Restaurant looks dirty meat was old and overall not good , very nice people but the food was not good it tasted old

BOMB DOT COM! I had the pescado a lo macho. The sauce was SO amazing. Savory, spicy & crack like. Seafood galore w/breaded fish.. Mmmmmm. The side of rice was really yummy too. Cooked to perfection & seasoned well. Friend had the pesto pasta w/steak. I tried the pasta & it was amazing as well. Tried the piccarones for the first time for dessert. It reminded me of funnel cake. Would've been 10x better with vanilla ice cream. Minus half a star for not having bread & minus another half for probably the worst aji sauce I've ever had :(. It was super watery & was not spicy. It didn't even taste like aji sauce. It tasted like some kinda mustard? But I didn't mind THAT much, cuz my entree was that good. Everyone here talks about the rude owner. I didn't have a problem with him, he was actually quite nice to us. Def coming back! read more

This place was kind of hole-in-the-street-ish. I drove right by it on the first time. It seemed authentic just from looking at the neighborhood it was in, but let's not judge restaurants by their cover. Gotta go inside and try it! The restaurant owners were friendly and the atmosphere was very casual. Maybe my friend and I look Peruvian, or maybe the owner just likes to speak Spanish to all their customers, but I found it very inviting and welcoming. I grew up in Los Angeles, so understanding Spanish isn't a problem. The food was super-fresh, thumbs up. I liked the bistec a lo pobre which is simply thin steak, 2 fried eggs over rice. Yum! It's not something that would blow someone like Colicchio's mind. Instead, it's something reminiscent of good home-cooking. I liked it. With this classic dish, don't expect something insanely crazy, steak and eggs over rice is just what I expected, and it filled my tummy. Add a touch of the green sauce, and it's delicious. The plantains also balance it out nicely. Tried their fried calamari which tastes good paired with the red onion. The crispiness of the calamari was perfect. And instead of their famous lomo saltado, we opted for the pollo saltado which was fairly good. I haven't found any Peruvian place to mess up this dish yet, so far so good. read more

This has been the worst restaurant ever. Since we saw the outside seating we hesitated in coming in, dirty old ugly looking chairs but .... Hey! Let's support small business, maybe the food is good, right? wrong!!! wrong, wrong. The place is soo outdated (another red flag ignored) Everything is disposable, they use those cheap .99 plates. The menu had the prices corrected with dirty beige tape. My son ordered parrillada, parrillada? literally JUST a thin piece of beef with 2 potatoes, 2, that was it, that's not parrillada, not even carne asada, no salad, no beans, just 2 potatoes. My husband had something like honeycomb which tasted terrible and was super greasy, and the same kind of frozen potatoes my son had (2). I was starving but nothing looked appealing and just by looking at their food I just wanted to rush out. They just ate something and we left somewhere else to have a good meal. They use their special Spices like they're not afraid, I've been eating Peruvian food here in Norwalk for a while trying from expensive to very affordable, & they are definitely a stand out! This place was one of my favorite. I had been going to this joint for quite some time, before they move to Norwalk. The food is awesome specially the anticuchos and the rachi. It's been over a 2-3 years that I have not been here because of Mario. We were regulars, shit more than that, we were dead lock easy money. Mario is the grouchiest person ever. He has no customer service skills. His home problems are not my problems. When you own a restaurant you treat your customer right. All my people that were introduced to this restaurant have not gone back because this douche bag ran them away. I even told my peeps don't go back he not the same anymore. They did not believe me and they got the same treatment. To all the people that want to eat Peruvian food go elsewhere before coming here. If this is your last resort don't say nobody warn u. Better yet, take some ear plugs and never mind that grouchy owner. I cant give less than one star because the food is great. read more

I am half Peruvian and have big Peruvian family feasts on a regular basis. So I am a bit picky when it comes to authentic Peruvian food. This place hit the spot. The owners are Peruvian and know what they are doing. I ordered the anticuchos and tallarin verde with beef. The anticuchos were better than what my family makes (that was hard to admit). They were cooked perfectly and the marinade was so delicious, I want every meat I eat to be marinaded in the same sauce. The tallarin verde was also very tasty and it tasted freshly made. The spinach sauce was a little more watery than I'm used to, but it did not negatively affect the flavor. The aji de huacatay (green hot sauce) was very delicious. It wasn't too spicy, maybe a 6 on a scale of 1-10. I prefer much spicier, but I suppose it's made a little mild to appeal to a wider crowd. For dessert, I recommend the lucuma ice cream. It almost tastes like a thai iced tea in ice cream form (not exactly, but just to give you an idea). Overall, this place was quaint and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed. The decor has a huge mural of Peruvian people eating and there is a beautiful LARGE framed picture of Macchu Pichu. I will return. read more

