Still bad service. Hasn't change that still (I feel stupid for keep coming here! It's the only Peruvian restaurant near my job), I know there is only one person I get it! But at least i would love to get the menu please? I just came here to get a order of papa a la huancaina and a side of rice. But I'm leaving(still standing here as I type this). The owner/chef/waiter mr. Mario (that's his name) did eye contact with me and didn't say anything. COMPLETELY IGNORED!!! 10 min standing there and nothing. I had never tried Peruvian food prior to coming here. I met a very cute Peruvian woman yesterday who told me, "nothing out here is quite like home... Except this one place down Pioneer". She directed me here and told me to try the Lomos Saltado and described it as "carne asada strips over French fries with sauteed onions and veggies". More than enough to pique my interest. Oh course I went to try it out and walked into a hole-in-the-wall, ma and pop looking little spot. A few elder gentleman greeted my friends and I with open arms and hearts. I immediately felt welcomed and they brought out our food in a very timely manner. I can't say enough about how delicious it was! I got their cards and gave them out to a bunch of friends insisting that they go there and try the food. I now wish to insist the same to you, fellow yelper. We love Peruvian food we heard of this restaurant and decided we had too give it a try. This place is known for their "articuchos" which are made of heart, we dont dig heart so we had decided before hand to skip on that particular dish. We ordered the Lomo Saltado and Tallarin with beef. Unfortunately the food we ordered tasted of articuchos anyway. Not sure if they cooked everything in the same pot or with the same oil or what but the food had an overwhelming taste of heart and/or liver. We couldn't finish our food because of the terrible taste. We paid, walked out and concluded we would not return..... The service was also not great, there was one cook and one waitress who took care of all the tables and assisted in the kitchen. Overall I would not recommend this establishment. read more

The restaurant came highly recommended, and I just happened to be in the area so i decided to give it a try.I had very high expectations based on the comments I had received. Unfortunately, they were not quite met. First of all, there was only one person working the restaurant and he seemed a little busy, and didn't have great customer service skills, so it took a while to get our order. I got the Anticuchos, which were decent, but I expected to get Peruvian corn accompanying it, but no such luck, it was the sweet tiny type of corn. There was no chicha, because they were preparing a new batch. The spicy sauce was good, though. Anyway, I don't think I will be returning to the restaurant, even if I am in the area. read more

I love love love this place!! Will definitely be sure to stop by here every time I make a trip to California. If you're looking for authentic Peruvian food, then you got to check this place out! My boyfriend is Peruvian and he grew up eating his grandma's Peruvian food so he is very picky and particular when it comes to Peruvian food but he hands down love this place so that says a lot! Since Ceviche is my favorite type of Spanish food, we order the Mixed Seafood Ceviche and I was not disappointed! Flavors was perfect to my taste buds, it had a good mix of spiciness from the Peruvian chilies and sourness from the limes. I asked the Chef to make it extra spicy since I love spicy food and he actually had me taste it first to make sure that the flavors were to my liking! I thought that was really awesome of him :) The seafood was cooked to perfection and not overcooked and the yam and corn that was served with the Ceviche just complimented the overall dish. Just writing about it is making my mouth water, oh how I wish they have a restaurant here in Hawaii!!! The boyfriend ordered the Lomo Saltado and the Anticuchos de Corazon. He loved both of these dishes as well. The beef heart was prepared very well and was not tough which makes the dish very enjoyable. I was hesitant to try it at first when he told me that Anticuchos de Corazon is pretty much skewered beef hearts but I kept an open mind and gave it a try and I wasn't disappointed! The best way to explain Lomo Saltado is beef stir fry and Anticucheria Peruana's version was not bad, very flavorful but since bf's grandma always makes me this to eat often, it's going to be hard to beat her Lomo Saltado which still is ranked as my favorite :)) We also ordered the Chicha Morada to drink which is made with Peruvian purple corn however I felt that they added way too much lime.. The drink would've been more refreshing if it wasn't overpowered with too much lime. This little family run restaurant is operated by a older couple. Wife runs the front and husband does all the cooking. At first, wife seems very pushy and wanted us to order right away which was crazy because right when we got seated and just opened the menu she already expected us to know what we wanted to order and kept repeatedly saying "what you want...what you want." When asked what is popular, she states, "everything good, so what you want? I was turned off at first but the bf kept his patience. Her husband loves to talk and interact with the customers and being that my bf spoke to them in Spanish, husband starts telling us his stories of where he travels, etc. When he realized we were from Hawaii he got even more excited since he just visited Hawaii a few months ago. Wife starts to soften down when she saw how comfortable her husband was communicating with us and she starts treating us differently and being more patient. Disappointing. Tried them on a Saturday evening a few weeks ago. The place was empty except for the workers who were sitting down watching TV and eating. We ordered the picante de mariscos and saltado de mariscos. The picante tasted nothing like i had before and was not very good. The sauce just had an off flavor. the Saltado dish was just as bad. The french fries were under cooked and mushy. This was a drive for us so its unlikely we would ever return when there are better options closer to home. read more

