We've been going to "our local place", Antonio's, since it relocated to Connell Highway, and tonight my wife and I agreed to stop. It's so disappointing because we want it to be consistently good, which it definitely isn't, and it has become so expensive. We were invited to friends for supper and picked up three wraps, a small salad and an appetizer - $68.00! The wraps were minuscule, the portobello wrap was swimming is balsamic sauce while the chicken Caesar was dry. The potato chips were soggy. So so went to this place because it was late, and the times on the door said "open till 10pm". I got there at about 8:45pm. The waitress at the bar took my order... as I was asking questions, she informed me they were about to close... I said the door said 10pm and all she said was "ya, well..." Okay, fine... I started to order a salad and asked about the pizza. She said, well, they are turning off the ovens, let me see.. she departed to talk to someone, and returned and said, we have some slices we can reheat... I said, so no to the appetizers also? She said "no", so I said, I'll just take the salad. I guess she went in back, and they said they would make an appetizer. Okay, I said, I'll have the meatballs. The salad came, it was very average. The meatballs came, and they were 3, with some pizza dough like "bread" products. The meatballs takes good, seemed homemade. The only problem was, there were supposed to be 4, and it came with only 3. I respectfully inquired and asked" can I ask you a question, were the meatballs supposed to be 4, or am I mistaken"... she went back and acknowledged the mistake.. they gave me 2 more meatballs, I just took them home because I wasn't hungry any more. I ordered a Coke Zero, but realize these were in cans and they charged you for each one. There were two other customers that came in, one before 9, and they turned them away and said they were closed. The second one came in, and they said they were closed, and he said the same thing, your door says 10pm... These were people who were assigned at the nearby navy base, not a smart move... people talk... I consider the service to be poor. It was like I was inconveniencing them by being a customer.... I won't make that mistake again, nor will I recommend it....no matter how close it is. I felt bad for the sailors, they were respectful and left... they probably weren't able to eat anything... The food seemed good, but there are plenty of good places to eat in a report, I don't need to be treated like an inconvenience. I just have two things to say to this establishment. Treat your customers with respect, and fix your darn door, otherwise, honor your commitment... Ambience was meh, nothing to write home about... read more

I enjoyed my food at Antonio's. I dined in and had pizza by the slice, which wasn't too expensive. The wings were tasty, but beware, their medium wings have a kick to them. I had good and polite service, but the server made quite a few mistakes with our order. I'd still go back for more, though because their pizza was tasty. read more

Am always on the lookout for great vegetarian options in restaurants . Wanted to have a good pizza in RI with different toppings than the standard veggie lovers pizza. Inspite if all the negative reviews I read , thought of giving this place a chance and it was worth it. The portobello mozzarella pizza is really yumm with the pesto , tomato and portobello slices and mozzarella working in its favor. I worked here when it was Mama Leone's Pizza. It's still owned by the family of Johnny Reeves who is the original owner. Johnny was an awesome boss, and a hell of a pizza guy. This place is nothing like it used to be. It looks like nicer since they renovated it, but it was so much better when it was Mama Leone's. I took my niece here for dinner. We got onion rings, I got a large order of chicken wings and she got three slices of pizza. We waited about a half hour to get the onion rings and they were cold when we got them. It wasn't busy at all. They made us another set of onion rings. I got my wings which were fine and my niece got her pizza but the pizza was cold as well. The slices are premade. All they have to do is throw it on the pan and heat it in the oven until it's hot. In my opinion, they need to retrain at least the cook that was on the day we went. Johnny would not let something like that fly. He would be pretty mad. When you pay good money for food and service, you should get good food and good service. That's all I'm going to say. I don't want to badmouth place because I have nothing but love for the Reeves family. It's just disheartening to have more than one problem with a very small order. read more

