I've eaten here countless times over the years and it's a favorite staple among the array of Italian restaurants in the Knightsville section of Cranston. What you can expect is a somewhat old school Italian restaurant with enough updating of the menu so as to combine beloved classic dishes with those that are a bit more modern. Three of my cousins and I just spent the day together and had eaten a big meal earlier, so when it came time to head out to dinner we decided to come here for just appetizers and drinks. While you can get a delicious full dinner here, Antonio's can and should be considered as a nice stop simply for grazing as we did. We were seated in a rounded booth by the welcoming host. The bar area which was just across from where we sat, is quite nice. We noted several people who had chosen to have their meals at the bar which is something I often like to do when I'm out with just one other person. The interior is comfortable and pretty. It's got dimmed lighting with a slightly elegant feel although it is not in any way stuffy. It would make the perfect location for a nice romantic date. The appetizer selections are all amazing in my opinion. It was hard to choose since I wanted one of each of them. We went with the fried calamari with cherry peppers (nice and hot!), the grilled flatbread pizza with Italian sausage, broccoli rabe and mozzarella and the Polenta Parmigiano with marsala braised wild mushrooms and truffle oil. Other choices on the appetizer menu include whole stuffed artichokes, crispy fried smelts (which is a classic Italian dish that I grew up eating and loving and you should try), stuffed clams, grilled scallops, beef carpaccio and finally, arancini which are stuffed and fried rice balls. You will not go wrong with any of these choices. However I have to say that my favorite is the polenta with the braised mushrooms. I could eat that dish morning, noon and night. If you order one appetizer at Antonio's let it be the polenta! They have a nice selection of wines by the glass and a full bar menu. Two of us had delicious dirty martinis. Although it was not for us that night, the dinner menu is quite pleasing and includes many Italian favorites like eggplant or chicken Parmigiano, various pasta dishes and some updated items like grilled and glazed salmon. There is a great menu of salad choices too. For us, the appetizers and cocktails were plenty of food after our late lunch. The only somewhat sour note was our waiter who showed no enthusiasm for his job nor much interest in us. He was efficient enough but with no warmth nor charm. Went on a Sunday evening with a friend for drunks and appetizers. We sat the bar and were greeted by a friendly bartender who quickly served us a small complimentary plate of antipasti. This consisted of a couple varieties of olives, pepperoni, and cheese. He also gave us a nice basket if bread which I knew came from Buono's Bakery on Hartford Ave.. arguably one of the best bread makers in the state. Off to a great start! We ordered two apps. One was the Clams Zuppa. The clams soaked in a nice tasty broth which also had chourizo and chickpeas! So unique and delicious. The second app was an order of Arancini Balls stuffed with cheese and prosciutto with a drizzle of roasted red pepper coulis. This too was delicious. Overall, great service , great food. I'll change the rating to 5 stars once I return for dinner and experience their entrees. read more

Been awhile since my last visit and I'm not quite sure if I was at all impressed by this last visit. It was early Sunday evening, got a table right away and the tables are really squeezed together. I noticed the whole stuffed artichoke on the menu and it's been quite a while since I've had a really good stuffed artichoke. Guess my expectations was too high, because it was not cooked enough so the leaves was not tender at all and the stuffing was lacking in seasoning. Needed to add salt for sure. Followed up with the clams Antonio. Which is their version of clams casino. It was a non- memorable dish pretty standard. The fried smelts was ordered plain and simple which was decent and my daughter enjoyed it just plain. Ordered the stuffed veal chop special, Others had raved about it but I found in to be a little dry and the veal was pounded really thin and Was overpowered by the lobster butter sauce, salty and heavy. Had difficulty eating this dish. The seafood fra Diablo was good,you can tase the seafood broth in the sauce. And the penne ordered on the side was actually done perfect aldente. read more

What can I say. Even in times of crisis (COVID-19) Antonio's has found a way to continue to service the community with the food we know and love from them. Tonight my family and I ordered the; Calamari, Grilled Pizza, Chicken Parmigiana, Chicken Marsala, Shrimp Brivido, Grilled Salmon, and Filet medium, all to go. When I got to the restaurant, I was greeted at the bar who had my order waiting for me. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out the we're offering bottles of wine with take out orders of $50 or more. So I also walked away with a few bottles of wine. When I got home (about 10 min ride) the food was still hot and delicious as always. I'm glad to see a home town favorite continue to survive in these difficult times. Keep up the good work! The service as well as the food was outstanding! I had the eggplant parmigiana which was stellar compared to any eggplant I've ever had and I grew up eating Italian food. My friends all had the veal parmigiana which was outstanding, lightly fried, simmering in an equally perfect marinara sauce which was so light and just enough fresh mozzarella. The pasta was perfectly cooked- "Al dente". This is near to impossible to come by as most restaurants over cook their pasta. Antonio's is now one of our favorites! read more

