Hickory smoked bacon scallion pancake sandwich
Cyrus A.

Any Day Now has a little something for everyone. Good food if you're there for a meal, good coffee and espresso drinks if you want more of a cafe experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating from counter top to table to lounge style chairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]And yes, free WiFi.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had a Vietnamese iced coffee with ube and loved it, the espresso tasted great and the ube was a nice touch without overpowering the taste. I also had one of the breakfast scallion pancake sandwiches, super interesting! The scallion pancake served as the "bread" and was itself very tasty. It was a nice, relatively light meal, and the kimchi I added gave it another burst of flavor. I'd definitely come back here, great spot for food, drinks, and a little work.

ABSOLUTE YUMMMMMM. Went with a friend since this has been on our NEED TO TRY list for so long Brown butter sage caramel latte 9/10. The barista was so kind and recommended to get it hot so I did and it was gas. General tso chicken sando on scallion pancake. 9.5/10 like wowowowo no notes. Ts was so gas I ate that up. The scallion pancake was perfect and crispy. Flavor on point. Miso Mac and cheese to share: 9/10 this was also amazing. Chunks of like sausage? In it was a great touch. Iced Ube Vietnamese coffee was amazingggg. Maple pork bfast sandwich on a scallion pancake- chili oil was rly good and loved the pancake- the only thing was the sausage was kinda overpowering. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting was great for getting work done, doing meetings, or just a casual place to relax and hangout.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will come again and not too far of a walk from the metro!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Good food, coffee, free WiFi and ample seating?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This coffee shop never disappoints! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Whether you're coming for breakfast or lunch it's the perfect spot to work remotely, catch up with friends over coffee or chill and read a book.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also, the sandwiches are amazing and the staff is always helpful and friendly. Great spot!

I came to Any Day Now to do interview prep for a big interview. I have not been called back for a second round yet, so take that however you'd like. [[HIGHLIGHT]]That said, if my focus slipped at all, it was only because this place is genuinely cute and very easy to settle into. It feels like the kind of coffee shop where you can stay for a while without feeling rushed or awkward about it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The seating setup is ideal if you actually plan to be productive. There is a couch for lounging, tables if you want to spread out, and counter seating if you are more in and out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It strikes that rare balance of feeling cozy without being cramped and energetic without being distracting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A great spot for thinking through answers, calming nerves, or just pretending you are the main character with a notebook and coffee. I went for breakfast and ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee with ube, which was excellent. It was sweet but not overly sweet, balanced, and honestly very drinkable. The ube added depth without turning it into dessert, which I appreciated since I was there to function, not spiral into a sugar crash. For food, I got their breakfast scallion pancake sandwich, vegetarian, no kimchi. I love kimchi, but only when it is grilled, and I did not want to risk it mid prep session. The sandwich was scallion pancake, steamed fluffy egg, and cheese, and it was delicious. Simple, comforting, and satisfying. It comes with a side of chili crisp, which added just the right amount of heat and texture. Interview outcome pending, but the coffee and breakfast absolutely delivered.

I had my first experience at this coffee shop and truly enjoyed my experience from the friendly staff and service. I ordered an ice vanilla latte & coffee cake muffin that was sooo yummy! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have plenty of seating available whether at a table, bar, and sitting chairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place had great energy and was filled with people.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can't wait to visit again.

Went with friends to work for the day. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute shop with ample seating, strong WiFi, and plenty of outlets to plug in.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My first time and I will def be back for remote working! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Seating is open and you order at the counter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For lunch I ordered the chicken club sandwich and loved that they come on scallion pancakes, and the pancakes are cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the General Tso's sandwich and enjoyed it as well (check the empty plates)! They have breakfast sandwiches too if that's more your speed. I had an iced vanilla latte with oat milk to drink - bc we always need caffeine) which was also sweetened well, delicious, and needed no additives. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only complaint would be that we had to ask for water while sitting at the bar all day (10a - 5pm), and the music selection prior to 4pm, but the staff was friendly and knowledgeable when I asked for recommendations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a happy hour (not sure when it starts) and I had a glass of wine and my friend had an espresso martini that had too much espresso.

