First time going here yesterday... Co worker recommended this place and said there steak tips salads were good, because they used the Dom's steak tips.. For those who don't know Dom's has one of the best steak tips in the game and they're located in Malden... So I said let's go for lunch I love Dom's steak tips! They are sooo good, when I got back to work with the food my coworker said I had order the wrong steak tips, we looked at the menu and the other steak tips were honey bbq so I don't think they sell the Dom's steak tips here. Overpriced, Overpriced, and Overpriced! I understand prices of things have gone up but this is ridiculous... a cold turkey sub and soda - $21. Want a plain ham sandwich on white bread? That will cost ya $12. I could understand if the sandwiches were out of this world, but the bread is soggy, the tomatoes are green, and the bacon is cold. Why charge so much? Greedy? Watch what they charge you! Anthony's seems to have a little "scam" going on. They upcharge every meal 3.5% whether you pay cash or not. When called on it, they say it is for credit cards, but there is no signage disclosing any upcharge nor is it ethical do so (they should give you a discount for cash, not an upcharge). They also compute state sales tax incorrectly. The tax rate in Reading is 6.25%. I've paid less than 6% and sometimes up to 10%. When I complain, they insist that the sales tax is correct. The AG's office doesn't want to do anything about this. I'm hoping someone from the city will see this and that others that have been ripped off by this consumer fraud will speak up. read more

Wish I could give zero stars . This place is absolutely disgusting. All tips in that tip jar that you put money in at the register go to the owner, none of them go to the employees. Ever! There is black mold all in the back of the restaurant where the food is cooked. They do not thoroughly clean the back of the restaurant where the food is being cooked. They do not clean nor wear gloves when preparing the food. They use a garden hose to clean the dishes which is not up to code. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to eat here. Don't waste your money here go somewhere else. Also don't tip inside the store because it does not go to the hard-working employees it goes to the owner who takes a vacation every other week! Went to eat the leftovers today and crunched on a Hex Nut. Called the shop and I was told there is no supervisor on this afternoon. Left my name and number. Ordered delivery from them at 12:10 pm . Simple order of two subs. It's right now 2:05 pm and have still not received the order !!! I called at 1:08 pm an hour after placing the order and was told it had just left...an hour an 12 minutes it still hasn't arrived. I guess the Deliveryman is walking instead of using his car. To top it off at 1:32 pm I called the lady again and she said that it was out with the delivery, when I asked if she could get an ETA from driver she " she's stated there's no way I can do that , sorry!" I left work two hours ago and i felt really hungry i was driving by Anthony's and thought to my self i dont feel like making dinner tonight so im just going to swing by for something light! i ordered a chicken kabob salad they made it really fast which i was glad for since i was starving lol it tasted really really good the vegetable looked and tastes very fresh , the chicken was so juicy the way i love! I am horribly astonished over these bad reviews! Particularly since most of them are complaining of having "TOO MUCH" food.. WHO complains about that? Anyhow.. I worked PT at the Home Depot in Reading and the associates had all been ordering from Anthony's since it was Londi's so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered the Honey BBQ Steak Tip salad and after eating it, I was 100% SOLD that this place was incredible. They also offer a Honey BBQ Steak Tip wrap which, is equally delicious. I worked in Woburn FT and my office would place a $100 plus order everyday and have it delivered for lunch. They were always prompt and the food was never cold. On the occasion, a few of us would venture out of the office and go there to eat, and coming from Woburn, we were in/ate/out and back to work w/i an hour. When our office moved to Burlington behind the mall, Anthony graciously agreed to deliver to us since we were such good customers. Sadly we had to cut our order to once a week so, why not choose half price pasta day! Another thing I love about Anthony's is the over friendly staff, how they remember your order AND the pizza roll.... you have to try it! As a company in the area coworkers and i order all the time. We order at lease 3 or 4 times a week and order at least $50 dollars at the low side. The food is really good BUT unfortunately they lack and when i say LACK i mean have NO customer service skills at all.. they are very quick on the phone. As if it is a inconvenience to be placing a order.. hello: if we dont place orders YOU DONT HAVE A BUSINESS: as a customer we should not feel like we are a inconvenience. . If you like paying for cold pizza with ants on it and nice, hot salad on a 95 degree day then this is the place for you! Otherwise I would steer clear and order from one of the other dozens of places in town. I ordered a large cheese pizza and a salad at 5 pm and was quoted a 6 pm delivery time. By 7:15 it still wasn't here so I called to check on it. The girl told me that the delivery boy had knocked and called but no one answered so he had "just left" the food at my door. Even though I knew no one had been here I checked and there was no abandoned food at my doorstep. The girl apologized and said she would send out a fresh order right away. About 15 minutes later an apologetic delivery boy arrived at my door and explained that "they" had given him the wrong address the first time. He was embarrassed and the replacement order had arrived quickly so I told him it was no big deal. Until... he left and I realized the pizza I was holding was not hot and couldn't possibly be fresh. I put it on the counter and opened it to check it and there were 5-6 ANTS CRAWLING ALL OVER IT. The salad container felt like it had been microwaved (it was very very hot out). I immediately called AGAIN to explain that I had clearly not been sent a fresh order. Instead the delivery kid must have returned to wherever he had "just left" this food and then brought it to me, 2 hours and 45 minutes after I placed the order. The girl apologized again and offered to send me another order which of course I declined. I said I just wanted my money refunded and she said she would take care of it. A few days later I realized my money was never refunded so I called AGAIN and explained the situation to a manager who told me she had to refund two peoples money the night before and she wasnt sure what had happened but she would see to it that my money was refunded, took my credit card number again and my phone number. It's two weeks later and I still dont have my money refunded, so they're obviously not going to do it. Which is really why I felt the need to write this review. Sadly, because I love the food, I was willing to overlook this whole incident (ants and all ) and chalk it up to a teenager delivery boy with zero common sense. But the lack of common sense or customer care is clearly something that comes from upper management at this place. I would actually be concerned about safely eating there again - if they are going to leave food on random doorsteps and then go and collect it after it's been sitting in the heat for almost 2 hours, what other food risks are they taking??? Finally I should mention that I was 40 weeks pregnant at the time as well. So this was the LAST thing I had the patience for. read more