I have a loyalty to this place, mainly because I've been coming here since I was a kid..formerly Mama Leone's. The food is good, customer service is great. The problem I have is the consistency of the food, mostly delivery. Tonight's example us the Alexandria salad I ordered. I ordered one last night. Perfect. I ordered it again tonight and there was barely a sprinkle of goat cheese. It's not the main ingredient but theres a difference between tonight's and last nights. I didn't take a photo from last night but will post tonight's delivery. I separated it from the greens, which were plenty by the way! Consistency is important. I did a delivery order, they are one of the restaurants that can deliver on Newport NSA. The delivery came around the time they quoted me which was about 45mins. I ordered fish tacos and truffle fries. I really wish they had that as a meal. The food arrived still hot but with all the steam my fries were not crispy, the sauce was that went with the fries was delicious. The fish tacos were decent nothing to write home about though. I think this would have been better if I ordered at the restaurant. I wouldn't mind trying some of their other menu items though. read more

I live in Providence and I love the Antonio's on Thayer Street. I've been working in Newport for a few months and was pleased to find out about this location, right near the Naval Base. I came here for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. My first impression was that this place is spacious and clean. When you walk in, there is a section for restaurant/dining in, and another section for sitting if you're just grabbing a quick slice from the counter. There's also a bar! There were plenty of seating options. Onto the pizza - the options are extremely overwhelming. There's so much to choose from! The only thing I did not like was the lack of signs on the pizza. It made it more difficult to choose as I had to ask the employee about each pizza. I ordered the chicken bacon ranch and some other pizza with avocado and mozzarella! The chicken was nothing great, I was disappointed to see that they used chicken thighs because it was chewy. The avocado pizza I got was good! Each slice was about $4. Compared to other pizza places in the area, Antonio's is great in terms of taste and variety. Overall, I had a pleasant experience and will likely return for lunch. read more

Despite wanting to like a pizza by the slice joint that makes dozens of unique specialty pizzas, I can't bring myself to give Antonio's more than an average grade. Having tried their tortellini pizza, focaccia spinach pizza, picante chicken pizza and cheese pizza, I have yet to experience anything that stands out in my mind as remarkable. This isn't to say that the service isn't great or the portion sizes aren't generous - they are - but the reheated specialty pizza slices don't have the bold tastes that their bold toppings (tortellini?) suggest. I attribute this lack of memorable flavor to the cheese on the pizza: both the layer of cheese and the pizza crust are very thin, forcing the taste of the pizza to rely almost solely on whatever toppings it may have. read more

Called and spoke with Cashier Victoria. I asked if I could use my online only order coupon to purchase for my phone order. I requested this, because the website would not provide me the option of purchasing with "vegan cheese". Victoria stated that she would do this, but I would just have to show the coupon on my phone upon entry. Upon arrival Victoria attempted to type my coupon, and asked if I would wait for the manager. The manager returned and politely explained that he believed me, but that he would not honor my coupon because then, it would be available for me to use online again in the future. I didn't want to stress about it so I paid for my two large, vegetable supreme pizzas with vegan cheese. The order was about $52 and change. I agreed to pay for it for several reasons, but the most important is that Antonio's Pizza by the Slice in Newport, Rhode Island just lost a long term customer. Hopefully, there will be some employee training in the future as to what to promise customers. It's sad that I have to give a bad review to Antonio's when the bad review belongs to Grubhub. I placed a salad order with Antonios tonight. I followed the progress of the order through the Grubhub app. After the 45 minute anticipated delivery, it read that the order was delayed and added an additional 45 minutes. 90 minutes later I received a text from Grubhub that the order was canceled because the restaurant did not have the necessary ingredients. I was infuriated and contacted Antonios for the actual reason. I was told by Antonios that there was some problem with the link from Grubhub to Antonio's, and therefore they could not receive the order. When I looked on the Grubhub website, it once again, put forward the lie that it was the restaurants fault for not having the appropriate ingredient. I thought DoorDash was horrible, but have now come to realization that Grubhub is actually worse. It's amazing that they could make me wait an hour and a half before telling me something they knew immediately, and to lie about the reason, I'm not overly surprised, my suggestion is fine restaurants that do their own delivery and you don't have to play inflated prices and be continuously let down read more

