitary... And they are super friendly and nice. I definitely recommend people to go here, especially those who like to be "regulars" and treated like family cus you are a "regular"! About Bess M.'s comment about paying CASH for tips, I don't think this is true at all. I've had many different techs, including the owner work with me, and they have never said that before, and I've always paid with my CC. And trust me, I have no boundaries, so we usually talk about everything... :) PS There are tons of Ann's nails, but they told me they are all separately owned. The pictures for this Ann's is not the right one. This Ann's is next to the Bank of America on Broadway, right after broadway and kennedy. It is fairly small, but they have 6 spa pedicure chairs and about 5 manicure stations. Really great job. Extreme attention to detail during each step. They did not rush through any part of the pedicure even though I only got the basic (I feel like some places treat you differently based on which service you ask for). I got a gel pedicure here more than two months ago and the polish hasn't budged one little bit. I am so impressed. I've gotten gel pedicures at other salons that held up okay, but some of the nails always chipped off after a few weeks. This is still pristine. The technicians were all very friendly and helpful when I was there as well, and the massage and wax treatment were very luxurious. I'll be coming back! read more

I think I had Andrew. It was probably my worst "gel" manicure ever (and I've been doing these every few weeks for years). He put on about 10 coats - literally - and kept insisting that I keep each hand in for 3 rounds of 60 seconds each between each coat. I think that light exposure is bad for you already - but that was certainly too much. It also took forever ... and ultimately looks clumpy and dull because it was far too many layers and probably couldn't dry. And there's nail polish on my cuticles so it looks like I painted my nails myself, with my bad hand. Plus, he also cut up cuticles so that there are blood stains in the grooves. I came here on a whim last month and I'm so glad I did! I had Vivien, and did a great job. I got a pedicure ( the basic ) and a shellac color change and it was only $50. Unfortunately I got a gel/shellac manicure hoping that it would last at least two weeks, as that's how long they usually last for me, but it didn't even last 24 hours. Ann's has been my regular nail salon for about 4 years. Several reviews express how rude Richard is; I have never experienced this or seen him treat anyone that came in rudely. In fact, I have been there several times as they were closing when someone walked in and they accommodated. I usually see Amy and she is meticulous taking extra care to do an excellent job. The new nail technician, Alyssa, she has done my acrylic refills twice; I tend to be critical on how my nails get filed but I had no complaints either time. read more