This establishment is a hole in the wall driving on Pioneer. The inside is allright, nothing fancy at all. The food though is really tasty. I had the lomo saltado and my husband had the tallarines. We went there for hubby's birthday May 19Th! Not only was the food amazing, but the people made me feel like I was sitting in one of the finest restaurants in Peru. Took me a while to get to this post, but I had to share how amazing this place was. Now the ambiance was a little overdone, and it may seem like its a small restaurant, but it has more room towards the back. The people came out to ask how we liked our food, if everything was okay, and if we wanted anything else. Reminded my of my aunts and my mother in laws cooking. Yum! I had never tried peruvian food went here just because I like trying different places. As I walked in I was surprised to be treated by the owner Mario who was super polite being this a new experience I asked what would he recommend. He advised the lomo salteado or the Gallatin Verde and he even let me try a bit of the drink Chicha Morada. Well let me tell you yes it does take a bit of a wait for the food to be prepared but once you try how delicious and fresh the food is, you will realize it was well worth it. My co-workers and I came here after work to celebrate someone's birthday. I was excited about ordering lomo saltado, but we were informed that they were out of rice, so we could not order any dishes that contained rice! BOOO. As a result, I ordered the steak and potatoes. Other dishes ordered included the honeycomb w/ potatoes, some seafood dish, and a steak w/ pesto (bright green) pasta. My steak was a bit tough and not very flavorful; the green pasta was pretty good; the honeycomb (similar to tripe) was very tender; the seafood was a bit on the salty side. One of my co-workers ordered a side of corn on the cob, which had huge kernels! I had a taste and it was pretty dense and a bit chewy. It reminded me slightly of Korean corn. Service was good and the staff was very nice, but I have definitely had better Peruvian food. The dishes aren't very expensive, ranging from about $8 on up. I think my steak dish was about $8.95. I would like to come back another time to try their lomo saltado, but I'm worried they'll still be out of rice! They also close early - around 7:30 or 8 p.m.! read more

This place is super goooood! I put it right next to Aji Limon and my all time favorite... Pollo Inka. Don't let the old looking decor and building fool you. Yes it needs some TLC and lots of updating in terms of how it looks but the food is great. The owners/servers are awesome. They are open till late, are super friendly, and always strike up a conversation. My friend brought us here for a bday and we have met their for our girls dinners and it's always a great time. I personally love the ceviche and saltado de mariscos. I tend to stick to the same thing every single time I go to a peruvian place. I love their food. This place is delicious, I have been going to this restaurant my whole life and not once have I been let down, service may slow down at times but the wait is worth it, the food they serve here is mouth watering, and with the most popular plate anticuchos (cow heart, which taste better than it sounds) is the best. With a nice can of Inka cola, the golden soda, the taste of these two combined is marvelous. For dessert some very delicious and unique aloes my two favorite ice cream de lucuma or picarrones a peruvien Golden donuts smothered in syrup and if not ask for the alfajores a cookie filled with Manjar blanco Similar to cajeta. I am also Peruvian and they really bring the Peruvian culture and taste to America, the owner Mario has a little temper but his jokes and laugh and the great food he cooks it completely worth it I recommend this place to anyone *thumbs up* read more

One day I came with my wife and the old lady that seems to be the owner treated us very roughly, bordering on pushy. this place killed my interest in Peruan food. Only then I did understand why this place seemed empty. My personal recommendation: if you see a place that is not very popular or empty, chances are is the food or the bad service. read more

Danessi, name of the: -cook -owner -dishwasher -cashier -server and all theduties you can name and think of in a restaurant, does cook good, However he has a very limited menu since and he is loud and does not really provide a good service after all. Plus he is not allowed to sell beer but still he might sell you some CRISTAL if you ask him. Other than that I think if you are going for flavor and taste this is good when being in Norwalk. I could recommend his anticuchos, along with seafood because his arroz con mariscos, jalea, chicharron de calamar, parihuela and choros a la chalaca are something not to try once but at least twice. He should improve his fish quality too. That's why I didn't include ceviches under seafood. I remember that once he gave a ceviche with fish that was basically frozen. However he has all those cons I still can say this is the best plac I had chicharron de calamares in LA area. read more

I first had lomo saltado, chaufa, and the salsa verde here over ten years ago. After eating chef Mario's food and talking with him, we decided to plan a trip to Peru, based on the great food, beautiful pictures of Peru , and friendly people at this restaurant. You have to go into this restaurant expecting a cultural experience and not expecting American-style speed. Mario is very respectful when treated with respect. The beef is so tender, the mix of salty and spicy flavors is unbelievable. His food was even better than many places in Peru. Having a meal in Peru takes time. Be patient and enjoy the experience, the fabulous food, and the people. I wish I lived closer to be able to go here more often, but it's a great stop off of the 5 or 605 freeway to break up a road trip. read more

I was disappointed...haven't been back there since even though my boyfriend urges me to try again I dunno... This is the absolute WORST place I've ever been to with the WORST customer service. We called to make a phone order for pickup of 2 saltado de camarones. From the get go, the man told my husband it would be 30 minutes, my husband repeated that to confirm and the older man on the phone rudely responded "Que, lo quiere crudo?!" (Do you want it raw?!). We tried to take that lightly but then my husband picks up the order and when he got home we realized the shrimp was not peeled or even cleaned! Still had legs on it! There was no fries or tomatoe or anything! They literally gave us just onion and shrimp! Which is NOT a saltado if you know the dish. I called back to complain and ask for a partial refund at the LEAST and the man was extremely rude to me telling me the fries were there and I needed to go back to pick them up trying to justify the dish he prepared. Absolutely RIDICULOUS. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT GOOD QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE! I would not recommend this place to anyone and will never be back again! read more
