This is one of my favorite coffee shops in DC. I usually come for breakfast but popped in for lunch on a Friday and it was pretty crowded around noon with people working remotely and groups having coffee or lunch. I ordered the fish sandwich, which was the perfect light yet filling lunch. It comes on a scallion pancake with super crispy fish, tangy kimchi and a creamy sauce. Came here for breakfast with my friend and had a lovely time! You order up at the counter and they give you a buzzer in you're dining in. They have a variety of comfy seating options inside. The menu isn't very large, but it seems like what they do, they do well. I got the scallion pancake sandwich with bacon, which was delightful! The scallion pancake with crispy, the egg was fluffy, the bacon was delicious, and they served it with a side of chili crisp oil, which was really good (and not too hot, actually). The sandwich is a bit greasy, between the pancake and bacon and chili oil, but don't let that stop you from trying it. I also got the yuca hashbrown, which was also a surprisingly lovely addition to the meal. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with a really good creamy sauce. Again, the hashbrown was a bit greasy, but worth it! Given the slightly smaller size of the sandwich, the hash brown also made it the perfect-sized meal. This review is for brunch only! The interior was very nicely decorated and ordering was really easy. You find your own seating after ordering. The ube coffee was really aesthetic but lacked Ube flavor in the foam. Still a good general coffee though! We also got the kabobs latte and that definitely had a nice pumpkin flavor to and added more body. I think the latte was my favorite item. We also got a slice of carrot cake and while good, it leaned a bit too sweet and dense. I prefer the cake a bit fluffier. We also got the classic scallion pancakes, kimchi cheese and the bacon egg and cheese. At first the pancakes looked thin but they do have that classic scallion pancake chewyness that I appreciate. I may be a bit harsher with my review only because I grew up eating scallion pancakes as a staple! One gripe I had is that there were no visible scallions and a very light flavor. I feel that the star of the show should be the scallion pancake so I'd love to see if they up the flavor in them. The sandwich itself seemed like the main seasoning flavor was just salt. It lacked some complexity and at some point cheese was all I could taste. The portions look small but are very filling since the whole meal was on the heavier side! The chili oil on the side lacked flavor and spice, although it did help the sandwich. Overall it was the flavor was a bit lacking and one note but I appreciate how any day now is incorporating scallion pancakes into a more casual American brunch vibe ! The kimchi egg and cheese was very tasty and the sauce that they provide on the side was the perfect balance of heat and spice. I have only a few visits to Any Day Now, an all-day cafe (and in the evening dinner spot, located in the space previously occupied by ABC Pony in DC's Navy Yard. They offer a range of pastries, and muffin but the signature item is the scallion pancake sandwiches. Varieties range from breakfast sausage to kimchi. I can attest, the kimchi is unique and delicious. I can't bring myself to order anything else (yet). Of course, all the usual beverages are available: coffee, espresso, cappuccino, cold brew, kombucha.... The space is not too large so weekends get tight. Service is efficient and friendly. Came and got their masala chai, one had an added shot and the other was regular. They were busy so we got the drinks after 15 mins. They were both luke warm and just tasted like milk with a slight earthy aftertaste of a chai. I do like my chais spicy tho, but this was very weak. I waited in line to ask if they could redo it and they did, and the cashier and barista were very nice. They actually came out with color, were hot, and topped with some cinnamon too. Once remade, the chai was much better, sweeter and with a very slight bite of spice from the cinnamon. It's a nice spot and their food looks good. Overall, if they're busy, it might take forever if you want them to fix something if it goes wrong, but at least they will and are very kind about it :) read more

The scallion is a pancake "crust" with egg, cheese and choice of meat. There's also a kimchi option. I thought the scallions were a good breakfast and I'm certainly glad for the opportunity to try it. My wife loved it, which is really unusual because she is pretty standard fare as it pertains to meals. There was really no table service at 10:30 in the morning when we went. You ordered at the counter and they called your name when it was ready to pick up your food. We ordered to eat in. It was the same for to go order as well. I would describe the place as a hipster cafe-type establishment. There were people who were "working" as it appeared. Someone was on a face to face job interview. The scallion pancake was a little crispy for my taste (I prefer a chewy one) and the sandwich had American cheese (which I find pretty rich), but it was very well composed and really yummy. A fun take on a breakfast sandwich. The egg is a soufflé texture which is also very innovative and yummy. Outside of the highly anticipated sandwich, the ambiance was great. Very casual and comfortable with a modern design. Seems like a great place to sit and work and enjoy a treat! No surprise here, Any Day Now continues the tradition of fantastic dining experiences from the seasoned Tim Ma. I've been to every one of Tim's restaurants over the years and each one brings with it a new and exciting twist on things you are familiar with. Any Day Now is just like you've seen on social media. Their dishes are fun and unique and bursting with umami and flavor. The scallion pancakes are just as good as everyone else has said here and on social media. The General Tso's chicken skin at dinnertime are one the best appetizers I've ever had. The eggplant katsu was my favorite dish at dinner. I came here with my coworkers and we also ordered plantain tots, potato croquettes, bbq spare ribs, oxtail tagliatelle, chicken and waffles, honey walnut calamari, fancy omelette, and green papaya caesar. Everything was good. The only dish we ordered that we didn't like was the tuna tartare. We came here for brunch on a Saturday based on the hype surrounding their scallion pancakes and ube coffee. Off the bat, I was a bit thrown off by the flow of the restaurant. You order at the bar and seating is first come first serve at your own selection. There's a healthy mix of people using this place