Christina H.

This is my go-to place for a Chai latte and pastry or breakfast with my laptop handy to respond to emails or write in my planner for upcoming work meetings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is spacious and has a nice ambiance that makes it easy to enjoy the views.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can also enjoy happy hour if you would like to unwind from your day and have a glass of wine. The service is inviting, and the staff is friendly and welcoming to help.

Incredible place. I am a huge fan of combination cafe / bars but Any Day Now takes it a step further with a great breakfast / lunch / dinner menu (more than a typical cafe). Some really interesting options and fair prices. The staff are incredibly friendly and service is speedy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a very inviting atmosphere that keeps me wanting to come back for prolonged hangouts.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I liked this place a lot! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was busy when we came in since there was a matcha pop up going on[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] but I was excited to try the scallion pancake sandwiches since I felt like it was more unique concept at least in this area. I got the tofu one which was decent. It had kimchi, cheese, & a big piece of tofu in between a scallion pancake. I would have preferred if the scallion pancake had more scallion flavor. The tofu was ok but I think it would have been better if it was shredded or something for more texture. I would go again to try some other sandwiches or drinks though!

Ube Viet iced coffee and matcha latte

The food here is good, but everything is oily. All their scallion pancake wraps have cheese in them. There's even cheese in the eggs, which is a bit strange. So this place doesn't have many options for vegans or people who are lactose intolerant. The service was fine. The person taking out order spoke very fast, which was a bit difficult to understand. The matcha latte was good. The ube Vietnamese coffee was also pretty good. The food and drinks here weren't extraordinary. The restaurant is clean and had lots of open space for people to work.

My new favorite WFH spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything about this place is perfect. It's spacious with ample (and cozy) seating and plenty of outlets.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]During the day there are lots of other people working as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is better than I expected. We got the vegetarian kimchi breakfast sandwich and bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and they were both 10/10. The ube latte was also awesome. Super pleased and will definitely be back.

Maple Pork Sausage Breakfast Scallion Pancake Sandwich
Roger P.

~Food/Drinks~ Breakfast Scallion Pancake Sandwich: We ordered the Hickory Smoked Bacon and Maple Pork Sausage. Comes sliced into two pieces so it's easy to share with someone. The scallion pancakes were crunchy and thin and out of the two meats, I liked the sausage more because it had a meatier taste and it wasn't as salty. The chili oil was like Szechuan/mala flavor, not very numbing but it was good. One order of sandwiches is kind of small so we also ordered some hash browns to share. Hash Browns: Comes with two pieces and they were super crunchy! Matcha Latte: Solid matcha drink but it comes unsweetened. I believe there was a bottle of simple syrup by the utensils so you could add as much as you want. ~Service~ After you order at the counter, you'll get a buzzer. Seat yourself at any table that's available and when you're done, bus the tables yourself. They supply wipes and napkins by the tableware drop-off area and trash cans. ~Atmosphere~ Definitely a lounge space. There's bar stools and couches, giving the place a very casual vibe. There's a lot of indoor seats and I believe you can even sit in the apartment lobby that's connected to the restaurant. I saw a lot of people either chilling or working. ~Logistics~ Located on the corner of some busy streets, the restaurant doesn't seem to have its own dedicated parking lot. We actually walked to the restaurant from the Library of Congress. If you're a first-time customer, make sure to download the inkind app and order from there! When we visited, there was a deal for $10 off $30 minimum. ~Conclusion~ If you need a place to relax or caffeinate, Any Day Now is a perfect spot. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit again but it's worth trying at least once.

