My experience at this restaurant was so awful, I have waited for them to be on Yelp so I could share my experience. Back when the restaurant first opened, my partner and I walked in on a Saturday afternoon at 4:30 and figured we would try it out. We walked into a beautifully decorated restaurant with no fewer than 7 front of house staff buzzing around and two tables totaling 4 diners. We asked for a table for two and were told they may not be able to accomodate us. UMMMMM there is no one in the restaurant and it's 4:30, so that seemed odd to me. After an excessive wait while the polite, yet inexperienced hostess waited for the manager to "ok" us to sit down, we were seated. Let me explain why this is wrong, wait I don't have to. If you read this far you know that there was NO ONE IN THE RESTAURANT and it was so early that NO ONE WAS WAITING TO EAT DINNER, so the shear fact that we had to be "ok'd" is ridiculous. As we sit and wait for our server, we are completely forgotten. Again at least 7 people to wait on us and no one is around. 15 minutes into our experience and a waitress comes over and apologizes for the mix up and takes our order. We are served basically raw bread, as in dough and wait 35 minutes for our entrees. I expected the food would make up for the wait, I was wrong. To add context to those of you who aren't from this area of Massachusetts, you can find no fewer than 20 Italian restaurants in the East Boston, Winthrop, Revere area and the food is miles better then what we were fed. The pasta was undercooked, the sauce tart, and for a meal that took 35 minutes COLD. The waitress was polite, professional, and obviously sensed our frustration so she offered to buy us desert. My response was simply "no thank you." Reason being, I would rather pay for something that tastes good somewhere else than eat something awful from this restaurant. I tipped the waitress 25%, because she was wonderful and shouldn't have to suffer for this awful establishment. Since my experience was so bad, i assumed others would have similar experiences and would take it out on her and tip her poorly and to us she was the best part of the experience. It's been a couple of months and everyone I have spoken to about this place has echoed my comments saying that they will never return. Maybe the management didn't think that our business mattered, but it does. My partner and I eat out most nights of the week and have the means to have nice, sit down meals regularly. Being that this restaurant is in a small town, you would think they would want positive experiences being shared to increase business, that doesn't seem the case, since no one in my network of family and friends will ever walk in there after their first meal. I am not a whiner or a complainer but this was my worst dining experience all year and i wouldn't want anyone else to pay money for what in my opinion, is garbage Italian. PS 100% Italian here, and any of my aunts or mother could make these dishes in half the time and actually taste good. read more

I expected better. To start with our reservation for 7:00 (although confirmed by email) was in their system for 7:30. We didn't get seated until 7:45 and the table was squished in a way that we couldn't sit comfortably. (The same thing happened for another party that had reservations just before us). The service was mediocre. Only open for a few weeks, I can see where they are still working out kinks. But, after our first round of drinks our glasses sat empty for half an hour while we watched the waitstaff mingle by the door. The atmosphere was just okay. The room was packed and that made it very loud. The tables had been pulled around and reorganized to fit us and the other party with lost reservations. Maybe on a more organized night the room would have been comfortable. The food was really good. The apps (mussels, calamari and antipasto platter) were delicious. All the entrees were huge portions and all were big hits with our party. As good as the food was, I don't see going back. It is really sad when you call and the Head Server is RUDE and overwhelmed and this is not the 1st time Lisa has done this to our family or others. She gets mad she throws ice and slams dishes . Wanted to order a Gift Card to pick up and she could not deal with that either the last one at Christmas that was ordered they lost. We are done with her rude behavior and service . Living in Winthrop, I've been waiting for a great restaurant with a bar... When I found out Antique Table was coming I was eager to try it out. Here's the deal, I've been to the restaurant 3 times now. The food is fantastic! Oh god it's so good, and the bread with the basil parmesan olive oil?! Delicious! I want to give this place 5 stars but I just can't. The major issue is this: THE HOSTESS IS HORRIBLE! oh god. I can't even. She's just so bad. Come to find out she is the managers fiancé (it all makes sense now) but seriously guys, don't mix business with pleasure, I'm sure your fiancé is a great girl but she's a terrible hostess and completely overwhelmed. Let her go! Please. Your restaurant needs someone more experienced. The restaurant looks decrepit; I get the antique thing, but the place just looks like it's closed. The atmosphere inside is sinister; there was no one when we came in for lunch at 1PM on a Saturday. As you enter there's a strong, musty smell; it's a bit hard to breathe at first. The stain-glass windows leave very little light through. It looks like they were going to add a dropped ceiling, but never did; everything hangs awkwardly from the original ceiling. The food was ok; nothing very fancy, but nothing that would make you sick. The salads are overpriced and tiny. The dressing is disappointing, but you can ask them to leave it out. The gnocchi were overcooked. The tomato sauce was ok, but a bit pasty. read more