Visited during COVID19 phase 2 pandemic. Be prepared to sit on the sidewalk of the street. Once you're able to get past that it's honestly a great experience. Overall, 7.5/10. Had to dock points because no mixed drink menu (which is a complete personal preference) and honestly, the dessert was not good at all. Overall the food....INCREDIBLE! Highly recommend the braised short rib...it was fantastic. As well as the fra Diavlo. For apps we got calamari and lobster/shrimp raw bar...no complaints there! Very good! Service....very great! Our server Nate was attentive and quick despite the fact it was so busy. Personally, I would skip the dessert (and the sangria, too sweet for me)..got a creme brûlée torte and we would have been better off skipping it. I would put this in my top 5 Italian restaurants in RI. I have never had a bad meal here but usually come for the filet. Always perfectly cooked. Comes with a side of rabe and a Gorgonzola orzo that is just ridiculous. The Arancini as an app is a must. The bolognese which is always a measuring stick as to the caliber of food in an Italian restaurant is to die for. The staff is always very knowledgeable and friendly. The decor of the place gives you that upscale yet old school feel of a traditional Italian place. Nestled in the heart of knightsville with Italian restaurants on every corner. Came here with family this past week for a reception following my uncle's funeral. We had an open bar so I had a glass of white wine. The salad came with a champaign dressing and was delicious. There were a few meal choices but I ordered the chicken marsala which was great, and we were served parfaits for dessert which included ice cream and a sprig of mint. They normally don't open for lunch but they did for our reception. Very nice place and the food was good, too. read more

Been to Antonio's many many times over the past 25 years for family celebrations, mercy meals or just a night out for some good food - I grew up in Cranston and it has been a staple restaurant and one that I always enjoyed and looked forward to eating at ... unfortunately, my last visit was very disappointing , we started with some appetizers the stuffed artichoke and the stuffie ( both tasted the same) the artichoke had too much broth it was sitting in a bowl - almost soupy like.... The stuffing wasn't bad but both dishes had similar stuffing flavor ... for my main dish I ordered the pork Osso Bucco, I have had this dish several times and have always enjoyed it , this dish had sweet potato's and escarole ...upon my first bite I was dissatisfied , there was a sweetness almost like maple syrup or some sort of sugary taste ( it was not the sweet potato's) it was a broth that the Osso Bucco was sitting in - it totally drowned out the flavor or the pork- it ruined it for me , I tried taking the top pieces of the pork - the part that wasn't soaking in the broth, but it still was sweet . The people I was with ordered the crispy cod it was good , crispy and light not deep fried but a nice crisp... we also ordered a side of penne pasta ( once again - sugar in the red sauce) the sauce was so sweet!!! What is it with restaurants putting sugar in all the food!!! I will say that for a Monday night the place was very busy but I was dissatisfied and disappointed with the food and I don't remember Antonio's food to be disappointing ( not sure if it's new owners or new chefs ) ... I'm not sure I will return for a while... Rhode Island has so many choices for restaurants and there are new ones constantly opening up - so on to the next!!! read more

Except in this case, I felt like an unwanted guest that had the "pleasure" of paying for dinner. Antonio's Trattoria in Cranston provides abominable service. Absolutely horrible. The evening started with an attempt to call for a reservation. The guy who picked up (who turned out to be the owner's son) provided all the "help" he could muster with lots of "I don't knows" and "Come in, find out yourself." Seriously... what kind of an idiot goes to a restaurant where the guy who picks up the phone can't be bothered to check for a table for you? This guy. Because the evening just gets worse. Show up at the restaurant, and place our orders. Food gets dropped. That's the last that we see of our sweaty (can't they buy the waiter's a towel???) waiter. No "how is everything." No "would you like some water." No "dessert or coffee?" Just nothing. Until I stood up as he was walking by the table to ask for the bill. So the next time that I want to feel like I am an unwanted somewhere, I will happily throw on a Yankees jersey and head on over to Fenway. Please do yourself a favor, and head elsewhere for dinner. read more