After seating, we waited 10-15 minutes and two different people had to ask if we'd been helped before she came over and got our server. The server barely introduced herself and only asked whether we wanted tap, spring or sparkling water. We barely saw our server and when we did, it was unpleasant. When she returned, she said, "y'all know what y'all want," which felt inappropriate for a 21st birthday celebration. Considering that she didn't ask about appetizers. It just felt like we were a bother. Then four out of five meals arrived first, but the birthday girl's food came about five minutes later. We waited to eat until her meal arrived, and my grits were already congealed. Refills were limited to water from the hostess, dessert was never offered, and the server left the check while the adults were in the restroom with two teenagers at the table. We would've ordered dessert. Even the cake felt handled last-minute. The hostess retrieved it from the fridge, added the candles, and offered plasticware and to-go boxes instead of plates, which seemed odd. We discussed the cake beforehand, and after it arrived I told the hostess she could cut a piece if she wanted. Then the server yelled "no" rudely over the table. It felt like she was upset we brought a cake, and communicated to the hostess that we wouldn't get plates or actual silverware, despite being told beforehand it was fine. Overall, the service felt unwelcoming and inattentive, leaving the meal far below what we expected. We didn't even feel comfortable taking pictures. We will never ever be back and I have already steered my friends away from your establishment.

We hoped to find a place that offered decaf coffee since it was late in the day, but really wanted something warm since it was a bit chilly outside. Unfortunately, this location of Toastique does not offer decaf - they only have a single hopper for their coffee, so it is not an offering. We were going to find another place, however, they said how about a hot chocolate or a tea. My friend is vegan and inquired if their hot cocoa was vegan, as most places have dairy in the chocolate. The cashier went to look at the chocolate syrup and also had another person look at it to verify it's vegan. My friend ordered a hot chocolate with oat milk. Even though it was busy, we only waited about 5 minutes for her drink. We appreciated the effort to double check it was vegan, though I do wish they had decaf options.

This was one of the most unique shakshukas I'd ever had... It literally tasted like a curry dish you might get at your local Indian restaurant, with a bit of a brunch flair to it. The curry itself had a wee bit of spice and was a bit sweet - but that could have been from the sweet potatoes. The chicken was served in a bowl on the side, which felt a bit... odd... I would've expected it to be incorporated into the main dish. It was kind of bland and a bit lukewarm, so I don't know that I'd order that again... but I would definitely order this again!

We were seated on the ground floor. The decor was exotic in a pleasant way and it looked like there were many seating or standing options. It was quiet in the early afternoon. We ordered the fries with aioli, I had the lamb tartare and my friend the lamb bolognese, and we both had pound cake for dessert. We both deeply enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dishes we ordered. The fries were hot and crispy and the aioli delicious -- I only wish there were more given the generous portion of fries. My tartare had the taste and texture of pate, despite the lamb chop exterior. Very clever. The aroma was just right. The cake was warm and moist with a crispy crust. My friend remarked that dishes of similar quality, taste, and presentation would cost triple in Manhattan. Regrettably, we were charged $12 for the $10 dessert. The waiter attributed it to a "computer error," but I've had to deal with overcharging by several of my favorite DC restaurants. Whether intentional or not, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other cons: The menu is admittedly sketchy. My friend and I were unwilling to gamble on expensive and elaborate dishes. It sounds like the reviewers here did. Also, the restaurant is located in the heart of Capitol Hill, far from the metro. It's a long walk or you'll be looking for parking. Butterworth's is now my favorite restaurant in DC. I've been wanting to bring my family here for the longest time, but I've hesitated because I don't want to deal with the contempt of the host, the embarrassment of disputing false charges, and the pain of finding parking. I've been wanting to return solo for the longest time, but I've hesitated because the place is in the middle of nowhere, and I don't want to walk 25 minutes or pay $15 for a cab ride just to pay another $50 for a meal here, as wonderful as the experience might be. All that said, in terms of taste, presentation, ambiance, and price, Butterworth's left a strong and positive impression on me.