Visit one: I tried the premade slices during lunch hour and ordered a salad. The cashier rang me up, took my payment, and moved on to the next person. I stood there waiting on my receipt and instructions (do I stand here, do I sit down and food comes to me?!?). He then walked away and another cashier came over. I told her I was waiting on my receipt and he just moved on the the next customer. So, she apologized, printed it off for me and answered my questions. The pizza took a few minutes to reheat. It was ok. I waited 20 minutes for the salad and ended up getting a refund. I wouldn't have ordered it if I'd known it would take so long. Second visit: I did not enjoy the pizza at all!!! It was cold, no flavor, and not appealing even on the platter. My friend order a calzone that looked more the dominos cheesy bread. Sucks bc I was really hopeful but the first comment from my friend was "this is cold." I don't recommend this place. It is not the best pizza in Newport. The reviews are misleading. It came out piping hot delicious enough for me to take home for some later. Huge portions. Our server was great she let us know if the specials, what she recommended and as friendly as ever. You take this sheet to the window and tell them which pizza you want, by the slice. Or if you want you can't order off the menu too. I got the Giovanni Pizza, it had avocados and 2 different types of cheese. I also had a meat lovers, that was anything but ordinary. The teriyaki bone in wings were pretty good too. The only thing that was a miss was the kids mac n cheese and the loud owner calling one of the servers a LIAR repeatedly. read more

I wanted to like this place because they do pizza by the slice. However, my entire family could not stop going to the bathroom after eating here on Saturday the 23rd of July, 2022. I have a gluten allergy and the bone in wings are supposed to be gluten free. So they either lied to me, or they gave me food poisoning. Either way, I could not get out of the bathroom the rest of the day. My hubby was also afflicted by the pizza with tortellini on it. Our bathroom door was revolving and it was not pretty. Best Pizza on this island. Unfortunately, this place is a chain. Fortunately, you no longer have to drive 30 minutes to Warwick to Brooklyn's Pizza for a decent slice of New York style Pizza. This place opened up about 3 weeks ago and offers pizza for take out, delivery, or dine-in. You can order by the slice or whole pie. They offer wings, pasta dishes, and even have what appears to be a fully stocked bar with about a half dozen or more beers on tap. Swinging by this place since I saw the "By the Slice" on the store front, I was looking for a snack since I skipped lunch. Being a Tuesday afternoon at 3pm, the place was a ghost town for customers but the staff was very busy at work cleaning the place, and were very nice and courteous. I was really surprised how big the joint was when I walked in. As you enter, ahead of you is a long bar with tons of stools. To the left of the bar are a ton of tables. To the right behind the bar is more open seating with a by the slice ordering counter. There had to be about 8-10 pies out under warmers waiting for people to order them. As I walked up to the counter, 3 young people where there ready to help. They were nice and courteous. The buffalo pizza looked great and I ordered two slices and a fountain drink. The slices were almost $4 per and the fountain drink was $2 or so, it came out to be about $11. I initially thought this was high, but compared to the other places around, it is on par if not cheaper than the crappy mom and pop joints on the island who hold the entire area hostage with crappy pizza. After the slices were heated in the oven, and served to me, it was absolutely awesome. I really hate to admit a chain pizza place makes a buffalo pizza that tastes as good as the ones I used to have in upstate New York but it was brilliant. I highly recommend you try this place out, if you are looking for a large pie, they are about $18 here. Cheaper than most of the places around that charge you $25 for crap.... read more

Wrong toppings, long waits. The first few times I ate here was decent, but today I had ordered one of their signature veggie pizzas and my friend ordered a custom pizza, and after waiting over an hour we got one of the pizzas. I started eating it without thinking twice before I realized there was bacon on it, placed with other ingredients in smaller pieces so it blended in. I haven't eaten meat in years, probably over a decade since I've had bacon, and consuming meat makes me physically sick. My friend had to go to the counter to ask when the second pizza would finish (which was ordered first) and it turned out it had been done for a while but they hadn't announced it. We (used to) order here frequently and 9 times out of 10, when requesting a gluten-free salad with no croutons, the salad would come with croutons. It's a Sunday afternoon with a Patriots game on right now. There are only 6 tables with customers right now. We arrived and received our food within 45 minutes. Another family arrived and received their food at the same time as us. There was another family that arrived before us. I didn't notice until we were eating that they still had not received their food. They waiting an hour and a half to get their salad, sub with fries, and large pepperoni pizza... We both ordered basically the same food. The only difference between our two tables was the color of our skin. This family should have never waited for their food!