We love coming here and this is my second review. The staff is so lovely, warm and welcoming plus they are very professional and provide excellent service. The food is homemade, fresh and delicious -- all served in a lovely atmosphere. This is Boston-quality food and service, all provided in the small town of Winthrop. Loved this place. Its a hidden gem and a must try. The atmosphere is an intimate one and the service is excellent. This a great spot for date or to enjoy dinner amongst a small group of people. We both started with a house salad. Perfect portion, fresh, crisp and delicious. I ordered the DiMare with Risotto and my boyfriend ordered the Lobster Ravioli we were both pleased with our meals and intend to return. We do usually order desert but we were pretty full and opted out this time. Will return. Great experience. read more

I was with the party of 3 from Joanne D's review. I was there before our reservations, Mr Sota would not let me sit at our table that was reserved for us. Told me to sit at bar and wait for everyone else. Around 5:35 he said he would give us 5 more minutes than he would have to give up our table but we could have the 3 seats at the bar. The place was empty except for 3 tables. 5 minutes later the bartender asked about the seats at the bar because 2 people just walked in and Mr Sota told the bartender to let them have them. Just then my friends walked in and he said that he couldn't sit us that he was booked for the night. Really!! Each table was booked for a two hour span. So we missed 15 minutes, what's the big deal Mr Soto!!! I will never step foot in that restraurant again. Instead of welcoming us into his restraurant he walked us out. We have eaten here in the past and the food has always been excellent. Recently we ordered a good amount of food for Christmas Eve through the catering service and it exceeded our expectations in every way; quality, portions & price. As always the food was great; meatballs with ricotta amazing, antipasto huge & great variety, margarita pizza tasted fabulous both hot & cold, fettuccine pleased even my most pickiest eater, chicken parm & marsala, fruiti de mari (loaded with seafood), all of it was a crowd pleaser. Even the leftovers were just as good. Highly recommend. Not normally a reviewer, but they were outstanding so creds & big thanks for making our holiday stress free & delicious. This was a busy Monday night because their food is good and most of the other restaurants around are closed on Monday. As mentioned in the other reviews, most items are made from scratch and the wine list is great but a little on the expensive side. They had a full bar which was attractive to our party of four. The one thing that has not been mentioned in any of the reviews I see listed for this establishment is it is VERY Noisy! Now I come from an Italian family where yelling is normal talk, but this place was to the point that you could not have a normal dinner conversation! There was one table of five that was the major contributor to this noise factor. This made everyone else who wanted to have a dinner conversation increase their volume in order to be heard. The cement type walls of the inside of the restaurant and it's lack of window dressing fabric allowed the sound of loud conversation to bounce around so much you could hear it in the rest rooms. So if you like good Italian food at a fair price and don't mind yelling at your dinner partners to be heard, I would give this place a try! read more