I was pretty excited to eat in this place given the overall great Yelp reviews. However, I went there and the first thing I noticed was that the place could be a lot cleaner. Then customer service was poor and did not feel comfortable eating there.The owner was a bit rude. He did not offer us chips or anything while we waited for our food. He never checked on us... Also, when asked for natural water, he gave us bottled water (!?). To top it off, I ate my food and a few minutes later, I had stomachache for a few hours-horrible. My partner felt the same way as well. My conclusion: Not coming back. Not recommending it. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Giving 1 star based on service. I'm Peruvian and was craving some ceviche and Lomo Saltado. It was about 8:30pm when I started yelping and found that most places closed at 9:00pm. So I was so happy to find this place Bc supposedly it opened till 10:00pm. Drove all the way from Griffith Park, pulled into this hole in the wall restaurant... which I didn't mind so much... It was about 9:10 and the door was locked. I could see the employees and people eating in there so I knocked on the door. No one even acknowledged me. I called and they said, "sorry, we're closed" I said, "but your hours say you are open until 10pm." The guy responds, "no, we closed already." It made me so mad! I had to settle for chipotle! We 've been coming here for years and i gotta say it has never dissapointed me , this is probably the only peruvian restaurant who actually has real anticuchos which thats what i usually eat with my family along with combinado pancita y rachi which is also very authentic with their rocoto sauce super delicious with all that for sure i broke my diet lol their chicha morada which they also make its not from a bottle , im peruavian so im super picky about my food and drinks , service was amazing , tonight the person who took care of us was the owner's son and he was making sure that we were happy and we were not missing absolutely nothing , the owners brother was very caring suggesting what he could cook for my grandma which was fried fish with rice and salad , my grandma ate everything , i highly recommend this place thanks for your hard work guys ! :) we will be back soon :) read more

Small restaurant, with lots of parking in the back. It used to be a stand alone restaurant but there's recent construction next to it, so slow down - almost easy to pass. Best thing here I got here was Ceviche - you can get Pescado (fish) (it happened to be Halibut on the day I got it. Sounds like it may change depending what's available in market), also Camaron (shrimp) or Mixto (both plus other seafood). It's prepared fresh, and they will ask if you want it spicy or not. I got mine as take-out and they had me sample it before leaving. Cold and Delish! Lomo Saltado, served with rice, tomatoes, fried potatoes, was a bit skimpy on the steak. But the steak was well seasoned, tender and juicy. Good leftovers for breakfast the following day, topped with a fried egg. Grilled Beef Hearts comes three skewers to an order. I do like that almost metallic/ briny/ salty taste to it. It might be an acquired taste, but I almost never see beef hearts served anywhere. Also served with potato halves - but these potatoes taste so good and are not mealy or bland. Remember to ask for the green sauce - it's spicy and goes well with the meats! read more

Just found this and figured let's try it. My wife and I found it to be very small and quaint. We were greeted very warmly by the owners son Mario and right away said to sit anywhere we would like. Since we had out newborn son with us so we just put him into a seat and quickly started looking at the menu. We were pleased to see a lot of the wonderful dishes that we've had at another restaurant, and we even more pleased to see the great prices. Right away we ordered the Lomo Saltado with steak and two inca colas. It was moderately priced and amazing food. The owner and his son were chatting up a storm with us and were offering us stuff on the house. I would definitely come here again and again. 5 stars! read more

I have to say that this restaurant is by far the best Peruvian restaurant I have tried. My boyfriend is in love with one particular dish called the Lomo Saltado. He cant get enough of it. My favorite is the Tallarin Verde. We like to eat out alot and have tried other Peruvian places but nothing compares to this gem! On the intersection of Pioneer and Rosecrans, it's easy to miss. Worst place to eat Peruvian food, the saltado de mariscos was barely eatible, over seasoned, the lomo saltado was so so, we ordered yucca but never got taste it since they ran out but forgot to tell us. The waitress blamed the owner, the owner blamed the waitress....terrible service for such a small place, very pushy on selling certain items even after being told no thank you repeatedly. No efforts to check on the table if everything was ok, we asked for water and never got it, barely got forks but had to ask for them. I was craving some lomo saltado so I decided to give this spot a try. Keep in mind, Ive only tried peruvian food once, but it was the 1st for my family. When we first got there, I noticed the restaurant was crowded (good sign I thought to myself)..boy was I wrong! I couldnt tell who was the server and then noticed that there was one guy running up and down the restaurant carrying the food. After 20 minutes past, I flagged him down as he was passing me by and asked if I could get some service. After another 10 minutes, he came over and took our order. We ordered the anticuchos, lomo saltado, and the tallarin saltado. To drink: they only had Kola Inca and Sprite!!! Really?! yes. Okay after another 10 minutes, he comes over with the cans of soda. Really? 10 minutes to bring our drinks? My husband and kids were already complaining!!! So that makes about 40 minutes in....we waited for another 25 minutes (debating if we should leave or stay)....I decided to stay (the time it would take to go to another place and order food, Im sure our food would be here)...yes...the food finally came!!!!! The anticuchos were good...my daughter (4 years old) liked them (Praised God!!)..El tallarin saltado was okay. Nothing that blew my mind. My lomo saltado was good. Theyre Aji was delicious I might add.... I dont know if it was just that day, but it was the worst service ever!!!! Never once did the server come by to ask if we were doing okay or if we needed anything. I had to flag him down all the time as he ran across the place.