We've been getting takeout here for years and it has definitely gone downhill. The last handful of times we've ordered from Anthony's, our order has been wrong. Every. Single. Time. Tonight, there was no bacon on my chicken cutlet club and no lettuce on the other sandwich on our order (specifically asked for lettuce and mayo) It's listed on our receipt but the person who made our sandwiches just decided to omit apparently. Also, what's up with the $1.11 "convenience charge? For pickup? Really? You can offer all the weekday specials you want, but until you can give your customers what they order AND PAY FOR, expect decline in your sales. We paid $27 tonight for 2 sandwiches prepared incorrectly and a pizza roll. Ridiculous. read more

I seriously have no idea where these bad reviews are coming from. I LOVE Anthony's!!! I used to work down the street and my office would go there to get half priced pasta once a week and everyone raved about it so I went with a co-worker one day and got a honey steak tip wrap and omg I fell in love that day. I honestly can't say that I've tried too much of the other food but I have tried the honey steak tips in a variety of ways and they are all delicious. The best is on a sub with american cheese. I am drooling right now. I don't work anywhere near there but still go there when I can because I just crave that honey steak tip. I also got my boyfriend hooked on Anthony's and he lives no where near Reading but we will make a special trip to eat there. He tells me that all of the food is amazing. Last week he ate an entire small pizza and a large pastrami sub because it's that good. I also have a huge point to make about Anthony's- the people that work there are so nice. I work in Lynn now and what I wouldn't give to be able to call a place without feeling as though Im bothering the hag on the other line for placing an order. You call Anthony's and they are cheerful and polite. Walk in there and they treat you like an old friend. So 5 stars from me, I have yet to find a decent place to order food from since i switched jobs and good service is such a hard thing to come by these days. read more