I'm actually creating a Yelp account for the first time specifically to rave about my first visit to Antique Table in Winthrop. Yes, I witnessed confusion regarding some orders and frustration from guests waiting to be seated, etc., but considering it has only been open for three weeks, it was understandable and forgivable especially given how shockingly friendly and sincere the manager and staff were (huge shout out to Oscar and Steven who were both incredibly welcoming and attentive despite the frenzy). And then came the FOOD! Not a single weak link; from the incredible meatballs with fresh ricotta, to a portobello, red pepper and mozzarella app special, to the main dishes of veal parm (most tender I've ever had) and stellar bolognese with perfectly cooked house-made pappardelle. Desserts, too, were excellent, especially the chocolate mousse cake. Great vibe and lots of energy rounded out the experience. So when I'm craving pure, honest Italian food, I'll be skipping the North End from now on and heading to Winthrop to my new favorite place! Will move this to 5 stars once the temporary "kinks" get worked out. Seeing how hard-working and caring the staff is, it shouldn't take long! read more

I will say the food is very good, but the stuffs are not as friendly as we heard. I understand it is a local restaurant. And of course they have their favorite guest. But as a visitor, I will not choose to use " very friendly" to describe their service. I asked for a hot water for my mother, because her doctor told us she not suppose to drink anything cold. But they give us some wine with ice without asking which I have to ask them to take the ice away. They come frequently to ask us if we are still working on our food... I can understand that if they have lots of customers, but in fact we are the only three table in the room.... read more

great meal at Antique Table this week. my folks were visiting from out of town and they prefer italian food, so i decided to give this place a try. once again, yelp has it right, nice space with a comfortable atmosphere, attentive service and of course, great food! the calmari appetizer was light and crunchy, we loved the basil infused bread dip, my chicken fettuccine carbonara was delicious with tender chicken and perfectly cooked pasta, my boyfriend made short work of the lobster ravioli, my mother's chicken parmesan was tender and lightly fried, and my father's off menu order of baked gnocchi and meatball was just what he wanted. other than my boyfriend we all had left overs to take home. by the time we left at about 6:30 or so the pace had picked up and quite a few tables were full, so if you want to go after 6, a reservation would be helpful. we can't seem to find a good pizza place in this area and antique table does pizza so we will be back to try their carry out next! read more

This hidden gem is worth the trip outside of Boston. Upon entering the decor lighting and music give a cozy feel. The warm focaccia bread and oil is a great start to the meal and they have a great salad dressing if youre in the mood for a house salad. Id highly reccomend any of their homemade pastas. Two of my favorite dishes are the bolognese and chicken francese. This is some true italian cooking. read more

Just ordered take out from this place, it being the first time I have ever eaten from them, and I even was a last minute take out order.. I must say BY FAR the BEST CHICKEN PARMIGIANA I have had in a LONG time. I have not tasted that quality of chicken, first of all, from any restaurant in a LONG time, nor have I had amazing sauce to go right along with it! The fettuccine for my pasta choice that it was accompanied with was phenomenal. I grew up in Revere and have been to all restaurants in the area from Winthrop to East Boston to Revere, Malden, Everett, etc, and I must say I am IMPRESSED! I don't even know where to start when critiquing this place. From the beautifully vintage atmosphere to the decadent dishes offered on their menu, Antique Table Trattoria is AMAZING all around! I step in and am welcomed cordially by the staff. I ordered chicken parmigiana, but a Caesar salad and bread w/ dipping oil as an appetizer. The dressing was homemade, as was the dipping oil. When the main course came, a member of my family was approached by a waitress who grated the cheese right off the block for him. NOT something you'd get at, say, J Kendall's or Rossetti's (other Winthrop restaraunts). The portions could feed an army; VERY filling to say the least. The dessert (tiramisu) was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Topped with real cocoa powder and embellished with syrup, it looked too good to eat. When I reached for my spoon, I couldn't believe how light it was. BEST I HAVE EVER HAD!! Food was pretty good. Service was very friendly but very, very slow. Had to wait 20 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation. Food came about 35 minutes after we sat. We also had to flag down a waiter to ask for more drinks after a ~15 min wait (though he was very nice!) Very cramped, but you should know that going in. Seems like the type of place that will be a lot better in another 6-9 months. Good for a low-key dinner on an off-night, doesn't seem like a place well equipped to handle busy times. I've had many good meals here, but no more. I called for a reservation but they didn't have a time available that I wanted. No big deal... I was one in a party of 4, and the restaurant is pretty close to my house so i figured I would call in a take out order, bring it back to my house and enjoy a good meal... When i called to place my order, the line was busy. I tried calling continuously for 30 minutes and could never get through.. The only 2 explanations I could think of was a downed phone line or they took the phone off the hook!! Since I spoke to them not an hour before, I am guessing the latter..That is a real crappy way to run a business. I'm in retail and would never resort to this no matter how busy I am. To me is enough reason to say I will never give them my business again. read more