for brunch vs. working on laptops. Regardless, there's plenty of two person seats available, but I could foresee larger parties having a bit more difficult time finding seating. The ube coffee was delicious and has a nice hint of ube on top that isn't extremely overpowering. You could tell this was one of their top items, as it came out within 3 minutes of ordering and with two other orders. Of note, it's not ube foam like other Vietnamese coffees, but still pretty good. The coffee itself also isn't super strong, making this a nice sip-able drink. For the pancakes, we got the sausage, egg and cheese and the bacon, egg and cheese. Between the two, the bacon egg and cheese is the clear winner for me, as the taste of the bacon meshes better with the sandwich as opposed to the thick sausage. Overall though, i have to admit I was somewhat disappointed with the flavors of the sandwich. The scallion pancake wrap is fairly thin, with what looks like only two discrete layers (one pan fried, one more rubbery in texture, with scallions). The eggs are also somewhat bland, though comes as the largest chunk of the sandwich. The bacon sandwich comes with 3-4 pieces of perfectly crispy slices, while the sausage sandwich comes with lightly seared sausage. The portions here are more than enough to satisfy your cravings. Overall, if I were to come back, I would treat this place more as a cafe with good ube coffee and places to study rather than a regular brunch spot. I took these to go, but my friend lives very close to the restaurant so I consumed the items fresh. Service was quick and the prices were a bit on the higher end, but not unmanageable. The staff were nice. Overall, I was disappointed by the breakfast scallion pancakes. They were very oily (not in a flavorful way) and the egg seemed too homogenous (from a carton, which does not equate to "bad" but it would have been nice to have a fluffier scramble from non-carton eggs). When I eat scallion pancakes, I want lots of scallions and layers. This one felt very flat (almost cracker like), not enough chewy layers, and was lacking scallion presence and flavor. I bought both the kimchi and sausage option. The kimchi flavor predictably blended well with the cheese. The sausage didn't taste like maple sausage to me, but more like a homemade attempt at spam. It also looked like spam as well. Of the two, I preferred the kimchi one. Both came with a chili oil on the side that did not help much. The Vietnamese coffee with ube was very tasty! I do like Vietnamese iced coffee, and I didn't think the ube was too much flavor; it added to the coffee and condensed milk taste without being overpowering. We went around 9 in the morning and there were a good amount of people there. Restaurant is large and had adequate seating and floor to ceiling windows to provide perfect morning light. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese scallion pancake. It was so good and crispy. I wish there was a tad bit more bacon and maybe some green onions but would definitely order again. I don't agree because all the scallion pancakes I've ever eaten were greasy. I feel like that's the point. Then, you make that into a breakfast sandwich with meat, egg, and cheese? It only seems natural that you've got a hot, greasy sandwich on your hands, but that's my opinion. The iced coffee was smooth and maybe a bit too mild for my taste. I think next time I'll try a latte since that's my usual coffee order. I then got settled at a table with my book to relax. It got loud and crowded by the time I left at around 10:30am, so if you want a table on a Saturday morning be sure to come in earlier than that. I love eating out and I have been to pretty amazing restaurants in DC and all over world, but this place has one the best dishes ever, the mixed of flavor, using very simple ingredients such as a butternuts squash. I came back twice on the same week, that's how much a enjoyed the food. Came in for happy hour and a bite pre-Kennedy center. Food was good but odd. The tacos don't resemble tacos, and they are VERY small. Good flavor but definitely not shareable. The burger was decent but when you say "pickle" and burger it's assumed it's a dill pickle -- don't try to sneak a sweet pickle in there -- connoisseurs notice. Also, maybe just go with actual bread? I get what you're trying to do but it doesn't really work, and while the reviews have been positive, the emptiness of the bar makes me think people are voting against the food with their feet. Service was ok but the bartenders spent more time on their POS machines (iPad or the infamous put your tip in while the server watches machine) than making eye contact with the 2-3 people here. Be personable -- that's why people come back. Ambiance was very cafe. It's unfortunate because they have all the building blocks for a great after hours hub in this neighborhood. But it doesn't come together and I have to blame management. Poor staffing choices, food that's curated for WaPo reviews rather than customers (go to Big Stick for better, cheaper wings), and a vacated Starbucks ambiance kill the vibe. The food was pretty good, although I found the pancake itself to be a little thick and difficult to cut through. The chili sauce was very light and not spicy at all. Overall, I was happy but would caution others who grew up with traditional scallion pancakes to not expect that here. They definitely do a twist on the classic! Any Day Now gets one star off because I thought the service was only okay. It's a pretty casual cafe space, so I guess it's fair to not expect any restaurant-level service. I was just confused by what exactly their service was; they occasionally brought food to the tables, but not always. Had a chance to come here on a Friday night in a group of 3. It's the new establishment that took over ABC Pony. That being said a lot of the dishes still kept the same Asian fusion flare that ABC used to have. Long story short, the dishes are good but the price is too damn high. Now that we got that out of the way... Charred cabbage - came out very crispy and flavorful. Overall the biggest surprise of the night and definitely a pleasant one at that. BBQ ribs - portion size was much larger than expected but you have to comfortable really digging into it with your hands. The mashed potato was also light fluffy and fila or fil. Oxtail Taliatelle - probably best dish of the night but they one that's most not worth it. The portion for the price was very lacking but, like the other dishes, was good. Coconut cake - I'm not a dessert person but the folks in my party really enjoyed it so take that what you will. Overall good restaurant but like I said....