Okay time to be honest. Antonio's was our third choice tonight. L'osteria was closed for vacation and we walked out of Caffe Itri after being ignored in line. But our third choice turned out to be a great one. After being greeted upon our arrival, we were shown to a table in a nicely decorated dining room and served fresh Italian bread with a choice of butter or olive oil with mozzarella cheese. Both my mom and I ordered chicken Parmesan with angel hair pasta. The chicken was tender though the breading was a little heavy and the cheese a bit under melted. The pasta was well cooked and tasty but it was the light flavorful tomato sauce under the chicken and on top of the pasta that was the highlight of the meal! Service at Antonio's is friendly and efficient. Our server, Anthony, was attentive, professional and really seemed to care if we enjoyed our meal. It saddens me to give this review because the food was excellent but the service was among the worst I've ever experienced. I had the chicken rolitini with tomato risotto and it was SUPERB! As a matter of fact, I was with a party of 10 and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals! No complaints for the quality and preparation of the food!!! The service, however, was AWFUL. Maybe the service sucked because we were a large party? Well, it was a Monday night, so they can't use "date night" or "holiday" as an excuse. Moreover, we had reservations, so it's not like we were unexpected. The waiter took eons to come over and introduce our specials. When a drink wasn't served, or a meal wasn't served, he was quick to blame the bartender and chef respectively. We were there for a birthday party and he came out with the cake when only half of the table was present (talk about a let down for the birthday girl!) Overall, his personality was far from welcoming. Actually it appeared that he was anxious for us all to go home instead!! Unfortunately this isn't the first poor service I've experienced here, I just wasn't a Yelp user before. Food and service is just as fantastic as 25 yrs ago. We had fantastic goat cheese stuffed, carmelized figs with balsamic glaze and prosciutto. Tender osso bucco, and pasta dishes that included fantastic pasta cooked perfectly, and an authentic Bolognese that brought back memories of a trattoria outside Roma. Extremely disappointed. My family has been going to this restaurant for YEARS. Sadly, I tried to book my father's funeral luncheon there. I was told the facility was available and that Christian would call back to confirm. He never called back and I had to stop in a day later and make sure. Christian was there and had no reservation booked for us and only could tell us he doesn't work on Sunday's so he has no idea. Someone on his staff took the reservation. This wasn't for a dinner party, this was for a funeral and was the most stressful time of my life. I think they should get their house in order and treat serious matters with more care. I won't return there and felt compelled to share the terrible experience. Tony Sr is a wonderful man who my father had tremendous respect for and I'm sad to have had this experience when we trusted our familiar restaurant to come through for us. read more

Great Italian spot. The stuffed veal chop was Amazing, huge portion that could easily feed two. Wine selection was great. We loved all the different wines we had. My Pinot Grigio was very smooth and paired very well with the veal. The service was excellent! Our server was very friendly and was on top of all the requests. We didn't have any issues. The ambient is great for friends and family gathering. Nice for a date as well. It has a nice bar area if you are just in for a cold beer and to watch a sports event! We were visiting RI for a funeral, my beautiful friend Meghan was a beloved daughter, mom, friend, Cranston teacher, and coach - a special light dimmed much too soon. On the evening of her wake Antonio and his staff donated a four course meal to her family and friends. The service was impeccable, the food was exquisite, and the generosity of Antonio and his staff was so very touching. This is a special restaurant that truly values it's community. Antonio's is one of my favorite restaurants! Their veal parm is to die for and they always have the best specials!

Ordered the veal parmigiana and the veal was the thinnest I have ever had. Was heavily breaded and not worth the amount charged.

I called and ordered the linguine pescatore for pick up and once I got home and opened the container I there was 1 shrimp, 2 very small scallops and about 2, 3 calamari that u could barely see that's how small they were not mention that the seafood wasn't even fresh! Food is delicious but pricey. Service is not attentive. A 4 ounce ginger ale costs $2.75 which is a lot but they don't refill the glass for free which is absurd. I'd revisited there fairly recently and was reminded of certain things. They do a very nice presentation for the place. It's kept very clean, organized, the staff seem to have it together, the people who run the place are extremely nice, everyone goes out of their way to assure you are taken care of. We had a party of about twenty of us for this particular night. I'm a very picky eater but was able to decide between chicken or veal parm. Maybe that was my mistake. Much like my last time here before, I found the veal to be both overpriced and not filling. $22 for what was a lot of fluff and a very small piece of veal once you take apart all the breading. It would be a tough sell to get me to return knowing what I do, or possibly chance it that the chicken parm is not the same measly meal like the veal was. Bonus points that I had enough bread before the meal to not leave there feeling terribly hungry. read more

This is the best restaurant in the state ( and better than Boston north end restaurants) our waiter Anthony is the best! Always seated at time of reservation and always new and delicious specials. Stopped in here for lunch and this place was good! It really doesn't have a lunch menu, it's basically the dinner menu all day. So if you are looking for lunch specials, this is not your place. The menu is more limited than the surrounding restaurants, but the food quality is excellent! They also have a lot of specials. We would definitely come back here for a special occasion. A little more expensive than we would have liked for lunch, but--like I said--they don't have a lunch menu so you pay dinner prices. I had the ravioli and eggplant and both were delicious! read more