Antique Table is definitely worth the visit. Oscar greeted us, took us straight to a table, and introduced us to Lisa our server. We had before dinner drinks, fresh bread with olive oil/cheese/pesto served complimentary, and had several dishes explained to us. I got the chicken marsela. Mushrooms, tender chicken filets, and the sauce over fresh made linguine noodles, had me wanting to lick the plate. Ample servings, I took home half. We ordered a tiramasu, with a spoon apiece for the 4 of us. It was nice, not soggy like I've had before. Lisa was pleasant, attentive but not hovering, and I felt a job well done. Oscar was the perfect host, touching tables, and greeting customers as they came in. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, the ceilings are high, and it does get loud in there, but I would return again as soon as I can. Yummy!! read more

Was walking the beach and ended up here for lunch. The decor is classic Italian kitsch but the space is light, clean and open. 1950's music emphasizes the old-time vibe. I ordered a light meal of chicken soup with vegetables and a side of oven roasted potatoes. The meal kicked off nicely with a fresh, yummy panini bread with veggies baked in, and a well-spiced dipping oil. This was an excellent freebie, but unfortunately the meal went downhill from there. The made-to-order soup looked good, but was very bland, which I rarely say about chicken soup. Good-sized chunks of chicken were a little fatty and some were rubbery. A good chef should rock a great soup. Somehow the potatoes were botched too; I had to send them back, not cooked through. The service was friendly and casual. Overall very disappointing given the strong reviews. Incidentally their take out shop down the street was more expensive for lunch than the sit down restaurant! read more

My wife and I got back to Logan Airport (BOS) after a Fourth of July trip to Vermont and were going to leave early the next morning to return to Seattle. We had eaten in downtown Boston earlier in our trip and wanted to find a small local restaurant just to catch a meal. Based on recommendations from other travelers, we decided to try the Antique Table which was close to our hotel just north of the airport. We had done a lot of high-end eating all week and this restaurant seemed pretty casual; they don't take reservations. The restaurant was easy to find and it didn't' appear to be much from the outside, but there was a free parking in a lot just across the street (bonus, compared to downtown). The restaurant was busy and crowded. There was a "ten minute" wait for a table which was actually less than five minutes. That allowed us time to get some drinks from the bar. The place was really funky in a good way and was filled with locals who were very friendly and lively. There was a lot of good energy in the room. The service was great and they certainly didn't rush you. We shared a salad that was really good and my wife had an eggplant lasagna that she said was the best she has ever had. (We are in our late 60"s and have eaten at a lot of Italian restaurants.) I had the "special" which was a five hour braised beef shank in a red sauce on Pappardelle noodles. Amazing! They also had an excellent selection of beers and wines. I had a local IPA before dinner and a glass of Montepulciano with dinner. The portions were generous and the seasoned bread and oil was better than most. Unfortunately, we didn't save room for dessert. My wife and I are serious foodies, so when I rate a meal like this as five stars, that is saying something. On our visit to New England, we ate at three very highly rated "farm to table" style restaurants; but this meal was by far the best of our entire trip. We will certainly eat here again on our next trip to Boston. The Antique Table really gives you the experience of a great home-style meal in a local authentic Italian restaurant. I can not say enough good words about this place! We came in for my husbands birthday and my mother in law and our first time there. My husband is born and raised here in Winthrop and me being from the New York area it's been hard to convince me of good restaurants. Good Italian restaurants with staff to match the greatness and this place most certainly did! Oscar our host/waiter was excellent. The whole staff really was wonderful! We were seated promptly. Never once felt rushed. The food was absolutely incredible and it's really refreshing to know I can order my drink not bring it with me. Great place great staff.