Sorry, but when you have a plethora of sub/pizza shops to choose from, one does get prejudiced toward good taste and freshness - this is NOT one of them. As I waited a good 5 minutes - and in this environment that is a long time to wait - one female on the phone, OK she was busy, another just placing plastic forks with several salads to go, and a male kitchen staff just waltzing to the front with nary a care of a customer standing there unattended. I had ordered take-out and was waiting to pick up a small chicken and large veal parmesan and after taking them home - in less than 7 minutes - opened them BOTH up which were very dry and overdone. The sauce was as plain as it gets and lacking flavor. The sub bread was at least fresh, having some of its own taste, which was the only saving grace. Nope, you only have your first impression in the fast food business, and judging from what others have written, they apparently keep waiting for each new customer to order, leave and not come back. read more

Today I ordered to go and got it delivered to me as a sit down meal. My chicken kabob salad did not have chicken on it (I found when I got home)! This was my last time...definitely! PS. Anthony, the restaurant owner, and his wife, couldn't be more rude and off-putting, if they tried to be. It is very surprising to see, for such a nice and small town. My order was incorrect and instead of apologizing, like a good business-owner should, he was so incredibly huffy and rude to me. I think that both he and his wife should probably learn some additional customer service skills, additional manners and they could both stand to brush up on proper business etiquette, and their skills with all of that, as well. Placed order on-line. This was our first time trying Anthony's. I was impressed with the ease of the on-line process. There was no indication how long it would take to be ready, so I decided to leave right away after ordering. I only live about 10 minutes away and my order was ready and bagged, waiting to go. I ordered a drink as well which they packed into the bag with the hot subs. I would suggest they don't do that. Charge for the beverage but let the person take the drink before they leave so it can stay cold. The subs were good: chicken finger and a chicken kabob. Plentiful meat. Sub rolls were a tad dry/stale. I did appreciate that they gave the dressing in a to-go cup so that the sub roll did not get all mushy - though it might have helped my stale roll tonight. They also could be more generous with the feta. My biggest "beef"? The prices on-line are not what I was charged. If you are going to offer on-line ordering, you have to be vigilant about updating your pricing. I'm annoyed that I did not check the bill before I handed over my debit card. I had a $$ off coupon and the unforeseen price increases on the subs pretty much ate up my discount. Overall? I may go back to try the roast beef. I have heard that the calzones are very good. I would not bother ordering a sub again for fear of a stale roll and IF I place an on-line order, I will be certain to ask to see the check before I pay for anything. read more

A small beef should not have a half cow's worth of meat on it. Maybe it is crazy to complain about getting too much but unwrapped my sandwich and felt kind of ill by the amount of meat on it. A waste as I had to take half off in order to eat it. (Maybe this is a reason to go there for some) The fries are food and I have also tried the chicken kabob which is better than average. Even though there is just 6 reviews unfiltered, I think the rating is just about right. I got a slice of pizza yesterday, along with roast beef and buffalo wings. Let me break it down item by item. The Pizza - a little greasy, but good. The inner crust is soft and the outer crust is cruncy, always a nice combination. The cheese is very good. The Roast Beef - thinly shaven, tasty, toasted on a sesame seed bun. I got it with mayo and american cheese as I usually do. The mayo was good and the cheese was very good, just like the cheese on the pizza. At least they are consistent. The roast beef comes in a small, regular, and large and each is fairly priced compared to other quality beef competitors. It's not the best or one of the best I have ever had. Their roast beef is not top 10 for the region, but I would say they are definately top 20 for Boston and the North Shore, based on my experience. The Buffalo Wings - ah the buffalo wings...hmmm....what a major disappointment. They were not boneless. They give you six quality wings, but they were way overpriced at 7.74. More than a buck a wing is not worth it. They do not give you much buffalo sauce or hot sauce, and the sauce was not that flavorful. It gave me that good burning feeling on my lips, but it did not give me that good burning sensation that is full of flavor on my tongue. At least the blue cheese was good and plenty of it.
