I came from out of state, looking for a place to watch with a group of 4. When I saw Anthony's, our hearts dropped. We did not expect it to be within the old neighborhood of San Antonio, nor on the corner of a gas station. But as we got out, I started to understand why this place was truly loved. They have discounts for veterans, students, and a couple more groups of people I can't remember off the top of my head. They aim to serve their community within the area, offering multiple specials, and opportunities to make their food affordable. It's cheap, sure, but is it worth the wait? I'd say so. We may not have gotten our food under 30 minutes, but by god was it fresh. The lemonade was sweet and representative of a family reunion cook out. If the quality of what they served wasn't indicative of the amount of people that parked and walked up to order some food, it would be my order of catfish nuggets with their sauce, fries, and their large lemonade. They serve catfish, tilapia, and chicken as you'd expect. You can get poppers (also great) and multiple sides, but I say all of this with praise that with your chicken, your fish - it comes with fries. Since my usual go-to spot, Chatman's Chicken, is closed on Mondays and I believe they're still on vacation as well, I had to find somewhere else to get my fried chicken fix. That's how I ended up trying Anthony Fish & Chicken, and honestly it turned out better than expected. The restaurant is located on the east side of San Antonio, which happens to be the area I grew up in. Some people who aren't familiar with the area might consider it a little rough, but in my experience those neighborhoods often have some of the best food in the city. I called in my order and was quoted about 25 minutes. It took a little longer than that, but it wasn't a problem. When I pulled up there were a grip of cars waiting for food, so clearly the place stays busy. One thing to know if it's your first time: if you don't call ahead, you order at the window. I accidentally tried going inside at first and was told they were serving through the window only, which was fair enough. I ordered the 15-piece lemon pepper chicken, which came with fries and two slices of bread. We also grabbed steak nachos at the last minute, and those didn't even make it home because they got demolished in the car. They were loaded with toppings and I'm pretty sure they used Doritos for the chips, which added extra flavor. The chicken itself was excellent. Crispy, fresh, and clearly made to order. The legs and thighs were seasoned well and the portion size was generous. A 15-piece could easily feed a small family of three or four. Between the nachos and a couple sides we made at home, it actually ended up feeding five people comfortably. The crinkle cut fries were also solid and had a nice seasoning on them, and the hot sauce they give with the chicken paired really well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I arrived there were a grip of cars waiting, and after trying the food I understand why.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Compared to my number one fried chicken spot, Chatman's Chicken, this place honestly holds its own. The chicken here is crispy, fresh, and flavorful all the way through. Another thing I appreciated was the value. I've seen places around San Antonio charging close to $20 for a simple three-piece meal, and the food doesn't even come close to this quality. Here the portions and price felt much more reasonable. Anthony's definitely has something going on. They have a solid menu with plenty of combos and options for a good price. Next time I'll probably try the wings because they looked great coming out of the kitchen. Overall this spot definitely satisfied my fried chicken craving. I'll be back again. read more

I will always hunt for good ole fried food that reminds me of home. We ordered around 7:45 and they told us it would be about a 25 minute wait. All that means to me is that it's made fresh and I love that. I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp with fries. We were eating this before going into a bar 8 minutes away and it was still hot when we arrived to our destination. The battering was crisp and I know it was hand battered the way I eat them in Houston. They were well seasoned and so were the fries! I feel like some fish fry joints abandon the fries to in terms of seasoning, making you rely on condiments but these are great on their own. Oh we also ordered the gizzards however they were overly cooked to our liking so we spoke with gentleman and told him about the gizzards being overly cooked and he apologized for them being overly cooked and was willing to replace them with something different. I agree with the previous review, this area may seem a bit sketch. Especially since this eatery is located at the rear of a gas station/convenience store. Put your head on swivel and just go grab a bite. The menu prices are very decent and the food is pretty good. * Do not attempt to walk into this restaurant, you'll be standing behind the cashier's desk. Just read the menu next to the door and order at the window, they'll walk it out to you when it's ready. I had the catfish 2 piece from the lunch menu. My coworker had the 6 piece chicken and gyro plate (he's greedy-lol). Both of us were pretty satisfied. I would highly suggest using a bit more cornmeal with the flour coating (it's the Louisiana in me). I must say the seasoning was still on point. I'll admit; be aware pulling up that it's a walkup window & it's on the backside of a gas station with A LOT of sketchy activity-and we went in the daytime... Went to Anthony this morning for the first time, order 6 pieces of chicken, and a hamburger, the gentleman that took my order suggested the chicken tenders, sonIngot them, when I got home I ate the hamburger first, it was good, I was going to wait to eat the chicken and the tenders for later but I couldn't resist, so I started to eat one of the chicken tenders, let me say they were pretty big tenders and the gentleman was right, they are delicious better then any other chicken tenders I have had, just by them self they are delicious but with the sauce he give me was even better.
